  1. Brits taking down and dumped an Edward Colston statue into the sea made me aware of how vile this person is. He made his whole fortune on slave trading, including one company where he shipped 84,500 Africans to the British Caribbean and dumped almost 20,000 into the sea. How this disgusting scumbag was revered is beyond me.

These protests almost made me aware of a colonial Belgian royal named Léopold II, as Congolese were vandalizing his statues…oh my Lord, to say he was an evil man is an understatement! And what I read is really disturbing. Just a bit of it in the box below:

From 1885 to 1908, at least ten million died, although it’s likely much higher.

In 1901 alone, a pandemic of several diseases brought forward by the King’s treatment of the Congolese killed at least half a million.

Famine ravished the population and increased the death rate.

If the King didn’t like how his slaves were handling the rubber and ivory demand, he would have the hands or feet of his slaves and even baby relatives cut off as punishment.

Children were kidnapped and sent to schools to become soldiers, half of them died from disease.

It’s one of the worst genocides of all time, rivaling that of the ravaging of the Caribbean Indigenous by Columbus, the Holocaust, the Armenian Genocide, The Trail of Tears, and the Great Leap Forward. Léopold II is one of the worst men in the history of the 19th Century, 20th Century (despite dying in 1909), and overall…yet Belgium erases his atrocities by glorifying him with statues all over. Having statues of him in Belgium is like Germany adorning statues of Hitler.

    1. Tarnish

I guess destoying historic monuments/statues and trying to erase the past is fine these days. Might as well burn those history books, right? Because remembering the past is the same as glorifying it.

    2. Thigolf

Destroying statues (read: works of art erected to praise a person) of assholes isn't the same as erasing history, give me a fucking break

    3. Tarnish

Well what is it then? It's a step in the direction of destroying evidence that the person existed and was a part of a location's history, regardless whether if it was for good or bad reasons. If that's fine, why stop there? Why not remove them from history books as well? Surely, "assholes" as you say don't deserve to be remembered, right?

    4. Thigolf

This is a really shitty "slippery slope" argument. Countless societies prove that you can remember tragic, devastating events without putting a statue up of the figures who caused it. Don't give me that shit.

  2. Since entering the race last summer, Amy McGrath has been the Senate's personal pick to win Kentucky from Mitch McConnell. A conservative Democrat who considers herself a pro-Trump Democrat and immediately flip-flopped on voting for and then against Kavanaugh, she would allegedly fit right into the mold of other corporate Democrats that parade the US Senate. But one person who entered the race early in the year has begun to pick up some serious steam and can win the primary and general: Charles Booker. A progressive from Louisville, he is campaigning for Medicare for All, Green New Deal, criminal justice reform, doesn't take corporate PAC dough, and supports a whole host of progressive ideals that have bled into American politics. As people protest in Kentucky, he has participated in them and helped them when needed. This evening, popular radio host Matt Jones (who considered a Senate run himself after McGrath kicked him off the air) announced his endorsement of Booker. I really believe Booker can win the primary and beat McConnell. Go get 'em!
  3. You younger Brits out there show off your protesting expertise today. A fitting place for that slave-trading piece of shit. :sneer:

  4. Quite cute for J.K. Rowling, a cis white billionaire, to think that it’s okay for her to shit on trans people during Pride Month AND the height of MASSIVE Black Lives Matter protests!

Get a fuckin’ clue, you privileged narcissist! :glimmer:

  5. Aleksander Katai's wife is completely responsible for his release today. If she didn't act like a white nationalist, he'd still have a job.

  6. All those cops beating up and violently arresting protestors at the anti-police brutality marches and protests the past week are perfectly making the case for defunding, firing, and rebooting the police departments.

I’m not a vegetarian or vegan, but if Trump’s dangerous decision to classify meatpacking workers (who spend long hours in cramped quarters handling meat in frigid temperatures) as “essential” cause someone to quit eating meat out of protest, I can’t blame them.

  8. Any church that violates safety Covid protocols (I.e., mass crowds, no social distancing, service during a lockdown when they were supposed to be closed) should have their tax exemptions permanently revoked.

      Sega DogTagz

Revoking the tax except status is a hollow threat because it will be quickly restored by the next politician looking to score some easy brownie points.

Its a lose-lose position, even if blocking congregations of people is the right thing to do. You look like a monster for blocking churches, while at the same time your punishment will be challenged and quickly undone. Furthermore, it'll stress out relationships between communities and police - which also opens a whole 'nother can of worms.

No easy answer to this aside from begging people not to be stupid.

  9. @SenEDDtor Missile I'm very familiar with all of this. Ryan Grim, who broke Tara Reade's story in the first place, has refuted Marcotte's own editorial and contacted Salon himself because she was plain wrong. Salon itself agreed and updated her article. Reade's old support for Russia changes absolutely nothing. The alleged rape occurred in 1993, long before she got into her pro-Russia fad. Five people, including her late mother in a call to Larry King and two people in a recent Business Insider report, corroborated. Her claim of sexual assault by Biden today is the same as back then. The Krassenstein brothers don't deserve one bit of credibility. Their grift dates back to at least 2016, and Twitter banned them for buying bot accounts to increase their Twitter profiles. The fact that these con artists lead this claim of theft by Tara is a massive question mark all by itself. They have as much journalistic integrity as Milo Yiannopoulos. I still fully believe Tara Reade and remain in her corner.
  10. >tfw dedicated Sonic fans are making a Sonic 06 remake with respectable gameplay, much crisper graphics, and much faster loading screen times.

Which 06 project are you referring to? There's so many of them.

Just a few years ago, TLK was considered to be overrated, but this fad of attaching that tag to it has dissolved over time. Gotta wait when Frozen, an excellent film and certain classic, will no longer be called “overrated,” too.

    1. Big Panda

      Big Panda

I still think TLK is overrated.

      Supah Berry

I mean Frozen's not the one that got a live action remake with that sucked out all the emotion the orginal had.

It also didn't ripoff an Osamu Tezuka classic and also Bambi.

The second half of TLK is so boring.

    6. DryLagoon

I'm gonna be that guy: I thought Frozen was overrated when it came out, let alone 10 years later.

I heard the hype around Frozen when it came out. I saw it and wasn't impressed, at all. Wasted potential and writing issues compared to the other Disney animated movies. Everyone else loves it. Frozen 2 comes out. I give it a chance. I loved it. Everyone else hates it. I'm salty as hell that I finally like it, but the "wrong" one.

who tf thought lion king was overrated lol

frozen is in a weird position where literally every conceivable position on it is wrong

    Rrrrriiiiiiiight. 😋

  13. Charlie Brown's such an every man despite being a kid. No matter how hard he tries, he's always saddled in some horrible luck. In The Peanuts Movie, he tries to do every good deed possible, only to have the world screw up. For instance, he wrote an excellent book report to help the Little Red-Haired Girl while she took care of her grandma, only got destroyed by chance by Linus's rogue Red Baron plane — a moment heartbreaking beyond belief. But all those moments where he loses makes the resolution so satisfying. The fact that he was willing to help her made her appreciate him, not the outcome.

Donald Duck's so similar. Like Charlie, he too gets saddled with all the bad luck, making him very relatable. The DuckTales reboot expands on this even further. Living and raising three nephews on that little rickety boat, he worked his tail feathers off to the point where he sees them as his kids. At times, his dedication for them and overprotection are taken for granted. But he just wants to be able to be a part of a family where they don't have to be stressed out all the time. So when he stands his ground or loses his temper for his family, there's such a catharsis. Look no further than when he battled back against Lunaris last season and the events in today's episode:

singing to Daisy with clear conviction, punching Graves (with Daisy's help) from the ceiling, and confronting Glamour for scapegoating Daisy.

  14. Watching newest episode of DuckTales!

  15. The more I read about Tangled: The Series, the more I'm convinced to go see it.

  16. WWE's creative decision to turn Lita heel by betraying Kane's one of the most fucked up in wrestling history. The only reason Kane became Lita's on-screen "wife" in the first place is because Kane frickin' RAPED HER! Edge may be opportunistic, but don't tell me he wouldn't be a better man for Lita than KANE!

  17. The coronavirus pandemic is living proof why vaccines matter, why lack of one devastates the economy, and why anti-vaxxerism is dangerous, life-threatening quackery.

  18. New Zealand deserves a lot of credit for not only taking the pandemic seriously, but also potentially squashing it from their country.

  19. Fanfiction.net has been an un-moderated cesspool of trolls for ages. Flaming, shittalking behind people's backs, telling people to "GKY" for writing Mary Sues or characters OOC, slapping stories into collection communities just to bully the authors. These have been MASSIVE problems that continue! Should I return to fanfiction writing, I'll likely devote more time to the calmer Archive of My Own and just post-and-go on FFnet.

    1. Monkey Destruction Switch

      Monkey Destruction Switch

I would agree but Archive of Our Own is full of erotic fiction that's not as easy to filter out as I would like.

  20. When The Intercept's Ryan Grim broke out the story of Christine Blasey Ford alleging sexual assault against Kavanaugh, MSM blitzed, and virtually every Dem regardless of the spectrum — myself included — believed her. Last week, he broke out Tara Reade's sexual assault allegations against Joe Biden, and it's nothing but crickets and attempts to discredit Grim (and The Intercept altogether) and the accuser. For the latter, Biden supporters online are literally taking pages out of the MAGA playbook to silence Reade.

Sexual harassment and assault aren't partisan issues. Reade's allegations are credible, disturbing, and should be taken seriously. MSM's silence and Biden supporters' vitriol and dastardly attempts of looking for every morsel to discredit her disgust me.

  22. Every great show has at least one masterpiece.

    FIM: The Perfect Pear

Gravity Falls: Not What He Seems

    Beast Wars: Code of Hero

    Gargoyles: Deadly Force

DuckTales 2017: Last Crash of the Sunchaser, Duck Knight Returns

    1. The Dork Knight

      The Dork Knight

The Duck Knight Returns! is Honestly my favorite episode of the entire series. A reboot within a reboot, it was the pefect way to officially bring Darkwing Duck back. As a mega Darkwing Fanatic, it was perfect. my main issue with the original is that we never got a proper origin story for Darkwing. Not only was this an amazing origin story, it provided an origin for another beloved character.. NEGA-DUCK!!!!! WHOOO!!!! I can't wait for them to return, and promo art for season 3 confirms that not only will they indeed return, Gosalyn will appear as well!! I'm freaking out here!!!

  23. How ironic that with how much Launchpad crashes, the one time he has to crash intentionally (Shadow War, into the Money Bin), he couldn't do it while piloting the plane.
