  1. I'll never forgive SEGA for taking a perfectly good concept like Sonic Riders and turning it into a botched motion control tech demo cash-in.

Even putting aside Free Riders (which wasn't hard to do, I never owned a Kinect), I'm still mad about how Zero Gravity dismantled all of the mechanics that made me love the gameplay from the first game. Tricks for air, hitting enemies, boards and level design having Heroes-styled abilities/shortcuts, rings upgrading boards, all of that was either nerfed, pushed to the background, or trashed entirely.

How I wish that we got a Riders sequel made by the actual crew that directed/designed the original game (which, tellingly enough, was actually UGA before Sega merged them into Sonic Team during the game's production.)

I had it but played it up til I completed the main story then barely went back...

Really wish they'd have just released an update allowing control pad play after the kinect stopped being a thing

Yup, that's typical SEGA, always drawing the wrong conclusions.

"Well, they hated Free Riders which was built around a dumb gimmicky peripheral...guess that means they don't want any more Riders games."

And besides that, it was just a cheeply made game. Weren't the cutscenes just still images like they did with Team Sonic Racing?

Riders would died without Free Riders existing. 2010 was when they parsed down on Sonic spinoffs.

Plus since the whole reason it exists was due to a deal to promote the Kinect, I would assume there's something in the deal that meant patching with regular controls wasn't possible.

"2010 was when they parsed down on Sonic spinoffs"

Sonic Boom games, Mario & Sonic Olympic games, Sonic racing games, Sonic mobile games: "Am I a joke to you?"

Sonic Boom isn't a spinoff so much as an entirely different initiative.

Mario and Sonic (and the other crossover games because that's been most of the Sonic racing games) are a different beast, not Sonic games alone.

And I was referring to console spinoffs, but the mobile market is probably why those died.

So yeah, they're all jokes to me.

There use to be regularly released Sonic spin off games; Advance, Rush, Riders, Rivals, Storybooks... A year never went by without at least one full-size Sonic game being released, usually more. Take 2008 as an example; Zero Gravity, Chronicles and Unleashed all came out in that short time, with Black Knight following not far behind.
