  1. Whilst not particularly good, I wouldn't call Rise of Lyric a terrible game. It's just unfortunate that any chance of it doing well was ruined when SEGA signed the three-game exclusivity deal with Nintendo (which was an absolute disaster) and as a result SEGA had to release RoL - a game built for PS4, PC & Xbox1 - on the Wii U-a system which RoL was not designed for. So, BigRedButton got completely screwed over because SEGA made a very bad business decision, and it didn't help that the Wii U was no where near as successful as the Wii & Switch. After RoL's failure that pretty much ended any chance of the Boom brand being successful (despite the cartoon lasting for two seasons).

Also the three-game exclusivity deal prevented the mobile remasters being released on consoles at that time. fak u SEGA

nah. even if you put aside the rushed/compromised production pace, RoL was still pretty terribly designed. development delays wouldn't had fixed the combat, level design, story, soundtrack, and hubworlds all being exceedingly rote and dull. it's a mediocre ps2 platformer with a sonic label slapped on top of it, and no amount of polish would had changed that much.

I think on a technical and development level Rise of Lyric suffered just as much as 06 did, it just had a stronger core. It's not a good game, certainly as fuck it's not good, but I find it being considered the all-time worst game to be a vast overstatement. It's actually lighter on the bullshit and more to-the-point than Shadow or Secret Rings.

I knew Nintendo was in on accelerating Sonic's destruction.

After their former rival left the console business, I guess they couldn't resist rubbing salt in the wounds.

Shadow and Secret Rings are making far more interesting design choices and thus have more value to me. ROL is just a worse version of many games that already exist

      shadow and the secret rings

Rol is just boring and generic on top of being a broken steaming pile. Is it the worst game ever? No. Does that mean it isn’t a terrible game? Certainly not, doesn’t need to be the worst to criticize or call shit

Trying to implement Sonic Boom into an already convoluted franchise was a bad idea right from the jump. RoL reinforced that greatly.

Rise of Lyric was a terrible game. It sticks out for all the wrong reasons and I only have one positive thing to say about it (character interaction). Otherwise everything else is either forgettable or a hot mess in short.
