  1. I'm kind of tired of the Silver Blaze paradox where almost every time they meet up post 06, someone has to make a comment about how well they work together or how maybe they knew each other in a past life (???) Really wish Sonic 06 was universally recognized as it's own contained universe. A lot of Sonic continuity is a hell anyway, but Sonic 06 takes the dang cake.
  2. So, compared to the first animation posted here, that was really clean! Looking forward to seeing more if the animation is of this calibur.
  3. Orbot and Cubot are pure don't @ me

They are both a great addition to the cast and noone can tell me otherwise

      @@@

I can handle them in certain doses, they stretched a little far in Lost World. Truth be told outside of Boom they haven't even been used that much, or at least they've not really stuck with me.

      This is true

      Strickerx5

They do serve their purpose well and are a clear standout as far as the last decade of writing in this series is concerned.

I'd love to see them utilized in better put together narratives.

    5. Sega DogTagz

      Cool with Sa-55.

The other one I could live without.

    6. The Deleter

      The Deleter

Hot take: They'd be better seperated than as a duo

Orbot is obviously best as Sa-55, so keep that relationship. Maybe tone down the apathy a bit so that he fits the role as a commander again, as well as giving Eggman reason to listen to his shenanigans in the first place

Make Cubot a wandering low-ranked lacky, though. He's at his best when he's dim witted but pure, so make him a wandering NPC that cleans up Eggman's waste/runs errands who you can talk to, press for info, (against his will or obligingly lol) or just hear what his thought of the day are

Keeping them together as if they're this classic comedy duo that will never get old is not only restrictive, but it also misses the point of their strengths as characters, as well, and it's just a waste to see. I'd love to see the odd reunion now and again, however; they are basically related after all

      Celestia

This is kind of silly but I'd like them more if they were based on enemy badniks ala Scratch and Grounder. They're fine designs but imo kind of boring when we could have like, a snarky Motobug or something.

Your honor, my defense rests on the fact that Orbot looks like an orb and Cubot looks like a cube

  4. If we're following the theme of big TV personalities with outrageous rhetoric and questionable worldviews, I imagine they'll go for Tucker Carlson, and he'll somehow be even worse than Trump.

  9. It stands to reason that the topic calling for the reintroduction of a SatAM/Archie character is going to attract those who lean towards that direction; especially considering that the entire focus of the thread is how such a task could work. This isn't a general SatAM topic, this is about the merits of Sally Acorn and other related characters and how they could reasonably fit into the Modern SegaSonic continuity. Of course negative comments towards said characters and their shows are going to result in pushback. It's not a double standard, you're missing the point of the topic.
  10. Replace lives in Sonic with score penalties, like in Smash Bros' classic modes. If you die, you lose a percentage of your score.

But you have to make score valuable outside of just bragging rights, so just have literal points as currency for shops and such, like in Sonic Generations, or maybe to replace rings in the Chao Gardens, assuming they ever return.

Suddenly losing thousands of points after dying sucks, doesn't it, and playing well is more incentivized.

      Zaysho

One thing that I don't like even if I get why it's probably done in games like SA2 (and most of the modern titles, iirc?) was resetting your score on the stage to 0 when you lose a life. Always felt like an extra punishment when you already had limited tries. I think subtracting a set amount from a total campaign score per death might work (maybe it multiplies on the amount of tries, so more deaths = larger amounts of points lost?) as well as making the points usable in a bonus mode.

      Indigo Rush

Yeah, resetting your score to zero is just cruel if you're trying for an A rank. A minor penalty is far more reasonable, additionally the Cool Bonus in Sonic Mania would be more useful with that system in place.

  11. This video from the developer should cover all those questions: Short answer is yes, messing with the cartridge will trigger the level select menu. There is also a button combination to access it if you're playing a port of the game: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/genesis/586469-sonic-3d-blast/cheats

  13. Is there a demo? I'd like to give this a spin if so.
  14. Sometimes I'll play through Super Mario 3D Land and World and say "man, why can't translating traditional Sonic into 3D be this straight-forward?" Putting Classic Sonic mechanics onto the Z axis is obviously possible and tenable, with plenty of fan projects doing a commendable job; Utopia, GHP:2 and Islands being some of my favorite 3D Sonic experiences. But as seen in plenty of other fangames, it's not easy to pull off, and as many have said in this thread already, it's not necessarily fun. Adding momentum to the homing attack is one of those "well, of course we have to do that" changes that don't always work out as intended. It's frustrating to readjust your trajectory if that wasn't your intended move, and if that momentum is actually dependent upon your previous speed going in, that's even more frustrating to contend with. On paper, it makes sense. In practice, it's annoying. But bouncing upwards, or not bouncing at all, is just as unfun to me. I feel that the best solution would be a fixed forward bounce that doesn't rocket you forward at blinding speeds, but that exact determined speed needs to hit that sweet spot for control and guidance. Either that, or there should be a different reaction depending on if you're holding the button while impacting the enemy or not. Another aspect of the air dash/homing attack, and this is a hill I will die on, is that it shouldn't be mapped as a mid-air jump ability, and instead be it's own attack that can work on the ground as well. If going fast in 3D makes attacking baddies difficult, and we're concerned about combat being as fluid as possible, then being able to target attack an enemy on the ground should be possible as well. This could also free up the "double jump" slot for a different move altogether to add more mobility options. Beyond that, I'm just not a fan of pace-halting somersault, breakdancing or slide attacks. I think that Sonic Team knew what they were doing up until Adventure 2 with how levels were designed, but failed to find that happy medium between Adventure 1's more open design and Adventure 2's more automated speed levels. I think both design styles are fun and can coexist within the same level. A nice ebb and flow between relaxed exploration and tense forward dashing could present the best of both worlds, and be a decent facsimile of the original 2D games' more platforming heavy sections and "hold right to win" areas ala Chemical Plant Zone. I guess there isn't one specific best solution to bring Classic Sonic to 3D, but willingness to compromise and accept that it's not as simple as dropping the dude in a big 3D overworld like some fangames tend to do is a start. You can have premium grade physics and it won't mean anything if the level design doesn't take advantage of it. This is something the fangame community is finally starting to experiment with, but we have a long way to go.
  15. Man, bless Marky Jester. I love everything about this tech demo. I'd go bananas over a Blue Spheres game if it was presented this way.

  16. The tricky part is getting the birds and squirrels to comply.
  17. Anyway Sonic Forces Mobile should have let you make your own avatar so you could show them off in races with other players and their avatars. Again a missed opportunity.

I could excuse their overambition in making that game, and could let them go for those occasions where they showcase their ego, believing this project won't have a major effect on anybody.

And now they've come out and're trying to undo all the progress these fangames have made in earning SEGA's trust over the years, and give our community another bad name.

      Miraculous Milo

at this point it feels like sonic fangame developers asking money for their projects has become trend and they're goading sega to take notice and start cracking down on fan projects. absolute clownery.

given tracker's mentioned that the developers have gone after him since he's not a big fan of the game, this doesn't surprise me too much though
