GentlemanX got a reaction from MegasonicZX in Sonic Forces Development Speculation (Spoilers)
What you're looking for as far as "can fans do what Sonic Team can't" is taking a good fan engine and building good fan levels around it. Then proving consistently that you can do that over, and over, and over, and over, and over again.
For example, I like the look of this:
The Bumper Engine impresses me and I the level design is open and fun in my eyes. But even though I like it, I can't say this proves that whoever made the engine and whoever designed the level have proven they're worth Sega investing money toward. The level is short all things considered. The reuse of assets needs to be considered, perhaps even the reuse in music and models. It's also one level, it's not like some finished fan game like Sonic Megamix or Before the Sequel. You'd need a number of levels to actually be considered a functional game rather than a proof of concept.
It's good, but it's not "3D Mania" worthy. Which is the point.
I don't consider myself cynical about the idea though. I think 3D Sonic fan games will get to that point some day. It's just not going to be tomorrow or the day after.

Adeline was the character I most wanted in so I was really happy when she appeared in the datamine. I wasn't expecting Ribbon, so it's really cool that she's part of Adeline's moveset.

What about if Team Eggman was unlockable after the story mode instead? Like, the 15 they keep talking about is the base roster and you use the five set teams in set campaigns with cutscenes and stuff, and after finishing all those Eggman, Metal Sonic, and Egg Pawn; previously only NPCs in story mode, become available in free play.
Of course I'm just hypothesizing with no real proof 15 isn't the total number, but would that be more realistic than Team Eggman being in a bonus edition/DLC?

Because Wild is sort of a "Wild Card" team that didn't try to actually use characters that had to do with each other - Team Wild in Runners was Tikal, Sticks, and the Werehog. Nega was playable in Mario & Sonic 2016 and had a comic during the 25th Anniversary events on Sonic Channel. Sonic Team at least want to keep him in the public consciousness as much as Jet or Chaos.

GentlemanX got a reaction from Syntax Speedway in IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog
Sega sees there being a human world and an animal world in the games. I doubt it was decided when SA1 was released but likely was adopted at some point after the release of Sonic X. Sega are notorious about not providing material or information like that to third parties like Archie and likely IDW, which are given a lot of freedom so long as they don't directly fly in the face of their plans.
Archie was allowed a single world post-reboot because so long as it wasn't spelled out it didn't impact how the games portray the worlds. They weren't allowed to call the planet Mobius because Sega isn't using that term right now. Ian is likely going with two worlds because that's Sega's current stance on the matter and doesn't want to be forced to change things later.

I assume that they'd be available for purchase afterward as DLC. Like how Metal Sonic and the Out Run track were for Transformed.

GentlemanX got a reaction from Legendary Emerald in Seriously, why are Pontaff still writing for Sonic?
I think they're tamest localization has been Forces which, with some infamous exceptions aside, is mostly accurate to the Japanese script per Windii's awesome subs. Colors' script is a lot more liberal in the jokes, but there's just honestly not much to that game's plot beyond jokes - some of which such as Cubot's dialects needed to be changed for the international market to get the same effect.
Allegedly, Pontac and Graff had more creative control on the actual plot of Sonic Lost World, which I could definitely see given how out of character certain scenes are. While I don't like how the two write Sonic and Tails in that game, I do like how they get into the heads of the Zeti and think those sections where we see Zavok bounce off each of them are the highlights of the story. Now, how much influence they had over the Zeti's personalities is uncertain and how successful each character was in being likable on their own is questionable at best, but you can tell they can do good work if they feel like it.
If Lost World is an indicator of how they would do if they had more control over the plot, I'd say keep them off that. I enjoy what plots Sonic Team members come up with much more, Forces included. As for keeping them on script localization - eh, I can take it or leave it. I don't enjoy the brand of humor they seem to think is funny and overall I think they don't understand the characters in the same way I do, but it's not the end of the world or anything. I do think you'd have better dialogue if Ian or even Aaron was adapting the script rather than them though. I think both are funnier and know the characters better than Pontac and Graff do. As for a change in how the stories themselves are written, I'm in the camp that prefers things more serious than what we got in say Colors, but not as serious as 06. I wouldn't mind Toyoda giving another crack at the story, though if Shiro Maekawa or Hiroshi Miyamoto were available and willing I think I'd prefer one of them. I like their work on the Sonic series so it's hard for me to say I'd actively prefer a new direction from an outside writer. Could be good, could be not. I firmly believe Sonic Team wants to tell stories that I'll enjoy judging by Forces, so I'm not the audience asking for something like that.

Eitaro Toyoda. His early credits are as a level designer in stuff like SA2, Heroes, and ShTH but he's worked on various games after like Unleashed. He's been credited as "Sonic character supervisor" for Colors, Generations, and Mario & Sonic 2012 and 2014. His one other potential story credit was as "scenario supervisor" for Free Riders.

Again, I think most if not all the people that are upset with the Chao are due to the 15 slot roster. If this was like MK8D and the Chao were one of 42 characters, I don't think anyone would bat an eye (same for Egg Pawn).
It's been brought up how the character stats and balancing with the team dynamic makes that number impossible for Team Sonic Racing, so I'm not trying to imply TSR can actually do that. But still, even having half that (21) in the base game would alleviate these problems with regards to the regular reoccurring cast.

When I said Chao could be a racer back in February, I didn't think it would be in place of Cream. As with Egg Pawn, if not for the limited roster, I'd have no problem with Chao being playable and I like them being a feature in a game again. I would have preferred the Neutral Chao being a default with other skins of Hero/Dark/Omochao/Chaos etc. being available. Like how you can choose multiple colors of Yoshis or Shy Guys in Mario Kart 8.
I'll amend my earlier list so Team Future I'd speculate as Blaze (S), Cream (T), and Silver (P). The three do get grouped together a lot. Anyway, mixed on Chao leaning toward positive though I acknowledge there's plenty to be upset about. Awesome to see Big in, Amy wasn't in question.
Also, my girlfriend loves Chao and was ecstatic when I told her they were playable.
