    Yeah... we don't need a reboot. Lost World might have not been as good as some of us thought, but it's the first in a new gameplay style. I'm sick of reboot talk.

    Even though the Sonic Boom show won't have continuity in it, I do hope the characterization and writing does really well. From the trailer, it showed that it worked, but we still need more to find out for sure.
    Oh, and I prefer Black Knight to Secret Rings. And Heroes to Unleashed HD. I also prefer Lost World to Adventure 2. Where are the shotguns?

    Unpopular opinion? I think? Whatever.

    Tone does not dictate the quality of a story.

    So, I keep hearing people say they want more serious and darker storylines in the Sonic series. And, I can see why; dark stories are pretty awesome and I would love to see some more of this in the Sonic series - within reason, that is. (But that's whole 'nother can of of worms I'm not going to get into right now) But it seems to me like people don't seem to understand something about how stories work.

    See, I see all these people advocating dark storylines for the series, but it certainly isn't often that I see them say much about the actual storytelling - you know, something that is highly important in pretty much any story out there?

    I like dark stories. What I don't like is;

    -Convoluted stories with plot holes up the ass

    -Characters not having much of a purpose, if any, in the plot and are just thrown in for no good reason.

    -Terrible pacing that makes the plot either move too fast, too slow, or not at all in some cases

    -Characters who aren't, well, characterized in at least a decent way.

    -Awful, forced dialogue

    And so forth.

    You can have a really dark story with lots of serious elements, but if the story isn't told well, then what's the point? The answer? There is none. At all.

    Let me tell you something; Sonic and Black Knight has the distinction of having my favorite storyline of the series. No, I'm not joking, I am being fully serious. And let me give you a brief summary as to why;

    First off, the plot isn't extremely difficult to follow. There are twists, sure (Merlinda being the true villain as an example), but they actually work with the story and don't create any major plot holes. And whatever plotholes the story may have, well, they're so small and insignificant that they barely detract from the quality- I can't even really think of one, to be perfectly honest. Plus, the pacing is well done and I never felt things were moving too fast or two slow. Twists are good - as long as they're written into the story well.

    The characters had actual purposes in the storyline and are characterized pretty well actually (especially Sonic himself whose characterization I felt was especially good) and the dialogue certainly didn't make me cringe or thing like that. Stories should have well-characterized characters with actual justification for being a part of the story.

    Yes, Black Knight isn't really that much of a dark story. In fact, I'd put it around the same level as Unleashed in terms of tone - a nice mixture of light and dark. Nothing too serious. But here's the thing;

    It didn't need to be. All the story needed was to be written well. And it was.

    And everything I said applies to light-hearted stories as well. See, the tone of a story can certainly benefit one, but really only if said story is actually written well.

    Once again, a story being dark and serious doesn't make it good if the story itself isn't written or told well.

    Tone doesn't dictate quality. Quality comes from good writing and storytelling.

    MegaMan_EXE reacted to Brad in I get insulted for liking sonic by everyody at school and they get on my nerves, what should i do?
    Unfortunately, you're in school, and people love to judge others based on mundane things like this. When I was your age, liking Sonic also made me a target for ridicule. Sadly even as you grow you'll get people who define any games that aren't rated 15+ something for children. The only advice I can really give you is to do your best to rise above how closed minded these people are, and continue to enjoy the things that you love - which is in this case, Sonic.

    When it comes to themes, What I'm Made Of, Knight of the Wind, Escape From The City,  and the SA1 version of It Doesn't Matter are my favorite vocal themes in the Sonic series. What I'm Made Of is actually my favorite vocal song in the series.

    MegaMan_EXE got a reaction from Solkia in Adventure Time!
    Adventure Time... oh man... what to say? Well, I used to be very interested in this show. When I first saw it, I was interested in the creatures and the land of Ooo. Finn and Jake were cool characters, and the adventures they went on were nice to watch. When Princess Bubblegum became a teenager, I got hooked. I was expecting the show to go in a different direction, but having more character development, and having Princess Bubblegum go on more adventures. All of that potential was shattered into broken fragments as soon as the next episode came. When Princess Bubblegum became an adult again, I felt like the show was going back to Square 1. It did, and oh man, it was worse this time. I was very angry about the reverse Bubblegum change, and was thinking about how the show would have went if the show stuck with that change. Then... Flame Princess. At that point, I stopped watching. I figured that a love triangle was going to happen, and I don't feel that Finn deserves the shitty relationships. I've heard that the show became a teen drama, and I also feel that the sense of adventure has widdled away. Adventure Time, you were fun, but you have lost my interest.

    MegaMan_EXE got a reaction from Frogging101 in Sonic Boom (Working Title)
    I'm fucking scared about this show. I'm someone who believes that Sonic has never had the best cartoons. AOSTH is a guilty pleasure of mine, SatAM has grown on me thanks to my recent interest in the Archieverse, Underground is awful, and the less said about Sonic X, the better. What scares me about this show is the age demographic being set to 6-11 year olds. From recent animation today, the demographic age of 6-11 reminds me of the worst cartoons, such as Fanboy and Chum-Chum, and... *shudders* Ultimate Spider-Man...
    I still need to see a clip before I really start judging, but because animation nowadays (Friendship is Magic, Regular Show, and Gravity Falls are exceptions), done for younger kids are always the kinds of shows that don't care, and are just stupid. Kids need to be introduced to story-telling, characterization, development, themes, setting, drama, not toilet humor and things smacking their heads against the wall.
    Sorry if I sounded a bit preachy, but that's how I view the situation. When the first teaser trailer comes, I'll be wearing my analysis glasses, because I'm extremely skeptical about this show.

    Guys, I know that I'm known for my Mega Man stuff, but I think that Pinkie Pie hacked my account. The avatar and username came from re-watching Hearth's Warming Eve, and seeing Pinkie come out Rarity's tree hat. As for the signature, I was on I Am Brony and saw this gif. Since the Pinkie Sense makes me think of itches, I decided to put a caption about it.

    Sonic CD: Taxman Remake. Sonic CD is actually one of my favorite games of all time. Allow me to explain:
    Back in 2010, I got Sonic Gems Collection and Adventure 2 Battle for my 12th birthday. I played CD first, and even though I think the original is nearly unplayable, back then, I fell in love with it. I loved everything about it. The music, the atmosphere, the time-travel, everything! When I heard that CD was getting a remake, I was going crazy, and seeing gameplay footage of it, I had to get that shit as soon as I can. I can say that the remake blew away my expectations, and made me see what was so bad about the original version. The fixed physics, the choice between both soundtracks, being able to play as Tails... oh, oh... sorry, I'm just... so happy with CD: Taxman remake. Even though CD does have its flaws, I still adore this game, and is one of the greatest games that I've ever played, along with Metroid Prime, Super Mario 64, and Mega Man 3.
    As for the others, my Top 5 is on my profile page, but for those too lazy to look:
    2. Sonic 3 and Knuckles
    3. Generations HD
    4. Sonic 2 (Genesis)
    5. Colors (Wii)
    Runner ups include: Adventure 1, Advance 1.

    This episode was surprisingly touching. It makes me remember the times when I cringed at the prospect of CMC episodes, even though I adore them now. They've really grown on me as characters, and this episode definitely shows why.

    The ending in particular did a great job of tugging at my heartstrings. Scootaloo's believable sadness and dejection gave way to a great reconciliation among the friends, and the triumphant reprise of the song was perfect. It was impossible not to grin during that scene.

    Also, the new song (including the reprise) for anyone who wants it:

    It's been awhile since I could say that a MLP episode wrapped itself up really nicely, because it did.  The ending was pretty much everything I wanted out of it (though, I think Harshwhinny and Rainbow Dash neglected to mention that the auditions were going to be held in a stadium filled to the brim with ponies, but whatever).  They delivered the moral of the story well and managed to weave in some of that friendship stuff on top of it.  I didn't expect them to do a reprise of the song at the end though, but it worked perfectly and made the ending stand out even more.

    Good episode overall.  Lots of feels and stuff.

    Eh, I found this one to be okay, I never was that interested in DD as a character (more on that later) so the best parts for me was when she wasn’t there, (the first act and the nerd battle.)

    I feel that discovering Daring Do is real both improved and degraded my opinion of her for different reasons. Firstly, a mini rant on why I hate her design and was uninterested in her story during RiaW. Of all the official characters DD has the worst color pallet choice IMO and is the only character I actually dislike because of it; Gradient grey hair with a grungy yellow coat with a beige hat, greenish gray jacket on a character that’s always in ancient temples and shadowy jungles. There’s nothing interesting or vibrant about her character design besides her eye color. She’s so muted and de-saturated that she blends in too much with her environments and sticks out like a sore hoof standing among the main six. My last grievance is the fact that she was a blatant pallet swap of Rainbow Dash. As for why I didn’t like her RiaW story, it was at the time fiction-within-fiction following a character that I didn’t like aesthetically and had no investment in.

    With the revelation that Daring Do exists in-canon I’m now invested in the character as her adventures carry some weight and consequence for the fate of Equestria/the world.  However by being an actual character I can no longer hand wave her lazy design as just Rainbow Dash projecting her own likeness onto a fictional character.

    It wasn’t a good episode but it didn’t do anything really bad with the main cast, although I agree with the sentiment that aside from Twilight they didn’t need to be in the episode after the party. The humor and Indy references were enough to keep it fairly entertaining but just like Castle-mane-ia there wasn’t enough of the strong character development and introspection that made me love this series, hopefully next week delivers.

    MegaMan_EXE reacted to Dr. Mechano in Vocal Themes
    I completely, unironically love Sonic R's soundtrack. To this day, they rank as some of my favorite vocal themes in the series. Their catchy, downright infectious melodies and unapologetically optimistic lyrics have always had a special place in my heart. Was it fitting for a racing game at all? Probably not! But to this day, I'll jam out to "Feel the Sunshine," "Work it Out," and "Diamond in the Sky" with a dopey smile on my face.

    Oh right, obligatory "E.G.G.M.A.N." mention. Of all the character-centric themes, I think the Doc's is the best (and that really is with my blatant fan bias aside). I'm glad to see it used again in subsequent games, and I think it really fits such a bombastic character.

    "Reach for the Stars" was good too, but then, so was pretty much all of the music in Sonic Colors.

    Well, the episode was fun.  Daring Do's... sort of a bitch, and I'm not sure if the best lesson for Rainbow Dash to learn here is "fuck yeah, I'm awesome".  Not a particularly great episode, but fun with a lot action going on.

    I did love the nerd fight between Twilight and Rainbow though.  That was great.
