When I said Chao could be a racer back in February, I didn't think it would be in place of Cream. As with Egg Pawn, if not for the limited roster, I'd have no problem with Chao being playable and I like them being a feature in a game again. I would have preferred the Neutral Chao being a default with other skins of Hero/Dark/Omochao/Chaos etc. being available. Like how you can choose multiple colors of Yoshis or Shy Guys in Mario Kart 8.
I'll amend my earlier list so Team Future I'd speculate as Blaze (S), Cream (T), and Silver (P). The three do get grouped together a lot. Anyway, mixed on Chao leaning toward positive though I acknowledge there's plenty to be upset about. Awesome to see Big in, Amy wasn't in question.
Also, my girlfriend loves Chao and was ecstatic when I told her they were playable.

GentlemanX got a reaction from SpongicX in Would You Like To See The Avatar Return In Future Sonic Games?
I have no idea if I want to see the Avatar gameplay return as I haven't played Forces yet. Will do that very soon though, so we'll see what I make of that.
I don't mind the Avatars coming back in a different role though. Having it implemented sort of like the Chao in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 I think would be fine. Allow players to make their own character and use them in mini-games or something. I don't think I want the Avatar being a driving force of the story again though, as I thought it limited what Forces was able to tell quite a bit. A purely Avatar game like the spin-off people here are suggesting really doesn't appeal to me, so that's why I think putting it in a secondary mode is better. But if it was a spin-off, I wouldn't mind, I just wouldn't get it. So long as what happened with Rayman vs. Rabbids doesn't happen, I'd be okay with it existing alongside the main series.

Blaze's sidekick during Sonic Rush Adventure. She hasn't really appeared since, but was featured in two of the Sonic Channel 25th Anniversary comic strips and had a mii costume in some of the Mario & Sonic games. I think she's largely been replaced by Sticks though.

The Sega rep was a little wobbly early in the interview, but he does explicitly say they've revealed six characters, which supports the notion that Egg Pawn isn't playable. I'll echo Plasme's concerns about the AI though - the player won first place but only won the race by a single point. That's very worrying when it's clear there isn't a way to play this like a conventional racer. The team gimmick is decent in concept, but you've got to get the execution right.
It'd be really nice to have Sumo chime in on the game here soon.

Slowing that footage down, you can see all of the 14 Wisps in the item roulette.

Pretty standard fare. There's Boost, Rhythm, Lightning, Cube, Void, Laser, Drill, Bomb, Spikes, Rocket, Quake, Burst and Eagle. The only ones missing are Asteroid, Hover and Frenzy. However there is a new pale green Wisp that looks like a ghost or phantom of sorts. That's... kinda a little bit interesting I guess, maybe?

It looks like there's one or two other badniks in karts to the left and right of the Egg Pawn as well in that screenshot. Hard to tell at the moment if those (Egg Pawn included) are playable racers or moving "obstacles".
Honestly, the idea of an Egg Pawn being playable doesn't bother me on it's own; just if it's taking a slot in a limited roster. Hopefully the 15 is a base roster that leaves room for unlockables (preferable) or DLC (ugh to possible deal breaker).

I'd like to see Sally, Rotor, Antoine, Bunnie, and maybe Nicole in reduced roles as reoccurring characters like Knuckles, the Chaotix, Team Dark, Big, or the Babylon Rogues. Not main characters, but part of the extended cast. Preferably I'd like to see them mostly independent from one another, though with Nicole as Sally's computer like in SatAM (though with personality like in the Archie comic) while Antoine and Bunnie would be clearly attracted to one another while not married. I think having them married sort of forces them to be with each other to a point their individual characters suffer for it. It worked in the pre-reboot because of the community aspect of New Mobotropolis, but in post-reboot and especially a more Sega Sonic comic, it limits their personalities from really shining.
After them, probably Snively. I didn't enjoy seeing him as a GUN scientist in the post reboot, but I liked him being an independent evil scientist that occasionally worked with Eggman like he was in flashbacks. I think that would be a pretty good role for him, occasional butt monkey Eggman can threaten and other times as a sort of villain of the week.
I've always liked Chuck and would love to see him as Sonic's reoccurring mentor figure like Roshi is for Goku once becomes his equal. He doesn't need to be his biological uncle for that role, and having everyone call him "Uncle Chuck" seems like a nice fit. The series has a distinct lack of older hero characters.
Part of me wants Naugus just because he would be a nice reoccurring villain, but honestly the reboot kinda soured me on him. Pre-reboot he had a decent personality that improved on his SatAM counterpart, but post-reboot he felt very hollow. He's the SatAM character I'd like to see but be least disappointed with not having.
So... that's a lot of SatAM. Others...
I liked what post-reboot did with Breezie. If we could get that version back I wouldn't mind. Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts would be nice to have running around, but they honestly feel superfluous with the Hooligans, Babylon Rogues, Orbot & Cubot etc. existing. No one else from AOSTH really stands out. Except I demand Captain Memo and Lieutenant Bananas.
No characters from the OVA or Underground really appeal to me. From X, Bokkun could be fun, but only really in the specific role as Eggman's errand boy. I've always loved the character of Sam Speed and would love to see Sonic get his human rival back. If the series was allowed to explore outer space I'd like to see Cosmo and the Seedrians and the Metarex appear, but I don't need to see them become regulars or anything - much as I'd like to for Cosmo.
I like Chris. A lot. Having him appear would be awesome. *awaits tomatoes, bricks, and other projectiles*
From Boom, Sticks seems fairly obvious and I wouldn't mind her being incorporated into the extended cast. I'm also a big fan of Perci and Nominatus, so if they could show up I'd be happy. Apart from them - I'd be able to handle Dave and Zooey. That's as much love as the rest of Boom's cast can muster from me.
Comic wise, there's a slew of pre-reboot Archie characters I could name but given the state of those characters I don't really see a point. Post reboot, my favorites are Cassia and Clove, but given how tied they are to the Egg Bosses concept which I'm not a fan of, I think it'd be hard to bring them in while keeping what made them appealing to begin with. I liked the Desert Raiders trio (Spike, Sonar, and Trevor) and seeing them again would be cool. Razor and Crusher were a lot of fun. Fixit will always be hilarious (probably the best Knuckles' side kick character). I love Pane the Boar's design. Can I count Madonna? Would she technically be a Sega character? Regardless, she's awesome.
That leaves Fleetway. There are plenty of characters I could like to see reinvented: Johnny, Tenno, Porker, Ebony, Shortfuse, Morain & Errol, Plunder, Brutus, the Metallix, the Drakon. But ultimately I think all of them would need major changes to provide an interesting role in a more Sega Sonic continuity. Fleetway Sonic is just very much a product of the comics environment it was developed in, and the execution of many of its concepts would need to change to reflect the Sonic brand. (Off topic, but I've been curious. I know the Fleetway characters are owned by their respective creators. Where do Sally Acorn, Porker Lewis, and Johnny Lightfoot stand though? Shouldn't they all be Sega characters?)
But, that's all me kind of wishing as though Sega wouldn't but the kibosh on almost all of them like I know they would. A fun thought experiment though.

Largely the problem with Classic Sonic in Forces, at least on a conceptual level, stemmed from it essentially eclipsing Modern Sonic's gameplay like in Generations. People accepted that because of the 20th anniversary and the game's conceit as well as it's improvement over what was seen as a failure in Sonic 4.
If not for Mania, I think it's likely reception for Classic in Forces would have been seen more positively. You'd still have folks upset that Classic was taking up Sonic's screen time, but there would be people going "I'm glad to see Classic's gameplay hasn't been abandoned though." Mania does what Forces did but did it better, and not while taking screen time from his modern counterpart.
Take Shadow in Forces for instance. His being largely a skin for Modern was seen as a negative by some, but in general his inclusion in Forces was received much more positively than Classic. Reasons for this could be due to how long there had been since he was playable, the fact he had his own DLC story content, the fact he was entirely optional, the fact he played largely identical to boost Sonic, etc. It reinforces the argument fans want other characters to resemble the core game's gameplay while offering an optional alternative for further game time should they be inclined.

My view is that Modern Sonic's personality is largely the same now as it was in 1998 and not much has changed apart from giving him quirkier dialogue - which honestly his voice in Colors and Lost World resembles more what we'd see in AOSTH and SatAM. I think SA1/2, Unleashed, Forces, the Storybook games, and Sonic X have my preferred version of Sonic in this free spirit that just seeks adventure. For all the problems in Forces, I think they got Sonic's personality down pat as a descent compromise between how he's always been portrayed in the games prior to 2010 and the "dubisms" for lack of a better word that Pontaff has brought to the character.
As for his design, I think Classic and Modern can both accomplish the preferred attitude I described above, it just depends on how they're utilized. I can see where Naka was coming from - Sonic's design circa 1995-1997 was getting a little too pre-school looking judging by his artwork for say Sonic 3D and Sonic R. I think... erm, "Modern" Classic Sonic balances things out well, especially post Mania. Hesse has firmly established the emotional range of the character in Mania and Adventures, allowing both Sonics to embody the "cool attitude" the character was originally conceived with in mind.

GentlemanX got a reaction from Tarnish in Is the idea of Shadow getting his own game(done right) possible?
I wish Sega didn't decide to have Shadow emote less to not at all as time went on. I love how pompous he could get in SA2 and I miss that side to him.
Shadow does care, he just doesn't see the need to act like he does. I can see the tsundere comparison, but it's not quite that. Shadow doesn't shift personalities for one, he's flatly stoic whether he's helping or not. He's also likely aware he's not expressing himself, which goes against the usual trope. He's quiet and mission focused for the most part, not much more to it than that.
I don't think another Shadow solo title makes sense, there's really nothing Shadow can bring to the table on his own. I'd love to see a title similar to SA2 that shows an adventure from Sonic and Shadow's perspectives. Maybe give Shadow some combat moves that slows him down a bit while Sonic keeps the emphasis on high speed. Make them similar but distinct.

I don't think it's implying the whole game is like that, only addressing when "darker"/more serious window dressing is said to be out of place or contrary to Sonic's motif in those games.
I don't think Sonic should get as morose as ShTH and 06 could get. But I also don't like it when things have little to no conflict or stakes as say AOSTH (which I don't hate, just don't get excited about) or Boom (which I don't hate, just dislike).
Aside from some odd dub lines, I don't think Forces is too serious for Sonic. I don't think Mania or the classic games are too childish either. I see Sonic as an action adventure series with a sense of fun. Most Sonic media reflects that to me.

Theoretically as Sega owns Zooey. But unlike Sticks, the rest of Boom's original characters weren't designed by Sonic Team, making their use beyond Boom unlikely. In the same way Manic or Chris are technically owned by Sega and legally free to use, but Sega will likely mandate they can't be used beyond titles under the Underground, X,or Boom branding.
