  1. Out of all the tracks of Faulconer's soundtrack for DBZ that I can really even remember...

Super Boo is the only one I actively like:

    1. Zaysho

I think the score has some good standout tracks, but a lot of it does blur together otherwise because of how the tracks were added to the show. I just think it's a shame Faulconer scrubbed the credits off the music because he didn't compose very much of it.

    2. Waveshocker Sigma

      Waveshocker Sigma

      Pikkon's theme for me.

    3. Tornado

When the piano starts playing, that's your ass.

    4. PC the Hedgehog

      PC the Hedgehog

Faulconer's team seemed to compose music two ways: standalone pieces like character themes (which were good to downright amazing) and then pieces that punctuated whatever was happening on screen (like cartoons like Tiny Toons/Animaniacs or Fairly Oddparents, or more recent cutscenes in Sonic games), which are inoffensive at best, absolutely ear-grating at worst.

    5. The Tenth Doctor

      The Tenth Doctor

Well a lot of people remember the Perfect Cell theme and the SS3 theme meanwhile I really liked these 2 Gohan tracks.

The second in particular sticks in my mind, a great track by Mike Smith.

    6. The Tenth Doctor
  2. 3 types of tutorials:

    1. Controller Display Screen:

    2. Unskippable Story integrated tutorials:

    3. Skill based tutorials:

    [No Space for a visual]

Tutorial that requires you to do a series of increasingly more difficult actions that you may or may not even know what they are (depending on presentation) at the beginning of the game in order to progress.

Which one of these is worse?--

    1. FReaK

unskippable story related tutorials are by far the worst. it even made me don't play games that I initially wanted to play just because the tutorial was so freaking annoying.

    2. Diogenes

i'm not sure if i'd call them the worst, but the controller displays tend to be pretty useless. dumping a big list of inputs for actions i don't even understand yet just makes my eyes glaze over; it's too much to memorize, and training your muscle memory is more important than conscious memorization anyway. it's fine to have as a reference in case a player forgets a particular action of course, but as far as tutorializing goes it's almost not even worth looking at.

  3. I have learned way early on not to judge any part of a game's area of quality/difficulty on player skill.

LP's and streams have made that all too obvious. When comments and chat almost ALWAYS blame the game for what is usually player failure. It's pretty annoying to read.

    1. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

Those commenters likely never stopped to say "I can do better than them".

  4. Star Wars + Gangsta Rap

I remember hearing this song when I was in middle school. Ah, so long ago.

    2. The Tenth Doctor

      The Tenth Doctor

Holy crap, this was one of the first video's I saw online back in 2005.

  5. Books just pages upon pages of text walls that you pay for.

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

They're pretty just the same 26 letters over and over again in a different order.

  6. I'm thinking...

People calling the series Meta isn't too accurate.

Outside of Generations, nothing's really struck that chord.

    1. Tracker_TD

The only time it really got meta in the actual games was the Sanic shirt for Forces, which was pointless free DLC that you could happily avoid. That's... really it.

    2. Milo

I don't know. Between the Pontraff-written games, the Sonic social media handles, and the Boom TV show, the series has definitely shown far more self-awareness to poke fun at itself and its history over the past decade. Being merely self-aware may not be outright meta-commentary, but the series has definitely been edging towards that territory.

    3. Tracker_TD

I don't think the Pontaff writing's good, but I wouldn't call it meta outside of like... the 'generations' joke in Forces, maybe. Likewise, the Social Media's job is basically to be meta; even Nintendo's been doing that kind of thing now. That and the social media doesn't really impact the games, so I just let them do their thing; the self-deprecation hasn't been a thing for like, two years now anyway.

Boom, definitely; but that thing's dead and I forgot about it lmao

    4. The Tenth Doctor

      The Tenth Doctor

There was meta jokes in TSR right? I mean, we've all forgotten about that game but I'm sure we got some kind of nudge now and then.

    5. StaticMania

Blaze and Silver questioning how they received invitations (in the future and in another dimension) are not really meta, it's just awareness.

Those would be the only examples.

    6. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

There's Lego Dimensions too with the & Knuckles, 06 Sucks, Omochao's annoying, Tails Doll is scary, Ow The Edge using guns, the CNZ Barrel, Big's Fishing Adventure 4 etc.

    7. Dejimon11

It’s just with the social media stuff, the tv show and I guess LEGO sonic. With mainline games since they’ve acknowledged that a loud majority hated it the writing and folks kept saying it’s a cartoon hedgehog they decided to go for a more comedic approach so there’s nothing really “meta” in game.

  7. Any Sonic Fan knows: Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog.

Sonic X: Adios, Shadow the Hedgehog.

    1. Diogenes

it was adios in the japanese version of sa2, so.

    2. StaticMania

I guess it was just meant to be different in native language.

  8. And if ya do drugs, you go to hell before ya die...

    1. KHCast

      *smokes some weed*

      *dies and goes to heaven*

    2. StaticMania

That's the true loophole, even if you go to hell...there's nothing saying you can't go to heaven "after" you die if you do drugs.

  9. Chao Garden...

    Yoshi Garden...

    1. Emperor Robrainiac

      Emperor Robrainiac

I'm always impressed with this guy's Mario 64 romhacks, and his recent Zelda hack was pretty impressive as well. It's Always a delight to see what he makes.

  10. I know this is an exaggeration, but seeing people complaining about gay characters not kissing until the end of the series makes me think they want a "Sakura Trick" situation.

Where the characters just kiss every time they're on screen.

    1. Diogenes

      well why not

    2. StaticMania

I'm not sure how blatant it'd be depending on whether or not they're the main characters.

    3. Diogenes

everyone's the main character of their own life

    4. KHCast

Uhhh...yeah no , not liking how they use gay characters as a prop and hold a basic kiss until the end to generate buzz, does not mean we also want the extreme opposite of having them STILL used as props by having them always be extremely gay and have them kissing another person every time they’re on screen.

it could just mean we want them to be treated like any other character, and not have forced moments and stories that don’t lead anywhere until marketable and convenient. It’s not just one extreme or the other. There are plenty of ways to write lgbt romances or relationships that don’t just feel cynical or lazily done

    5. StaticMania

I did say I was exaggerating...

  11. Remember that one Sonic X episode?

That showed the aftermath of Perfect Chaos's destruction, it had Sonic do his part by finding people who were trapped under debris,

I really liked that idea, even if it was just another setup for Bokkun to show up.

    1. Your Vest Friend

      Your Vest Friend

0/10 not faithful to the games needs more tails standing there telling everyone alls well that ends well

  12. Nintendo...for no reason adds Luigi to both Mario 64 and Sunshine in the 3D All Stars collection.

    1. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

They'll make the collection available permently, but have Luigi be the limited time offer instead

  13. Would Nintendo really have sold packaged remakes of 3 completely different games at just $60?

    1. Milo

Virtually nobody else besides Nintendo are selling packaged remakes of multiple games at $60 to begin with, so it's not like Nintendo would even have to try to ask for more money. Nobody else besides Nintendo are also selling ports of fairly recent games at $60 either.

  14. People wanted 3DLand in 3D All-Stars?

The names go hand in hand I guess.

    1. KHCast

I always figured it would be paired with 3D World if anything

    2. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

The speculation of the 3D World port when it was first reported stated that it will come with 3DL levels. They may part of the new "Bowser's Fury" expansion, if only a select few.

    3. StaticMania

None of 3Dland's levels can be played multi-player.

    4. shdowhunt60

I think the main reason why we won't see it, is because Nintendo is still selling 3DS consoles. There might just be less of a desire to bring over any 3DS games, just because the 3DS did decently well, and Nintendo is till keeping up with it. Somewhat. Kinda. A little.

    5. Milo

@StaticMania I wouldn't say all of them TBH, but yeah, a good amount of 3D Land's levels (namely the later stages) are designed for more of a single-player focus.

That said, I'd argue you could rework those 3D Land stages to support co-op multiplayer. I wouldn't even be bothered with them adding the levels as-is, and just promoting them as a single-player campaign. A good chunk of the levels in 3D World (esp. the special worlds) are actually harder to do with multiple players as opposed to just one.

    6. StaticMania

They're not really harder, but people have a hard time with the concept of co-op...

      And not being a griefer.

You can carry another player and not throw them off stage, but that''s apparently really difficult to avoid. Even if it would make narrow or platforming intensive stages easier.

  15. Sooo...Nintendo took down the one website with the Mario battle royale type game because they actually were working on one themselves.

    There's always a reason.

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Nintendo took it down because they always quash harmless, fan made games using their IPs. They would have taken it down regardless of whether or not they were working on something similar officially.

    2. The Deleter

      The Deleter

If they could take down the Mario PC port, they would. Why release Mario 64 with a bunch of improvements all at once when you could rerelease it several years into each of their systems lives, with minor improvements over time to incentivize buying the game all over again?

    3. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

Recalls to mind when they shot down the Another Metroid 2 Remake cause it turned out they were doing their own remake.

      @The Deleter

They tried... But it was too late. Once again, Nintendo pulled a Barbra Streisand and people kept playing that version regardless, now that all the publicity it gain from articles died down. Which was then followed by a giant data leak that put even more of SM64's original code out in the wild. I'll admit, that must be pretty humiliating to them, but I say no thanks to the plague, Nintendo's current position left them vulnerable and unable to efficiently counter stuff like this. So I assume they reluctantly had to let that go.

  16. I watched a lot more anime than I thought...

Kissanime going down provided a small problem in losing track what I watched and would watch later. But now I have re-completed watchlist on another site.

It took like 30 minutes to remember and look from a yuri anime list to find everything.

  17. Peter Parker's dopey walk after coming to terms with losing his powers is definitely the pinnacle of nerdy.

    Reference Point: Spider-Man 2

Also the last part of this song reminds me of Mario Strikers Charged's soundtrack...quite similar.

  18. I just wanted to compare the last 2, but here's Toad's vocal "evolution".

I kinda miss Mario Party N64 Toad voice, ngl

Also, don't forget Mojo Nixon from the movie, though it's understandable you'd never guess that was Toad

  19. Sonic really does skirt by on just nostalgia when it comes to other media doesn't it?

Would Sonic have nearly the amount of cameos he has and his own movie without that nostalgia backing?

If a new series of good games does anything for this series, it'll remove this mindset.

    1. Milo

yeah it's something i haven't made much noise about; but it def. feels that as of late, sonic's brand recognition outside the movie has more to do with making cameos in other properties than actually putting out games. (*glances at forces and TSR* noteworthy games, that is.)

part of it imo has to do with how sega has abandoned any real attempt to market the franchise in the mainstream. i imagine the various crossovers/tie-ins into other franchises/games is pretty much the only level of advertising the "sonic studio" group in SoA can actually afford to do or is creatively allowed to do.

(the movie meanwhile didn't have this marketing problem since it's a hollywood blockbuster and sega had relatively small input in the involvement in the film's production; paramount was left to their own devices for better and for worse.)

  20. Why are people still confused on the fact the Blaze is a princess from another Dimension when the only time she wasn't was one game 14 years ago?

    1. Diogenes

because that one time still happened and they've never explained what the fuck.

    2. Ferno

because that one time she wasn't was in a big mainline console game that got tons of attention and more people were probably introduced to her there compared to the handheld spinoffs

    3. StaticMania

And since then they've totally stated she's from another dimension and every game also follows from that premise...

    4. Strickerx5

It's a mixture of reasons. Things both Dio and Ferno stated but also because Sega really hasn't made an effort to correct it either (among many other things in this damn franchise...). Sure the games that follow mention the Rush origins but that's only ever through text blurbs that no one really reads. She hasn't been a main part of a mainline story since 06 and people tend to remember the bigger outings more than the smaller ones (which include Colors DS). Hell, you'll probably be lucky at all to find people that even remember her outside of the fanbase at this point.

Add in that she's still usually always paired with Silver in some way and yeah, I personally don't blame anyone for still being confused.

    5. Waveshocker Sigma

      Waveshocker Sigma

Too many people who played or heard of 06 but don't know that Rush exists and Sega's insistence on sticking Blaze with Silver when that really shouldn't be happening at all and everyone going off of that.

    6. Marcello

      Because people are dumb.

  21. Last thing I can really say about Origami King is: Having Mario actually react/act more around setpieces.

That little thing really does wonders for making him not feel completely superfluous to everything that's happening in the story. Not necessarily being relevant, but making him feel like a character "in the story".

Mario's not an audience surrogate protagonist, he's just usually silent...so they can do more with that.

    1. Celestia

They should bring back him using charades to explain things to other characters like in SMRPG.

  22. The way Origami King handles Partners is better than the 64 & TTYD.

Having a bunch of different unique characters rarely means anything if their dialogue is only context specific.

This is especially true for 64 where the partners don't really talk outside of stuff related to their chapter.

If they do this concept again, they can do the game-play part better.

    1. Emperor Robrainiac

      Emperor Robrainiac

There are definitely advantages to having partners that only remain in the chapters. There's more a little development with these characters, and you get to know them a little better.

Coming from someone who recently finished TTYD I love characters like Vivian (Who's probably one of the more developed characters in TTYD compared to the others,) but we don't see enough of these characters, leaving me wanting more.

Still wish the designs in Origami King stuck out a little more, but hearing how Nintendo's not wanting to go that way, what are you gonna do? They made do with what they had, and they did well, so I'll give them that.

I will admit, It did surprise me that they stuck with Bobby's death and applaud the writers for this. That's another upside to having chapter exclusive partners, as opposed to keeping them. It allows for great scenes like these as opposed to fake out deaths like Bobbery's in TTYD.

I also thought Bug Fables handled partners better than 64 and TTYD as well. You get three characters in the beginning and you stick with them throughout the rest of the game. As a result, you get some good character development between the trio along with some entertaining banter as well.

    2. Celestia

Party members basically going silent forever after their initial "arc" where they join you is definitely a pet peeve of mine with RPGs. But I can excuse it in something like PM which has a ton of characters, compared to RPGs with smaller parties (for example, it bothers me a lot in Earthbound, which is otherwise one of my favourite RPGs). I almost wonder if it would have been better to stick to the 64 cast for the sequel and build on that, as cool as shiny new party members is.

But yeah, I think OK's method is actually a decent way of handling it while still having a ton of characters. I still think it's kind of unnecessary that you can't control them but I guess it makes sense if they're only with you for a chapter?

    3. StaticMania

Ensemble cast or stay with you for the chapter/area...are both fine, some characters are just one and done.

  23. Gruesome "child" death, only from Cartoon Network.

  25. People really still think Kamek is a girl...

    1. Celestia

Paper Mario and Galaxy accidentally kind of cemented that idea I think.

I was under that impression for some time too until I realized the more common one often seen with Bowser was a standard Magikoopa lol.

    2. StaticMania

Both Paper Mario and Galaxy have separate female Magikoopa though.

People just see the caretaker from Yoshi's Island as female because of the high pitched voice he has...
