Oddly enough, that video actually convinced me that of the traditional/two non-Boost 3D playstyles we've had, Adventure (1) gameplay was/is the better option. (Although I personally still call for something more faithful to the Genesis games in 3D.) I think that realization hit me with the bit at 2:26 where Sonic was able to wallrun without the use of the parkour abilities (albeit with the speed shoes powerup on).
Like, don't get me wrong--some odd design choices aside (camera positioning, dash panels/springs), Lost World's gameplay with these stages really do show what we could have had if the designers weren't so dedicated to the planetoid/halfpipe 3D level design for most of that game's stages. The sections where the player near-effortlessly pull off the wallrun mechanic, spindash off the ramps being the best examples.
But at the same time, the controls and mechanics still look really clunky/scripted enough even with the more traditional Sonic level design; and pales in comparison to the more straightforward and accessible gameplay the Adventure titles offered.
