I'd best explain the title, eh? I didn't think putting my real intentions up there would get many views, but now you are here, and allready reading this. We all have agreed that Shadow the Hedgehog was terrible game, and the only redeeming quality was some nice bits in the soundtrack. (thank goodness Sonic is always good with that.) Still, a game about nothing but the red and black hedgie continues to intrigue me. We don't want to see Shadow go on another solo adventure, because it was so painful the first time, but what about a little dip into his past?

The events on the space colony ark have expanded alot since Shadow was first introduced. There is the original Gerald, Maria, G.U.N. plot, and now we have the Black Arms and the Gizoid adding their own little bits in as well. Altogether I think it could make a fairly interesting story to experience.

Now obviously this is assuming: No guns, no unecesary swearing, levels that are designed to capitalize on Shadow's abilities, (no computer room) and of course one ending. What do you think? Would this game deserve to see the light of day?

Let's clear up the misconception: What Shadic is suggesting is NOT that Sonic gets a speedbreak/chaos control power up. He is suggesting he gets a boost powerup that is more of a side ability like the speed break was. The reason he said you would have to be careful with it is that turning would be incredibly difficult at that speed, and the levles would not be made like race tracks to accomodate it.

If the power up did in fact just place you in a latter part of the level that would be terrible. But that was not his idea.

Sigh.... humor just isn't Sonic's thing. It's better to focus on the action, and slip in the occasional 'robuttnik' for a side chuckle. Sure cracking jokes comes with the attitude, but that doesn't mean he has to be a comedian.

Chaos Walker got a reaction from JemiDove in Platforming VS Speed: My thoughts on it.
How wonderful. My first time back in months and it's to make a speed vs. platforming post. XD

Sonic started a platformer, as did most characters back then. Games needed something to set themselves apart from the Mario forumula, and Sonic had that in two things: Pinball mechanics, and a level of speed that was siginificantly faster than that of other characters at the time. In truth, the speed ability seems like it was something that was added to make the momentum centralized gameplay possible. The pinball machine needed no fippers because the ball had a pair of feet, and darn good ones at that.

At the moment there are two Sonics, something that it seems Sonic Team has decided to fully recognize. (hello generations) There is the platforming centralized Sonic that utilizes his speed and momentum as a way of augmenting his platforming abilities, and there is the thriller Sonic that capitalizes on speed and requires quick reactions to simulate the rush of going really effing fast. Both are extremely enjoyable, and have their own merrits in being included in the game. The platformer Sonic makes for long challenging games, where as the high speed Sonic gives instant gratification with a side of "wow." The two are best experienced together but it seems that there has yet to be a true marriage of the two styles, and to be honest I don't think there can be one in full. Right now they are doing the best they can by including both Styles in one game. Generations is doing it better than Colors though, as the platforming in Colors did not use pinball mechanics (not that it ruined the game or anything) .

In conclussion, Platformer Sonic makes a more solid game, but speedy Sonic draws in the crowd better, and feels pretty good when mixed in with the platforming. The problem is implementing both in the same disc, and hopefully even at the same time.

    Pr"Good Job Sonic and Sonic!"
    Sh"Why am I here?"
So"No, I'm the only Sonic! His name is Shadow."
Pr"Oh. Are you sure? All right then. Good job Shadow."
Sh"I don't understand, oh candy. Ok. Continue as you were."

So he took the Sonic and Shadow pic? I guess that might explain it.

Chaos Walker got a reaction from Smock in If you were the boss off Sonic Team and were told to reboot Sonic, what would you do?
I never thought the games needed one of these, since Sonic Team allready seems pretty good at ignoring past story tones and adding random new gameplay, but... sure. Why not?
    THE CAMERA
The game would be played almost exclusively in 3D, save a spot or two where it might seem appropriate. As you enter areas the camera would jump to a predetermined angle, and you cannot personaly adjust the camera at all. My thought there is that you won't need to adjust it because you are allready seeing everything you could possibly need to. This saves us from the screwy camera stuff from the adventures, and also allows objects to be 'hidden' by the camera angle by simply placing them behind things.
    LEVEL DESIGN
I would capitalize on using Sonic's speed not merely as a mode of traversing a plane, but also for exploration and opening paths. I would be bringing back things like breakaway walls, and I would be adding a whole plethora of curved surfaces, some even on the ceilings and walls, jutting out of places, and a few that launch you to other paths/ platforms. I also will be wanting objects that require Sonic to use his shape/ abilities to use. For example, a door that is held shut with a treadmill lock, or using his spindash to turn gears.
    NEED FOR SPEED
I also recognize the thrill of the gameplay style that Unleashed introduced, which unfortunately seems incompatible with the classic platforming forumula without dumbing it down alot. Instead, I would introduce areas where Sonic's control style changes in slight, much like was done in Sonic colors. Here the level design will focus on reaction times, and getting to the next check point before something gets you. These would be initiated by a 2-3 second cinematic, such as sonic watching as a piece of mountain break off and roll after him. During the cinematic players would be allerted on screen that play style is changeing in slight.
    CONTROLLS
Sonic will be moved with a stick, have a jump button, and a crouch button. Pressing the crouch while running will cause a spin attack, and doing it while standingrevs spindash. I will also be using the homing attack, but it won't be quite as god status as it is now. I want players to think more about how they attack, and the way to do this would be through enemy design. Examples include: Enemies with armour around their upper body that require a lower attack to hit, with rotating armour with an open side, with mutltiple body parts, only one of which is safe to touch. etc.
    CHARACTERS (ooooh snap)
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Blaze. All characters have one unique ability to set apart how they explore the levels. The end.

Looking over it... it's not much of a 'reboot.' More like a 'here's how I would do it' boot. XD

    Knuckles Quest for Nintendo 3DS

A sidescrolling adventure-platformer in the style of Metroid and Castlevania. Journey through all the familiar sights of Angel Island to restore the broken pieces of the Master Emerald! Collect new items to boost your latent climbing, digging, and gliding abilities. Do you have what it takes to defeat the newly revived Pachachamac*?!

Sorry, had that idea in my head for waaay too fucking long, and the Tails Adventure 2 comment reminded me of it.

*No, I'm not spellchecking that name.

Going with the topic at hand.

If I was the boss of Sonic Team and if I was told to make a reboot first thing I would do is slap the person who told me in the first place with Sonic Colors saying "here's your goddammed reboot" and explain why its a bad idea.

After all I am the boss.
