The Mario universe has actually really interesting characters to choose from. Pauline, Captain Syrup, Dixie Kong, King K. Rool, Kamek, Prof. E. Gadd. Heck, they even can have soem fun and put in some non Mario characters like they did with Mario Kart 8. How about having Link, Zelda, Inkling, Fox or Olimar as guest characters?

There are a few things I can tell that are good about Sonic Forces.
    1. The concept of creating your own character is actually a really cool idea and something that is a huge part of the Sonic fandom.
    2. Some of the soundtracks, but mostly the ones for the avatar character, are really catchy.
Yeah.... those are so far the only positives things I can say about this game. For the rest we have to wait until November.

Maybe even the worst. She has no background, no backstory, we never found out how Sonic and the other met he rin this universe, she has no real chemistry with anybody besides maybe Amy and her personally goes no further than been crazy and paranoid. Even, I can not believe I'm saying this, but even Princess Elise is a way better written character than her.

Really? You think? Mario I can understand but Sonic Forces feels like one of the safest games they ever created. They threw in all the beloved Sonic characters in the story, - Blaze for some reason, they made Shadow - the most recommended modern character by fans playable again - even thought it was just a free DLC, they brought the most beloved bosses and rivals + Zavok back - even thought you only fought two of them, they brought the boost gameplay back and the Wisps, the most well received gameplay styles in the last years, they created a new badass edgy villain, most of the stages are 2D, they try to tell a more serious story, they made Classic Sonic playable again - because that make a game automatically great, right? etc.
I personally can not see how Forces can be seen as a step outside of Sega's confront zone? Forces was for me personally the most less-risky game they ever made. The only real thing Forces has is the Avatar.

Wow... if this is the truth, than something did really went wrong in the production of Sonic Forces. Even more with Sonic 06. Either that Or Sega really just do not care about their flagship series an their fans anymore.

If we really have to sacrifice all the other great Sega characters and let the All-Stars series become another Sonic series, than I really hope that at least they will go deep into this series and choose some really unusual tracks and characters. No more lazy nostalgia pandering. I'm sick of seeing Green Hill! I'm sick of seeing Chemical Plant! I also do not want to see any recycled levels from the last past 6 years returning once again. No Casino Night, Sky Sanctuary, Seaside Hill, City Escape or Speed Highway! No Windy Hill, Desert Ruins or Frozen Factory! Non of those uninspired levels from Forces so that you can save some money Sega!
Dig deep into this series an pick some very unusual levels for tracks. And not only from the main series. Pick also some from the spinoff games like Sonic & the Secret Rings, Sonic and the Black Knight, Riders, Sonic Rush, Sonic Chronicles etc.
Also, when it comes to characters, do not just pick the main series gang. Because we have seen them to death to this point. One reason, why Mario and Crash Bandicoot characters are so much more appealing to look at is because unlike Sonic characters they are designed and also animated differently. Mario looks and acts nothing like Peach and Crash is animated and designed very differently to Cortex. The usual characters from Sonic are just way to similar to each other. I mean look at Forces! All of Sonic's friends had pretty much the same role and same animation style!
I want to see some of the very unusual characters. Now that Ulala, Nights, Beat, Alex Kidd and the rest are gone, we need to fill this gab with some of the more unique characters Sonic has to offer. Like the Deadly Six, Chip, Maria, Merlina, Shahra, an orca, those three ghosts from Night of the Werehog, Prof. Pickles, Erazor Djinn fuck! Even Princess Elise or Chris Thorndyke sound for me way more interesting than such bores like Sticks, Jet, Wave, Storm, Espio, Vector, Classic Sonic, Infinite etc.

In my case, I'm just simply tired of Forces. It has been nearly 2 years since the game was announced, and now the new IDW comics will be branching off from them? Regardless of the game's quality, regardless of how official or unofficial the Forces lore will be with the comics, it's tiring to see more of Forces again.
There's also a problem of contradictions. For the last year, all we have heard from SEGA and IDW is that "this is a new direction". These comics will be "new". "New new new". So what is our first look at the comics? An official/unofficial/whatever continuation of the Forces story. That's not new. Sure, there's a few new characters. But nothing else. I'm not really getting a "new" vibe here. I get that this is the start of the IDW comics, but when your PR for the last year is "this will be new" and nothing else, then yes, that's incentive to feel that the comics will be starting off fresh. But simply riding off of Forces isn't fresh at all. Archie Sonic lore frequently used the games for their stories. Sure, it's technically post-Forces here, but it's still Forces. You're using its story, which has already been dragged out across two games, a mobile title and a comic, to drag it out even further.
Forces is out now. It's done. I'd like to move forward from that now.

Swing got a reaction from Jack out of the comics! in Popular and unpopular Sonic opinions you agree and disagree with!
Popular opinion: I do not think that Infinite is a good villain. His design looks just way to cheap, like an oc on Deviantart, his backstory is one of the most laughable I have ever seen in a video game: "Yeah, Shadow was more edgier than me. Now I have to kill all the people on this planet to proof I'm the edgiest Edgehog around! He wasn't a challenging boss character, his boss battles are really uninspired. He is overall a very bland, poorly written character.

This will be such a boring game. Even the tracks will probably just rehashes once again. Unless they go the Riders route and just create new race tracks. But I highly doubt that their will take inspirations from Secret Rings, Black Knight, Chronicles or some of the more unknown levels from Unleashed like Jungle Joy Ride. I'm sick and tired of Green Hill.... so tired. Chemical Plant will be probably also reused once again. I'm sick of it.
After all the Nostalgia pandering over the last 6 years I highly doubt they will ever, ever go back to the more risky ideas they had over the year. Just play it safe. Play it safe because, yeah, remember how good Sonic was? Remember Green Hill? Remember City Escape?

Swing got a reaction from RedFox99 in How would you rewrite Sonic X?
There are a lot of things that are wrong with Sonic X. The biggest issue I had with Sonic X is, that I really do not get Chris' big deal at the end of the second season. Okay, he is lonely and unhappy. But I really do not buy it. His parents were not perfect, but they really did anything for him, even left work, when they heard he was in trouble. Also, how is he lonely when he had three really good friends with Helen, Danny and Frances? What about them? It really doesn't made any sense that he is so unhappy? For me, he felt more like an obsessed Sonic Fanboy that can not live with out Sonic.
If the lonely part should make sense, I would have written out Helen, Danny and Frances and would have made his family more unlikable.

It is very upsetting that other Sega Ips feel like they're getting the shaft for something Sonic only. Though the complaint about a lack of variety of characters is sound with having Classic and Boom versions filling up the roster. I do think the other end of the spectrum is possible too with having a very limited roster for chars/stages (5 to 6 each) and hide the rest behind a DLC paywall even for guest chars/Ips, not just Sonic.
Heck, if Sega stupidly think they could get away with Super Sonic as payable DLC for Sonic Forces, anything can happen at this point honestly. Even if Shadow was free, he was still DLC content as well. Sure, this is Sumo we're talking about but Sega's big thumb is still in the pie regardless.

A Sonic-only kart racer would be lame as hell. With the exception of Sonic Drift, all of Sonic's racing games, good or bad, have tried doing their own unique thing to set them apart from other racers, from the on-foot platforming of Sonic R and Rivals to hoverboard racing in Riders. The kart formula suited the crossover nature of the All-Stars games pretty well, but I don't think it can sustain a Sonic-only cast and maintain the appeal of the previous two games anymore than a Super Smash Bros. featuring only Fire Emblem Mario characters could. If this is true, I couldn't care less.

    It's lame, man.
I can see Sonic's world in HD all the time. I can play new games with him all the time. I can see Sonic's friends all the time. I can play with them all the time. I can read new comics with him soon. I could watch a TV Show with him that ended just a little while ago.
This series was the one series where I could experience old Sega Worlds in new visuals, see old favorites I haven't seen in forever, get to know new ones. Give the series an amazing variation of tracks and music in all kind of different styles. They honestly didn't even scrape the bottom of the barrell with the potential of franchises Sega has, and now chances are high they abandone the concept alltogether.
Will it probably be fun? It's Sumo, of course it will. Would I enjoy it? If it's anything like the first two, sure.
Is this still an absolutely immense waste of potential if the whole Sega angle is dropped? Yes. And that bums me out.

It can, and then you’d probably be laughed at. Unlike with Sonic’s cast, where most folks (particularly outside the Sonic bubble) would agree with you.
For Sonic’s cast, most of the appeal they can give only comes when you’re already deep into the series as a fan. Whereas something like Opa-Opa - he’s just charming innit. I didn’t need to know the insane backstory he has in the Fantasy Zone series to love him in ASR and I recall many others who were amused by him likewise - and that was well before I got more into SEGA’s non-Sonic ventures. Same with AGES in ASRT. Also helps that the “naff SEGA characters” at least came from actually good games, whereas half of Sonic’s cohort are now synonymous with trash - especially right after Forces.

I get upset just imagining the reveal trailer showing Sonic and co. driving on not-Green Hill/Windy Hill, shouting one liners... Sigh.
I really wanna be proven wrong tho'. If it is a Sonic-only racer, at least give us different zones. Imagine if they pick Studiopolis or Press Garden? Or Launch Base, Egg Fleet, Final Rush... That would be truly amazing. But I fear for the worst, which is a concern: Same. Tired. Zones. Again.

My big gripe with this if it turns out to be true is that the SEGA characters not only bring more variety to the characters roosters, but also to the stages included.
I'm honestly tired of seeing old Sonic locales return, or be reimagined, we've done this song and dance hundreds of times.
Also, what stages do you think they'd pick if this is a Sonic only game.
Lost World from SA1? Hang Castle/Mystic Mansion from Heroes? Starlight Zone? Ice Cap?
No, it's gonna be Green Hill, Chemical Plant, City (what a nice name btw) from Forces, Death Egg, Seaside Hill!
It's not like I'm a huge Skies of Arcadia fan, but seeing those characters and stages in ASRT made me smile for instance. And the same happened with all the other franchises.
EDIT: It looks like I'm negative about this game from this post, but I'm not, I'm just a bit disappointed. I'm sure it'll play great and it'll be lots of fun, I can't wait for the announcement and the actual release. I'm excited!

If this ends up being true, I’ll be disappointed and perhaps less interested in the game even.
I’m sure it’ll be a very good game, I mean this is Sumo Digital we’re talking about! My problem is that they’re getting rid of something that made these All Stars Games so special, and that is the brilliant celebration of Sega’s past. It was nice seeing all these characters and stages and hearing remixes of games from Sega’s good ol’ days, and now with the acquisition of Atlus they could’ve added a character or two from Persona! Or even a stage!!
What’s funny is I’m saying this as someone who was never a big Sega fan to begin with, hell I only knew of these franchises in 2004-2005, but it was nice being introduced to them and going back and trying out some of these games like NiGHTS and Jet Set Radio. Now that it’s seemingly focusing on just Sonic & Friends, I’m definitely not as excited. Again, im sure it’ll be fine but...I wanted the (mostly) abandoned Sega cast back. 8(

Big reminder that having other SEGA IPs in the play, gave us not only racers, but tracks, music styles and aesthetics, my children.
How else would've we got an awesome stage from Burning Rangers? I didn't knew about this game, but I loved the aesthetics, the music. What's not to like, tho'? This goes to the people saying "but people didn't even knew who those old characters are!". So you wanna live in a box? You're not open to knowing something new? What a closed minded point of view... It's sad.
I saw more people recognizing the old SEGA IPs in All-Stars Racing than I know I will ever see recognizing Blaze the Cat, for example. Do you know how folks will remember Blaze? "Aw, she is the cat from those awfull Sonic games they played on GameGrumps!". I've never heard the term "Shadow kid" or "Blaze kid", but I'm sure as heck hear "SEGA kid" all the time. The old SEGA IPs are popular, guys.
And again, diversity is great, 'member when people complained that the PlayStation All-Stars cast was all "angry white dudes"? It's the same thing.

If they're interested in the Japanese market, throwing in Sakura Wars characters will double sales over there.
I'm surprised they haven't so far. Of course most of us in the west will only raise a confused eyebrow.
I suppose Sonic Sega all stars games never seemed to be made with Japan in mind, considering I read rumors Japanese fans had to import the first game.
Still, if I was Sega, I'd definitly throw in a Persona or Yakuza character in there at least. Those finally seem to be gaining traction in the west, while still bringing in the Japanese crowd.

Dunno if I really care about a Sonic only racer. Generations, Lego Dimensions and especially Forces and Mania's detached Meta aproach to just throwing in random locations and characters on a pile with little to no Story context completely cheaped the thrill of seeing Sonic's past return. I want the real characters and locations to matter, not another parade of meaningless fanservice. At least seeing old Sega characters get some time in the limelight still has a bit of a thrill.
I suppose if it's a on-foot Sonic R style Racer I'll be interested in it in terms of gameplay, but if it's just a generic fanservice driven Kart racer, then eh. Just give me Sega Fanservice then.

No they're not, they're really not, that's only the case for people who have an interest in Sonic or a very wide interest in gaming and I have first hand and second hand accounts of this.
Back when Svend used to work for Sprong, he once had to write up an article on a Sonic game, I think was either Riders or Shadows game. In that article he opened with a line which went along the following lines "My editor looked at what I'd written and said, 'you can tell you're a Sonic fan, you know who these characters are.'
I myself, have had stalls at conventions selling Sonic stuff, I've taken loads of Sonic items which are of the wider cast, every time I do, I get loads of people saying 'who is that?' once someone did it to an item with Chaos on it and I said "It's Chaos, from Sonic Adventure" the reply was 'Never heard of him.'

Don't be daft... They're the same people.

    Nobody is saying that.
The argument is that the roster would be much stronger if it was another all stars game because most Sonic characters after the core 4 or 5 are very naff.

Because it's coming off the back of a popular series from the same devs that involved both Sonic characters and SEGA characters, hence the disappointment that it's not a successor to that game.
