  1. Man, I wish Nintendo would just drop those final Smash characters and be done with it, I'm sick of that leak discussion

I'm expected to go underground from anything Smash from now on. At least this November is expected to be packed for, so I have little time for worry.

I'm in the same boat. We're only a few months away and they've been quiet all October for whatever reason.

...Why weren't the Castlevania reps introduced during this month? Its Halloween and all..

If this leak is true, it could honestly be likely that Nintendo is simply unprepared to show anything atm. Each new character seems to have a whole cgi showing to go along with them and it's very possible that a fair amount of them aren't 100% yet depending on when Nintendo had that last Smash direct planned for. Like, what are they going to do, just announce the characters now and undercut the productions they probably already commissioned out?

Nah, I don't see them going off a schedule due to this... Though, they would have everything to gain if this leak isn't real and they just drop a character that wasn't in it out of no where. Even if some of the characters in the leak are real, just that one that isn't would send the web a blaze.

I still think saving this amount of characters with this amount of hype behind them for a month before release when it gets more likely with every second that something will be leaked due to more and more people getting their hands on marketing material one way or another is incredibly insane and my main reason why I honestly don't buy in this leak, as much work it would've been for the "leaker"

Also, do you really think they're finishing CGI cutscenes so close to them actually showing them? I'm know expert, but that seems just odd to me, honestly. I really can't see them not being done with basically anything about the game except minor bugfixing at most at this point. Weren't the cinematics also included in the Wii U game, anyway? I mean, you could patch them in later, but still...

Remember how Sakurai cut Adventure Mode in Smash for because people could see all of Subspace's cutscenes online without getting the game? Perhaps he should cut reveals altogether if people keep leaking them. Let's just have the whole roster reveal at the same time so there'd be no expectations to reach, because Hype is a delusion.

Also, just to be clear, I'm not demanding them to push forward their marketing because of a potential leak, I'm wondering in general what the hold up with the final blowout is.

@ThigoblinEh, from my experience non-commercial (so basically promotional animation who's main purpose is to sell something online in this case) can often be worked up until hours before release. It's incredibly possible that Nintendo just has to approve the base animation and cuts at a relatively early date while most of the effects and final touches are done afterwards. I mean keep in mind, it definitely isn't uncommon for gametrailers to include cgi trailers in them that aren't even done (see that Sonic Colors gameplay trailer where we first heard Reach for the Stars). These features aren't really vital to the game which is why Nintendo could very easily just include them in a day 1 patch if need be.

Also, is it even confirmed that the game is gold yet? I mean I know cartridges need more time in the oven to get out there but I wouldn't be surprised if the actual game itself is still getting the finishing touches applied before that physical edition cut-off.

Even if the animations are in their final final stages, they still wouldn't be done yet so that could be what's keeping them from saying anything atm.

I mean, I knew it was the case with stuff like Mania Adventures that barely got pushed out the door, but with a relatively small scale 2D animation, that seemed more possible as with a hugely detailed CGI trailer, but again, I'm no expert, and the way you put it seems to make sense, though I still don't know why Nintendo would cut the dates THAT close (the creators of the CGI had to have a deadline, right?)

And nah, the game isn't confirmed to be gold yet.

I dunno, the weird compressed marketing cycle of this Smash just throws me for a loop, man, though I guess Shulk also was revealed a mere month before release, though that was only one character and not several.

(Also Shulk was leaked like two weeks before through the ESRB Leak, you would think Nintendo would learn from that stuff and push out their trailers earlier to avoid that from happening again but eeeh)

You’d think man... I think it’s simply just another sign of Nintendo not getting how the internet works for the most part. They want to build up as much hype and speculation as possible going into release which is great... but they still place their bets on a game as big as this staying leak free which is... naive to put it mildly.

I wonder how much say Sakurai has in this, because he stated how much he hates leaks and if the one going around is really true, that must be even more devastating than probably most Smash leaks before.

And for me it's frustrating too, because, again, assuming this is real, there were some nice surprises in there that are now spoiled and that would suck. And the thing is... it just feels like it could've been avoided. Again, I don't know the ins and outs of game development, but cutting CGI Trailers and marketing this close...I dunno, it almost asks for leaks, I feel, and it's annoying. If everything leaked say, around E3 time, because some member deep inside Nintendo's clockwork threw a fit, sure, that's also a shitty incident, but I can't really blame Nintendo for not revealing every single character that soon, but at this point, so close to release, I just wonder "Why?", because it seemed so easily avoidable with just... talking about it earlier. Because it's not like people are gonna forget about Smash within a month, right? But I dunno, again, that's just an outsiders perspective without the know-how of someone inside the industry, so eh.

What stings the most though, is that the leak, fake or not, totally poisened speculation because everyone is so hard at each other's throats, even more so than usual (which, at times was already annoying enough), with an insane amount of toxicity that made everything unbearable. The whole situation just sucks, no matter what outcome.

      Meeeeh.
