Happy Michael Myers day everybody!
Sonic Legacy - When The World Is Mine (Dr. Eggman theme) (29% complete)
More lyrics have been added and the song is named! I realized that it was probably best that I would come up with a few more lyrics before continuing to know which direction to take the song. I've also started a little bit of the next part, the lyrical bridge to the chorus. I have to balance out what's new with what's old so that the transition isn't too stagnant, cause right now it flows, everything is chill up to loop 8, then loop 9 has a breakdown but it sounds really sudden. I'm going to have to fix that. I've come up with all sorts of ideas for this part and the future, so I'm pretty excited to get rolling on it. I've got the whole day and night to myself for once, so things will be done, and unfortunately I don't have enough of a social life to get invited to a party XD. I don't really have a costume anyway, unless I can find my Peewee Herman costume from two years ago (Agh, I don't have makeup though for the rosy cheeks). Anyway, snappin' to it, Slim Jim!
Sonic Legacy - Project 96 (Dr. Eggman theme) (23% complete)
I told ya things were gonna start flowing a little better. I came up with a pretty cool bass transition that I put right before the lyrical part. I also now have part of the lyrical backdrop ready. I better come up with the next parts quick, I want to add a bit of a bridge before the chorus, but I'm trying to also write the actual lyrics at the same time, so I know which way for it to flow. I have a feel for what I want the chorus to sound like, and I have a potential title to call this song. It's all about connecting piece by piece from here on. Also I fixed the trumpet sequence to something a little more complex. It actually sounds like trumpets now This is gonna be great
Sonic Legacy - Project 96 (Dr. Eggman theme) (16% complete)
It's proving to be way tougher than I thought but I think I finally found the sound I'm looking for. Now things should go a little quicker. This is so complex it's like nothing I've ever done before. Once I get this thing flowing it's gonna sound real good. I've gotta keep moving though. Time is a-flyin'. I added my signature Sky Synth and changed up everything else to their correct sequences, did a little volume adjusting. I added the cool rocky bass-synth from my last piece as well. It combines well with the "woh-woh" bass I got. I may need one other adjustment to the drums, but I'll find it eventually. Tambourines perhaps, every 3rd/4 count. Or something similar
Project 96 (Dr. Eggman theme) (14% complete)
This is the wildest thing I've ever had to do. And I'm struggling with it, but maybe that's a good thing cause now I have to take my time and make sure that all transitions and all the details are really smooth and flow together nicely. The intro is just about done, just a few more tweaks to make and that will be set. Everything else should start flowing a little better after this. I'm adding a few hard synths to really raise the tensity of it. I added somewhat of a woh woh bass to it and hopefully I can get it to blend in. I know something else is missing, a background instrument of some sort. I WILL find it. I've been looking for a while, but mainly just fooling around with synth settings to find the right sounds. Things will be moving real soon
Project 96 (Dr. Eggman theme) (10% complete)
Still just laying down ideas for the intro. I have a lot of detail work to do but I did add 16 measures of quick strings. That took a whole day to come up with it was so tough. I now need to start doing some bass work and drum buildup. And I better plan something smooth out soon. I'm coming up with future plans and need to find the way to connect them. This is gonna take some hardcore thinking. I've also written a half verse of the lyrics. That took thinking too. I have to match Dr. Eggman's personality in my words, I'm finding that digging deep into my bottled up anger and being dark really helps in situations like this since, you know, Eggman's the bad guy who wants revenge on Sonic and to dominate the entire world. It's pretty fun actually. But this has to be one of the toughest things I've ever had to do overall. I'm definitely taking my time with it. Can't miss a thing
Project 96 (Dr. Eggman theme) (4% complete)
Finally have the foundation down. Trumpet chords, an orch hit, and cymbals. Still need a few details before the first loop is actually complete. But at least I'm coming up with a plan. I better be careful with it. Whatever I put down has to match what I do in the future. It's gonna be a little tough because I've got a fierce sequence to start. And I'm gonna have to find a place to put lyrics. I want them in the beginning somewhere. Its taken a while for me to come up with what I have now, just because I'm so unsure that it'll actually work. But the beauty of creation is that I can always go back and fix it if need be, if I come up with something better. It sure is one tough cookie though
STARTING PROJECT: Project 96 (Temporary name, of course)
TARGET 6 MINUTE BEAT (70%) WRITE LYRICS (10%) RECORD LYRICS (10%) EDITING (10%)
My first task with Sonic Legacy is to create a custom theme for Dr. Eggman. So far the stipulations are they need to be orchestral like his theme from Sonic 06, and yet more upbeat like his theme from Adventure 2. I suggested it be a DnB track. Seems like they like the idea. Hey, if you know me, you know that Drum 'n Bass is my main go-to genre. I've been thinking of ways to start off all night at work (and at the gym just now). So many options, my head is going crazy right now. Better get these down now while it's still fresh in my mind. I'm excited for this one, I feel like it's gonna be a big step forward
How is SSMB doing today? I've taken a couple days off to celebrate such an eventful week. Two songs posted, ranking at 9th and 10th for the week, a raise at work, I've got a wrestling match tonight in my Halloween costume (superhero)
And of course the high point of my week, you guys are looking at Sonic Legacy's newest audio contributor! I would say I'm so excited to get started, but I needed a few days. Last week was chaos for sure. But I'm still SUPER STOKED to be on the team! One step closer to the ultimate dream!
Thanks @Kiah. I hope so too . . . one step at a time, you know how it is
So the Sonic Toaster is finally in circulation! I'd ask if you got yours yet . . .
But that's not MY concern
tfw you get a day off from that pesky blue hedgehog
So now it's October. A month of ghosts, goblins, tricks and treats, the color pink, and pumpkin pie
And the Sonic Toaster, which should be in circulation soon XD

Lyrics written and performed by Pauly B
Just in time for the Halloween season, it's my little tribute to one of my favorite, and one of the most underrated SEGA games ever, Radical Rex! Tread lightly, this track is haunted! Ooooooo!!!
I did something different with this one. I actually started creating from the middle, as it was the first part that came to my mind before I decided to create it. I wanted to create somewhat of the perfect sound beforehand so that I could build off of it a lot smoother. Everything else was added along the way, I very much just went with wherever the flow took me on this song.
It gave me a great chance to dig deeper into some more settings of the Envelope Generator. I wanted to create a feedback sounding instrument to make it kinda modern. It's something I've been meaning to do for a while and this song gave me that perfect opportunity. I did use a lot of bass instruments with this one because I felt like it gave it more of an intense feel, like it's really time to do or die. The church organ and the whistly vibrato synth in the beginning were pretty easy to do, but even more fun to modify. I've been finding what works and what doesn't as far as pan-shifting and volume control. I can't have it too bassy.
The poem in the beginning was pretty much freestyled. I wanted to add the words "radical" and "legendary" because those were some of Radical Rex's catchphrases. But it was a little hard to rhyme radical when I was first thinking of what to use. I ended up using some website to find some and I ended up using "fractional". I tried to make it a little scary sounding by lowering the pitch and adding just a little reverb (I really tried to control it this time). For the chorus, I wanted to double up on the vocal tracks to give it more of a rock-n-roll sound. I've never really gone this metal with my voice before. It was fun, and it came out exactly as I wanted it. I didn't even really edit the vocals at all with the pitch change, as I wanted it to sound natural. All it took was volume control and effects. I'm actually happy with the vocals, and I hope you are too.
Really fun project to do. And I finished it just in time for the Halloween season, which was the goal. That being said, thank you all for listening, all honesty is completely appreciated, and please, have a fun and safe Halloween!
Darkness falls in the midnight hour
The dead rise once more in the moonlight's power.
This evil presence on a field so clear
A cursed aura of suffering and pain draws so near
In a place where survival is fractional
To tread amongst this land one would have to be so radical
And only when you conquer a land so scary
Can you be known in history as . . . LEGENDARY!
Now's the time to do or die
You have to think clearly if you're gonna survive
Better keep moving or get buried alive
Now's the time to do or die
You have to think clearly if you're gonna survive
Better keep moving or get buried alive!
Radical Rex - Do Or Die (Graveyard) (98% complete)
Editing was pretty simple for this one. I didn't have to worry too much about pitch changes. I double layered them because I wanted them to sound more natural. It was more volume control than anything else. I have every clip done. I could post this now if I wanted . . . but I want to make sure that I didn't miss a single detail. I did kinda skim through that last part. I did already fix a lot of the beat. Two songs in one week . . . I haven't done that in a decade. I better be careful before posting it online

Lyrics written by Pauly B, performed by Fallen4Freedom
It’s my official audition to join Sonic Legacy as a contributor. Sonic Legacy, formerly known as Sonic Paradox, is a group of comic writers, artists, musicians, and voice actors dedicated to the Sonic fandom, It’s a beat I’ve had in my head for a long time, years. I could never start it because I had a requirement for a female vocalist, as it wouldn’t have sounded as good with my own voice. It took a while to find one. I was asking around one day, when my newfound friends over at Sonic Legacy pointed me towards one of their members, Fallen4Freedom, who agreed to help me out with this project. Hence, the project can commence!
I replaced the original sitar melody with her voice, and moved the sitars to the middle bridge and the solo for variety. I had listened to a few examples of Persian electronica to study, and I incorporated a lot of percussive drums and ethnic instruments, mixed with fast paced synths, and I felt like speeding up the tempo was necessary for more of the feel that you’re racing. I tried to focus on layering, and adjusting the left-and-right panning accordingly. It’s still something I need to master, so I’ll gladly take any opportunity to practice it. I also took some time to balance out bass and treble and everything in between.
As far as editing the voice clips go, I learned a lot from the single project, and Fallen4Freedom did an absolutely wonderful job with execution, and a lot of it was super easy to edit. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely an improvement from past projects, and I learned so much. I got a deeper look into a few functions that I hardly used, mainly in attempts to blend clips together when necessary. I’m paying closer attention to the little details, such as timing and volume control. Using two different programs to adjust volumes actually really comes in handy. There are some things I can’t touch with my producing program, Cakewalk Kinetic, that I can in my editing program, Audacity. I’m finding out what those things are, slowly but surely.
Overall this was a really fun project to do. I want to send an extra thanks to Fallen4Freedom for doing such a wonderful job, and to Sonic Legacy for providing an opportunity. I hope you all like this as much as I liked learning from it, and as always any honesty is appreciated . Thanks everybody!
Racing through the sands of time
No one knows just what you'll find
All the answers lie in sand
Your own fate rests in your hands
Rests in your hands

Final clips have been obtained and the editing draws close to conclusion! I only have one more part left to edit in, and then a couple more experiments with effects, as I am getting close to finding the right sound for the chorus but I feel like it's not all there yet. Just a little more tweaking to do on that, then I should definitely take maybe a day or two to proofread everything before posting it. It's so close and I absolutely can't wait to show the world this one!
Radical Rex - Do Or Die (Graveyard) (90% complete)
Retakes were taken and I finished the beat strong. All that's left is the editing. I actually tried to record the poem I had written. 55 seconds. That might be too long, but I'm not gonna rule it out though. I have plenty of time to experiment, and if I can make it work, I'll use it. That will, of course, bring the total to about 6:30 or more. I'll deal with it. I'm not 100% confident with it though. It was hard to rhyme "radical" (I ended up using "fractional" lol). The editing is going to be fun though. I double voiced everything so I can try to blend them together for a more heavy metal sound. I may have to find some new plug-ins. This may take a little studying. Not a bad idea to explore a little.
Radical Rex - Do Or Die (Graveyard) (82% complete)
I have to rerecord some more clips here as well. Got a change in the lyrics. I've also been fiddling with the pan shifting, as everything seemed clustered together in the center. I might have to kinda nix out the idea for the poem in the beginning. I wouldn't want the intro to be too long. I'm still looking at very close to the six minute target either way. I've finished up the second round and I'm ready to close out. I have a few bugs to fix with the repetitive breakdowns, mix it up a little more. This one's getting pretty close to completion too. I know exactly what I want to finish with too, so it'll be a snap. I very well may have two songs posted within the same week
Sonic Riders - The Sands Of Time (Sand Ruins) ft. Fallen4Freedom (96% complete)
I'm waiting for one retake. It's very easy so it shouldn't take long. I've got everything edited except part of the chorus. Not only the retake, but there's something that feels missing. I can't add the echo I've been using throughout because it drowns out the lyrics, so I'm doing a little exploring and seeing which effects I can add to give it that right sound. I have tried reverb but it's either too much or not enough, so I'll either have to find a way around that or find the perfect setting for it. The timing has improved greatly. It's like fitting Tetris pieces XD. I'm drawing near the conclusion of this project. It's been really fun, and I can't wait until this is live and online. Fallen4Freedom has done a wonderful job with this, I couldn't be more grateful. And according to my autotune accuracy reader, she did a better job than I did on my Park Avenue remix before editing XD. That's a good sign, I just hope my editing skills have advanced enough to figure this one out. Fingers crossed
Sonic Riders - The Sands Of Time (Sand Ruins) ft. Fallen4Freedom (93% complete)
All clips have now been obtained! It's time for me to buckle down on the editing. Fallen4Freedom did a pretty good job, though I haven't tested it against the timing yet, I have a step-by-step program that I came up with myself just for this very situation, from when I was writing for Aaron Webber's independent Skies Of Arcadia project. It worked on my vocals, but this oughta sound real interesting once it's done. She even did both melody and harmony. I'm super stoked about this one. The timing wasn't all too bad either. With my other current project nearing completion, I could possibly be posting two songs within the same week! That will definitely help get my name out there, if they see it a little more frequently. I'm definitely gonna be busy for the next few days
I'll be honest, for a second there I thought so too. I was close to replacing it with just another instrument. But it got done, and I am relieved. That's one of the setbacks with working with a third-party, or any kind of collab for that matter. And sure, it's understandable that things come up, and that getting things done could be stalled. I've had plenty of abandoned projects in my time just because people either forget or have other priorities and what not. Fallen4Freedom herself is a comic writer for Sonic Legacy, and I know she's been busy. I'm just SUPER grateful I got these. I had to press a little bit, and I did promise her pay if it got done. I'm learning that in order to get things done, you gotta press and press.
I've also had to do this lately with a gearmaker for wrestling, as I paid good money for 12 sets of wrestling gear and have only gotten 2 in the last year. 4 more came in the mail recently but it came with the wrong logo so I sent them back. It's angering a little bit. And I hate acting like a pressuring, impatient asshole cause that's TOTALLY NOT my personality at all. But as I'm learning, it gets it done.
Radical Rex - Do or Die (Graveyard) (74% complete)
I've analyzed what I need to finish the beat! Five and a half minutes total on the beat. The spooky sound effect intro adds 30 seconds or more to it, as I still have to come up with the short poem. The solo is completed! I tried my best to connect everything together measure by measure. That's usually how to do it. One step at a time. And a lot of repetitive listening just to try to come up with something that would come after it. Usual fast-paced style. I have half the second part done too. That was easy I'm just repeating the first breakdown. Er, the first part of it anyway. I'm gonna add something new to it for a unique twist. Maybe put the church organs and the whistly vibrato synth back in it. I can finish the beat if I put just a few more hours into it. I've got a plan for a somewhat abrupt ending and an evil laugh at the end. But I'm gonna have to plan on how to lead right into it. I've got a match to get ready for tonight so I better get going soon.
Radical Rex - Do or Die (Graveyard) (67% complete)
Lyrics are recorded! And yes, I absolutely made it metal. Not too metal though XD. I'm proud of it. It's gonna be fun to edit. If I'm brave, I'll try some other modulations on it, see if I can't make some parts sound robotized. My solo is also nearing completion. Once you get into the groove, everything just flows nicely. I'll shortly be able to identify what all I'll need left and get a more accurate percentage reading. I'm almost ready to close out! Man today's been productive! I'm getting excited to finish this one, I really hope you guys like it. It's different for me.
Radical Rex - Do or Die (Graveyard) (51% complete)
Sound effects obtained! I still need to come up with a scary poetic intro. Probably just about 8 lines or so. Like something from the ending of Michael Jackson's Thriller. And this sound effect I found, it's pretty creepy. Like perfect for this kind of thing, like I can actually envision myself standing in a haunted graveyard with this . . . or trick-or-treating XD. And luckily I can add to it with the thunder sound from my creating program, that'll really help emphasize the boom of the music. I also took the time to polish out the mid-bridge into my solo, as it sounded pretty bland, even without the lyrics added. I may have to dig at it just a little more. The solo is what's next. I'm looking forward to it. I've got some time to come up with something cool since I've got wrestling matches coming up all weekend. It's getting there! However, the way things are going, I may be looking at WELL over the six minute target, so as opposed to 51% I'm probably still in the mid to high 40's. We'll see, eventually. I'll have a more accurate reading when I'm close enough
Radical Rex - Do or Die (Graveyard) (44% complete)
Finally finished replicating the original. That last part was a bit tough. I had to create a fitting loop that was exactly 10 measures long, as opposed to the usual 8. It was tough and there was A LOT of drum work with it. Something still feels missing but I'm sure I'll find it during editing. I have also created a small little bridge to the next part, I think I'm going to do an instrumental solo here as well. Might repeat lyrics with cool effects too. I'm interested to see how I'm going to edit the whole thing at the end. Whatever I choose to do now, I better think carefully though. It's gotta be unique, it's gotta be easy to follow. That's the biggest challenge with this piece this time. Connecting. It is usually hard but this time it's really tough. Even for a DnB song, which is practically my specialty. I'm not worried one bit, but it'll take some time to come up with it. Maybe. Speaking of signatures, I decided to throw in my created Sky Synth here again. See how it works out as it develops.
