Okay, seriously, I know you're joking but anyone caught even suggesting violent actions being done to Ken Penders from this point onward will immediately get a strike.  Ken Penders is without a doubt a huge menace to the Archie comics, but we don't appreciate our members making light of his physical well-being.  It's dirty, hostile, and just not funny.  So please, let's not do that again.

Mario and Pokemon have more than enough reps.

I originally cared for Mewtwo to make a return, but if we have both Lucario and Greninja (which share a similar color scheme and body shape, oddly enough), as well as Charizard, Pikachu and the obvious-yet-unannounced Jigglypuff, then all that plus Mewtwo would be six reps, which is way more than necessary.

    And as for Mario's reps..

We have him, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Rosalina, DK, Diddy, and Wario. That's nine reps. And yes, while Donkey Kong has had the Country series as well as various spinoffs, and Wario's had WarioWare and Wario Land, they're still canonically in the Mario universe. They share some mythos, they have similar gameplay qualities, heck they even make direct references to each other and share enemies / objects at times. And I'm stating that all as if them appearing in Mario's spinoff titles (Party, Kart, the sports games, etc.) didn't already make this clear.

I don't care if Mewtwo would've been good, Waluigi would've been god-tier or whatever. I personally don't want to see any more slots blown on Mario or Pokemon whenever they take up massive chunks of the roster already.

I know it has a different art style from the rest of the games, but I really hope they at least TRY to bring over one or two characters from Wind Waker, in a more realistic art style, to be playable.

    THIS GLITCH IS STILL THERE.
    IT'S STILL FUCKING THERE

    WHAT THE FUCK SEGA

What's with their customer support constantly bullshitting its answers? When I first played Sonic 4, I complained about huge lag on the iPhone 4. The lag was a result of the game using the iPhone 5 graphics options instead of the toned down iPod Touch 4 graphics that would have ran perfectly. SEGA told me that they would release a patch in a couple days. Several days later, they message back saying they won't fix it.

Now this. They claim that they're going to fix it AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. They even have the balls to end it with "Thank you for your patience and understanding." A couple days pass... nothing. A couple weeks pass... nothing. A couple months pass... nothing. Almost a year passes.. NOTHING. Completely unacceptable. I'm not even sure why Apple hasn't demanded SEGA to pull the app for selling a product that flat out does not work.

I'm actually a huge fan of the new Rainbow Road. Yes, it's by no means as elaborate as something like Mario Kart Wii or Mario Kart 7, and there's a lot of missed opportunities in terms of anti-gravity stuff... but that doesn't automatically make it a bad track. I find the more simple and streamlined approach works well and draws me back to playing on it more often, rather than groaning at the thought of having another 3 minutes of falling off edges and difficult level design. The theme of the track is excellent - I love how it's the MKTV space station and the Blooper spaceship is all kinds of brilliant - and the music is excellent, as with every piece of music in the game. And there is some depth to be exploited for those willing to seek it out... like that shortcut. You know the one I mean. Plus, it's still no walk in the park - get caught up in a load of racers or item carnage and you could quite easily go spinning off the edge to your doom.

Rainbow Road 64 is still probably the better Rainbow Road of the two in the game, but I don't think the new one deserves as much stick as it gets. It's still a good track - just not as crazily designed as people hyped it up to be. But I know I'm probably in the minority on that one.

Shadow and knuckles are interchangeable tbh, they don't change much, Blaze however, no just no. It is not explained in story, she just dissapears and (as evidenced by End of the World) presumably dies. Izukia has even had to go on record to retcon Blazes 06 origins in favour of her Rush one.

No a reboot does not have to be a major change, it is literally throwing away the old backstory for a new one, no matter how much it changes.

What it should have been potentially, was a solo Sonica game, but one that features some of the cast and makes them, oh I don't know, useful! The main complaint was usually about genre roulette or about how useless they were, not actually doing anything.

I so have to question just how sane Penders actually is, having sued SEGA and their business partners a few times (not just once!) and having tried to sue them in the past, he actually thinks that they will want to have ANYTHING to do with him?

How can he seriously think that SEGA would come crawling back to ask him to write for the movie? The man must be delusioned! Besides they want an action movie, not a bloody soap opera omnibus!

For the bank, I think the banker supposedly draws something on Link to indicate his balance. He checks that and sees how much Link's balance is ever time. So in reality, Link is actually getting other people's money after time-traveling.

Recently, two of our long-time staff members, Sean and Pelly, resigned from their mod activities. We here at the SSMB Staff are forever grateful for the influence they have had on these boards during the years and will miss them dearly. We would like to take this opportunity extend our heartfelt thanks to them for their years of service.

With the stride that Sonic Boom is hitting and the heated discussions on the boards the Staff has done some thorough discussing, and we decided to recruit some active and varied new blood to fill the void. These are familiar names you might know, and we're very excited to bring them on board.

Many of our members might have had a keen eye already to the details, but without further ado, please welcome SuperLink, Azukara and Ogilvie to the moderator team!

    Lets see now...

$20 million dollars on the Wii U game budget

Unknown sum but gotta be in the several million for the 3DS budget.

Unknown sum but gotta be in the several million for the TV show.

    Unknown sum for the toyline.

Gee I wonder why it has to sell well?

It has to sell well because this is something they'll want to continue for several years, it's not like past Sonic titles where they've been disposable, this HAS to do well because the idea is that it'll continue for years to come, and if it doesn't sell well, you can be there will be redundancies and downsizing at SOA, and before you think 'that won't happen' we'll just seen it happen at SOE!

Now before anyone thinks I'm prophesying Sega's downfall here... nope, SOJ is doing too well for that to happen. But the western arm of it is very frail right now, and it's obvious to anyone, "3 franchises only, one is a movie license, the other takes advantage of the most popular sport in Europe. Oh wait, technically 4th, Miku, which is not as popular as Sega and her fans think it is when it comes to games.

Give it a toggle feature on the main character select screen so when you go online they do not have to rearrange the character screen, just remove the toggle feature

"Fact is" Smash is planned alongside other games to promote them. SSB4 started development ~2 years ago, and Sakurai has been privy to all sorts of information, not just the entire roster of Pokémon XY but information on Sonic Lost World (evidenced by the completed Windy Hill stage), long before they came out. Dixie Kong could easily have been planned to promote Tropical Freeze if that were the case, because Sakurai quite obviously knows about a lot of things that no one outside Nintendo knew a thing about 2 years ago.

"Fact is" Smash doesn't /always/ expand that much and people who expected a big expansion from Melee to Brawl well.. 90% of people expected 40-45 characters in Brawl, and they got 35/38. Most people were extremely disappointed, even angry at Sakurai, because their expectations for how "easy" they, the general public with no development experience, thought fighting game development was, was far greater than reality.

Limitations are not "artificial", it's called keeping your expectations in check and realising that game development is not a magic spell where you say "ok this will happen" and then magically it happens. You need time, and money, so much time and money. Those limitations are the reality Sakurai faces. Sakurai can plan out an idea of what he wants to do with the roster before development, and like we saw with Brawl many of those planned characters may not make it in at all in the end (Mewtwo and others), some characters might have just barely made it in before launch (Lucario). Saying they have an idea for a roster planned out before development doesn't mean they'll put them all in, it means they've narrowed down the creative process for focused development rather than having ideas thrown at them in the middle of development.

The reason I don't always listen to your arguments is because you are thinking in terms of "if Sakurai wrote this down on a piece of paper and said he would like to do it it'd definitely happen" and not in terms of "Sakurai will only do what he can do with his time and money. There is no such thing as an "artificial limitation" on something by which the final product is largely dictated by various "limitations". System power, cartridge size, time, money, censorship, these are all very real limitations that game developers have to deal with on a daily basis..

You also keep saying Nintendo are far better with planning than other companies, but what? Melee was developed in a hurry in a ~year with tons of cut content, Brawl was delayed and even then had a fair few cut characters. Smash Bros. absolutely does not have a history rich with 100% accurate long-term planning. We won't know if this time is different until the game is out.

You literally have no idea what you're talking about. You have no idea how much work goes into creating fighting game characters and how expensive they are.

That's how much work and money needs to go into one already partially finished character from an indie game (Skullgirls, their Indiegogo campaign was a fascinating time for everyone who thought they knew how cheap game development was). That's the fraction of the price and work each Smash character might take in comparison. These figures are corroborated by many developers and many developers have also remarked on how these figures are cheaper than the kind of work they're used to.

It's true that we don't know how big the roster is going to be, we have no idea, but I'm saying keep your expectations in check. When Brawl came out and its roster size was revealed, a ridiculous amount of people were angry and acted self-entitled and pretended they understood game development better than Sakurai. Nah.

The point I'm trying to make here is that you don't seem to appreciate how much work goes into a game when it's being made (supposedly) from scratch, especially since you said characters are smaller than stages or modes. Brawl was made in ~2 years, SSB4 is two games across two systems, one of which is far more expensive to develop for that the Wii was. Sakurai isn't such a magical man that he can pull 15 extra characters out of thin air in an extra half a year. Yeah, 50 characters is possible, but no, I don't think it's likely unless the team working on SSB4 is considerably bigger than Brawl's was (and Brawl had collaborators from many other development teams), and I think I've made it perfectly clear why multiple times.

That may be true, but expecting over 50 is quite frankly silly. The 3DS cartridges may be bigger than a GC minidisk but dont forget that this iteration of Smash also has so much more than Melee, Smash Run, classic smash, probably some sort of adventure mode, not to mention all the online coding too.

To be fair, when they are emphasising the character numbers they usually accompany it with "in a Zelda title" so anything above like 3 would be large numbers for a Zelda title. Honestly I'd be happy with the 9 we have teased already

I'd have to agree with Gabz here. We're shit-posting in this thread when a developer routinely checks by and posts? How fucking immature. Criticize the game all you want but do it in a mature, acceptable way.

We have the privilege of a developer to come by and comment with us. Let's NOT lose this privilege for the sake of being "funny".

Props to the people both criticizing and praising the game in a mature manner.
