  1. Hoshino specifically mentioned working with the Sonic studio in america to increase the number of fans back home in an interview. Wouldn't be surprised if Rangers' open world direction was directly influenced from games like BOTW and MH's casual/hardcore appeal.
  2. Man, I really need to know who writes these short stories. I'm in love with all the characterization and dynamics we're getting from them, and hopefully Sega is too so they can write for the games if they don't already. Shadow was great here, butting heads with Sonic but still trying to keep things professional. I also appreciate how he actually clarifies his motivations for continuing to protect humans as a general "I don't particularly like or dislike them at this point but if it's what Maria wants I'll protect them". Which to be fair, was pretty much what you could infer it to be anyway, but I like hearing it straight from him. And of course, I'm always a sucker for some good SA2 fanservice. I'll be kinda sad when they stop making these lol.
  3. It'd be cool if they incorporated more momentum physics into Knuckles' glide whenever they decide to let him be playable in 3D again. I'd imagine it being similar to the wing cap but less reliant on you constantly diving to gain any decent speed.

  4. Wow, Korone got through Big's story WAY faster then I thought she would lol.

To be fair its the shortest story of everyone, even more so if you know what you're doing that you can speedrun it in like 10 minutes. Its ironic but yeah it doesn't overstay its welcome inspite of everyone's complaints.

....Also Big is the only one who doesn't need any of his upgrades either. Jumping out of water is a huge jump so you can clear the Ice Cap overworld pool no problem and you don't need to enter any body of water to fish out Froggy. Just some speedrun strats.

Hoshino: Meanwhile in Japan, we’re working with the head office of the Sonic Studio in the United States, and our main objective is to create a bigger number of fans in Japan, one that could rival the fans in foreign countries. Also, we’re working closely with the movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 2”, please look forward to it.

This actually does line up pretty well with the open world concept considering how much Monster Hunter and Breath of the Wild sold in Japan, and Genshin Impact's crazy popularity. Assuming the leak is real, it seems like a good way to kick start a Sonic renaissance in his home country.

It's like how Sonic Adventure added RPG elements to appeal to the Japanese audience, and because of that, Adventure defines Sonic for Japanese fans more so than the classic trilogy.

Okay, on one hand, working to get more Japanese fans can only mean good things since we know their current opinions are pretty much the same as here in the west.

On the other, the last time SEGA worked closely with a western made Sonic media to the point of mandating... it didn't end well. The first movie felt better than most newer game stories, and I think the more "hands-off" approach is partially to thank.

Tbf the IDW comics are a pretty special case with everything surrounding it. I'd imagine for the movie it's more just the movie studio consulting them on certain creative decisions.

  6. Has anyone else had issues with the PC port of Lost World? I literally had to disable grass because the game kept crashing at Sky Road. In addition to the occasional stuttering and random freezing at specific points.

    1. Jango

It's terribly optimized. I had several issues due to the locked framerate and other stuff.

    2. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

      It's an incredibly shoddy port.

    3. The Master

      The Master

I had that yeah. It meant I couldn't beat Zavok at the end of Sky Road 6.

    4. Ryannumber1gamer

I didn’t run into that issue but I did have to fuck about with it for a bit to fix the resolution to 1080p.

  7. Soooo, I should probably give up on waiting for that 2d modern Sonic game, huh?

    1. JezMM

The new one might still be 90% 2D like half of modern Sonic games have been don't give up hope yet! 🙃

    2. Iko

I didn't give up yet but my hope is small and it gets smaller each day.

Regardless of the zippo rumors (which I don't care of), I still hope a 2D modern game in the style of the Advance games some day will come out... the Advance games have gained some nostalgia value and, by reading comments in various sites and communities I think that many would be open to that as long as it's good, some even suggested to let the mania team work on it (I'm not sure if I agree or not).

I think it's safe to assume Evening Star is working on the Sonic Origins collection, so yeah

Now that I thought about it, tee lopes music style really fits the advance games. He loves to use that brass in his music and the advance games soundtrack had a lot of brass.

  8. I've talked plenty of shit about Colors, but I will actually preorder Ultimate immediately if I find out they added the 2 acts + boss + side missions structure back.

    1. Marcello

What? They're gonna completely change the game...

    2. Jack-al

I wish for that too, but I doubt it, it'd be one big change from the original, the game would be extra shorter if that was the case, and it'd be okay if there is new content. We will see.

    3. Strickerx5

If some of the rumors are true I'll pre-order the thing. Though, I doubt they are because, like, why not show that stuff off in the initial reveal?

I mean, this is Sega, but really?

    4. Jack-al

I don't find it that weird, I found weirder stuff like showing outdated footage in the trailer (even though it usually happens), but Ninty did a similar thing with 3D World + Bowser's Fury, most of the new content was shown in-deph later.

Only here... we know about the new content, it's just via tweets and press, now yeah that is weird actually.

  9. All this talk about english VAs makes me really glad I started learning japanese and switched dubs lol.

  10. Oh god, adventure 3 is trending already. It's time to embrace the chaos once more.

  11. Damn, nobody told me Shadow's game was actually good lmao. I've been missing out all these years.

    1. VisionaryofSUPER

Moment to moment gameplay may seem fun enough, but wait until you take the bigger picture in.

Idk I'm on my last route to get the true story and so far I've really liked the level design and missions. Once I wrapped my head around the kinda game it wants to be everything started clicking for me.

It's still a linear obstacle course focus, but there's a lot more emphasis on combat and exploration. Which for me, works pretty well.

    3. PublicEnemy1

      I said the same thing.

Then I played through Westopolis 10 fucking times just to get to the true ending.

  12. Wow, I did not realize how much worse Shadow's game controls then every Heroes team formation lmao. This constant inching around or instantly accelerate to mach 5 shit is really obnoxious.

    1. Wraith

It controls worse, but the game relies less on smaller platforms so it kind of evens out for me.

    2. Dejimon11

The rail grinding is the best in the series

    3. Zaysho

I honestly thought Shadow felt better than Heroes

    4. Cuz

Every grind system after SA2 never felt right to me.

    5. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

@Dejimon11 Is it really tough? You had decent rail switching, but it was just mash the action button to accelerate. There was no reason to balance.

I'm not sure how well Shadow controls in comparison to Heroes. They're similar, and neither controls particularly well. Where Shadow wins out is what Wrath said about the level design. The controls of Shadow are much better in relation to how the levels are laid out. They're unwieldy, and that's kind of okay when you have large, flat roads and platforms with enclosed edges. Heroes is all highways in the sky, so it's not suited to its own controls.

    6. StaticMania

Shadow controls better...in that acceleration isn't completely maxed out, but while I would say it's subjective...it's just not significant enough to be anything other than people just seeing what they want if they say either is actually different.

    7. Soniman

Shadow controls way worse to me. At least Heroes had two other slower control formations you could instantly switch to if the acceleration was to much whereas Shadow is all you have AND the levels are less linear and require sharper turns that the controls are not built for (and most of them are still the highway in the sky layout anyway). I definitely don't see how it's better at all but it's a subjective thing

  13. I think the world is finally ready for Sonic 4: Episode 3

    1. Cuz

One we cross Episode 4 will we have made a whole and finally move on to Sonic 5? 😛

  14. https://dizzydennis.tumblr.com/post/651771149510983680/sonic-x-metal-sonic-cover-story-translator-note The story for the Metal Sonic calendar's been translated! I've always liked the idea of his drive to beat Sonic making him more "organic" by having him experience emotions, and their race was a fun read. Also the chaos emeralds are apparently back to normal in this one? Unless they already were and I just forgot lol.
  15. "Thanks to my insiders, I know that Shiro Maekawa is writing the next game's story, with Ian Flynn translating the script." Ok, come on even Zippo wasn't that crazy lmao.
