  1. I wonder how people would react if the boost was relegated only to a singular massive hub world that connected all of the action stages.

That's an idea I haven't heard before. As usual for when I mention hub worlds, I think most complaints about it would go away if there was an easy level select screen as well. Most hate for hub worlds is having to travel far to replay levels you like, so have the choice of both once you beat the level works fine.

i feel like if the hub is big enough to properly account for the boost, it's probably failing at the purpose hubs are supposed to serve. a hub world should be an efficient way to connect points of interest; centralized, clearly signposted, quickly and easily navigable, etc. but with the kind of space the boost needs, things are either going to be scattered over a huge space, or there's going to be a lot of pointless empty space between them.

Hubworlds give the player a safe room to experiment with all of the basic platforming mechanics/moveset of the game and learn basic navigation/exploration in what are ostensibly 3D environments. If you're going to create a hubworld where you use a mechanic designed for linear top speed to get from one stage entry point to another...I think that defeats the purpose of having a hubworld to begin with. Designing/playing through such a hubworld would also IMO be a waste of resources on the development team's part and a waste of gameplay time on the player's part, that in both cases would be more efficiently solved by a level select menu.
