  1. I played some of that Sonic World fangame and I'm absolutely astounded at how awful it actually was. I was expecting some loose controls and linear level design, but I got an exaggerated case study of everything wrong with the Sonic series between SA1 and Sonic 06.

      I agree with you 100%.

I remember I didn't like it much either.

It looks like I'll be dead by the time somebody finally makes a 3D Sonic Fangame that doesn't have slippery controls or a fucked sense of scale (They always make the environment too big).

Green Hill Paradise is no perfect peach by any means, but one makes the other look like Mario Galaxy in terms of polish, good grief

Just searched it on YouTube and the first result was an bugfix update for the new release...lol

      Looking at a few videos...

"I got an exaggerated case study of everything wrong with the Sonic series between SA1 and Sonic 06."

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

Also gonna note they also did this by what looks like using the boost games as base for the controls, camera, and level design...which makes its flaws stick out way more than it normally would.

It has the basic control feel of the boost games (without any of the polish) with the over-complicated movesets of Heroes and 06, the level design of the most linear levels in SA2 and Heroes. And you HAVE to use the dash panels to even look like you're playing well, otherwise you fly off of the loops - even more frustrating is that the engine they use is fully capable of slope and rolling physics (the test level has opportunities for this) but they intentionally place automated sections throughout the levels that force you along a path with NO INPUT whatsoever, you don't even have to hold up, and messing with the controls does nothing to change the outcome; but if you enter those sections incorrectly, you're sent flying.

The devs cared more about including every character possible than putting together a game that's fun to play, or providing a proof of concept worth considering. The only proof of concept I'm seeing is that there are fans who unironically think those moments in the 3D games pre-2008 were when the series was in its prime. It's so bad it's almost hilarious.

yeah, I've never bothered to play it myself, but that's the impression I've always had from videos of it. it's a shame because there's clearly been a fair amount of effort put into it, but it doesn't seem to have accomplished much.

3d sonic fan games really frustrate me. I fully understand that they're not easy to make, but it feels like someone should have been able to get it right (or at least mostly right) by now.
