  1. Really feels like the past ten years since Sonic Generations released just had the franchise sort of bow out of the spotlight. Doesn't seem like Sonic has had as much of a presence as compared to the games prior to 2010. Maybe it's due to Pontac and Graff's writing presenting the series in a much more simplistic light along with Sega just releasing way less titles compared to the previous decade. I'm also not a fan of their writing just due to how less interesting it makes the games. Just on the topic of "eras" within the Sonic franchise, it really does feel like there's a change occurring in it. I wonder if it has anything to do with the success of the movie. It's like Sega is dropping some old baggage in a manner of speaking. Nothing else to do but cross our fingers and pray that what's coming ends up being fun. For as cringe inducing as people consider it these days, I'm hoping they bring back some of Sonic's edge. Like azoo said, he feels too soft these days and while I appreciate him getting help from his friends because they bring a lot of character to the franchise, I miss that autonomy Sonic used to have.
  2. Honestly, SatAM is probably still a contender on the list of best adaptations of a franchise to a cartoon format. I know it was said that the script hasn't aged well and that's probably true, I haven't watched the show in years myself, however I'd still say it felt like there was genuine effort put into making it the best they could for the time. It's honestly impressive what they were able to do with it given how limited a framework they had to hang a story on given despite there being a Sonic bible for the Western side of things, which was still a bare-bones backstory at best and still the writers chose to eschew the origin story in it for their own ideas. Hell, in regards to the not aging well bit, I'd argue it has still aged better than Power Rangers, the show that ended up being considered responsible for ending its production. Off the top of my head given I don't remember too much of the show now, I'd say my biggest gripes with it and one that extends to the Archie comics for the next decade or so is that the anthropomorphic characters don't fit in with Sonic's own art style in the slightest, which is something I appreciate the artists for the comics improving on dramatically since the Archie reboot timeline and the IDW comics. Tangle and Whisper both look more like what I would have expected to see from anything Sonic related by a mile compared to the original Freedom Fighters appearances.
  3. Anyone that plays fighting games older than Street Fighter 4 goes on and on about them lol. All the guys that I played Third Strike with would hail them like a holy grail. Never got to experience one myself.
  4. What if the announcement was them making Astro City candy cabinets again lol. Would make all the retro fighting game players pretty happy.
  5. What if the opening of the movie is Sonic being attacked by Eggman in a giant drill mech in that small town near San Francisco named Emerald Hills?
  6. I highly doubt Sega had any clue that people would learn to speedrun their game to such an extent they could clear a level in under 30 seconds with a very particular clip through a wall all while avoiding kill planes to take that into account when designing their ranking system. Ranking systems are designed to reward the player a grade for taking full advantage of the game's mechanics and tools that they intended you to use. As cool as it is, you weren't supposed to finish the levels as fast as they do and via the methods they use. I have no idea how you would design around something like that myself, unless you give a much larger amount of time bonus points at the end of the stage but at that point it could come at the expense of the game's other mechanics.
  7. Reminds me of how in the comments of most speedrun videos of the Sonic games that have ranks, there's always that one guy that's like "he beat it in 30 seconds and only got a D? WTF?" It sort of hearkens back to that old adage of the Genesis/Mega Drive games that we tend to think where speed isn't the entire point of the games contrary to popular opinion. Yeah sure you can go fast but where's the fun in just doing that when you can go fast stylishly?
  8. Anyone having a good time with Streets of Rage 4?

  9. I never really though much until now about how little I actually engage with the Sonic community until Super Eyepatch Wolf's reupload of "Bizarre Modern Reality of Sonic." I don't believe I watched the original edit of it.

Lol well, I was referring more to the fan works of well repute.

    3. BlueSpeedster

I saw the original version and let me tell you, I hope that the reupload is actually better than the original I swear to Pichu.

  10. So how many people here were very surprised by the Sonic movie? I haven't seen it, but I remember even back before the first design was even shown hopes for it were dour, and given what I've heard it turned out pretty good.

    1. Tarnish

I'm just curious whether people would praise it as much as they are now had the current design was used from the get-go and thus there were no "OMG, they listened to us and fixed it, now we must watch it!" story attached to it.

  11. I see discussion hasn't changed much since I was last here. They brought back Mighty and Ray for Mania, it just depends on if they think they can make them work and if people will actually care enough that they're worth selling their game on their inclusion.
  12. Figured I would pop in and say I was impressed with how much of a turn around they did with Sonic's design. Even if we old farts won't like the typical anthropomorphic character with a human side-kick story, I'm sure kids will appreciate it. It also might have some nice looking action sequences. I'm not going to see it, but I'm hoping people like it. Also I started on one of the first pages and saw a comment of mine on here from two years ago. Crazy how time flies isn't it?
  13. What have you guys been up to lately?

  15. What has everyone been doing since I've been away?

  16. Hello everyone. It's been a while.

  17. It's nearly 4 AM and I'm stuck laying awake unable to sleep. I believe it's anxiety related to my job that's keeping me up. I've only had it for a month and a half but I'm already hating it and dreading going in every day. I feel like everyone there just dislikes me and thinks I'm a dumbass screwup, vibes I get based just on the tone people use when I interact with them there. Then again, maybe it's due to me sounding like a stammering moron when I speak so they can't understand me.

Why can't I ever just be happy? I wish I could just vanish without a trace, at least then people wouldn't be brought down by my pessimism anymore.

    1. Maxtiis

I know I already did this before, so honestly who cares if I do it again, but I've overstayed my welcome in this forum. My poor attitude certainly hasn't earned me anyone's favor around here, and regardless if people say to the contrary, I think my status posts are becoming a nuisance.

Good luck to everybody here. This time I won't be coming back. I wish those of you that took time to talk to me can find happiness where I couldn't.

    2. Kiah

Going to reply anyway just in case you read this. Nothing you have mentioned with this job from my recollection has been positive so you very well may need to look for another one and even intensify your search. At the same time I have to wonder what is your attitude towards your job as it’s usually something visible and people pick up on. It’s something that can even be detected on the Internet so it’s usually even more obvious in real life how you can come across which in turn will either draw people to you or turn them away.

As for SSMB I’m at the point where I don’t try to talk people out of leaving here anymore. But I will say that you overstaying your welcome is untrue. When that happens generally speaking you get banned. Regarding your attitude it’s a matter of making some adjustments. Honestly you’ve been told that you could afford to be more positive. With the statuses we all say things we wish we could take back at times. It happens so no need to kick yourself on the matter.

If this is it (it doesn’t have to be as you’re free to come back at anytime) then I wish you well. Just remember it calls for action on your part more than anything else. Happiness can be at times difficult to obtain but isn’t out of reach but sometimes changes-especially in attitude-are necessary in order to have it. Take care of yourself.

  18. If any of you are interested, I highly recommend trying out Smooth Doom. It's just a cosmetic mod with no alterations to gameplay, but it really is a nice touch of paint to an old classic. Honestly, it reminds me of how Sonic Mania updated the classic sprites.

I only found out about it from a recent Civvie 11 video called Pro Doom, whose Youtube channel I'd also recommend.

    1. PaulyBFromDa303

I've got a friend from high school who would make all sorts of DOOM levels and such mods on his own computer using all sorts of things he downloaded. He's really talented with it. I just wish he'd pursue something of that nature. He hasn't had the best of luck in life

    2. Maxtiis

I'd definitely call making doom wads an art of their own.

  19. This video is only about three years old, but it really takes me back to the simpler days of youtube.

  20. My job sucks so much on Fridays and Saturdays, and I'm here for another 3 hours. Ugh.

    1. Maxtiis

I really wish this place looked as classy as Casinopolis did.

  21. Well that certainly wasn't what I expected. Here's hoping that it's as good as the original.
  22. Part of me wishes the Link's Awakening remake had Oracle of Seasons and Ages as well.

Maybe I'm asking for too much.

    1. Blacklightning

We don't know a whole lot about the game yet so I wouldn't completely rule it out. I'm sure Capcom would be more than happy to go along with it.

      DLC maybe?

  23. I'm incredibly frustrated with the fact that I'll never be skilled at anything. It just seems no matter how much time I invest into anything, whether it be learning an instrument, how to draw, or currently how to play a fighting game, I never improve.

It's definitely the biggest reason I hate myself. I'm such a failure.

    1. Forte-Metallix

The only way to ensure you'll never improve is to keep telling yourself that. Everyone who was ever great in any field started off as a beginner.

Practice will bring improvements sooner or later, but even of none of those things work out, there's millions of other fields you haven't tried yet.

Failure isn't falling down- it's choosing to stay down.

    2. Maxtiis

Well that's another reason I hate myself: I'm a pathetic quitter.

Have you've ever seen or think about seeing a doctor to talk about you lack of confidence???

    4. Maxtiis

      Actually yes.

    5. Monkey Destruction Switch

      Monkey Destruction Switch

Lately I have been feeling a lot of self-hatred feelings myself, though the reasons I hate myself are different. The biggest reasons are my poor social and emotional skills and the fact that I am lacking in any sort of ambition or drive.

I don't have any great suggestions or anything like that, but I notice in my life, since I've realized I am so far behind in these departments that I mentioned, I have to keep my goals small and be happy if I achieve even a small victory, and try not to focus on the fact that I wish I could achieve much more faster. If I do the latter, then I won't accomplish anything at all except thinking about how pathetic I am. I need to focus instead on the little I can do and the small strides I can make. Because at least then, I'll accomplish a little and gradually get better. Not that I'm very good at doing this, obviously. Because if I was, I wouldn't hate myself so much.

It's possible that may be applicable in your situation. I dunno though. It also might be that your talents lie in things you haven't tried yet.

When you said "yes" to SupahBerry's suggestion, I don't know if you mean that you've thought about seeing a doctor or if you've seen a doctor. Either way though, that might be something to try. The last time I talked to a therapist was years ago. She was helpful, but she kept cancelling on me. It was frustrating so eventually I gave up.

    6. Maxtiis

I have spoken to a doctor. It amounted to "I don't know what to tell you," and a $930 check.

I also have poor social skills, and I often feel people legitimately despise me. Often I'm ignored and treated like an idiot, so most of the time I keep my mouth shut to avoid revealing to everyone that I really am a dumbass. All this is on top of being ugly as sin, so I don't even like being a public presence.

The small steps thing has never worked for me. I just can't avoid the reality that anything I do is meaningless.

    7. Kiah

It’s not a fact that you will never be skilled at anything. Quite frankly you are lying to yourself with this one especially at your young age. We all find our strengths and develop skills at different stages in our lives and maybe you haven’t found yours yet and you need to continue to do so. Sometimes it takes time as hardly anyone gets it right off the bat as it usually takes time and effort to get a skill down. Exhaust all your resources available to you and seek further ones out as opposed to throwing in the towel as you aren’t destined for failure.

I’m not trying to undermine how you feel but do you have anything positive to say about yourself? Seriously think about this. Negativity is an enormous hinderence to productivity among other things and it’s a real shame your visits to the doctor were futile although I’m not surprised seeing they didn’t help me either.

I know it’s a real struggle as I went through (and still have my moments as it’s a never-ending battle) but you have to try to think more positively with yourself for starters. Take little steps if need be but just try really hard to not put yourself down so much. It’s something that others tend to see and that in turn has people seeing you in a negative light and keeping their distance as a result.

      Monkey Destruction Switch

To be honest, it's kind of frustrating that not only are you doubling down on the negativity, you don't even bother to say "thank you" to those who try to help you. Four people have replied to try to help you out and you haven't thanked any of them. You haven't even left a like, which I don't care about for the sake of "getting more likes", but because it can be seen as a way of giving thanks. It doesn't matter if you don't find the advice helpful - people you haven't even met have taken time out of their day to try and help you, and the fact that you don't express any gratefulness for this is frustrating. It's really quite discouraging and makes a person wonder what the point is of trying to help you if you're going to react like this.

I don't say these things to make you feel worse, but if your negativity is getting to the point where it is not only negatively affecting yourself but also negatively affecting your interactions with other people, it's all the more reason to realize you have to start pointing yourself in a better direction. Your negativity is probably compounding every problem you described in your life, from your lack of improvement in learning skills to other people not seeming to like you. Heck, even your looks, as your attitude makes a HUGE difference in how you're perceived.

I know, being a negative person myself, I feel uncomfortable trying to focus on the positive aspects of myself. So if you similarly can't bring yourself to do that, at least stop thinking about yourself in general and try thinking about something positive in general, such as positive things about your life. Or if you can't bring yourself to do that, at the very least try to moderate your negativity.

And if you want to improve yourself and your life, here is one small and simple step you are 100% absolutely capable of doing. Just say "thanks" to those who are trying to be nice to you and to help you. It's simply the decent thing to do. And anyone can do the right thing, even if they lack skills, good looks, aren't popular, or whatever. In the past, you've always seemed like a swell person to me, so I'm especially confident you can do what is right, honorable, kind, and respectful. And I urge you to do so, since doing the right thing is one positive thing (in fact, it matters more than almost anything else, really) that you definitely can do, regardless of all these things you dislike about yourself.

    9. Maxtiis

@Monkey Destruction SwitchI actually was going to say thank you to those that had posted comments in a reply to Kiah when I thought of something to say. I don't know if it rings hollow after a post such as that, seriously thanks @Forte-Metallix @SupahBerry @Kiah and @Monkey Destruction Switch for taking even the smallest amount of time to reply.

I'm genuinely sorry if I appear to be a selfish, inconsiderate, asshole. Sometimes I just don't immediately know what to say.

    10. Kiah

I wouldn’t go that far saying your actions equating to you being...that. It’s just that the lack of acknowledgement make you look like an ingrate and that in turn is what frustrates people. However, I know you aren’t that because I’ve seen you express appreciation numerous times in the past. If you didn’t I would of ignored you a long time ago as I have no time or tolerance for ingrates when I’m doing something that comes from the bottom of my heart. That’s what most of us here are doing in these situations and all we want in return is some kind of acknowledgement and appreciation for our efforts to help you out.

It’s okay if you don’t have anything to say. You don’t even have to necessarily reply with “thank you” as the likes/reactions are an alternative of that and are seen as a way of expressing appreciation. Doing nothing or bucking back against our efforts to help you even is the worst thing you can do in these situations honestly. That’s not to say you can’t disagree with what we say as you are free to do so.

So really it’s no worries. Just keep that in mind, okay? And you’re welcome 😉

    11. Maxtiis

Often I've never chosen to use likes, mostly because I think a written comment literally speaks more volumes. Maybe I should attempt both more often.

And honestly I think I can explain that I acted the way I did was due to forgetting to take my anti-depressant. Needless to say not taking really puts a damper on my mood, something I really wish wasn't the case.

    12. Kiah

While I agree that a written comment speaks more volumes but when it comes to social media, forums and the like likes/reactions tend to pack a more powerful punch to express your agreement and appreciation. I actually usually do both I guess to emphasize my appreciation knowing that people like receiving both in return.

I wish it wasn’t the case either but it’s good to know what the root of the problem was and you know how to rectify it. I’ve interacted with you enough to see this wasn’t normal with you.

  24. I'm hating myself extra hard today.

    1. JosepHenry

Do not, you are a god, with powers just like any of us, to make a world better by bringing happiness to others and yourself :)

I feel that sometimes, but always forgive yourself, you are strong.

    2. Kiah

What’s wrong? Did something happen to have you feel this way?

I think knowing the root of the problem would help more on trying to help you out here. Context is key.

    3. Failinhearts

Don't do that, whatever you did wrong... just keep going. I know it's hard for your brain to think of reasons to not bash yourself but please reach out to those who care about you. Looks like people already do with the responses above.

Let them help you. Because you deserve to love yourself.

    4. Maxtiis

Just feelings of major inadequacy and rumination on being a failure.
