    Day 6: Favorite level

Hmm, well like Sean I want to pick the WHOLE of Okami, that game is just brilliant!

However as Sean pretty much nailed it and because I wanna be a bit different im going to go with

Rainbow Road (Yeah I know i'm crazy!)
I really love the Rainbow Road levels from Mario Kart. They are always challenging, using all the skills you have (hopefully) learnt doing the first 3 cups, plus the Music and aesthetics are just breathtaking!

My two favorite in particular are Rainbow Road DS and Rainbow Road Wii

(Do I get bonus points for having a Waluigi Picture?)

    Rainbow Road DS
This was, from what I can remember, my first time playing a rainbow road track ever. I never owned DD for myself, even though I played it at my friends quite often. It really was breathtaking, full of corkscrews and loops it really felt like the end of the road (pun intended). It left a really big impression on me, of course it helped I was good at drifting which massively helps in going round the course, at speed, successfully.

    Rainbow Road Wii
This was a whole new experience in itself, based heavily off of Mario Galaxy, the music is astounding and the whole track is a spectavcle, especially that first huge drop! drifting deifnately helps!

I managed to narrow this question down to one game, but I'm not able to pick just one.

    First, Sei'an City from Okami:

The first half of Ryoshima Plains is home to Sei'an City, a part that I always look forward to when I replay Okami; it's the most populated area and there's lots to do. It's essentially the central hub for the game's second story arc and the tasks you have to accomplish do not disappoint, from having to rescue the emperor in miniscule form to the long journey to infiltrate Queen Himiko's palace - making a quick stop at an abandoned pirate ship on the seafloor just outside of the city's walls while you're at it. Not to mention it features some of the most shocking swerves in the storyline, paving the way to one of the best climatic boss fights in recent memory.

I love city levels in games in which you could have tons of fun just simply walking around taking everything in. Sei'an is one of those levels for me.

Kusa Village is fucking beautiful - I have a huge weakness for villages built on mountainsides in stories. Like most of Okami's areas, this is one I enjoy walking around at my own leisure before rushing to my next objective. This is a bit of a weird choice as the Canine Warriors mission does not really stick out to me as a favorite, but the other major thing to do here involves a highly memorable dungeon in the form of a massive windmill you must climb. Reaching the top is only one of many of the game's breathtaking moments.

Day 28: most wanted spin off's

Hmm, for this one I am going to have to say our purple fiery feline, Blaze.

this may be based on a slight bias, but there is so much about her and her world we do not yet know, if its as vast as Sonic's then the islands visited in Rush Adventure would only be but a fraction of the landmass. Id love to see her doing her royal duties and protect the Sol Emeralds from a threat, new or maybe see a semblance of a longtime rival. We could get to see more of Marine and how Blaze interacts with her and learn more about mystical objects in her universe like the Jeweled Scepter. She has gameplay already very similar to Sonic's so I can imagine it wouldnt be too different.

Another idea I thought of that I quite liked was a spinoff based around Tails. He hears about one of Eggmans plan and he goes to find sonic, the first level or two are about Tails trying to find Sonic and telling him about the plan. Then they work together to try and stop the plan. Bosses would work differently with Sonic being his usual self but Eggman got smarter and spent a nit more time on his robots, not putting great big "fuck me" lights on it. Tails has to jump onto the robot and dismantle a panel or the armour or something so Sonic can take it out. Something like that...but executed in a better way than I can explain!

    Day 3:

Hmm, well my one of my most favorite covers I used in yesterdays answer, so i'll use something different for today

although not as good as the Japanese version, i really like the European version of the cover too. The artstyle I really find pleasing to look at and I really like the background aswell with Fi and the gate of time. Its also interesting how the Hyrule crest is covered in vines and moss.

I also really like this cover

I really love how busy and bustling this cover is, not to mention how colourful it is! I really love just how happy this cover makes you feel. plus not to mention all of the hidden bits and pieces.

Day 24: Favorite Sonic non smash and Wreck It Ralph Cameo.

Hmm, i can't actually remember all that many cameos from our little blue Hedgehog, most of my memorable ones are the Simpsons Episode when Bart steals the Videogame, the Shenmue Capsule toys and the Billy Hatcher SEGA eggs!

However my favorite is one I am surprised no one else in the UK has mentioned!

The Sonic the Hedgehog Balloon that appeared multiple times at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta (and im sure other places too)

This was a really big event and still is. I used to go every year with my family when I lived down there. It goes on for four days in August with mass balloon lift off's early and at 6pm every day and on the opening and third day there is a "night glow" where the balloons light up to music. each day there is live music from pretty big acts as well as hundreds of stalls and attractions in the area. This was a really big marketing move from SEGA, its a shame the balloon had to be grounded due to a very large hole appearing in one of the ears.

    Day 22: Favorite Zone/Level Tropes

    In no particular order:

    Sky Zones
I love these zones, they can differ so vastly in both secondary theme and in the gimmicks present. We have things like Eggman sky fortresses, ruins in the sky, or fighting badniks on the tornado itself!

But the reason this is one of my favorite tropes?
    This zone right here

    City Zones
This trope, although mostly very similar has some levels that are very different and interesting. Plus the added bonus of having Sonic zooming at breakneck speeds through a bustling city. Some notable examples are:

Rooftop Run (again, one of my favorite levels)

Taking place in the middle of Spagonia, this city is much less modern and more traditional and old fashioned. not only does it look amazing but it provides a change from the normal skyscrapers and open roads Sonic usually runs along,

    Crisis City
This is a great level, purely for asthetic purposes, I love the idea of a ruined, post apocalyptic city for Sonic to run through, maybe something ruined by Eggman. It feels so epic to run through and survive to the end of the level

    City Escape
Sure, this one is your normal city level, but this is arguably one of the best and most memorable levels in Sonic history, it made a change from Speed Highway (which is also amazing) by taking place in the daytime. The start the level, streetboarding down the streets is really exhilarating and the end, it takes you by surprise the first time you play it.

    Eggman Bases
Again this one is because of the sheer amount of designs there have been over the years, there has been ground based factories, flying fortresses, flying fleets of ships, actual companies, underwater bases, bases carved out of ancient architecture, heck even space stations! Not to mention the grand doctor even made himself an Eggmanland that perfectly personified his personality. Some notable ones are the Death Egg, for being being sheer awe inspiring due to its size. Egg fleet because the intimidating nature of the ships and the fun level design. Flying Battery for the awesome music and great gimmicks, plus the escape at the end and also Eggmanland for being the good doctors dream personified, hard as nails, wacky but deadly and just down right awesome

I still don't really get the difference between announcing something in a conference or not.

"Did you hear, the Wii U is having a proper overhaul/re-launch, they announced it in this online video."  "Oh cool."

"Did you hear, the Wii U is having a proper overhaul/re-launch, they announced it with a person on a stage with big TV screens".  "GRAB MY WALLET."

Yeah, I appreciate the probable complexities behind it.  Here in the UK pretty much every Nintendo event with playable demos is in a GAME in London and London only.

So it's been three days now, and it's becoming increasingly clear that my current ill state isn't going away anytime soon, which is annoying. As such, because I really don't want to go down the road of repeatedly making doomed promises every night, I've decided that I'm going to wait until the next Friday and try to pick things back up from there. Reason being that not only should I hopefully be much better by then, but also, I figured that because this whole unfortunate turn of events started on a Friday, the tidiest response for me would be to end it - and continue the final stretch - on a Friday.

I apologise once again for this mess, but this ship will reach it's destination (or something like that). Thank you for listening, and thank you very much for your understanding.

    Day 19:

    Whew I almost missed today!

Hmm, mine would have to be when my daughter beat the Egg Hornet. I had gone to get a jumper, something which took quite a while considering I couldn't find one. I had paused the game.

I come back 3 minutes or so later to see my 1 year old daughter with the controller and the results screen up. Sure it was a fluke (probably) but I just laughed so hard! And then she started laughing more and more. I was shocked and impressed, but it was still very funny at the time!

Okay, you two, that's more than enough. Please stop taking jabs and throwing snarky remarks at one another and discuss Sonic '06 in a decent manner and nothing else. And DBZHedgy, don't tell anyone what to do as that isn't your job around here, especially since you have continuously have caused problems yourself.

I believe the both of you have been talked to more than enough times for the way you have been acting in this thread and others here. That said, if either one of you do this sort of thing again do expect some sort of disciplinary action as the Staff is sick and tired of talking to you telling you both how to conduct yourselves so please stop it.

I really hate to do this... but I'm doing it. I'm not going to be misinterpreted and take it lying down.

DBZHedgy, because I know you're already going to do it, please don't reply to this and make us play here-we-go-round-the-mulbery-bush for God knows how long again. I'm sick of it and so is literally everyone else.

Yes, it kind of does matter. The fact that it was a joke matters a lot, actually. It cannot be "wrong", because it was never meant to be "right" in the first place. It's a silly thing I made up in the car one night.

Oh gee, well thanks for '06 explaining that to us clearly in that one part where...

    ...uh... g-give me a sec...

...hm. I can't see anything in '06 that tells us "this is a different Blaze" and not "this is Blaze but we've changed her backstory". Her character isn't different, her design isn't different, her powers and abilities aren't different... only her origin.

And if you want to use the "lol reboot" arguement... consider this: literally no-one else in the game is rebooted (awful designs and shitty characterisation aside) as much as Blaze is. Hell, Shadow's heavily implied to have developed on from the end of his own game.

Also, Generations uses '06, making it canon in some form or another, while also saying everything else is canon too. So hey, if it's canon alongside everything else, and if literally every other character was never rebooted in that game, I guess it's not actually a reboot, huh?

I don't think you know my pain. Sonic the Hedgehog has kept me enchanted for well around 20 years, and one of the most important aspects to this dynamic relationship I've held to this series is the various music tracks. There are many kinds of music genres that this franchise has used... rock, techno, jazz, hip hop, the list goes on. Nearly every soundtrack is filled with music tracks that are memorable, strong and catchy.

Listen, I can't put this any more clearly than I'm about to now - picking my favorite level music tracks is like picking your favorite child. It's as if I'm deciding which baby will be sacrificed to the volcano gods. You couldn't think of a more difficult moral question to pose, something like this, to me, is just... it's just beyond my ability to comprehend.

I've spent hours. Hours compiling my ten favorite games, and then making the heart-breaking decision of looking at each unique track, scrutinizing them to the greatest possible detail to see which one was most pleasing to me. I'm an objective man... SSMB, you're asking me to be subjective with one of the most cherished aspects of this franchise. I can't take this list lightly. My only way to retain my moral sanity is to maintain a list of honorable mentions so long that it nearly doubles my list.

    Doubles it.

I have 75 music tracks to list and comment on, and I'm not going to be lazy about it. I can't be lazy. This question is far too important for me to be lazy about. I've had to look deeply into myself and consider...

...what music... what... how... how can any of it be better than another? How can I choose one over the other? Yes, I understand, there are some tracks that objectively are not up to snuff (hello there, Chronicles), but among my favorites... I thought it would be beyond me.

    But it's not.

I have defeated this question. I don't go down so easily.

SSMB, brace your ears, wet your eyes and ready your popcorn. We're running the gamut. That's right, even considering that I have picked a top ten favorite games, I've taken it upon myself to pick one song per game... and that's almost all games, as honorable mentions. And beyond that, within each of my top ten games, one extra honorable mention.

    IT IS TIME

Zone 23: Favorite Level Music Tracks

Let's take it game by game, shall we? By year of release, by level order. I won't be organizing them by fondness... it's just too hard for me. Also, I will not be including games that contain mostly remixes, such as the All Stars Racing series and Generations. They're fantastic games, and the remixes they have are stellar ear-pleasers, but they are remixes, and I want to avoid any overlapping (though in the case for Sonic Adventure, there may be some 3D Blast overlap).

Otherwise, Generations and All Stars Racing would have made the Top 10 list over one or two of these entries, but eh, you gotta work with the cards your dealt.

Also, these lists will be condensed into spoilers to prevent from bloating this post. Each entry will contain a link to the song on YouTube. So now... alright! On to the list!

    Game 1: Sonic the Hedgehog

Game 2: Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Game 3: Sonic the Hedgehog CD

Game 4: Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles

    Game 5: Sonic Adventure

    Game 6: Sonic Adventure 2

    Game 7: Sonic Advance 2

    Game 8: Sonic Heroes

    Game 9: Sonic Unleashed

    Game 10: Sonic Colors

Pheewww!! That's a lot of Sonic music... 50 tracks, in fact. But are we done?

Oh, heck no. Because we have...

    Even MORE Honorable Mentions

I just couldn't resist... there's so many wonderful music tracks in the series, I had to add more. I just had too. But I capped it at one song per game I chose to represent. Now... these aren't from my favorite games, but I just needed to give some of these songs their just dues.

    And without further ado...

    OKAY.
    DONE.

    Day 23

Curse you Crusher, your not Eggman...your MUCH worse!! D:

ok so in NO particular order:

    Sonic & Knuckles

    1) Flying Battery Zone
The music of this zone really pumps you up and fits with the speed of the level itself, being Eggman's flying base of operations it has a slight mechanical tone to it aswell. The tune and the melody fit really well despite contrasting, thats what makes it so good.

    2) Lava Reef Zone
Mostly Act 1 for this one as Act 2 is quite different. The theme here really gives me the feeling of a buildup, plus it gives the slight feeling of isolation, which Sonic really is, down in the depths of the active volcano on Angel island, being attacked by Eggman's badniks  and having to survive the journey through the treacherous caverns that make up the zone. The music really puts this feeling across to the audience. The unerlaying repeating tune is really catchy and the much higher in tone melody that goes over it makes the level music really stand out.

    3) Eggman Boss Theme
I don't know if this counts because it isnt a level theme per se, but you do hear it at the end of each zone and it can go on for a while. Anyway I really love this theme in the game, everytime im playing the game muted I will purposefully grab headphones just so I can listen to the music when I fight good ol Robuttnick. The notes in the tune sound almost corrupted and deep, really fitting with Eggman and his capture of animals and corruption of nature. Its possibly my favorite boss theme of the entire classic triolgy.

    4) Sky Sanctuary
This is the bread and butter of this game musically, seriously. The theme, while upbeat and blood pumping seems to have an underlaying message of "hurry up!" and warning of danger. it fits absolutely perfectly with the setting and situation, Sonic, thousands of feet in the air, chasing down the Death Egg as it escapes into the upper atmosphere. You can feel the tension, it gets your heart pumping, you know something big is coming, you know this is it. considering the actual musical composition itself the melody is the star of the show here feeling very airy and light with all the high notes mesh really well with the slightly lower and more earthy tune in the background. this is possibly my favorite tune in the ENTIRE series, only one theme has challenged it for the top spot.

    Sonic Adventure

    1) Azure Blue World - Theme of Emerald Coast
This theme is great for the first level, fresh and bright, it helps cement the feeling of a brand new adventure. I can almost feel like im on a beach while im listening to this.

    2) The Air - Theme of Windy Valley
A lovely remix of Green Grove from 3D Blast Flickies Island (the best name dammit!). again this theme feels very airy and light wiht the electric guitar really fitting in well with the trumpet sounds at the beginning of the song. A really lovely tune.

    3) Sky Deck A GoGo! - Theme of Sky Deck
my favorite theme from Adventure by far. Sky Deck's theme really feels exciting and yet dangerous, the wailing guitars really make it feel like an Eggman base, but also adding the thrill of being up high in the air. He knows you are there and you are trying to reach him. the theme has an amazing riff that I just love too!

    4) Mechanical Resistance - Theme of Final Egg
This is the best theme for Final Egg, sure Crank the Heat up is good too, but Mechanical Resistance really fits with the dirty industrial look and feel of the place, it makes it feel like you are breaking in and sneaking around rather than going in all guns blazing.

    Sonic Unleashed

    1) Windmill Isle Day
Again like Emerald Coast this is a really nice theme to start of an adventure, I like how this theme sorta builds up, starting with just the beat then adding a tune and then the melody before introducing the violin aswell. its just a really happy and relaxing song to listen to.

    2) Dragon Road Day
I love the oriental theme of this tune and how they mixed oriental instruments with other instruments too. I can't really say music about why I love this song, i just do, its really good composition wise and the piano(?) that plays the majority of the melody mixes really well with the other instruments they use like violin and a xylophone.

    3) Rooftop Run Day
this song...man what is there I even need to say about this song? This is the ONLY song that matches Sky Sanctuary for me. The violin, the guitar, the melody, it all meshes 100% utterly and absolutely perfectly. I can find literally no faults in this piece of music, its upbeat, its exciting, it just makes you want to run!

    4) Crimson Carnival (Day for Wii version)
This theme I feel really encompasses Eggman, much like the level itself. using lots of electronic sounds and synths it honestly feels dangerous and life threatening but there are some parts of the tune that genuinely feel fun. I do think it sort of sounds like a fun fair or a carnival but does have a very evil sorta vibe to it.

    Sonic Generations

    1) Sky Sanctuary Zone Act 2
Not really much else to say about this, than what I said before. i love the updated electric guitars and think they fit really well.

    2) Stardust Speedway (JP/EU)
My favorite piece from Sonic CD remastered in HD...yes please! I really adore the redone version of this tune, the piano really fits for the melody while the moody organ mixes well and creates an atmosphere unlike any other. the sirens really do fit well, and the little vocals as well do not seem out of place. A genuine gem of a tune.

    3) City Escape Act 1
I really love this remixy style, which is strange as im not usually one for remixes, it gives the tune a certain appeal and does fit really well with the original tune. plus the mystic cave parts included really do fit incredibly well, also the instrumental section in the middle is a part i especially love

    4) Seaside Hill
I was quite a fan of the original version of this song and this version isnt changed that much, the main change is the inclusion of the Ocean Palace theme, making this more of a Seaside Palace theme (Ocean Hill?), but really shows how the two themes, although different, really do integrate well.

Phew. that took me long enough! time to play some ga....oh is that the time, time to go to bed then

No, it's definitely culture.  While it's true that heels exaggerate the shape of the legs in certain ways, it's hardly hardwired.  What people find sexy is very influenced with what they are exposed to believe is sexy.

They usually do an update before, i guess putting the Global event data onto the app, and then they will sorta activate it on their end someway down the line. The app will tell you when there is a global event on

Hmm, the way I see it the health system can go different ways

    1) It's a standard health meter that is replenished by rings, ala Tails and Eggman SA2 stages

    2) it's similar to other sonic games where when you are hit you only loose 5 or 10 rings or so

    3) is it poasible that the green bar represents either like a tag team power up? Or I think it could be the enerbeam energy bar?

    Day 18: Favorite unpopular VA's

Hmm, this one is actually really tough, im not sure on any that I actually prefer over other Voice Actors.
Saying that, Deem Bristow did a great Job of Eggman, he really put the menacing into the character and I love the deep almost growly tone he gives the Doctor, although not a comical as the great and powerful Mike Pollock i blame the stories he was in for that and I would love to have seen what he could have done towards Eggmans more childish comical side.

Also although im not sure if they are unpopular, but I hardly see much mention of them, but I really dig the VA's for the OVA. Sonic's voice takes a bit of getting used to after playing the games but he really has the snark down pat and the overconfidence that Sonic has. Tails, although sounding rather nasaly I actually quite like, it really does make him seem like a kid and I can see how it would be annoying for Sonic (like at the beginning of the OVA). Knuckles again I really like, not quite as deep as the games give him, but I quite like it, i can't realy put my finger on it, i'd love to see SEGA try a similar direction again, rather than going for the deep, rough, strongman kinda voice. Eggman  although I enjoyed I can't really remember all that well aside from certain lines I know the laugh was really fitting of the character though (before the iconic HOhohohohoh!) came along

FD variants of other stages just gives some much welcomed visual variety for those who play on FD way more than the rest. It's hardly a huge impact on resources in any way. I don't see what there is to particularly dislike.

    Day 10

Blaze dosent really have many designs, however I do really like the concept art where she has a cape.

As just an extra to her character I think its pretty neat and makes her look slightly more regal and "princessy" without giving her a big dress or whatever. I am also quite fond of the pink/purple cuffs she has in the winter olympic games...games.

But all in all Blaze's design is decent as it is, although an alternate one for Boom might be nice to see, I have seen a couple of good ones going off the idea she is some sort of nomad? (i think), seems to be a pretty common theme with Blaze and Boom concepts.

This actually made me throw up in my mouth a little.

SUMO only did that because SEGA told them to.

Stop pinning the blame on SUMO when they've done nothing but put love and fanservice into their games.
