  1. Finished FMA Brotherhood.  Real good show.  I think there was a bit too much focus on side characters instead of Ed, Al, and Winry, who I found to be the heart of the show, but the animation was excellent and there were some truly great moments.

It also has Attack on Titan syndrome where the first opening is so good that my body physically rejects all the others

    1. The Deleter

      The Deleter

Watch the first show if you're looking for more meaningful stuff on Ed, Al, and some other characters like Scar and Hughes than what Brotherhood offered.

It also has a craaaaazy better sense of humor to it, as well, and a really good atmosphere. Story gets pretty different and weird at the point where the manga ended, though, so be warned if you don't want any other memories of how the series ended overriding one or the other.

    2. Gregzilla

Yeah I checked out a few clips of 2003 and I'm interested in giving it a go.  Brotherhood's humor was honestly super cringey so I'd be down for better comedy for sure.

I also didn't realize the shows were so different, I assumed Brotherhood was just sort of a "remaster" but the first show looks like a whole different beast, probably worth checking out.

    3. Sean

FMA 2003 handles the dramatic stuff better for the most part. Brotherhood/manga is more of a typical shonen action/adventure (and it's my favorite shonen so I mean that in an endearing way) whereas 2003 is more of a Gothic tragedy. I love both shows, and I think the manga has better plot, but 2003 is directed in such an expert fashion, whereas Brotherhood is a by-the-numbers inferior adaptation of the manga. Way better music courtesy of Michiru Oshima, too.

Also I mean to clarify that whatever praise I sing for Brotherhood is only the stuff shared with the manga. I love the manga, but don't like Brotherhood, and there's only one or two things the latter does better than it.

    4. Gregzilla

I do love gothic stuff, I watched a scene from 2003 with Ed fighting Envy in a more gothic-looking building and it got me really interested in watching the rest.  I feel like the aesthetics might appeal to me more, even though Brotherhood has excellent animation.

On the whole I definitely wouldn't say Brotherhood is one of my favorite anime, I think it felt overly long with a few too many characters.  I have more fondness for its stand-out moments than the show in its entirety, moments like Gluttony's stomach, Mustang blasting folks, the gut-wrenching 4th episode chimera, stuff like that.  I'll go back and appreciate the big moments and sakuga shots, but I doubt I'll watch the show through again.

  2. Boss Baby ain't bad.  There goes my perception of reality.

    1. Dejimon11

I pretty much figured it would be an meh movie at best.

    2. Tatters

Saw the movie with my sister and brother, it was really that bad on how people say it is. I enjoyed from the beginning till end.

    3. Gregzilla

I don't think it's a classic or anything, but it was a fun time and had some genuinely fantastic comedic animation.  The marketing made it look a lot worse than it was.

    4. Tatters

True, it wasn't ground breaking but it was just a enjoyable film to watch if your bored.

    5. KHCast

It's forgettable. Which I think is worse than shitty. And dreamworks sucks at making movies look anything but generic anymore

    6. Dejimon11

I heard that Home had the same problem. Decent film crappy marketing

@Gregzilla @Tatters @Dejimon11 That seems to be a thing with Dream Works movies, lately.

      Trolls anyone?B)

    8. KHCast

I think Disney should lend them a hand in that regard or something

    9. Monkey Destruction Switch

      Monkey Destruction Switch

I honestly still kinda want to watch that. Seems fun.

  3. The bit in the new Beauty and the Beast with the snowball made me laugh really hard for some reason

    1. TheOcelot

      Is it any good?

    2. Gregzilla

I liked it well enough.  The original isn't one of my favorite Disney movies, and while it's definitely more of a classic, I think the new one actually made some nice additions and improvements to the story.

    3. Big Panda

      Big Panda

Apparently that was a real snowball to the face, and it took quite a number of takes to get right.

  4. I'm curious how Sonic X was received in Japan.  The English version is super dumb but I wonder how much of it was 4Kids' fault and if the Japanese version was any better.  Granted the terrible new human characters were still there so I guess it can't be THAT different.

    1. Tracker_TD

I tried to watch the JP version, because everyone told me it was so much better.

      They were wrong.

    2. Gregzilla

My friend and I were watching the 4Kids version a few weeks ago, just a few eps selected at random.  Obviously it's a bad show, but like many 4Kids shows it's pretty fun to watch for all the wrong reasons.

Also we watched a bunch of Yu Gi Oh beforehand, and comparatively Sonic X is a goddamn masterpiece so I felt like being nicer to it.

    3. Strickerx5

I found the jp version to be slightly better on multiple occasions. Mainly in VA work, cut scenes, and overall music work.

It's still a pretty bad anime though.

    4. Gregzilla

While X is pretty bad nowadays, when watching it again I could at least see why I liked it as a kid.  For all its terrible qualities it still at least tried to have a bit of stakes and adventure from time to time.  The idea of Sonic having stories with arcs and huge space-faring journeys and whatnot is pretty appealing to kid-me, and I could see that sort of thing working pretty well in the hands of better writers and directors.

    5. Shaddy Zaphod

      Shaddy Zaphod

JP is waaay better on an audio front, as well as the lack of censorship not ruining some of the more dramatic moments.

At it's best, it's a relatively-faithful animated imitation of the games. At it's worst, it's a frustratingly stupid anime about characters completely unrelated to Sonic.

As with 06, Chronicles and Chaotix, most of it's original ideas (that is to say the space arc and nothing else) are poorly executed but could be put to good use as plot elements should a different, more talented team put in charge.

I'd still love to see a full anime Sonic series that doesn't have extra useless humans crowding the spotlight and stealing screentime I could be seeing Eggman during, and it really annoys me because the original pitch for X looked like it would have been exactly that.

    6. Dejimon11

I saw the boat episode a few days ago which is considered to be the best episode and I hated it. As for Sonic X in Japan I heard that the show wasn't really well received there since ya know that area doesn't care for the franchise that much and the only reason why it got a 3rd season was because of it's popularity overseas. Again that's what I heard

    7. Gregzilla

See, in a show with good writing, putting all the characters on a cruise ship for an episode would be great fun.  It's classic character writing - if the personalities are strong enough then you can put em in any random situation and come out with something engaging.  Sonic characters can DEFINITELY work in stuff like that I think, but again, just needs better writing.

    8. Strickerx5

I will say that Sonic in the boat episode is probably the best comedic styling the character has seen. Ever.

Guy tries to speed launch himself off the thing, like what XD

    9. Shaddy Zaphod

      Shaddy Zaphod

The problem is that all the best incarnations of each character are locked halfway across the planet from the people doing the decision making in a box with "Cancelled??" written on it.

    10. Dejimon11

I want another story driven Sonic show again I think it can work with good writing. Also make it a Netflix original so at least we know it won't get screwed over

    11. Shaddy Zaphod

      Shaddy Zaphod

Get Ian Flynn to write it and the guys who made the Avatar shows to do everything else

    12. Dejimon11

So Ian Flynn + the guys who are currently doing Voltron Legendary Defender = Win?

    13. Shaddy Zaphod

      Shaddy Zaphod

Uh probably? I never watched Voltron anything

    14. Dejimon11

A couple folks who worked on TLA and LoK went on to make that show and it is awesome. They also got the same animation studio who did Korra

    15. Shaddy Zaphod

      Shaddy Zaphod

      Ok then yes

Except get Trigger specifically for the animation

  5. what the jolly shit

    1. Dejimon11

I just want to know why? It's literally an animated version of Willy Wanka and the chocolate factory which would of been fine on it's own. Tom & Jerry just seem shoe horned in and are just there for comic relief so it seems pointless.

    2. Silencer226
    3. CottonCandy

So... this is just a animated take on the chocolate factory but with Tom and Jerry randomly tossed in.

    4. Boomer

Damn, I'd enjoy this quite a lot if they weren't in there. Love the colours used...

    5. Dejimon11

Seriously holy shit the animation looks good what the hell?

    6. Forte-Metallix

...I'd say stranger crossovers have happened, but I'm not sure if they have.

    7. Ryannumber1gamer

Are you kidding me. Those designs look terrible.

@Forte-Metallix Marvel characters in a fighting game with Capcom characters sounds like an odd idea

      It's already on a video?

Also let me guess: Tom and Jerry's shenanigans cause the other kids to well, get kicked out of the factory or...

      No seriously what

Also, huh, they're still making these.

  6. does anyone know what the music is in this doofy video

(the description implies it's from Initial D but i couldn't find it)

  7. As much criticism as I had for BOTW, I gotta say, it's pretty easy to forget all that when I'm actually playing it.  Such a fun and relaxing experience.  So in a way I think of my criticisms less as "here's what it did wrong" and more like "this game is awesome, but it could be MORE awesome in the future."  I'm legit pumped to see what stuff Nintendo has in store for its franchises going forward.

    1. Wraith

Yeah this is basically how I feel. The game's flaws are pretty plentiful when you think about it but the core is EXCELLENT and the flaws come from "They didn't go far enough here". That's probably the best flaw you can have tbh

  8. What are you folks' favorite anime openings?  Of the ones I've seen I'd say Mob Psycho, the first FMA Brotherhood op, and the second Stardust Crusaders OP are the most impressive.

    1. FriendBot

Cory in the House's opening was a true classic

    2. Gregzilla

how could i forget doubutsu no cory

    3. Dejimon11

FMA Brotherhood's first opening, My Hero Academia's first opening, every Jojo opening, most of the Pokemon Openings in both dub and subs, One Punch Man's

    4. -Ace-

Hard to say my all time favorite but right now it's this

    5. FriendBot

For shame Greg, for shame. I gave you a pass for that Lost World review for starting another slammin' Knuckles meme but this is inexcusable.

    6. Shaddy Zaphod

      Shaddy Zaphod

Naruto's second OP is unforgettable to me, as is One Punch Man's. Berserk (the good one) also has a great theme, and of course someone will mention Evangelion at some point so I guess that's me.

Also, Yu Yu Hakusho is getting it's OP stuck in my head more often than not nowadays.

    7. The Deleter

      The Deleter

Prolly FMA's first and fourth openings, mob psycho's, Cowboy Beybop's, and One Piece's first and third openings, in no particular order.

FMA's first one is definitely at the top tho

    8. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

      I have a couple.

      Rozen Maiden

You might had noticed a little trend. That's just me.

    9. Strickerx5

Man, most of the Naruto OPs are fucking amazing.

If I had to choose one outside of that series, I'd go with the second Kill La Kill opener. Like damn, Ambiguous gives me life.

    10. Wraith

Guren Lagann, KLK's second opening, Tank!, Space Dandy, Flip Flappers, every FMAB opening, Bloody Stream, Naruto Opening 9, The newest Lupin III opening, Samurai Champloo off the top of my head

    11. MegasonicZX

The opening from an anime called steam detectives (would link the video but it got taken down at some point).

  9. UNNECESSARY SONIC NITPICK #1412: i don't really like the current 1-up jingle from 06 onwards, the Adventure one was cooler

    1. Forte-Metallix

I do like that tune, but I prefer it being exclusive to getting a Chaos Emerald, and 1-Ups having their own theme, like in 3&K.

    2. Gregzilla

Yeah I'd probably agree, I wouldn't mind having that tune stick with the emeralds and have each game's 1-Up theme reference that game's main theme tune instead.

  10. Puyo Puyo Tetris looks fun.

    Puyo Puyo Tetris is fun.

Did SEGA pay you to say this

      Dee Dude

too skinny to be cat mario

    2. Solly

that is absolutely my most-hated Mario power up, but I'd welcome this

    3. Penny

honestly, i hope it is bubsy, because that would be hilarious

    4. Gregzilla
  12. Played a bit of Yooka-Laylee's first world.  Seems alright.  Nowhere near terrible, a decent bit of fun, but also not as focused or charming as BK.  I feel like I'll play for a little bit and then forget about it.

  13. Finally finished Diamond is Unbreakable.  I think Stardust Crusaders left a bigger impression on me, but DiU is the best in plenty of ways, especially art direction.  Also really liked how bizarre and convoluted the Stand powers got, and the main group of characters were very likable.

  14. all this zelda talk is getting Kass's music stuck in my head

  15. Part of the reason I think Zeldas should be smaller than BotW is so the world doesn't need repeated content. I like finding the hidden bosses like the Hinoxes and Moldugas, but I'd find it more exciting if you would just find THE Hinox and THE Molduga.  One off discoveries feel more special.

    1. Wraith

I don't mind there being multiple variants of some boss monsters, but some one offs would have been appreciated. I was convinced there was only one Molduga for the longest, though, so at least he's rare.

    2. The Deleter

      The Deleter

I dunno if making them one-off is the way to go, since tougher enemies are a lot of fun in my opinion, but they definitely lose their luster by the fourth time around for sure.

Really just needs more enemy variety to solve it, honestly. If Pikmin can have 12+ special bosses while having tons of different smaller enemies, I don't see why Zelda can't. *shrug*

That, and finding a special boss in a gigantic game feels a lot more special than finding one in a smaller game imo; though, I dunno what degree of "smaller" you're thinking about, here

    3. Gregzilla

Well, I hate to be a one-trick pony, but I'll have to refer to my beloved Dark Souls on how optional bosses can be done right.  The series is chock full of great bosses, and a lot of them are just off the beaten path and in hidden, hard to find areas that make you feel like a champ for finding.  Plus it's Dark Souls and it's hard, so beating them is super satisfying too.

BotW's open world is much different from Dark Souls, which is more like a tightly compact Metroidvania as opposed to something like a huge Skyrim land, but I think it can have moments like that just as well.  The first time I found a Hinox in a reservoir kinda near Hiteno Village, I actually got that feeling of excitement, thinking I'd found a totally unique boss in this one area in the whole world.

There can also be stuff like Lynel's too though, very tough enemies, but without boss health bars so that it doesn't feel like a boss fight was wasted on a repeat encounter.

    4. Wraith

More dark souls influence would be nice in general

    5. Gregzilla

I agree but if I had my way then every game would be dark souls

    6. The Deleter

      The Deleter

Well that's what I'm talking about; Dark Souls makes it feel valuable because it's difficult to find off the beaten, obvious path, and feels so much more rewarding to find and defeat than a boss would feel otherwise, but with Zelda you have to actively seek out this kind of stuff, in a world without those barriers and hallways, like you said. If they were all closer together, it might feel a little too pedestrian to find and beat them, as the closer they are to the main content, the less optional and secretive they'd seem. Just feels like they go hand-in-hand with the world size itself for once, unlike most of the other content in the game.

    7. Diogenes

a few unique overworld bosses would be great, but they'd need to be more complex than moldugas and hinoxes. hinoxes especially are chumps; as rare, special enemies that's fine, but it'd be underwhelming for there to be just one and it be as simple as they are in botw.

    8. The Deleter

      The Deleter

Also am I the only one who just sat in disbelief when I realized the "bosses at the end of/found in shrines" basically amounted to the combat trials and sentry bot #36, every single time?

Of all the letdown I found with the game, that's gotta be the biggest one I had, definitely...

    9. Gregzilla

Bosses in general were one of my biggest letdowns with BotW.  Apart from the final boss, not only did they feel strangely clumsy and unpolished, but they all looked the same and had zero personality.  Like the dungeons themselves, it basically amounted to "I am one of four thingies you must get past so you can complete the video game."  Cmon yo, gimme some bosses with cool designs and unique lore.

  16. guys can you help me remember this stupid sonic animation someone made, all i remember is that it was crudely animated and that it involved sonic screaming and getting launched into the sun

    1. Gregzilla

    2. Celestia

      Isn't that all of 'em

    3. Osmium

      the fuck

is Sonic getting launched into the sun like a genre or something

    4. RosaRosaRosalina

it's beautiful how dare you call it stupid

  17. saw Power Rangers, don't do that

    1. Dejimon11
    2. Boomer

      As did I, do that.

    3. Gregzilla

It's not the worst movie ever, but it's just yet another goofy kid's franchise turned into an overly dramatic and desaturated attempt at being more serious.  Like Bayformers, I get the feeling that the creators resent the original franchise's goofiness rather than love and embrace it.  It was a joyless slog.

And I'm not even attached to the franchise really.  After looking up the character designs, I imagine fans of the show wouldn't be very happy with it either.

    4. Ferno

      no go power rangerssss

    5. TheOcelot

I thought it was good. Apart from the zords combat which was rubbish and the ending mid-credits scene which was a badly done reveal "oh of course you'll get a sequel".

I thought the idea that Rita & Zordon were power rangers originally was an interesting new take on it.

Presumably in the sequel Rita sets up her base on the moon and gives the green powers toTommy etc.

    6. Boomer

As someone who's a fan of the series, like I've a full scale Red Ranger helmet, it was still plenty goofy.

Like when they slapped Rita into space...

I think them having the main five actually, well, being five teenagers with attitude worked. It also allowed for some emotional scenes, mainly with Billy.

Unlike Bayformers this still treated it's characters with respect.

    7. PaulyBFromDa303

That's only 1 out of 10 that say don't see it though.

  18. I'm honestly really worried Walking Dead is just gonna go on forever.  I can imagine next season being a great stopping point, but I feel like they could potentially milk it for too long.

    1. Dejimon11

well considering the comics are still a thing who knows

    2. KHCast

I stopped after season 5. But yeah there's like 2 shows, the video games, comics, etc. I don't see it dying(pun totally intended)

    3. Nast

it's early morning and i misread this as "i'm honestly worried waluigi is dead"

    4. Mr Loopone

      Mr Loopone

Yeah, I can see it being milked until the show no longer has the ratings and even then if the series is still popular via other ways, there might be a movie or a reboot in the future. I'm actually surprised that the show is still popular really.

    5. JezMM

I lost touch with it at the end of Season 3 - it became a subscription channel-only show here in the UK after Season 3 and I just couldn't be arsed to download it instead.  I used to enjoy it but don't really miss it either.  The Telltale games, imperfect as they are, are my favourite branch of the series and the only thing I pay attention to these days.

Even though I kept watching I definitely didn't love any of it as much as the first Season.  The story was so tight with so much happening every episode due to the short-form 6-episode format and, completely as expected, the story beats became significantly more drawn out when it was made into a regular style show with a whole load of episodes to make each season.

I'd have LOVED if they had made the show stay short-form like that, make it each season be like a yearly "event" that lasts a month and a half, but obviously that doesn't make the $$$$$

Season 3 of the game has been really good for me so far though, it's a shame that Season 2 soured everyone's opinion of it, seemingly permanently.

  19. started watching FMA (Brotherhood).  i like it.  drew a lust.  tumblr_onrfq9LTLQ1sccgsyo2_540.png

    2. Ferno

      Looks fantastic.

    3. Radiant Hero Ike

      Radiant Hero Ike

      this is so good

also I'm glad you're watching my favorite anime, I'm proud of you son

  20. Hate to say it but I am really not digging Nier: Automata.  It's got the flashy combat of a Platinum game but it's trapped in a ridiculously boring series of events, plus knowing that progressing through the story requires multiple playthroughs completely kills my motivation.  I think I'll be selling this one.

    1. Gregzilla

It makes me sad because it's so polished, not to mention the incredible music.  Every now and then the aesthetics are lovely (the bunker is especially beautiful in its simplicity) but it just feels like it doesn't quite come together.

  21. Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City is one hell of a sendoff for the series.  The final boss puts the base game's to shame, not to mention pretty much every other boss from every other video game.

  22. BotW's Hyrule Castle music is a strong contender for my favorite music in the whole series

    1. JezMM

I'm starting to think nothing will ever top Spirit Temple for me

But... BotW Hyrule Castle is unquestionably the best final dungeon theme in the series.

    2. MegasonicZX

Yeah, it made me sad to leave the place because it was so good. Definitely the best track in the game (fitting since its technically the final place you'd go to.

  23. no one kids like gaston no one squids like gaston

    1. KHCast

But do they Smash like gaston?

  24. Marvel movies often have really strangely depressing colors that don't really fit the tone or costumes, but the new Spider-Man posters look really nicely saturated.  Hope the movie is as well.

  25. BotW spoilers:

I gotta say, Calamity Ganon's first boss phase has a great design.  I was expecting something like the classic upright standing pig man with swords, but instead they just went full on scary mode and made him a horrific abomination.  Love it, it's been a long time since I've seen a Nintendo game go dark like that, and I was hoping Zelda would do it.  Zelda and Metroid in particular could benefit a lot from scary moments, as long as they don't try too hard like Twilight Princess.

    1. Ratcicle King

      Ratcicle King

It looked like something ripped straight out of Metroid Prime, it was great.
