  1. I don't really think there was ever any risk of Sonic losing edge as he got more popular. I always looked at his sprites and thought he looked kind of pissed off all the time, and when he transitioned to 3-D models they made his furrowed brow much more noticeable which kept that impression. Sonic's never been cute to me, just cool. Even today when I do create a character in games I tend to give them an angry look because Sonic convinced me that slanted eyebrows looked good on characters in action games. Just don't draw attention to it.
  2. It's always such a bittersweet feeling seeing youtube videos reflecting on the dreamcast, but they're also a real joy to watch.

    1. E-122-Psi

      Josh's videos are always heartfelt.

Dreamcast at least got a better run than SEGA's other failed consoles, with a reasonable number of exclusive titles (pre-Gamecube :P), palpable third party support, and two proper mainstream Sonic games. While it's fate was sealed with the PS2's release, it still lingered on until 2007, nearly a decade. It wasn't like the 32X or Virtual Boy where it's lineup was pretty much dead before it even got released.

    2. Maxtiis

It's also become the definitive cult classic console these days (well maybe after the Saturn). Funny how 17 years ago it was ousted by PS2 but nowadays PS2 aren't worth shit on the retro console market, but the dreamcast and its library fetch quite a price. I now that's to be expected with supply and demand, what with there being less dreamcasts around, but still I think its somewhat poetic justice.

  3. Demon's Souls world 4-2 is literally one of the most infuriating levels I've ever played in a video game.

Seriously fuck whoever made this one. I don't get mad at video games often but holy shit has this pissed me off.

  4. Demon's Souls has pissed me off way more than any game has in a long time. The hitboxes in this game are plain horseshit.

  5. They'll spend the next three years developing the hedgehog engine 3 and develop a "game" to tech demo their precious software in a vain attempt to license it to other companies. They'll then proceed to lose more staff to square-enix, their tech demo will review with mixed to negative reception, and we'll bitch about it to kingdom come.
  6. If Batman and the Ninja Turtles can do a crossover, anything is possible. However both Sega and Toei would likely butt heads over how it would pan out, so it's highly unlikely.
  7. I'm back.

    Back again.

      A  rabbit that makes donuts?

      Wouldn't that be something?

  8. It never ceases to amaze me what  people are able to do with this one simple joke.

  9. He shouldn't be as intelligent as Tails or Eggman but he should have a good amount of worldliness, considering he's definitely the type of character that's traveled and experienced a lot in his time. Basically what he may lack in pure book smarts, he can make up for in street smarts and with a good amount of common sense. That's the impression I've always gotten from Sonic anyway.
  10. After checking out that Sonic Adventure style book, I was reminded of an old Sonic figure I had as a kid.

Get a load of those eyes! Those SA era figures were always weird looking but I'm getting very nostalgic seeing this.

    1. Shiguy

I still have that gold one in my old toy box, the audio chip in it is busted but eh.

      Panda Claus

I had the smaller version as a kid. It lasted about a week until my nephew broke his leg off. Still have Tails and Big though.

    3. Maxtiis

I've got the larger version of the figure which came with a stand that spoke as well. Mine is also busted but the statue is still in decent shape all things considered.

  11. Just found out a girl I like isn't interested in me, but another guy.

    Ugh, story of my life.

    1. Boomer

I know how that feels. Sorry to hear that.

    2. Maxtiis

Problem is it happens every damn time.

    3. Boomer

      Yep, same :/

  12. I swear most people I interact with IRL just ignore me. Am I so unlikable that I'm not even worth even the smallest acknowledgment?

    1. Failinhearts

I know that feeling a lot, buddy...

    2. Maxtiis

Good thing I've got alcohol with me tonight.

    3. Fletch

Is there a flaw about yourself that you need to fix, or are you just trying to get acknowledgement from the wrong crowd? Because I feel it really comes down to those two questions a lot of times.

If you're straight obnoxious, annoying, or anything negative then it would be worth it to better yourself for personal growth and it'll help others want to be around you. Yet, if you're a really cool person that's not really doing anything wrong at all, then it's probably that you're trying to seek acknowledgement from people it's not even worth being around (who could also be a negative influence on you if you hung around them).

I mean, I don't know. At least you have friends online that are equally or even better than people in real.

    4. Maxtiis

It's really not up to me to decide whether I'm a cool person or not, but from my perspective I'm not obnoxious. Most of the time I'm a bit soft-spoken and generally introverted. But after years of being like this, you get really sick of feeling like people walk all over you.

I guess in this instance I'm feeling down on myself because a friend I haven't hung out with in years and I made plans but for the past few weeks she's been putting it off and finally won't even give me the courtesy of a response. It's not like I'm spamming her or anything either, but for all I know I'm probably wrong like with most things.

This is just a small occurrence, so I guess it really doesn't matter. Though even people like my college professors seem to think less of me as well, and when I'm asking them questions regarding class work they often brush me off.

I know I come on here a bitch a lot about my personal life, especially in the past months, but I only do it as I have nowhere else to turn to. The friends I do have would rather I don't bother them with such things. Or at least I think so.

    5. Fletch

Ah, I see... My response was only because I was in the dark about the events going on, but now that I have a better idea, I have a better understanding.

I don't think you're wrong for wanting a response. I know this feeling painfully well of not hanging with friends for a long time, making plans with them and they blow you off. You ask for answers, see if something came up or if you did something wrong and they just ignore you and act like you never made plans. It's a crappy feeling, and me being a more introverted person, it just makes me want to stop even trying. Though, this isn't about me. In your case with her, I hope you're able to get some answer eventually. Maybe she'll come to you first when she's ready.

Ah... Yeah, a professor blowing you off is a pretty big deal, especially since it's in regards to class work and your potential future of passing the class. Is it possible to hit up other students, professors of the same teaching, or tutors that may be able to assist you and answer your questions as a slight substitute for your professor?

It's nothing wrong coming here to vent your problems. SSMB is full of a lot of caring people, I've noticed. I just randomly saw your status and thought I would add my own blinded thoughts, but honestly, this is probably my first time ever seeing a venting status like this from you. So, I can't really say I have an judgemental image of you in my head at all, so yeah. Sorry is muh original comment came off as jerkish.

    6. Maxtiis

I've been venting here off and on the past few months. I don't like it since it obviously makes me appear like I'm seeking attention for no reason other than pleasure through validation, but it's really because I don't have any where else to turn to for it.

It really sucks but thanks for at least reading what I had to say.

    7. Fletch

Ah, I see. I mean, even if I did notice it then I doubt I would think badly of you or think you just want attention. I don't even really think it's bad to feel comfortable with letting this place be your vent place, especially in the statuses. It allows others within a community you're apart of to give their support towards you and hopefully allows you to help overcome your troubles.

No need to thank me. lol

  13. I swear the GBA had such a good library of games that get overlooked far too often. It's weird how quickly the DS replaced it as Nintendo's handheld to own.

    1. E-122-Psi

Granted the DS did at least offer backwards compatibility and the e shop's given GBA recognition as well.

Link play, one of GBA's best aspects, is still yet to be revived however.

    2. Maxtiis

Games released for the GBA declined significantly after it released though. Other than shovelware there wasn't much coming out for it, at least state-side.

And what did come out that was worth buying sold like shit aside from Pokemon Emerald.

    3. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

Yeah that I can agree with.

They just decided to make a handheld with a gimmick to replace the standard handheld. I don't mind it too much, especially since some of my favorite games are on the system but the touch screen can be annoying to deal with, especially if you didn't had a stylus.

The GBA had a lot of fun games that I can remember pretty fondly. So its a shame we didn't get another Game Boy after that.

    4. Speederino

The GBA is legit one of my favorite systems, tons of overlooked gems on that thing.

    5. Mr Loopone

      Mr Loopone

Ah the GBA. Liked the handheld but sadly got a lot of SNES ports (some that were badly botched while others such as Final Fight One were improved) and licensed shovelware as well as there was no light until much later on. At least it is remembered as the console with the most sprite rips and the console that started the Mario & Luigi series otherwise it is sadly mostly forgotten. Doesn't help that the system had Day 0 piracy, not even the Dreamcast and PSP got piracy that quick.

Saying that that's how I got to play the SNES Mario games and the disappointment that was Super Mario Advance 4. Oh and I did get to play some of the library, Ninja Cop is a great game that sold really poorly (so poorly that didn't even play on real hardware). Had that been on the Mega Drive or the SNES, it would have been an instant classic. Other personal recommendations are Game & Watch Gallery Advance (my fav GBA game), Mario vs Donkey Kong and some surprising small time series such as CT Special Forces that were Metal Slug clones.

  14. Nice remix:

  15. What are your opinions on Southern accents? I'm asking because my Oral Comm teacher is from the north and seems to treat me like I'm slow or something when I speak around her.

I'll just say that I love Bunnie and MLP's Applejack & Applebloom for a very good and obvious reason. And Cindy from FFXV. And 90s Rogue from X-Men.

...I really love girls with southern accents. <3

I've been rather into southern accents ever since Zootopia, with Gideon Grey.

  16. I think I realized why I hate my appearance so much: it's because I look just like Chris Chan's mugshot.

    2. Maxtiis

      Believe me, I am too.

    3. JosepHenry

I'm pretty sure you look more bright and happy than that.

    4. Maxtiis

With the way things have been going for me lately not really.

    5. JosepHenry

lol I still doubt it. :Pp

  17. If I wasn't so terrified of driving in cities I'd go outside more often. Oh well, it's better to stay inside all day anyway.

    1. Strickerx5

Eh, it's not that bad. You just have to follow the flow of traffic and just pay a bit more attention to what's going on around you... unless you're in New York in which case yeah I don't know how they do it. That shit is fucked.

Also, parallel parking is a nightmare no matter what.

    2. Kiah

Agreed with @Strickerx5. I can’t parallel park to save my life (it’s not required to be able to do in Virginia) and I absolutely refuse to drive in New York and this is coming from someone that constantly deals with DC driving shenanigans as that’s no walk in the park either.

Maybe get out there for short spurts not only for consistency’s sake but also so you can feel more comfortable being out there and possibly doing so longer.

    3. Maxtiis

I'm too much of a screw up to really improve at anything, let alone driving. I don't get how you can even practice driving in cities as even one mistake can be serious. I'd rather not ever risk it.

    4. TCB

I drove to and in New York and for two days last month in the dead of winter

      Its absolute hell

    5. Kiah

I understand your apprehension. I really do. I was the same way and the thought of driving absolutely terrified me. Yet I tried anyway as it’s a very useful skill to learn as opposed to relying on others and public transportation.

I took the driving class and I failed it. My instructor told me in the 20 something years he was a driving instructor no one ever failed and I was “impossible” with me learning how to drive. That’s how bad I was.

But with a lot of time, effort, determination and taking some risks I’ve been driving for 15 years now after that happened.

Driving like many things comes with risks. You can’t allow the possibility of something happening to hold you back. Otherwise nothing will ever get accomplished.

    6. Maxtiis

I've already had enough bad things happen to me to know that I can only expect much more. And now that I'm an adult much worse. I'm better off just staying out of public entirely; it's better for everyone else too.

    7. Kiah

Expect or assume? There’s a big difference between the two and you are definitely assuming at this point. Assuming the worst at that.

I seriously doubt you are as problematic as you are claiming to be and I wish you wouldn’t think these things.

      It’s really unfortunate but I tried :(

  18. I decided to relive some fond memories by rewatching some episodes of the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. This show has aged very well, it's still pretty damn funny.

    1. Forte-Metallix

This is still one of my favorite moments in animation history:

    2. Maxtiis

      This is one of mine:

  19. Sonic 2 was the first game I ever played and it was on my brother's Genesis. I can't say exactly how old I was, but it's one of the earliest memories I have. Video games wouldn't be my favorite hobby if it weren't for him. Also Sonic Adventure 2 was what me and my best friend first bonded over back when we were both 8 years old so I also have this series to thank for meeting him. And one of my fondest childhood memories is visiting my dad on weekends and picking up the latest issue of the Archie comics. I still have the massive collection I accumulated in my closet and someday I hope to get all of them and complete it. So yeah, I hold Sonic very close to my heart and have stuck with him through many ups and downs. Hopefully there's plenty more ups in his future.
  20. I've always thought Luigi's Mansion had aged really damn well especially considering it was a Gamecube launch title, so I don't really see me getting this. They could've just as easily ported it to a Gamecube virtual console on the Switch, but at this point I guess that's just a pipe dream. Still, having it available on modern systems is nice for those that didn't have the chance to play it back in the day. I can't believe it's been over 16 years since the Gamecube launched...
  21. The avatar really didn't seem to add anything to the game, so no I could do without it being in future games. That being said I, Sonic Team should really consider watching this video and apply some of the design philosophy discussed in it when designing future games. Sonic Mania was a success for a reason and it wasn't because it had tons of content/features.
  22. Anyone remember this?

It's way catchier than it has any reason to be. I'd say I wish Cartoon Network still did stuff like this but knowing how they operate these days it would probably make me cringe a bit.

    1. PaulyBFromDa303

Ha! I was looking for this a while ago . . . can't remember why now. Thanks for the throwback

  23. The Archie adaptation of Sonic the Fighters did a good job reestablishing Sonic and Knuckles's rivalry by giving them an excuse to fight over the Chaos Emerald, as did Sonic Megadrive by having their egos clash so often. The games should try and put them in more situations like this, ones where they make it a competition between each other to beat Eggman, which I guess Sonic Rivals sort of did, just not as charming.
