...I can't believe it took me decades until literally just now to find out how and why Shadow actually died in SA2... and it's literally explained in the game FFS lol. @2:25 - @:31
Granted, not only does the game really encourage you to beat the Biolizard asap where you could easily miss this dialogue, counting over all the years from what I've heard from other people, how people never understood "Why Super Sonic didn't simply save Shadow and fly back to the ark", how Sonic heroes tried to justify his return, and how I interpreted Shadow's death scene, I legit thought the original intent was that Shadow crash landed onto earth and died upon impact there, and that the big sparkle before his disappearance was supposed to signify him re-entering earth from far away, NOT that the big sparkle meant him literally disintegrating for overexerting his super form for way too long. That's ALSO a new thing I've learned about the Super Forms, too. Everything's so much clearer now!
-
i mean he clearly didn't actually disintegrate considering they brought him back. to me sonic's line sounds like they were trying to write around a reference to death (even though the game does talk about death elsewhere) without being specific about the cause, and the flash was shadow de-transforming, representing his death because it would've been inappropriate to show the direct cause. there's a couple other lines talking about shadow struggling to maintain his super form, so the one about "disappearing" feels like a weird outlier.
-
Well, Shadow didn't disintegrate because Sonic Heroes simply retconned some things around to make the game be what it needed to be haha.
I mean Sonic literally says if he goes on for too long, he's going to disappear, not revert back to base. That shouldn't stop Super Sonic from saving Shadow if that was the intent of the death scene. And the in-game dialogue paints a picture of Shadow going way over the top to prove Maria his worth, and Sonic starts to worry about his mental state and power before what eventually happens by the end of the game where Sonic could only find one of Shadow's bracelets. I don't see how that line's an outlier when it fits within the rest of the context.
What I would like to find though is the japanese dialogue for this translated. That's been a total bitch for me to find lately. Trying to see if there's even more clarification there.

there are also lines where shadow says he can't change into his super form (which makes more sense as a mistranslation of not being able to maintain it than anything to do with disintegrating) and sonic telling him his super form, specifically, won't last. and the point of the death scene was for shadow to die (or at least to "die"), so sonic was never going to save him anyway. personally i'm not that moved by the idea that, technically, it should've been possible for sonic to save him; more and more i've come to feel that the dramatic effect of a scene is more important than perfectly adhering to physics or logic. and even if you need a logical reason for it i don't think it's hard to find one; they warp the ark, sonic goes with, shadow doesn't because his power's fading and he's losing control, shadow's already gone by the time sonic realizes.
QuoteAnd the in-game dialogue paints a picture of Shadow going way over the top to prove Maria his worth, and Sonic starts to worry about his mental state and power ...
that much fits just fine with the idea of shadow exhausting himself and de-transforming, though. and the bracelet's always been a little weird but i don't think the implication that sonic flew around space offscreen and found it or something makes it work any better.
-
Yea, I've known about that "Can't change back into his super form" mistranslation haha. That line in particular was why I wanted to make sure the "extraneous Super form usage = disappearing" dialogue also held true in Japanese, which I would assume so.
But I honestly don't get your take on this though and why you feel this needs to be left for interpretation when the game is telling you how everything went down. I don't see the difference in the game telling you that you will lose your super form beforehand while also it telling you you will disappear from Super form overuse. Sonic clearly made the distinction of Shadow risking disintegration because he's over exerting his form way longer than it should be possible. Every other instances, it was about reverting back to base because of low ring energy. You can hear it in Shadow's voice how tired he is compared to Sonic.
Regarding the 2nd paragraph, how does it not make sense to you? If Shadow simply went back to base, then how would Sonic only find his bracelet? It would obviously still be on Shadow's person. Shadow disintegrating makes the whole ordeal make way more sense, because it shows that Sonic did look for Shadow but was nowhere to be found but his bracelet because Sonic himself warned him about disintegrating. I mean that seems pretty cut and dry to me.

it's a single awkwardly worded line in a series that's no stranger to questionable translation referring to something that's never been so much as hinted at either before or since, and assuming it to be true doesn't really add or clarify anything over other interpretations.

the bracelet got warped with sonic and the ark but the rest of him didn't? maybe? it's awkward, but again i chalk it up to being more symbolic than literal. "he didn't make it, here's the proof". how specifically sonic got his hands on it isn't the point. and you've gotta assume things we're never actually shown either way, so.

Why is it an outlier to you is what I don't get, though. They have to create lore somewhere for us to understand what is happening to these characters, right? Well that last boss fight and the dialogue between everyone was exactly where we learned that you can die from super form over usage. Makes sense since the last story is usually the only time you even get to see Super Forms, let alone learn more lore about them. This is the same game that created Chaos Control, fake emeralds, and G.U,N.. I really don't understand this "Assuming to be true" stance tbh. It's literally said in game. What more do you want (other than the Japanese translation lol)? I provided the evidence where you're just saying "we should just leave it to interpretation"...? That doesn't make sense.
On the 2nd paragraph, Well, that to me sounds like you're implementing your own head canon than what the game is actually explaining. It literally tells you in game why Sonic couldn't find Shadow. Sonic said himself that he would disappear. What is so hard about that? Of course Shadow would be the only one to disappear and not his "clothes" because his clothes aren't the ones using chaos energy. Shadow himself is going super, so he disappears while his bracelet and shoes (unless they're built onto him) get left behind.

Quick: How do you put up gifs on this site again? My bad, It's been a while for me on here

After finally selling some of my old games, I can't believe Knack1 somehow has more value than Gears of War Ultimate Edition.... I don't understand the trade system at all.
-
(checks it out in my own region) Yeah, you're right. You get more for Knack than Gears of War: UE.
Ah... I think I might know why and this is a hunch. It's not rare, obscure Japanese made game and its not a Nintendo game but family focused games tend to be worth more. So stuff like Lego games, Crash and Spyro, Sonic, Marvel superhero games and even some racing games are worth more to a store even if there are plenty of copies when compared to your Uncharteds, Assassin Creeds or anything that gets a M rating where there's plenty of copies but not as much demand past its first few years so they drop like a rock. There are exceptions of course such as when a Call of Duty might rise in price if it is on Xbox One backwards compatibility, most Rockstar games usually have some value and even though kids play on them, soccer games apart from the latest ones have very little value.
At least its not the 360 ones where the Gears of War series are worth as much as a soccer game.

That's interesting to note @Mr Loopone I'd just figured it being, you know, a disaster and all, and it being a launch title would play a huger role in its value compared to the other games I had. It was pretty much the $2 equivalent to my Sunset Overdrive, Watch Dogs and Gears of War combined haha.
Guess you always can count on Knack

Just came back from watching Aquaman. I gotta say, that's one visually pleasing movie. beautiful scenery, liked the characters, action and the quick charm moments as well.
Pretty dope, DC, pretty dope

Wow...watching the newest Jon Tron episode... I can't believe Soulja Boy of all people entered the gaming console market. You can't make this shit up.
-
Can you imagine an actual full grown man trying to turn into a ball to spin dash charge?
Something tells me each scene dealing with that in this upcoming movie is going to be hilarious
-
Man... this Sonic movie-to-be is legit giving me a full on headache... The fact these directors say it's their "clear vision" with full on conviction is what kills me the most.

So I'm over here trying to make some sense with Sonic Forces's story. In Shadow's story, some people question how Sunset Heights was even destroyed before Eggman took over yet. Unless I'm missing something here, I think what the actual cause here was that Infinite took control over Omega and made him destroy the city, since there was a line by Omega saying that he was in the process of "exterminating" and there was nothing to report, despite just being a simple recon mission for Team Dark, implying that Infinite wanted to make it so Omega had everything under control.
Sunset Heights just looks stupid being destroyed beforehand because, yea... they're just reusing the same level assets with hardly anything changed... even with the bridges collapsing you see miles away that Omega has no business getting too. All they did was scratch off the Death Egg Robots and civilians fighting back in the background in Ep: Shadow.
I'm still very confused after the fake Green Hill Zone level and the passage of time, though. The game says that "On a certain day in Green Hill, Eggman's army launches a savage attack." At the point, Shadow still questions if he's talking to the real Rouge, and she says not to worry about taking Eggman's plan seriously and to not go with the others since Sonic's there already, kinda implying that Shadow is still under Infinite's influence, but then mere seconds later Rouge tells him that he needs to go to Green Hill Zone quickly, even though it shows that Eggman and Infinite is at Sunset Heights immediately after.
I'm not 100% sure, but maybe that's why Shadow isn't seen for months on end? Because he's still being mind fucked in fake Green Hill Zone and it took him months to finally snap out of it?
Finally, I think Omega never was "destroyed" in a sense, but was actually stuck in virtual reality like Shadow was, which would explain why Tails couldn't fix him. In Ep: Shadow, Omega comments how when encountering Infinite, he suddenly couldn't register is location. By the end of the game, the Phantom Ruby was severally weakened thanks to the Death Egg being destroyed, which was giving the ruby it's power. Since the power of the ruby drained, Infinite's grasp on Omega slipped away, which led to him finding his main target again.
I might be giving the game too much credit though, lol.

Hmm...are there any scans for the Sonic Mania booklet manual? I know there's already an official pdf of a Sonic Mania manual, but I remember there being a lot more concept art and zone descriptions in the actual booklet people got at some event. I can't seem to find that version anywhere.

It's really been around half a decade since I've registered, yet I still can't even reply in Neogaf. What exactly does it take to get accepted in that place?
-
Man, Mania's bosses are so fun. They're very out of the box and you actually have to use your head to beat them. Although at least 2 of them so far i did feel was a little nonsensical and seem to have won by luck.

Oh my lord do they make you put in work for these Chaos Emeralds... so frustratingly satisfying

Sooo...is Windows 10 supposed to be the worst human invention ever?
-
-
Considering that it restarts my computer my force for an update, especially during times when I'm working on long projects.
So yes, yes it is.

See, I couldn't even reply to these in a timely manner because of this thing, haha. (Currently my Ram is skyrocketing to the moon for just full screening a Youtube video and blue screening me the minute I look at my pc funny)
I've heard that Windows 10 is significantly worse for laptops, which is why I'm thinking i'm having so much trouble. Trouble like my mouse pad disabling from time to time, loosing my desktop background, frequent updates without consent (where would go to disable that, Indigo Rush?), crashing, etc.
Ugh....At least my previous pc had an excuse to be monstrosity, because it was an Acer product (unless there's something about Lenovos I don't know about).... I wish there was a simple solution to all of this.
