I kinda fell back a little bit. But here's why . . . I'm adding lyrics. I came up with something recently at work and I've been wanting to use it. The issue now is finishing the lyrics. I have them written down here and there. It's like a vocabulary puzzle. It's really fun actually. Anyway, I've recorded a sample. I hope you guys like it so far. I'm only getting started

Entire original part has been remixed. Now it's time to bridge into my own stuff. Things are really heating up now. The rest of this should be real simple. I'll probably be posting a sample up here shortly as well. It's definitely one of the most interesting setups I've had in a bit. I've gotta make it sound a tad more western from here on out. The wood block percussion and the harmonica really helps. I have also added an electric piano to the mix. Not sure if I still need to do some extra sound searching for it or not. I have plenty of time to do so. I've come this far and it's only been a week. I'm so happy this is going great so far. I can't wait to show you . . .

10 loops are now complete! I have spent a lot of time lately just fixing what harmonicas and pianos I've been using. I added a little vibrato to the harmonica to make it sound just a little more realistic. And the piano solo in the beginning is getting changed up every now and again. I really have to focus my jazzy energy into making it top notch. It's all slowly coming together. I've been playing with the note-bending function a lot especially with the harmonica and the acoustic bass. I've been learning a lot about keeping things mathematical and extra detailed. The major thing is fitting everything in to sound smooth. Timing is everything. I really can't wait to get to my own solo, but this part is really getting me in a good mood, a good zone.

Huge progress today! I've been working on it for about 16 hours straight, with a tiny break here and there. Intro is complete. I've added so many instruments. I've tweaked the harmonica as planned, and added a piano like as well as acoustic guitars and trumpets. And a percussion instrument known as a quijad. It makes that kinda rattlesnake sound. Perfect for something western. Mixed up the drums a little bit too from the usual. It's really coming together. I'm using a lot of jazz chords with this one. It's so cool because the original is already very jazzy, innovation is crucial. I'm gonna have to study this song a little more in order to move on. That and I think I'm done for the day. I've accomplished a lot, and I'm very proud. At this rate this song should only take around three weeks maybe less. Assuming my real world schedule isn't too harsh.

This is rather difficult to sound hunt for exactly what I want. I've had to create a new instrument that's supposed to sound like a harmonica but I still have a little tweaking to do on it. I've got the foundation for half of the intro laid out. I need to fill in the rest. So a little more sound hunting. I am wondering whether I should record the piano playing myself. I recently obtained my old keyboard that my father was holding on to. I just need to find some chords for it and I can probably get it on my computer to use it. until then I'm gonna have to come up with some really cool chords for this intro. I should probably also add a few drums in. But at least the fire's getting started!

A remix request non-Legacy related but for another friend's fan series. I've got a cool plan with this. The only stipulation is that it had western aura to it. That should be simple, as the original itself is pretty western as it is. I've been really looking forward to the day that I do a Tee Lopes remix. I'm definitely gonna try my best with this one. I'm thinking a somewhat cinematic intro into a full on Drum n Bass. There's a lot of good opportunities to show off my jazz knowledge here, something I also very much enjoy. I've already been coming up with things in my head. The sooner I can get them down the better. Beginning a song is one of the most difficult things about music writing because whatever you choose to put down has to play out evenly throughout the entire rest of the track. I always love a challenge.
Got a quick question for you guys, my SSMB family . . .
Has anyone here heard the one about the hedgehog with no spikes?Spoiler
Ah, never mind. It's pretty pointless
Ey homie! Long time no see, as a wise hedgehog once said (or 100x said). Hope things are ok. Life can be tough sometimes
Well hi there man! I finally dug myself a way out of my hole for a change, so I suppose I qualify as burrowing species now, eh? 😃
Yeah, sorry I'm coming and going so randomly seldom nowadays, I'd like to stick around for all of my great pals and all, but yeah, life is taking it's sweet deal I suppose. I hope I have some time for coming here a bit more often now since it's summer and all, but well.
Happy you still notice though!
It's frustrating you have friends but not enough time for them... 😣
I'll try my best not to! 😄
I do think I need all the mental breaks in form of social interactions I can get after all, this place is way too good at giving stress after all. 😑
Though it seems I'm not the only one in here having busy time IRL... Well this happens, nice to have people around though. 😊
Hate to say its true but it is. There can be quite the bit of drama here from time to time, and the people who don't realize they're the ones causing it are the ones who stick around most (coughcoughKHcough). So I understand completely. There's PLENTY of other spots out there though, I'm sure we can bump into one another there.
You oughta try out Discord. I'm usually on there nowadays, it's how I ended up with Sonic Legacy to begin with, and it's a great way to meet people of mutual interests
Well, it is sad. In a way, after Archie Sonic died, my only real interests in here have been the friends I have and the Motobug events and the ASO thread.
But anyway, I get stress from my life in general anyway, this place I'm located at the moment called happiest country on Earth 2018 isn't the least of them. Sometimes it feels like living on Nik Kershaw's "Wouldn't It Be Good" or something, like I know others have other problems than I do but for me my problems seem large enough to give me a stress. That was probably what I was also after with saying "this place", though it does fit on this site as well, somehow everything feels so cynical and I get the feeling I like the wrong kind of stuff. That's caused me to drop terms good and bad when talking about stuff I consume and replace them with interesting and not interesting just to be certain since it seems I don't know anything about good quality or something.
Like, I managed to find (mostly by accident) some anime series to occupy my life since Archie Sonic is no more and then I found out that while it's somewhat popular and I find it interesting and amusing enough to get into it while still recognising it has couple of flaws. After getting into it I find out real-anime-knowing people have deemed the entire thing as poop, including the material the anime is based on in some cases as well. Like, the original material which the anime adaptation's based on is superior to the anime, but the anime manages to catch the feeling pretty well even when it seriously cuts corners from time to time and I do enjoy it for what it is. It is one of the reasons why I think it's for the best for me not to say something's good or bad like that since I don't really seem to work that way.
I'm rambling again... sorry.
But well, other places are cool too I suppose, I've heard of Discord and my favourite finntubers have demonstrated how well it works at best (for example when one is drunk after playing some fanmade Moomin game as a drinking game and tries to get his friend to play the 2-player mode with him since it's not going well, that's the best of Finnish tube scene as far as I'm concerned), though I wonder how the talking's done, like can I just write or do I need to speak or what? 🤔
But anyway, thanks for taking your time with me, it feels nice to know people care.
I'm sorry if I went into too much of a detail, it's kind of typical in my cultural context that whenever someone with different background does the typical "hi how are you" they get whole report of whatever happened to the person they asked it from. Finns don't tend to do the light chit-chat that much I suppose and it can be a bit of a culture shock, sorry. 😅
It's a good feeling! Thank you all for the continued support! I love and appreciate you all! Of course you know, there's no end in sight XD

There’s a little bit of context to this one. This remix is actually TWO parts, and this particular submission is NOT the full remix. Sonic Legacy is currently trying to put together an animated series based off of the comic. This remix will be heard in the very first scene, of the very first episode, where we get an introduction to Sonic the Hedgehog, Tempest the Dolphin, and their first encounter together. This really is quite an honor to be kicking off the series! You can follow Sonic Legacy on Tapas (https://tapas.io/series/Sonic-Legacy) to read Issue 1 of the comic (https://tapas.io/episode/1191915), and check out their YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4NJ6kc_DLlLpXyiqVqZ1Jg) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/sonic_legacy) for updates on this particular animation!
The first part of this remix was done using a technique musicians know as “Mickey-Mousing”, and it’s a technique that’s entirely new to me, but not unfamiliar. This is where one is provided either an animation or a voice-dub (in this case it was voices), and so we have to shape our music to fit emotions and action throughout the scene. Hyper Potions did this with Sonic Mania Adventures, and Tee Lopes did this with Team Sonic Racing Overdrive. You can hear this in many of your favorite cartoons and shows (a particular favorite of mine is Sean Callery who composed for TV shows like Bones and 24). I was also given a stipulation that the scene took place at a beach, so using instruments to represent such was crucial. I’ve added steel drums, Hawaiian guitar, brass instruments, and a fretless bass to help illustrate this. Due to spoiler alerts, and for contextual purposes, this part of the remix IS NOT in this submission. I will release the full version some time in the future, when episode 1 of Sonic Legacy has been released (I will title it as Legacy VIP). We’re all working very hard to take this into fruition, so please stay tuned! It won’t be too long
This submission you are listening to now is the second part of the remix. After the Mickey-Mousing part was over and my submission was ready for Sonic Legacy, the result was not even two and a half minutes. I figured I still had plenty of time on it, and I had actually planned for this from the beginning, so I decided to add a full-on remix to follow it. The total result will be just under five and a half minutes. In this part I added a few things, my signature synth Sky Synth to accompany the Hawaiian guitar, modified marimbas to accompany the steel drums, and plenty more. The intensity in this part is practically double of the first part. Plus, of course, I like to jam out a little bit with a few solos and modifications of my own. Sonic Legacy will not be using the parts you are hearing, except for the intro. I decided to edit that in. Everything was particularly simple once it all got rolling.
This whole project was definitely one of the most fun times I’ve ever had with a Sonic remix! I hope you all have just as much fun listening to it. And please, stay tuned! This isn’t over, not by a long shot! Make sure you subscribe/follow Sonic Legacy for updates as well as new issues! If you liked this, you’re really gonna love the full version! Feel free to leave an honest review! Thank you all for listening and for the continued support! It goes a really long way!
It's almost time guys! Comin' atcha tomorrow!!!
Sonic Forces - Sunset Heights (100% complete)
This has actually been done for a few days already. I've stopped the clock at 24 days. I was waiting for an official word, since I have a plan with this song.
I'm going to be making two different posts with this song, if you've been paying attention you'll know that this song has two parts to it, the first part is the modified version created specifically for the Sonic Legacy animation, the part that was done with the technique known as Mickey Mousing. The second part is an all out remix using the same instruments and some added synths, but it runs like regular.
I've been able to create a version that's just the intro and the straight up remix, which will be the version I post to my pages in a few days, just in time for me to leave for Sonic Revolution. The time on that will be about 3:15. Later on, after the episode has been released, I'll be able to post the full version with the parts used in the animation. That way, you guys will actually be able to get the context of the whole thing, and it leaves out anything that could possibly be considered a spoiler alert for the animation. The total time on that is 5:21. There is no official release date on episode 1 just yet, but we're all working hard to make it happen.
Be on the look out! I think you guys are gonna like it

This is it! I'm finished making the piece, and I'm ready for the final editing process. I've already been partially editing as I've been going, so there shouldn't be much left to do. I was gonna seek external help from one of my Newgrounds buddies, Chronamut, before saying it's complete. It is unfortunate, that I can't post this up online when it's done. I have been instructed to wait until Episode 1 of the animated project is up. I honestly don't know when that will be at this time, but as a whole, everything has been coming together quite nicely, and everybody in the Sonic Legacy crew has been busting their humps trying to bring this to fruition. It's totally understandable they would ask me to wait for it to go public, it's more of a contextual piece anyway what with the shaping of it to the voice dub I was provided. So, I'll be finished within the next 48 hours, but don't expect this to go online just yet. I'm just glad my part is finally practically done. I've been working so hard on it, and I hope it goes over really well once the time comes.
In the meantime, if you can find me on social media, I'd be glad to give you guys what I'm allowed to show you! STAY TUNED!!!

Huge progress, every session at this point it seems. I kinda knew things would be way easier once the initial portion was complete. Now that I have everything laid out, finishing this track is gonna be a snap! I would expect something this week! Threw in a couple more solos in there, I'm really digging the marimba/steel drum combination especially with the sequences I have going for it. I had to update what I sent out to the Legacy crew for the animated project, adjusted volumes and chords and all that. I'm pretty sure now that all pieces are in place, volume adjustment will need minimal if any editing left to do. The hardest and most tedious part of this whole thing now is the drums, and those are simple adjustments too. I just have to make sure that every transition is as unique as I can possibly make it, to keep the audience on their feet, expecting something different each time. I remember I used to struggle with repetitiveness but I think I've definitely ironed out that problem. I'm learning so much every time. This is just one reason why I love writing music so much. The experience. After that all I need is a feasible ending, and BOOM! Remix soon to be done!

Huge progress made today, that and I forgot to do my last report at 61%. So there's a little catching up to do. I've incorporated each of my main melodies (hawaiian guitar and steel drums) with a synth of some sort, including my signature Sky Synth to go along with the guitar, and a modified marimba to go with the steel drums. I've also got a phasing warm pad to go with the midi brass, and I've just been over here jamming out, putting the pieces together, putting down a few solos. I'm almost completely done with it, just a few loops left to go! This shouldn't take a week at this point. I've also had to add a few preset drums, just to enhance the drum kit that I've been using, and only a little bit. It's a tad quiet but you can hear the important parts. Of course, having to seperate presets within one 8-measure round calls for more loops just to make it flow a little more smoothly. I've also been learning a little bit in Audacity as I do this. Usually I use Audacity just to convert my files and record/edit lyrics. I've decided to add a really cool rising sine in there to set up for the main breakdown. So much has been done, and though there's so little left to do, there's also quite a bit of work ahead. It's been a crazy ride but I'm loving every bit of it!
If anyone wants, I'm currently streaming Time Trials on TSR. Mainly just learning the levels and finding who I work best with. www.mixer.com/paulybfromda303

Halfway mark! I made a LOT of progress today. The Legacy portion may be over but the fun is just beginning. I can already tell this is gonna one of (if not THE) best remixes I've ever done. It goes from really calm to really brutal, really quick. I'm having a lot of fun adding in my own solo, and of course I threw in my signature Sky Synth to go along with it. I'm gonna try to keep the beachy theme but really kick it up a notch. So far, so good. I sent a couple short samples to people via Discord, for opinions and such, and it's getting a good response. It's a good sign. I'll provide one on Twitter soon enough, and I can share it here on SSMB as well. I can't give any of the Legacy portion away, so I'll need a little more before I can do that, but it's REALLY coming together now. I'm so excited!
Sonic Forces - Sunset Heights (39% complete)
Legacy portion is complete! I always like to take an extra 24 hours or so after I reach this point to listen to it a lot and make sure everything is set before I send it through. I'm fairly certain that once it's done, they'll upload a sample of it somewhere for you all to hear. I gotta say, this Mickey-Mousing thing was a really fun and interesting experience. It's actually a lot easier than it sounds as long as you hear enough of it in your head, as you go. I'm sure it's a skill that's REALLY gonna come in handy in the future, and I'm glad I got a chance to learn and experience it firsthand. But this is only the beginning! I have plans to really get epic with it. This percentage is still based on the six minute target, but I don't think I will need that much. Once I actually get closer to the completion of the full version, I'll be able to more accurately identify what exactly I need to finish. But for now, I've reached a powerful checkpoint! I'm excited to see what my Legacy colleagues think of it.

Ten loops in the books. I'm actually just about done with the portion for Sonic Legacy. One final loop and a closer. Then I can get to an epic breakdown once that part is over. Getting the Legacy portion done is definitely the priority, and I'm just days from having it complete. I've also been trying to adjust the stereo sound of everything. I'll probably be getting some external editing help with this from a few of my old Newgrounds friends, one of which, AvizuraNG, is a part of Sonic Legacy as well. But it's sounding better and better by the session. I very much look forward to what the final will sound like, but there are still many adjustments to be made. It's a process, but I'm learning a lot and getting a lot of practice in. Per uzhe. I'm excited

Almost done with the official Sonic Legacy portion of the song. I can see where it's gonna end and the second round of it is gonna begin. it's all a matter of getting it up. I've already hit all my keypoints, now it's all about filling the rest of it out. I'm taking it at a decent pace at this moment. A lot of bend play with basses and guitars, and settings used for sustaining notes for longer than it sounds, trying my best to make everything sound as authentic as possible. It really does work the brain a quite a bit, because due to time constraints you have to fit every piece, like a bit mathematic puzzle. I've been paying more attention to positioning too. Stereo effect. I could probably do more with that during final editing though. At least things are going really smoothly. It's been a while since I've had a project going this well in such a short amount of time
This is what they went to Japan for a few months ago. Remember that one?
Sonic Forces - Sunset Heights (20% complete)
Not bad so far. I'm still playing with acoustics, adjusting sounds to make them sound more natural. I've been spending more time adjusting volumes and fixing stuff I already have, fine tuning it so that the rest of the project will go up a lot smoother. I've also added some more background instruments and emphasized the bass by adding another synth to it. I'm learning more each session. I'm learning that layering midi's with more synths actually brings out a better sound, and if adjusted correctly can make a midi sound more realistic. One thing I'm having a hard time with so far is adjusting reverb, figuring out which instrument channels need more or less. I'm trying to hard to blend the sounds together just right and not have any overcrowding with the sounds.
At this point I have to now figure out where to put my next keypoint and which effects to use. There's so many things that need adjusting but I also have to be careful not the jump the gun on anything. I've been super focused on the timing, and paying attention and logging every step I'm taking with this. It could be useful for the future
