Faseeh reacted to Wraith in Anyone else bored of Eggman being the villain? Also the series should go back to basics!
It's been long enough since the last Shadow focused game that I'd support another one if Maekawa came back and had more ideas.

Faseeh reacted to Blue Blood in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed...!
ASRT is one of the absolute best kart racers that I've ever played. Mario Kart created and defined the genre, but ASRT does far more than just attempt to clone it. If SEGA could afford to have let Sumo spend more time polishing the game and if the SEGA IPs weren't so weak (literally who gives a fuck about characters like Pudding or MeeMee?), it would have serious potential as a Mario Kart competitor. I would love to see another game in the series.

Faseeh got a reaction from Jar Jar Analysis 1138 in Sonic Unleashed - What is it now after four years?
This game is awesome. Pure awesomeness. It's got everything I need. I like Generations more, but this is a close second.

Here's how I see it. The Classic Era is an equivalent of the Modern Era. Both started from nothing cos' 06 was that bad. The first game, well yeah, Sonic 1 did a greater job for Sonic compared to Unleashed, but to me, naaah. The second, Colors and Sonic 2, did about the same for him. The last, pretty much did everything done in the two titles before better. So yeah.

The thing I love about Unleashed is the Story. How grand it is. It's amazing. It was a good mixture of dark and cheery, that was not done much better before.

Also, I like Chip, a great character. Also, the NPCs were great and full of life.

The OST is very varied, it's not my most favourite for a few reasons, but it's good.

The level design might be linear, but it has a lot of stuff to break and find and it feels real satisfying to do a perfect run.

My love for this game will just keep increasing till SEGA do everything this did right and mesh it up with everything Generations did right. Then, I'll pretty much have my dream Sonic game.

Faseeh reacted to Soniman in Sonic Forces Impressions
I kinda prefer when there wasn't a "classic" and "modern" Sonic and it was just "Sonic", but that's just me. At least Gens kept to the idea it was the same Sonic and not diffrent dimensions or other dumb bullshit.

To all the people wondering why we're disappointed, let me just ask this: Even though it's 6 years later and on more powerful hardware, why is it that the level design is a massive step down from Generations? Instead of just a generic Lost World style 2D stage why can't we have something like this? :
You know level design that is mostly 3D, has platforming that complements speed and flexible design that skilled players can experiment with and find paths that grants then faster times, like so:

If after watching these 2 videos you still think that the level design is not lazy and that Sonic Team despite clearly knowing how to do better than this, doesn't seem to care enough to do it, then I have no idea what else to tell you, you are settling for less instead of expecting equal or superior quality to what was done previously, and quite frankly you shouldn't.
Shouldn't this game take what Generations did best and expand and improve upon it? Is it really unreasonable to expect Sonic Team to improve upon their previous work rather than regress?

Faseeh reacted to Crazy_Diamond in Sonic Forces - Shadow DLC and new Screenshot
That's completely nonsensical. Are you saying that free DLC necessarily shows a lack of confidence? The Zelda DLC in Lost World was free, and they made a bunch of new assets for that. In fact, it was one of my favorite levels in the game. Most of the content in Splatoon is free DLC, and the game sold over 5 million copies, with it's distribution model being near universally praised. Plus, they are not sneaking it in. They are advertising it RIGHT NOW. How can you say they don't have confidence in it when they are advertising it?

Faseeh reacted to Blue Blood in Iizuka: There will not be a Sonic Adventure 3 & what future Sonic titles will be like
I generally think Iizuka comes off much worse in interviews than he really is. From what I understand, he was part of the driving force behind Mania. He genuinely believed in that project and allowed it to become what it is. If he was given free reign to direct a new Sonic game withotu being strong-armed by anyone higher up in SEGA, I wonder what we'd get.
The Adventure style gameplay (for Sonic, not the rest of the genre roulette) is the way forwards for Sonic in 3D. It's almost 20 years since SA1 first came out. There's a lot of way it could be improved and expanded upon.

To be honest, still intrigued but was definitely thrown off and not fond of the cutscene when I first saw it. I like metal guitars, I like that Jun is back, I like that it's not just Ohtani on the soundtrack. Something about the cutscenes looks... unpolished to me though? From Sonic's homing attack animation to the lighting... Kinda looks like Colors' cutscenes but less polished. At least in the first cut scene where Sonic gets hit. It just has no impact to me, when it could be a lot more powerful? The other cut scene seems fine to me though. Still looking forward.

Faseeh reacted to Indigo Rush in What YOU think of Sonic Mania
Sonic Mania is a wild one. I can understand why a select folks here might be underwhelmed, apathetic or confused over this; it's catering to a particular generation of Sonic fans... but what makes this particular iteration of 'pandering' different from the likes of Classic Sonic in Generations, or Sonic 4, is twofold: its composition and its backstory.
Sonic Mania, as it is now, should not exist. Sonic Mania as a licensed property of Sega's flagship franchise should not be a game being developed by independent developers from different pockets of the Sonic fan community. Sonic Mania, given Sega's reputation of blatantly misunderstanding the core DNA of what identifies a Sonic game, let alone a Classic Sonic game, should not be getting so many things right. Furthermore, Sonic Mania, being a 'cash-in' sidescroller, should not have the attention to detail in graphics, animation and sound that it has.
Sonic Mania, by precedent, should have been an old fashioned 16-bit graphics microgame with pseudo-chiptune music, off-kilter physics, linear and automated level design with unfair difficulty and uninspired platforming, only one playable character, and be composed entirely of poorly disguised rehashes of old levels. Sonic Mania should have been a cheap cash-in.
    But it's not.
It's absolutely none of these things. It has no right to be. But it is. Sonic Mania is an anomaly.
Sonic Mania is being made, produced and directed by longtime fans of the series who understand what works and what doesn't. It's being spearheaded by fans who reverse engineered and otherwise hacked the old games in what would otherwise have been considered an illegal activity, fans who instead of being DMCA'd ages ago, have been given jobs to make this. It's being designed by level designers who not only know how to mimic the old games, but to have enough sense to sort out the imperfections and foibles that the Classic (and Modern) games generally suffer from, and even go above and beyond, not afraid to try things the Classic games haven't done yet.
It's Zones are not trying to pass off Green Hill under a different name: it presents you with these old, tired Zones and, after luring you into a false sense of security, proceeds to kick you in the groin with a completely different second act, not with "same but different" level design structure, but with all new designs, gimmicks and pacing that does everything it can to distance itself from the initial proposal of a rehash; and with good music, to boot. And yes, brand new Zones. Don't forget Studiopolis and Mirage Saloon, and you'd better believe they've done everything they can to hide the goods from us. There's going to be more to come, and they won't be anything we've ever seen before.
It takes the 16-bit aesthetic and doubles the capacity with 32-bit graphics, incredible art design and smooth 60 fps animations that the Genesis could only dream of. It's not satisfied with just saving time by using old level graphics, it cleans up and enhances even the simple checkerboards in Green Hill even if you aren't bothered to pay attention to the increase in detail: why? Because these fans love Sonic.
And that's what it comes down to. It's not a product of target marketing techniques, it's not a half-hearted attempt to regain a demographic, it's a labor of love by some of the coolest, nicest, most talented fans the series has produced. Christian, Simon, Tom, Jared, Taryn, Kieran, Tee, Falk, Brad, Hunter, and... man, just everyone involved are people we knew as fangame makers, composers and remixers, and otherwise great members of the community... Sonic Mania is their game. Sonic Mania is being made by our friends. It's for us. This is our game. This is the game that they, us, dreamed to see one day. The Sonic game that captures the speed, the style, the enthusiasm, the sense of adventure, the heart and charm that Sonic games these days, not just the sidescrollers, have failed to efficiently capture.
So... is Sonic Mania a fan game? You know what, you're darn right it is. It's a game made by fans, for fans. By the Mania, for the Mania. If that's what it means to be a fan game, then I embrace that title with open arms. Calling it a fangame isn't derogatory, it's complementary, because the fans rock.
But if you think there's no ambition or heart involved, that it doesn't push the envelope just because it looks and plays like the old games, then put on your boxing gloves and enter the ring, it's gonna be ugly. I've waited years for this game. Let's go, I'll fight for it to the end, because it's a quality product that's being made by our friends.
After years of brainless pandering and bone tossing, we're finally getting the next step in the Classic Sonic series; and it's going to be phenomenal.

So what do I think of Sonic Mania?
I dunno. I think it'll be pretty good. It's got Green Hill again, though lol what's up with that.

Faseeh reacted to Chris Knopps in New Sonic Forces - "Enter Infinite" Trailer
I think the trailer points out just how bad their current voice actors are at emotions that differ from what Sonic Team forced into the franchise over the years. With the cast, especially Sonic, being so limited in how he can express himself, what he's allowed to show, when he tries to be legitimately serious and/or show emotions outside of his usual smug persona it just sounds/feels weird.
Then you have the scene where he says he doesn't even know the villains name and that scene screams Lost World the way Infinite talks and Sonic behaves.
They are still holding the cast back too much, trying to maintain some standard of what they can do in scenes, and it makes the scenes feel awkward and it shows the actors aren't used to doing things beyond what little they usually allow. The emotions in Lost World felt just as awkward because of the company keeping the characters personalities so limited making it difficult for actors to perform right. Sonic getting beaten up even sounds... Generic? Off? You don't really hear the pain he should be expressing, especially when splattered into a wall.

The theme of the game isn't Sonic, Sonic and Avatar saving the world from Eggman's takeover, it's
Shadow the Hedgehog fighting to claim his right as the ultimate edgelord of the franchise. Infinite is SHADOW'S RIVAL.

Not gonna lie this is the best "dark" vocal theme to date and the first one in a LONG time that really sounds like it could be an actual piece of commercial music not from a kids' video game.  It actually really makes me nostalgic for the kinda angsty shit I was listening to during the golden years of "serious" Sonic (for better or worse) and I'm loving that.

I myself would love to say that I love the Green Hill remix, it just sounds beautiful.

The 'biased' selection of the tracks just happened because musicians just chose whatever they wanted to cover haha, I myself would love to hear more the more Modern tracks get more love as well. Thank you for the compliment tho, Jez! An older track of mine but I appreciate it

So OCR just dropped this. Thought I'd give it a signal boost among the most passionate of Sonic fans haha. I was able to be a small part of it (Coral Caves with Jorito and Joshua Taipale, 0:55 in the trailer  )

The music in the series honestly is one of the best features to me. It's what made me start making music so I have a lot of sentimental value to it, it's nice to see a Sonic remix album tribute to songs across so many of the games. :') Happy birthday blue blur, you've been an important part of my life.

Haven't heard the rest of the album yet, just had to check it out first since I love the original song so much
