    I mean not if they're the most basic of hallways, no, 2D easily is a better choice, but if they're well designed and constantly engaging like those levels you mentioned, yeah, they can imo.
    I don't mind 2.5D as a concept, as the angle and locking of the movement can offer different and varied gameplay designs that 3D can't easily offer. Most of my favorite 3D games use sections like them as well, occasionally. But the fact that they're so intrusive and relied upon in the modern Sonic games has not left me feeling very generous to their constant inclusion, for sure.
