  1. Quick question for you guys.

Do you think Sonic Forces did a good job at bringing back a more serious Knuckles?

I would say so in some aspects, but not so in others.

Particularly in regards to the idiocy of Operation Big Wave, where he believed an all out assault would dwindle Eggman's forces... but only resulted in 80% of the Resistance wiped out.

They just continued to make Knuckles look more like a dipshit, just disguised as a competent commander.

no, but it shouldn't have anyway. it did have a good meathead knuckles moment at least.

Sonic Forces didn’t do a good job at anything. Seriously though I wouldn’t say they did a good job overall with Knuckles although they were effective in some cases throughout the game as I couldn’t take him seriously the whole way through.

Admittedly it was hard to assess Knuckles in Forces after being exposed to Boom!Knuckles for so long...

Knuckles as a character shouldn't be deadpan serious the same way that he shouldn't be a completely naive idiot. IMO, the best Knuckles is when you balance his seriousness as a guardian with his egotism and his playful/goofy side.

Mania Adventures is exactly what I wanted from him in fact - he's shown as competent to deal with Eggman's forces, he's goofy, egotistical, and overly paranoid, and Eggman actually made a valid plan to trick Knuckles for once by stealing Sonic's plane to frame him for the emerald theft.

@Ryannumber1gamer I agree on that about Mania Adventures as it perfectly captured Knuckles the way he's supposed to be & the way I remember (and most of that for me was from Sonic X & Rivals 2).

It's really hard to consider Knux in Forces as anything besides horribly out of character.

Okay, let's just for sake of argument throw the gullibility complex aside. He's still by definition a sheltered loner and always has his own way of doing things, and it's debatable whether he really plans anything he does so much as act on instinct and impulse. You mean to fucking tell me that's the character everyone picked to be the leader of a worldwide resistance? You know, the kind where you're expected to order and direct a lot of people around?

@Blacklightning The main reason they used Knuckles is because Knuckles is popular and one of Sonic's friends. So obviously he HAS to be the commander right? because he's one of Sonic's closest friends.

Its just a thing I've noticed that the reason the characters feel so damn inconsistent a lot of the time is because Sega tries to pigeonhole them into whatever role they need to have for the sake of the plot. Regardless of how much sense it actually makes to the character.

But to answer the OP; not really? Knuckles didn't really do....anything. Which makes it all of the more jarring that he's played completely straight as a commander, but does fuck all.

Frankly I would have gone with Tails myself, but that would depend on them making him not a total sissy bitch for a change =V
