I've said it once and I'll say it until the end of time: Helen should've been the main human character.
A handicapped girl being able to go on adventures and see the world with Sonic and friends is just an infinitely better premise. I can just imagine all the wholesome goodness that would come with it! Also how much more sense would it of been for her to remind Shadow of Maria instead of Chris? Its such a shame she was hardly in the show and only got one episode focused on her. Though in that episode the chemistry with Sonic and Helen was much more real and believable; I never got the vibe that Sonic truly liked being with Chris despite the show trying to tell the contrary. So yeah, even though I liked X overall, Helen being a main character would've been a HUGE step up for the show.
(Also I always loved that she seemed to wear the pants in her relationship with Chris when they got older, and that she was a better driver than him too lol)

Helen was one of the few elements of Sonic X that I felt was handled extremely tactfully because at no point did it attempt to get the audience to pity her just for being stuck in a wheelchair. Her handicap was simply one part of her character and not the source of her conflict in her starring episode. It's really a shame that she had no significant appearances beyond that.

Yep, I 100% agree with that, Helen could have created better contrast with Sonic, and it could have helped explore even more the character of Sonic, especially his softer side. I don't exactly remember how were her parents (if they were ever shown), but they could have made a contrast with the freedom of Sonic by making them a tad overprotective (and it wouldn't make them asshole-ish if done right, as we would be able to understand why they would be afraid for her). And just wholesome stuff like Tails adapting the Tornado than she can fly with them, etc, would have been nice.
And with her personality, I feel that the bonding with Tails, Amy and Cream would have been nicer too, and as she don't have a whole cast of supporting character already, it would have been interesting to see how her personnality is influenced by bouncing with those wacky, fun heroes. And as you said, the relationship with Shadow could have been way more interesting because of their similarity, with Shadow having to understand that he won't get back the friendship he got with Maria, but would be able to grow a new one that would be important too. (and it would have been a nice interesting twist to the whole "Maria" deal).

I feel like The whole "Sonic kissed a human" is very overblown in the internet
Did anyone care when planet of the ape had a Human and a female anthro ape kiss? Or the interspecies stuff in many  scifi Fiction?

Yet people act like 2006 was the only time in all of fiction where an anthro and a human kissed

You know, having humans walking around basically makes Sonic and his friends more special while making Eggman that much more impressive.

...and making them animals would help somehow? That's more down to how they're written than anything. It's not like making them anthros in Forces did much - they were arguably even more generic there. At least Unleashed's humans had character.

There was that episode Hedgehog Hunt, where he threatens Team Sonic and the Chaotix about a Metarex fleet surrounding the planet they're hiding on. Only to use his own Egg Crimson disguised as the Blue Typhoon to take the fall for them. This even gets his lackeys frustrated; why does he want to both destroy and protect Sonic? He never even brings this up in future episodes to wipe in their faces or anything. Who does that?
    The Eggman does.

(It always bugged me how Sonic AND Vector kind of knew about this, but never told anyone else; unless it was a dub thing.)

Yeah, I loved episode 71. I'm honestly shocked I forgot to list it in my original post, because of all the Sonic X episodes, that one is the "starring Eggman" story. It focuses on Eggman as the central character and revolves around his internal conflict and his decision to ultimately come to Sonic's aid.
And the way they do it, with Eggman helping Sonic while still overtly acting as his enemy the entire time, was beautiful. I also love the somber little bit at the end, when an injured Eggman - shrugging off a massive ship crash with little more than a busted arm - orders a drink from Vector's bar, and the two of them share a knowing moment as Vector plays a soothing piano melody and Eggman takes a drink.
Nah, that was true even in the original. The episode even ends with Sonic quietly saying "Thank you, Dr. Eggman" as his crewmates remain oblivious that Eggman helped them.

I think I remember reading somewhere that SoA didn't think Classic Eggman looked evil and/or ugly enough for a Western audience. So that's where the AoStH and SatAM designs came in. The "West-ification" of the Classic design always gave me Yosemite Sam vibes:

Whether it be rabbits or hedgehogs, they're always out to get 'em!
Personally, I would've been fine with just this look during Eggman's early years in the West; as opposed to the AoStH and SatAM designs.

I should've clarified that the exaggerated expressions were what gave off a Ren & Stimpy vibe for me. Particularly how he smiles after "meow?", when he's screaming, and after he faints. That's definitely not a style we'd ever see Sega roll with in modern stuff.

    Not really?
Knuckles is gullible, not dumb. There's a major distinction between those two personality traits, and it's one that SEGA has mixed up for years since the shift to a more comedic tone.
Case and point, Knuckles in S3&K and SA1/2 didn't display any qualities of "dumb", or hell, even in the former - didn't display any qualities of gullible. He'd never met Eggman before and had been so isolated for all of his life that it made sense why he believed Eggman hook line and sinker, especially since in that situation, Eggman was shot down onto the island and easily could've bullshitted a story about Sonic unjustly attacking him for the Chaos Emeralds.
Throughout the rest of the game, Knuckles is constantly one step ahead of Sonic, throwing him through trap after trap, constantly playing the island against him, and acting far more like a trickster than anything else. If Knuckles being dumb was such a core element of his character, he sure as hell wouldn't be using the island, and it's various traps so much against Sonic instead of just running straight after him to get into a brawl.
Even in later games, when Knuckles did start getting more gullible (Adventure, and X in particular), the former didn't have the greatest story telling and likely just wanted to concoct a nonsense reason to get Knuckles engaged into the story, while the latter is portrayed as a paranoid nut who likes to shift blame onto Sonic whenever he could. Advance also had a really weird aspect that's still debated if Knuckles was helping Eggman, or if Knuckles was trapped inside an Eggman mech, but since it's a GBA game, it's never explained.
Hell, Adventure shows off Knuckles' duty as guardian, and other personality traits much more than gullible or dumb. He smashes the master emerald in a quick moment of thinking to stop Eggman from abusing it's power, stopping both Eggman and Rouge from stealing it then and there, Adventure plays up a lot more of his serious side, while adding in different aspects of goofy (his borderline fear of ghosts), and even keeping in some aspects of him being dim-witted that didn't make him look out and out stupid (Sonic basically tricking him into getting the keys to Eggman's base by using Knuckles' ego to his advantage).
Knuckles being dumb is only a thing that really began becoming evident in recent years when let's face it - a ton of characters faced flanderisation and began getting written worse. Knuckles isn't the only victim, and I'd argue that both him and Tails were the ones affected most by the change. In the games, a lot of Knuckles' other personality traits have been erased to make way for him simply being stupid. Treasure Hunting isn't mentioned anymore, his duty as guardian is almost non-existent unless it's being used as a joke for how dumb Knuckles is for giving it away when in the past, he'd actually fiercely protect it, and until Mania and Forces, his appearances in the games was heavily limited to just sight gags, especially in Lost World. Boom especially - despite having tons of fun moments for Knuckles is possibly the most out of character and missing of the point depiction of him, and despite being a fun character in that series - is IMO about as in name only as you can get to his prior characterisation.
This is also why you'll find Mania, Mania Adventures, Archie, and IDW getting a lot of praise. Because they still play around with the aspects of Knuckles being dim-witted or gullible without making him full on stupid, or removing the rest of his personality traits. Mania still depicts him as fiercely protective of his duty, and also a massive power-house, capable of one-shotting Super Metal Sonic in Mania Adventures, but it also portrays Knuckles not only as goofy, and careless, but it makes him super paranoid, which works well-enough with his previously defined traits. It stops him from being outright dumb, but just makes it so that he distrusts basically everything.
Mega Drive also took a different approach. That still made him gullible, but it also added the fact that Knuckles is also super egotistical and too confident in his own abilities, which makes sense for why he clashes with Sonic personality wise, because of the fact Sonic himself is also quite egotistical. Knuckles also quickly joins up with Sonic in Mega Drive after everything is cleared up between them.
Archie and IDW are probably the best examples because in both of those, Knuckles is portrayed as a combination of everything. He is portrayed correctly in the fact that he's not dumb, he's gullible. He is still a immensely powerful character who has a strong sense of duty, to the point he was willing to fight Shadow to a stand-still to stop Shadow and G.U.N from trying to hijack the Master Emerald for their own needs.
A lot of his other traits are still shown, including mentions of him still being a treasure hunter, and his ego coming into play, especially when Sonic and Knuckles begin teasing each other. Knuckles even mentions in Issue 3 of IDW that after Eggman fell, the Resistance basically just became a bunch of busy-work that he's not good with, and he'd rather be leading the action. So it still shows that Knuckles still isn't smart, or interested in doing all of the busy work that requires rebuilding after Eggman's taking over the world, but he's still portrayed as having decent enough intelligence.
As I said at the beginning, it's a fine line of working with it, there's different kinds of intelligence, there's different personality traits, etc. The worst depictions is usually when they ignore all of the other aspects of the character to just pretend he's just completely dumb, when that's only really been a thing that's happen in the last ten years, and even that's due to downright flanderisation, which affected other characters as well.

I feel like I’m one of the few people who didn’t mind how Sonic was portrayed. He’s a bit of an egomaniac to begin with, sure, but him not being able to properly mentor KO made sense to me (Sonic in general has always just been a character that “does” things, let it be spindash, or even Chaos Control, it makes sense he can’t properly describe how he does it), and it let Tails have a mentor role which he never gets to do.
But in the end, despite his ego, Sonic still acted as heroically as ever. The key difference to me is that he still backs up the stories told about him. He immediately tries to save KO when he’s robotised, still keeps the banter, and has a heart to heart with Tails to reassure him that no one can ever take away their friendship, and he’d never replace him. Sonic can be a jerk and still be likeable, that’s the point I see here at least.
The one thing I’d say I disliked was Knuckles. I loved seeing him get a mention, complete with his Mega Drive goofball art, but it stung when they made the comment that the master emerald wasn’t stolen, but rather Knuckles was tricked with a really dumb ploy. It’s the one major part of gross mischaracterisation in this IMO.
Like I get that Knuckles is gullible, but the dude also still abides by his duty and isn’t that stupid. The one key fact about Knuckles beyond being gullible is the fact he won’t willingly give up the Master Emerald. This is the same dude who’d rather shatter it into pieces and recollect it than let it fall into anyone’s hands. If he wasn’t gonna let Rouge have it for a jewel collection, he sure as shit wouldn’t be tricked into handing it over to some random stranger with a stupid story.
The references in the episode were all top notch though, the OVA ending recreation and especially the Sonic Says had me in stitches.

I always thought Elias Acorn was a neat and likable character.

Going from a conflicted prince who runs away from his responsibilities, marries and starts a family with a commoner, eventually his wife convinces him to return to Knothole where he stops Sally from marrying Antoine's evil doppelganger, and becomes the new king; often going out on the front lines with the Freedom Fighters. At least his arc made sense compared to his sister's, whom I'll never really get why she's such a fan favorite; she made Sonic's apparent death after #125 about HER for pete's sake...

I rarely get interested in modern CN shows, but K.O. is a love letter to gamers, animation lovers, 90s kids, etc. Highly recommend for those who haven't watched it!
Also I was probably just hearing things, but Sonic's grunt after he lands reminded me of when you select Super Sonic in SA1. Could it be possible for Mr. Drummond to return even for this one ep?? Probably not, but stranger things have happened...

Ian Jones-Quartey is a biiiiig Sonic fan. He mourned the loss of Archie Sonic, follows a lot of people associated with Sonic, he worked on the opening to Sonic Mania, and this is not OK KO’s first reference to Sonic, and more. The OK KO crew have also said that they are all Sonic fans, so this is a dream come true for the show.
You get evidence of all of that and more in just that clip. Like, the pure unadulterated love for Sonic shines through here. This isn’t some corporate crossover, but very clearly a labour of love that SEGA granted.
