  1. This anti-cheat just works.

Good thing I didn't buy this game.

I know, I'm glad I decided to pass on this game.

At least I haven't downloaded the update yet. Or if I have automatically, well... It's not installed until I open the game.

Guess I'm swearing off Doom Eternal until they replace this major security risk anti-cheat with a safer one.

Oh, and because it's kernel level, the anti-cheat eats up more RAM than Google Chrome on an empty stomach. Major performance drops have been reported as a result.

My computer is already too weak to play Doom Eternal, but this makes it so I can never play it now.

I swear every time I hear about Bethesda these days, they're digging themselves deeper into a ditch.

I'm not too familiar with Denuvo and anti cheats, but what about the Easy Anticheat that stuff like XV2, FighterZ and the like use? Is that as bad?

So, they're making the pirated version, objectively the better version....again!

This is why game devs should never be subsidiaries to tyrants.

It really must've been to good to be true for this game.

@Ryannumber1gamer I believe EAC is kernel-level too (unlike something like Valve's own anti-cheat which is integrated into Steam, basically only on software level), but what makes Doom controversial is that not only was it added a month after launch, but most people only play the single-player. Most games that use anti-cheat are multiplayer-focused, if not MP-only.

From what I read, the Halo collection uses EAC but only when you play multiplayer. That's why people never raised a fuss about it.

Also, if you remove the anti-cheat, which is meant specially for Battle Mode and is meant to have no bearing on the singleplayer,

the entire game is locked out to you. It will not let you play without the anti-cheat.

For what it's worth I don't think that Bethesda intended single player to require the anti-cheat. They seem to be working on a fix going by their and Denuvo's recent statements, and Proton users should be able to play the game again after an update. That doesn't excuse their idiocy but it doesn't seem to be a deliberately malicious act to screw people over.
