GentlemanX got a reaction from Zaysho in I'm a little bummed the Funi cast couldn't reprise, but I think it's really cool Dete
The biggest thing is probably that Conan is essentially a never-ending episodic Japanese family show and those are pretty much unheard of in the US in terms of any success - and I adore Conan and own everything FUNi dubbed. Sure, battle shonen last hundreds of episodes and can be successful, but those are narrative driven and have a surface level spectacle value that Conan just doesn't. The fans didn't help when they boycotted the release due to the localized names for the dub put on FUNi by TMS (even lying that the dub names were in the subtitles), but what Conan really needed to break out was a way to put the show in front of a potentially interested casual audience. And with most episodes being police procedural involving murder while also being a *gasp* cartoon, finding a spot for it was probably difficult. Adult Swim picked it up which was probably the best option, but they didn't really know how to market it either. It's really frustrating because I just don't have something I can point at and go "FUNi should have done this", I'm honestly not sure what would have worked. Hopefully Discotek has better success - their audience might be the most viable route for the series so long as their relationship with TMS makes it affordable. It is an awful shame that the FUNi cast wasn't brought back by TMS without the stigma of the localized names. I get that TMS wants to essentially start from scratch, and I imagine they're more comfortable with a bigger name voice over studio like Bang Zoom over Otakron 5000, but I love those voices. I need to listen to more of the new cast, but they all seem okay - with the notable exception of Wendee Lee as Conan. Wendee's one of the most talented actresses in the industry, but what I heard of her Conan from the trailer for Episode One seemed either totally miscast or the direction she was given was awful.

I became addicted to Doraemon while it was airing on Disney XD so I know the feeling. I'd love for a way to watch Sazae-san and Chibi Maruko-chan legally (and a non-parody version of Shin-chan too while we're at it).

My fianceė was super into HP growing up too, but has waned for the same reasons. She still likes the old stuff and the world fine, but has no interest in say new material from Rowling like the Fantastic Beasts series.

GentlemanX got a reaction from Berry Xmas in The Lion King is not the only Disney movie to be accused of plagiarising a Japanese f
A compelling argument, but it is worth noting that both Nadia and Atlantis were inspired by the same source material, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea; Nadia even keeps the ship's name the Nautilus. Other differences include the Grandis mentioned is more Jessie from Team Rocket than Helga from Atlantis, and is not the first officer shown in the comparison picture. Nadia and Kida are probably the most similar elements between the two works, especially with the imagery related to the crystal. Still, there's a lot about Nadia's plot and characters that are significantly different from Atlantis, so I don't think this is on the same level as the Lion King/Kimba comparisons.

GentlemanX got a reaction from Big Panda in Which Sonic game compilation had the best aesthetic (logos, menu design, music, etc.)
I'd say it's a toss up between Mega Collection and Jam. Mega Collection's got a lot of classic music for it's menu themes and overall has a lot of care put into the presentation of everything it has in it - from manuals to the extras, etc. Gems Collection felt like a solid follow up to this, but felt just a little less unique. Jam on the other hand has Sonic World, which is just such a fun idea that it gets a lot of points. Mega Collection's aesthetic feels cleaner, but Jam is more ambitious.

It's just the difference between commercial times between North America and Japan, there's really nothing Adult Swim can do about it. The alternative would be to cut actual content from the episodes. I'd rather the full opens and closes could play too, but it's just how it goes.

GentlemanX got a reaction from Miraculous Milo in With the news that the Simpsons creators are removing the Jackson episode from circul
In situations like this, it is my personal opinion that the questionable material remain, with a disclaimer attached to reflect the change in attitude and context. I don't like expunging something from history, especially something that was a clear group effort. It is coming from their own team, and I respect their position, but I can't stand behind complete removal.

GentlemanX got a reaction from BlueSky in With all the hype and everything else, I'm honestly beginning to wonder if Smash Ult
I believe that too, it feels like Sakurai is doing everything in his power to make his last game the best it can possibly be; I think he's ready to be done with it for good. Could he change his mind? Maybe, wouldn't be the first time, but at this point things seem to point to this being his last.
Will there be another Smash game with or without Sakurai though? I'm 99% certain. The series is too popular, makes too much money, and will always have new content to add both from Nintendo's expansive history to the new titles that get released yearly. There's no way Nintendo will let Smash end, even if Sakurai is no longer in the picture.

GentlemanX got a reaction from Ferno in *learns that One Piece was taken off Toonami last year not because of poor ratings, b
It's not that the licensing costs for One Piece went up, it's just that the costs were already high and the show wasn't doing well enough to keep it around. It probably was one of the more expensive shows, but the issue was it couldn't do well in the more competitive slots like 11-1AM and therefore was airing at 2:30AM, but at the same time it still likely cost the same or close to the same as it did when it was airing earlier. That's a lot of money for a show that clearly struggles to find an audience. Not really arguing though, your post is on point that Toei expects too much out of One Piece given it's history stateside. Love the show to death, but I've long reconciled that it simply isn't as popular here as it is other places.

GentlemanX got a reaction from The Deleter in Alright I could not care less about K Rool in his previous games, but that Smash trai
I had the exact same thought. I've always liked K. Rool but he was very much a "Rare" character before. Ever since Donkey Kong Country Returns, Nintendo's been streamlining Donkey Kong's behavior and his world's tone to better match up with how they've envisioned the property. Watching K. Rool in this trailer opened my eyes as to why they've been straying away from the Kremlings and DK's extended cast - they just didn't fit the feel they've been wanting. But this is it, this K. Rool matches perfectly. He's no longer a pompous king that feels like a prototype for Gruntilda, he's a raw animal that just wants to beat the crap out of Donkey Kong because he feels like it. That's such a good fit for Donkey Kong.
