Faseeh got a reaction from ThatOddLiam in Park Avenue Custom Hero Remix - Faseeh & Joshua Kruszyna (EXShad) [Rock N' Bass]
Hello SSMB! As you all may or may not know, I'm still looking forward to Forces despite so many of the flaws. Saw the huge remix potential for this track when my friend asked me to collaborate with him and here's what happened. Hope you like this remix! Share your thoughts and please do spread the track/video.

This track features myself, Faseeh, on the rapping vocals and production, Joshua Kruszyna on the guitars, Sirenstar as the singer and Jay K (MFSTATE) on the violins.

A common cliché is having a good character who was either a villain in the past or has questionable morality being on the new bad guys's side as a mole to spy its movements and taking the perfect moment to strike.
You know, kinda like what Rouge was doing for the governament in SA2, so they're not even new to this.

Nepenthe's post covers of most of what I want to say, but I'm feeling really positive about this. THE VERY END of the Modern Park Avenue level footage we saw gives me hope for level design that's at least as fun as say, Modern Crisis City. I'd still love Modern Seaside Hill levels of vast exploration, but this is ain't bad. I love that the cast is back (mah boi Silver and Shadow seem in on the action). Custom Character's Green Hill looks cool, the Egg Dragoon is nice.

I really hope each level has a story based incentive. Generations, Unleashed, Colors lacked that but the fact that Sonic is being encouraged to find Shadow in Park Avenue gives me hope. Hope the story is interesting this time.
Yup, I'm positive and I really hope I'll enjoy the game. Of course, I'm not blind and I do see the MANY flaws in the game, but I don't plan to concentrate on it too much for now. Looking forward to more info!

Some story incentives where each level has its own purpose in service to the overall narrative would be nice. We haven't had that kind of plotting in over a decade. Hoping that they don't take the easy way out and just go "You have to destroy the seven Egg Robos!"

Its that kind of limited thinking that got us the cannon fodder level enemies we see today.
Sure your standard fair trash mob enemies will almost always be encountered and blown away in such a manner. But that issue is not some inherent unwritten rule of the boost formula, but rather a lack of creativity and outside the box thinking for the dev team behind the concept. We've seen succsess in this field. Even the lowly motobug got a promotion. By utilizing its speed in Sonic Colors, there was an entire stage designed to fighting an old school enemy in a new way. By having the motobugs put that unicycle wheel to use, and move alongside Sonic, the essentially increased the reaction time available to deal with them as a threat. By running side by side with the enemies, new possibilities were opened up as to what they could reasonably expect the player to be able to deal with. Why we never saw that again I'll never know.
We saw this again in Unleashed with the Interceptor and the Aero Chaser. We saw it in Generations with the blimp. We saw it in Sonic 06 mach speed zones for crying out loud. If you want to have badniks that can do a little bit more than become living speed bumps, you have to give them the ability to move with Sonic. Freedom to chase, freedom to do what Sonic and his friends are best known for. The devs understand this. They have utilized it to a small extent, but we haven't seen it blossom to where it needs to be.
This philosophy isn't new. Look back to the classics. Heck, look at Mania. Just take a sample to the ratio of badniks that aggressively hunt the player as he moves by. (Usually with the ability to clip through walls no less). For every stationary, "I'mma attack u when you get in my range" Catterkiller, there is at least one Bat-Brain or Shutter-Fly with a raging hard on for blue hedgehog that just wont quit. There is a balance between badniks that hold/guard their turf and are a bit tougher to kill, vs smaller more nimble badniks that present more of a speedy challenge. The boost formula needs to reemphasize badniks to regain this. Right now robots are little more than set-pieces or stepping stones. There are very few that are meant to be true interference to your progression. Dev's need to re-establish that age old balance. A larger percentage of badniks need some sort of capability to force the players hand.
Dragon Road is a great example of this. Egg Fighters toting spring shields are specifically designed to be challenge for users whom over rely on the boost. They are strategically planted to force the player to avoid, or deal with them in a different way. To punish people who blindly march in with a homing shot or a boost. Much like the shield toting badniks of Casinopolis all those years ago, they are designed to take your signature move(s) and throw it back in your face. That is golden enemy design. Many Dragon Road platforming sections feature rocket launcher enemies that attempt to force your hand and quicken your pace and decision making while you traverse a bottomless pit. That is classic era level enemy design and placement at its finest.
We can see the groundwork for the evolution of badnik design in the boost formula games. The devs have shown themselves capable of doing so on a small scale, we simply need them to increase the sample size to balance out the robot trash mobs that serve no other purpose but to be destroyed for the spectacle.

This is where Forces come in. In order to evolve, the boost formula, we need to see them utilize some of the badniks in different ways in order to change them from all cannon fodder all the time, to a living part of the environment that poses a significant risk. We've seen trashmobs get blown away. But we've also seen a new enemy type that lends us a bit of hope.

That sucker is clearly designed to chase. He's got rocket launchers on his side too. Dealing with this badnik will evoke an immediate response and force the player to deal with the threat. It reeks of interceptor, but when you get down to it, you don't even need mid-teir super badniks to accomplish this feat. Anyone who's plays Sonic understands the difference in cognition that happens when you come across a Chomper vs when you come across a Slicer or an Asteron. If you don't change course immediately to react to what the latter two are doing, you are going to have a very bad day. Forces needs a healthy mix of standard enemies, mixed in with precision shooters (like buzzbombers) sprinkled in with a few base enemy types that pose a significant threat to your ring count. A well placed Coconuts goes a long way.
I hope they strike that balance in Forces. Its not like the boost formula can't do it. The dev team just seems to get away from what makes a good badnik sometimes. Gotta refocus on what each of them does, the role they play, and where they put them to use. Synergy is key. Place an anti-air badnik next to a bubbles chain. Give Buzzbombers explosive payloads and Kamikaze tactics while you boost at them head on. Let more enemy types MOVE. With a more combat heavy focused custom character, we may well see better enemy conceptual design. Here is hoping that some of that bleeds over into Modern Sonic's stages too.

He's also only been in this position since roughly halfway through this game's development time, so it wouldn't matter anyway. This also goes for SEGA's general attempt to get back on track recently as well as Iizuka apparently moving to the SoA branch. If any of these things have any influence on Sonic Team's games whatsoever, we won't see it until, well...the next game.

This track isn't bad. Other than theme music, this is the only track I kinda like.

And that is a huge bummer to me personally. I love so many Sonic OSTs wholeheartedly and the music is so important to what I love about the series, but most of the stuff now isn't as impressive as it used to be anymore to me. Lost World, Runners and now this game fall under this trend. Don't get me wrong I loved some of Ohtani's stuff too (like in Unleashed), but he is being stretched WAY too thin right now.

Where's the rest of the musicians at Sonic Team? Where are the other musicians usually involved in Sonic (Runblebee, Cash Cash, Richard Jacques)?

Oh well. At lest Mania will have a cool soundtrack.

The hype from that gorgeous Sonic Mania trailer by Tyson Hesse was a slow burn but it finally got to me and I just had to have a crack at drawing something in his adorable Sonic style from said trailer and the Sonic Mega Drive comics.  Since I've been playing a bit of Sonic CD like, every day for the past couple of months I figured I'd do a little something in tribute to that.

There were so many little things outside of my comfort zone here but it was super fun to draw.

It's not actually that far out of the realms of possibility.  If I recall Sonic 1 has a secret credits screen that lists the developers real names instead of their odd codenames they use in the regular credits.  It'd also be kinda similar to the little secret in which you can change Tails' name to "Miles" in Sonic 2.

Off topic, but I'd like it when, during the credits where they list off Christian Whitehead, Simon Thomley, etc, you can press and hold a button and everyone's names (where applicable) will change to their Sonic Retro online handle with their avatars (Taxman, Stealth) just as a heartfelt reminder that this game is made by the fans, for the fans.

Having Sonic 3 style "looping" 2P stages would be neat but I wouldn't want to see too much effort go into such a side mode.  Re-using visuals from the existing stages is fine to create "looping versions", but creating unique ones feels like a wasted effort that could go into better 1P content.  Considering the retro stages was already likely a decision made with lightening the workload for the team in mind, making unique multiplayer stages would make no sense really.
No reason to not include both as an option really.  Personally for a game like Sonic where spacial awareness is important in all directions, I feel it'd make the most sense to offer a bordered mode where the screens are smaller but give you almost the same field of view you get in 1P mode, something kinda like this:

I felt like making a mockup idk.  Obviously you'd re-arrange the HUD for player 2 and ideally I'd want the borders to be pixellated like the rest of the game but I didn't have all day for this lol.  But yeah, most people have HD screens for playing games on nowadays so a view like this would be perfectly readable.

    Correct.
People aren't impressed with Forces because it's not doing anything impressive, not because Sonic Team's at the helm. It's not like Colors and Generations got the same reception Forces is getting now. Those games still got a decent amount of praise despite Sonic Team's tarnished reputation.

Imagining a "Sonic Forces" that's focused on Sonic building a team out of his friends and allies sounds like a much more cohesive and focused game that also responds to fan criticism with it's premise alone. It makes perfect sense with the long gap between games allowing them to think carefully about what to do next.

So of course that's not what we got.
