  1. So, strange thing happened while I was trying to put together my big planned picture; I discovered that my Sonic style and the way that I do backgrounds are completely incompatible. That kind of puts me on the spot though because it means I can't finish my picture without first completely building myself a new background style from scratch. That isn't inherently a bad thing but it'll take some serious time and on the side I don't want to let my Sonic style get rusty so I guess I'll be canceling the current picture unfortunately so that way I can focus on both over time. I'll have to start simply with my backgrounds to change my style at first to develop techniques that go with my Sonic style so who knows when I'll tackle my next big picture. In the meanwhile though I think I'm going to take a break from drawing for a bit to straighten out how I feel about this clash in how I do things.

Hope it won't take long until you're back in action again. I look forward to your future drawings!

That’s unfortunate but as with most things it isn’t always smooth sailing and setbacks-even serious ones-occur. I understand your disappointment and taking a break so you can tackle your game plan refreshed is a good idea but just be careful not to make your break too long. That has the potential to be fatal as far as your drawings go.

Also keep in mind you was doing a really good job with what you did so far and it would be a real shame not to see that come about via a finished product.

Hope everything works out and you’ll come back drawing better than ever with the adjustments you made and new things you have learned 🙂

Appreciate the support guys, I really do, but this is a case of me versus my own drawing style and there is definitely a fight going on to conquer the picture but also to properly build up the techniques and style to make everything blend. If anything, it's absolutely amazing to me just how incompatible the two styles are which is honestly a good lesson for me to learn. It's kind of a shame that I learned it mid project, but it's still a good thing and just something I have to figure out. Still though, I am wrestling with wanting to finish the picture a well wanting to do it right by me. Maybe a good night's sleep will help me approach it with a new mindset, but for now I'm kind of in internal conflict over it which would not be good for drawing.

Hope that internal conflict resolved itself and most importantly it doesn’t impede on your desire to draw.

As for the lessons I always say it’s better to learn them late than never at all. You are already aware of what happened, what you are up against and what you need to do even amid the difficulties so you are already ahead of the game.
