I think this sums up my thoughts perfectly towards CN right now.

Butch pretty much stated that CN doesn't care about the adult fans and thinks that the style is being overused.

Thundercats was never something that caught my interest, in fact I was never even aware of the 2011 series at the time it aired. My issue with Thundercats Roar is it sets a poor precedent for future animation on Cartoon Network by telling its audience, "Oh those action cartoons that had a lot of effort put into their creation and left an impact on you? They're unprofitable, so here have this cheap excuse for a comedy that's completely interchangeable with every other program we've already got."

That's not even mentioning the very unprofessional manner in which the staff responsible for this show have handled the feedback they've received. Everything surrounding this show is just a mess and it hasn't even aired yet.

      How unprofessional we talking?

I mean, it wouldn’t be the first time CN canned something for dumb reasons like they did for Young Justice, and placed something else in its place. But I figured they didn’t do that for this one at least.

Seems like they’re continuing the trend as usual.

I really don't like the implication that the team isn't putting any effort into the show creatively.

      Like, seriously?

      C'mon.

The head of the TC Roar team also admitted on twitter he thinks the original Thunder Cats series is awful and believes his show is WAY better... He also doesn't care at all about the old fans and said his show is only for new viewers who are kids... Yeah you don't need to feel sorry for him or his show.

      Wow...got a link for that?

See I’m more a fan of the 2011 version than the old show for modernizing what the original did. Mind you, I watched the old one first, but the show is more dated than awful given it was made in the 80s, and the 2011 had moments where they made plot twists out of fucking nowhere with no hints of any kind, but that’s just...

I don’t get this age of cyclical disrespect we’re in over content these days.

That guy is entitled to his extremely closedminded opinion, no matter how unbelievably wrong it is to insult the old show and people who like the old show. I mean there are things about the old 80s show that are kinda cringy by today's standards, but it was a excellent show for it's time.

In anycase, this guy definitely has a special place in hell for where he is going regardless.

I'll admit that if I put myself in his shoes, he's probably been pelted by nonstop hail storms of anon hate mail and death threats, etc. if anything I'd probably be a little snarky or sarcastic too after awhile, same with my team members.

    12. Nix

      Nix

CN didn't go "oh hey, let's cancel the 2011 Thundercats reboot because we're going to release a new more comedy focused cartoon in 8 years, fuck them right?"

It got canceled because animation like that is hard as hell and expensive to make.  It sucks ass that it was canceled, but there's no feasible way for them to recoup the costs if they kept on making it.  Cable Television isn't as lucrative as it used to be, the audience for those animated actions shows simply aren't tuning in for them, even more so with the rise of streaming services.

So, I'll say it again Thundercats Roar didn't replace anything.  And I still don't care about the implication of the team not putting any effort into the show.  Animation is fucking hard, repetitious, and tedious as hell.  I doubt anyone would be there if they didn't have a passion for it.

I do have some links of it still I think. PM me if you want me to really send them to you.

Also... THIS video sums up my thoughts on the show! xD

So what, Nix? Yes, animation is hard to make, but it's no excuse. And it's not a valid reason to defend rather atrocious decisions from the head of cartoons like these. If it's 'too hard', then don't be making a show that hard to make in the first place. It's a little something called know thy limits. The other thing is that CN isn't able to recoop a lot of what they make because they have brazenly ignoring the large masses of people who despise a lot what is offered. The hate against shows like Roar are not unjustified. And you trying to make it sound like it is, is dumbfounding.

No matter what maybe the case, it doesn't change the fact that the landscape of CN is deplorable. So little is good and so little of what is good is dying. I am almost determined to believe it really is due to either incompetence or laziness. Especially since CN is money hungry for toy line type stuff that shows can produce.

@Nix I find that hard to believe given that a lot of other projects like Young Justice that were probably just as expensive and hard as hell to animate were canceled because the higher ups didn’t like girls watching it since they didn’t buy the toys.

Nevermind that they moved Thundercats to a slot were more action-oriented audiences could watch it on Adult Swim/Toonami.

Even considering that, that just makes them sound cheap as hell, which actually wouldn’t be that surprising.

Edit-and if the audience isn’t tuning in to cable like they used to, then maybe they should try reaching out to them on the Internet they’ve been flocking to in place of it. It’s little wonder why Online Streaming is booming these days while others fail to adapt.

    17. Lord-Dreamerz

      Lord-Dreamerz

The reason the 2011 series got canned is a combo of reasons. CN didn't like how much the show cost to make and the toys were not selling great... So CN decided to replace it with a cheap knockoff even tho a lot of season 2's story was already written out. And that cheap knowoff was... you guessed it! "Legends of Chima" ...which did even worse! HAha!

This is a really poor understanding of what Nix said. I don't like how 2011 was treated by CN and WB, but this isn't actually considering why 2011 was made the way it was and the climate it was made in before the network changed direction. Personally, I don't think CN gave the show a proper chance or timeslot, and if it somehow made it to revived Toonami when it relaunched I think it would have fared much, much better, but unfortunately that wasn't really in the cards either (Toonami was still dead in 2011).

You didn't miss much. It wasn't really any good. Again it was just a cheap copycat kiddy version of Thunder Cats.

I do think it's important to note that Young Justice is coming back with a debut on DC's digital service.

If there's any hope for more animated action shows coming out, I'll bet on them coming through streaming services like Netflix.  The audience really doesn't seem to be there for cable television at the moment.

But why is Butch considering working at CN now when he likely knows that any counter-efforts on their practices will be futile in the end???
