BlueSky got a reaction from Monkey Destruction Switch in Foreign releases of English Sonic comics
Oh, this topic is a thing, interesting, let's see if my hunch is right...
Well, don't mind if I butt in, I can tell you the little I know about this stuff... 😤
So, by no means claim I to know a lot, but I suppose I can fill at least few blanks since I ended up borning up here anyway.
The run in Finland was a pretty short one, only couple of years or something I've heard. I've seen few early issues couple of years back in one book event of sorts and I managed to buy one, sadly most of them were like 10€ per issue which was a bit too much for my wallet but I managed to buy one anyway, I think I've mentioned this sometime before in the forums...
Okay, the comics were published in Finland, by Semic (which was around and published other translated comics as well, like Spirou albums, until Egmont bought it or something like that, I'm not too sure but Egmont publishes some stuff they did back when they were around) around mid 90's, which was probably a bad time considering the economy of Finland back then, depression was still a thing back then I think. Anyway, the issue I have is dated to 1994, cost 12 marks, was labeled as issue 3 but had the cover of mini-series issue 2 while having stories from issue #3 (the 2 longer ones), and smaller ones about Tails going to his "first solo adventure" (from original issue #4)where he overheard stuff from the picnic Robotnik threw outside with the robots, and the one-page ones where Sally used Sonic's quills as an info board, and where they took the group picture. Kind of a mixture isn't it...
Needless to say the translation is pretty... hilarious, like, you remember in that bomb story Rotor said he could make a James Cagney impression (that brings my mind that Nik Kershaw song "James Cagney"), well, in Finnish version the name was localised into this one Finnish singer (Kaija Koo) and in one part he was pretty much citing the lyrics of this one song, I suppose this was used because it kind of fits in the context considering the rough translation to that part would be "oh yeah, come closer baby come closer baby" or something... that's pretty much the only logical answer I can come up with about how James Cagney transformed into a female singer. This becomes pretty interesting as you can see... Sonic was "that darned hedgehog" or something akin to that... Another person whose name was changed was from that Tails story, Michael Jordan became Antti Kasvio... who is an ex-swimmer it seems, and it seems he was pretty good, go figure, these comics teach me stuff I should prolly know since my home country and stuff.
There was this small reader corner as well, where readers could ask about stuff, and there were even some kind of game hints thing in it. One kid was sad because their family couldn't probably afford to order the book (but they could still buy the individual issues) since that depression, and the corner holder was trying to convince the kid to try and get them to order it anyway since it's Sonic. The kid actually puts it best; when reading your book one cannot read without laughing, the thing is even, you know, not in the bad way, cheesier than in English come to think of it.
I've been checking out whenever it's possible if I could get other issues as well, but I'm not that good at buying on the internet so it's mostly on the events where I get any chances... but yeah, I have this one, where one reader asks who Scott Shaw is since he draws like an artist...
Oh geez, it says in here people have asked to get Sonic visit their birthday parties trough the reader corner...
Fun fact, our market magazine stands actually imported the English Archie Sonic until it ceased to exist, I'm not too sure when they started but I recall seeing some forum discussions about it and if I remember them right they were talking about things that happened around the 200's or a bit later.
Haven't seen the IDW ones anywhere though, cough cough...
I can try to answer for more questions if you get any, I'm not sure about how much I can help but with questions about that one issue I think I can help the very least.
And this was just something quick I made as quickly as possible, I prolly forgot a lot but I'm in a kind of hurry and I'll get back to it if needed, as you can see this is what happens when I get a possibility to talk about anything, everything gets long when I write...

Ah, okay, it was probably just me then. I wasn't purposefully trying to nitpick or just find another small inconsequential thing to rag Penders about, so I hope I didn't come off that way. Was just reading these data files and noticed he still used a similar format. Sorry for derailing the conversation about something so minuscule, haha.
(On a tangent, the backstory Penders gave Amy was interesting. Not terrible to me or anything like that, but interesting. Sorry, that's pretty much my cop-out word when describing something, haha.)

When listing people’s known family members in a profile, most people just put the most immediate family members (parents, siblings, grandparents, etc), not a family tree without the tree.

Whatever there was in store, I suppose it'd have been something I could actually care about. The solicits were pretty promising and there were characters I actually liked that didn't sport Sega plot armour. That's kind of killing most of the tension and when I'm reading comics I'd appreciate there'd be some bits I couldn't be too certain of, otherwise it'd be pretty boring.
As much as I felt sad about Antoine getting Metal Sonic blown straight onto his face it was still interesting and exciting. In a way. As an example.
My newest conspiracy theory was Sega kept ArchieSonic around just enough time to get the world record broken.

I’m honestly shocked that he hasn’t claimed ownership of Finitevus considering it would fit the same warped logic he uses for why he “technically” owns Archie Eggman.

Ick, I'd hate to have my body associated with this thing.
And is it me, or does the guy laying on the table look less like an "Echyd'nya" (or whatever) and more like just one of his many Knuckles clones?
As for the chair thing, playing devil's advocate here, but maybe he's doing it because of their tails? (They do have tails still, right?) You know, like those 90's pics of Looney Tunes where they're wearing pants backwards so their tails can stick out of the zipper?

If I were to guess, he thinks its cool because of William Riker from Star Trek. He had a habit of sitting dramatically which, since Ken ADORES Star Trek, he probably thought everyone should sit like that to look as cool as Riker.

So, Penders has posted a panel from the prequel comic, this one featuring the newly revealed Dr. Zephur. Coulda swore it was "Zephyr"... in any event-

So, Zephur STILL looks grotesque, but the real story here? Is Penders not only continuing to use photographs in place of drawing stuff, but actually going so far to use photographs of HUMAN anatomy and physiology despite this being a surgical/medical examination of his supposedly alien Echyd'nya. Like, good grief man, it's bad enough when he uses this crap for backgrounds, but this is really taking it to another level given how much he's screamed about this being 'hard science fiction' and crap.

My birth month combo celebrates the LONG-AWAITED release of Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling on Netflix with a theme based on one of my favorite Rocko episodes, "The High Five of Doom." (The "doom" part of it also works as a tie-in to Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus, also releasing on Netflix next month.)
Also, funny story about this particular avatar: I actually capped it from my Rocko DVDs back in 2016 when Static Cling was first announced so I could have an appropriate pic to rock when it released. Well, if you know anything about this particular movie, then you know how long that took, so to be able to finally use it is intensely gratifying. (In the time since, the DVD drive in my laptop crapped out, so that should give you a good idea how persistent I was with using this stupid Filburt pic.)

Oh boy, this is a long story coming.
I had a name back when it was called a screen name (a very long time ago.) It fit me for the time but it was back since early high school and after about 15 years the name no longer reflected me as I saw myself.
About two years ago I started thinking about changing my name, I settled then and realized it wasn't for me.
Now, at the beginning of this year, I decided on what to call myself. Sonic has been with me since 1993. He's been a constant in my life no matter good or bad. I've enjoyed pretty much all media and, well, it's led to this. Bad day, Sonic. Good day, Sonic. Need a morale boost? Sonic. Sonic doesn't belittle, Sonic doesn't make you feel bad about yourself, Sonic is happy, carefree, sarcastic, and charming. Then, SA2 came out and my penchant for antiheroes led me to Shadow. Shadow does things that no one else does because it's the right thing to do. He will do the hard things people find they can't or won't. I admire these traits, that's why I like antiheroes. Shadow also has a pretty deep backstory, at least to me anyway. (Probably an unpopular opinion.)
Anyway, off track. I do that a lot. In the vein of Sonic related names, it's hard to be unique. Most of them have been chosen or done, so I decided to do something in counterpart. Sonic is the Blue Blur. It's the coined term. Since Shadow is my favorite, I decided off something like this. Black/red didn't sound great and it was odd to say. Onyx and Crimson sound unique and also are representations for the colors of his fur. SO, OnyxCrimsonBlur.
I got into picture editing with 3D paint and was fiddling around with it. I noticed that a lot of sites use a circular-ish format for their icon placements. (Facebook and Instagram are notorious for this) so I fiddled with some settings, cut and slotted together some images and based the circle off of Sonic's ring-opening from the games and Voila. My signature is my tagline from my social media's and has both gamer tags and art links. I'm trying to get myself out there a bit more (I'm very shy and introverted). Sharing this much is a bit of a gamble, but yeah.
Well, there's my long story. Hope you enjoyed it by making it this far. Bye now ...

    I haven't posted in a while.
A fair while ago, my avatar has been changed to a character named Gō Mifune, better known as Speed Racer, from his old 60s manga and animated series. Why did I choose to change my avatar to him? Well, I like Speed Racer. There's a charm to it that I simply really enjoy, having even grown an interest in him as a child when the movie came out (underrated classic, imo). I would like to collect his manga some day, of which I found was actually quite popular in my country.
Have you ever noticed Speed Racer's effeminate eyes?
I won't change it until my next SSMBversary this time, as I wish to keep a consistent image.
My signature now has a picture of Mega Man from the stage select of Mega Man 11. Go Mega Man, fight for everlasting peace!
I also changed my member title to lyrics from a song from Daytona USA. Takenobu Mitsuyoshi really made a fun and enjoyable soundtrack to an arcade classic, for sure!

I’ve been on a big Kingdom Hearts kick, and the recent announcement of KH3's manga adaptation has got me rereading the previous Kingdom Hearts mangas.
Shiro Amano is an amazing artist, and I particularly love how well he's able to translate the very American Disney characters into his very Japanese art style.
I especially love his, frankly, adorable take on Pete.

    What’s not to love??

This and the previous two avatars are also Persona 5 related.
I think in December I briefly had a Haru avatar which looked cool, and then in January I used a Joker avatar from his Smash Ultimate reveal trailer.
I switched back to Haru (her all out attack portrait) after a couple of users used different Avis and it was awesome to have almost all of the Phantom Theives in the forum 😄

Decided to upgrade my avatar to the 21st century even if I ironically joined here during this century. Originally I was going to use this for this year but then I thought well artists don't really like their work used outside of their own accord even when credited so I went for plan B, something that is on my mind and reflecting the past with an uncertain future.
It is the case of coming full circle. Where has before the avatar was from the first episode, this one is from the last episode (well so far). From a promising driver with a smug on his face to someone who looks like that he's had enough and has let go over the years while the stakes are high. Where you question whether you do not know whether it is reality or fictional any more. It is fitting for what I'm going through.
So why Lupin? Simple, he is the closest anime or any character (living or fictional) to what I resemble. Oh and like Sly Cooper on which it was based on this.

Today marks my 7th year anniversary on SSMB and like several members have noticed and mentioned I continued my tradition of changing my avatar here as it is the only time I do so.
Since joining here on this day back in 2012 I have always had a Sonic-related avatar and from 2013 to 2018 I had one with at least Sonic and Tails in it. This year I took it back to the beginning of my tenure here with Sonic only:

This image is from the ending cutscene of Sonic Unleashed and looking back I’m surprised that I’ve gone this long without an avatar from my favorite video game of all time! I’m definitely way overdue for showing Unleashed some love.
Going back to the image, after Chip’s departure, hearing his parting words and taking his necklace as a keepsake of their adventure Sonic takes a brief moment to reflect. Then he’s off to his next adventure doing one of the things he does best by running. I feel like this moment is indicative of moments in life in general and it’s definitely indicative of my own life in the near future.
My signature remains untouched for another year. It is still the infamous brofist between Sonic and Tails from one of the ending cutscenes from Sonic Colors, which is my second favorite video games of all-time next to Unleashed. Sonic and Tails being best friends and the brotherly love between them across all forms of media is my favorite thing in the entire Sonic series and I absolutely love it! Especially by means of this gesture between them 🙂
The quotes from Richard Bach, John Madden and the middle quote that I saw on a bumper sticker that I felt was some really good advice still remain in there my signature. I have had members continue to tell me they appreciated those quotes so keeping them there made sense to me seeing that it has helped others as that is something I really enjoy doing and strive to continue to do here at the SSMB as long as I’m here.
Now via my avatar and signature I have the best of both worlds with my video game favorites in both Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors 😉

I just thought: Ian’s recently been dropping details as to what the comic would’ve been had it continued (300 being a Freedom Fighters vs Eggman turning point, and the post-300 storyline being the metal virus arc).
But what about Sonic Universe? Has he revealed what issues 99 and 100 would’ve been?

I mean we've gotten to a point where nobody really knows what they want anymore.
But I didn't really have an issue with Sonic in Forces. Its everything else that's really bad.
Which is funny because I don't get how people love Sonic in SA1 and then say he's terrible in Forces. But I suppose the latter is because Sonic is dissonant with the tone of the game.
Forces is this dark ass gritty game about war and shit, and here you have Sonic cracking jokes about body odor.  Its jarring, but that's another symptom of how tone deaf that game was; didn't know what it wanted to be.

I don't think it was a complete waste of time just because it didn't pan out. It's still something I've never seen before and haven't seen since then. That's a good quality to have for a series and character that tends to lean on the same story beats.

Forces made it a point to clean up Sonic's personality to the point where he's much more of a straightforward hero like people seemed to want. Nobody really cares about that though and pretends it's the same thing as Colors since he still tell jokes sometimes I guess?

It kind of turned into a lose-lose situation, really.

I give Lost World a lot of shit, mostly because its squandered its potential so badly. Finally, you have a story that Sonic has to overcome an internal character flaw in himself and you just fuck it up to the extent that people are even less inclined to take this series seriously.
Every potential good idea this series has is just wasted and I hate it so much because it's not. That. Difficult.
And yet somehow, this series finds a way. Its exhausting...
