I wouldn't mind Schwartz replacing Smith as the offical voice actor of Sonic. He was a welcome refreshment and imo fits Sonic a lot better.

Hot take but everything I find wrong with Sonic's personality and writing can be summarized in Sonic Unleashed's later scene where Chip goes on about how Sonic is such a nice guy and that's why darkness doesn't affect him or some nonsense in that general area of flat character tropes.
    Such a boring, boring character.

With Sonic's personality, it's because he's written as an energetic, lonely kid who's just made a friend. That is inherently more interesting and relatable than the way Modern Sonic has been portrayed in the past ten years: wisecracking, punny nice guy.

I prefer to sum it up as someone I can enjoy seeing instead of someone I want to repeatedly punch in the face over and over again.

I think that's a bit of a cop out there. We should be trying to make more characters fleshed out. I'm not saying everyone has to have as much of a backstory as Shadow, but so many characters either are bland, have barely anything worth of note about them, or just plain suck. They need more to them. Shadow doesn't need any solo stories because he's strong enough as is. If we don't help those who need it, we just end up with a bunch of half baked characters and a few good ones.
As I said above I don't think everyone needs to have that much information, but I don't think having only a few characters in a comic series really have anything worth of depth is a good idea either. We should aim to give more to those in need, not build on a foundation that is already strong as is.
Blaze definitely who we barely know jack shit about her world and her princess title barely means anything, so we should do something about that for instance. Rouge is someone who we don't know much about but has had all the potential ideas to flesh out beyond sometimes steals shit and vaguely may do an agent thing once in a while. Starline obviously with being a new character/villain we don't know much about. Amy and Tails fall into the same helps because they like Sonic, and really don't have any personal self desires and drives that aren't Sonic. The Deadly Six who I hate very much but if they could make them good, they'd be a good rogues gallery addition instead of a shit one. Rough n Tumble for the same reason as Starline as well as strengthening the rogues gallery. The Chaotix keep being used surprisingly in the comic so far and none of them outside of maybe Vector really isn't all the interesting or fleshed out. Though that's the top off my head.

I'm honestly kind of shocked by just how badly this entire direct was handled. In no short time, we had
Sakurai basically admitting he knew what the reaction would be by trying to remind everyone to keep calm and not be too disappointed when he announced the character Sakurai building it up as something super cool that even Nintendo didn't know who it was The character is a rep from one of the most over-represented franchises in the entire series The character is another sword-user on top of that The character completely breaking the chain of DLC fighters we had so far by not being from a new franchise, nor being a third party The mii costumes being more exciting than the character we got Sakurai unveils this in the same direct where he talks about Smash not being a fighting game, but rather a celebration of gaming, in the same direct with one of the most disappointing fighters to date The final fighter of FP1 being a first party from a series who has too many reps as is. Sakurai suggesting buying the second Fighter Pass, right after unveiling the most disappointing character thus far  Sakurai stating the content of FP2 is already decided, but giving zero hints as to what any of the characters might be, instead, just throwing a Zelda BOTW costume in as incentive to buy the pass. Like, I genuinely think this might be the worst Smash direct to date, personally. It's to the point I don't know why they didn't swap Banjo and Bylith's positions. I love Banjo, and I'm happy we've had him since September, but in terms of context, Bylith wouldn't be so badly received if he/she was at least shown as the "middle of the road" part of the fighter pass. I'd imagine there'd still be disappointment, but not quite as much.
Banjo on the other hand would not only have been a massive shock for the finale of the pass, but on top of that, it fits perfectly with Sakurai's context of this being a celebration of gaming, as well as being "secret" to a large chunk of Nintendo, since only the higher ups would know about arranging a deal with Microsoft about the character. In terms of impact, Joker is the perfect starting point, while Banjo is the perfect finale, since he represents Microsoft and Nintendo making a deal and the point we might see characters from other major gaming publishers join Smash.

While Shadow is undoubtedly designed to be a fleshed out and depthful character, I don't think he really needs any more focus than he already has. Like said, we know more about him than literally any character, bar none. I don't think it's asking too much for the series to dedicate some time to the rest of the supporting cast. Surely not to the extent of Shadow, but something is better than nothing.
Saying "oh they're designed to be simple so they don't need to be fleshed out" is a huge cop out, and it doesn't even bother to try. Even supposed main characters like Tails, Amy, and Knuckles aren't really fleshed out that much outside of their relationship to Sonic, the main character.
It feels extremely limiting for a narrative to just have one majorly fleshed out character and the rest of them are just...two-dimensional at best.

Honestly it only feels really long because of all the delays n shit. Because of the schedule being all over the place things take longer and the pace slows and suffers. It's reminding me of webcomics but at least we get full chapters rather than a couple pages or so a week with slow as hell pacing that way.

Honestly at this point I am very tired of the constant "leaks" that keep happening. It's just like back and forth between "not happening" and "is happening", arguments over whether the leaker has a good rep or not, etc.
It's pretty much all on Twitter. I hope the new character gets announced soon.

They do....and eventually let them be permanent, but it's much easier to get them during the event. I missed the Link's awakening event way back and regretted not doing it immediately. I eventually got lucky when it became a normal drop, but it was much faster following events. If you're a spirit collector, don't wait. Just do it right away. It'll up to an hour or two depending on luck.

2014-2017. The era about Boom and just before Neo Classic Sonic age. Was my living hell for the Sonic series. Everything it stood for then I hated, and everything I liked was mocked for being bad. Was about to fuck off this franchise til Sonic Mania reminded me to care again.

To be honest it's not that bad. It's ok. I can say I already like this Sonic more than the current one/Boom. He's still got his wit, even if childish, but he's just so happy to be here and excited. So excited he has a hard time not moving. It's great. So much better than sarcastic deadpan cynical snoozefest he has become lately. I want to see him. I want to see him explore. I love seeing the world through the eyes of someone passionate and wide eyed, and even then not always impressed so he's not just giddy for everything. Some things are awesome and some things are lame, but he's positive enough that there's a silver lining. I like this Sonic from what I see. He also sounds more youthful too, even if his proportions kind of paint him more of being like Tails age rather than a teenager.
That's about where the praise ends though. I like this Sonic and what I see of him....but not much else. Tom does nothing but be the bore surrogate character and doesn't stand out at all. Though punching Eggman is kinda funny. Speaking of Jim Carrey...they kinda lost me with him. I do think he is a great choice for Robotnik but...this is feeling like just every goofy Carrey performance ever. It kinda just feels like Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey....and he just calls himself Robotnik for some reason despite being Jim Carrey.
Music is better too, and it's kinda funny how this Sonic is trying to be what Tom's best friend for some reason. Not in a good way...just kinda odd. It's probably the one thing I don't like about this Sonic. His allure was more everyone wants to follow him or be like him....and what he does brings people to becoming his friend. Not really him looking like a little kid trying to make a friend. Oddly this would fit a early Tails trying to be friends with Sonic more than Sonic trying to befriend someone.
Overall I still don't think it's gonna be good, but it doesn't look like a dumpster fire anymore. Looks like it may be ok.

Well if you're a big SNK person this must have been amazing. If not you're really gonna feel the bloat. That really didn't need to be 45 minutes long, and I think we coulda cut out the Classic mode run and let us players discover the references in them like we have with the others. I'm interested in Terry but honestly I'm more interested in his stage. It's like having a mini hyrule fight club. It's also a perfect stage for my half brothers who kinda suck at recovering.
I'm especially glad they announced beforehand that there would be no new character announcement so I would know ahead of time to HYPE RESPONSIBLY. So when I thought maybe they'd pull a fast one, I was still pretty sure to trust they wouldn't. So I was prepared.
A whopping 50 tracks damn. I bet people here are like  "Why couldn't sega be like "OK" and give out a bunch of music like that. Overall a what you see is what you get direct without any real surprises aside from maybe the music. I can go to sleep now, and then have to collect the new spirits to keep myself topped off.

Personally speaking, for me the worst period was around 2014 when Boom basically took over the franchise for a bit. At that point I just dipped out and went full on into Hatsune Miku hell. Not even because I particularly hate Boom as a concept, but Rise of Lyric didn't grab me for reasons that soon became obvious.
...but then Mania happened, so hell yeah.
