I love sex-positive feminism, individualist feminism, and equity feminism. I am critical of mainstream feminism, and I downright LOATHE sex-negative and radical feminism, and feminazism needs to go die in a fucking fire.

    15. Celestia

For the most part, yes. I'm annoyed by some things, like the whole "if you're a girl who acts "girly" you're not a /real/ feminist" BS I see occasionally, but yeah.

I know for sure that I hate sexism, so there's that.

  8. It isn't showing cleavage. It's designing a character to draw attention to the boobs to shock and titillate that there is now a Sonic character that has boobs. That is literally the extent of her design. I don't even hate Rouge or anything. My post was just discussing her daft design choice. I have more stick with a character like Amy. [besides, I'll have to go off the conversation for a bit. I'm going to the kitchen to cook. It's funny because it's true ]
  9. How many times do I have to say the same thing: that she's designed to be a dependable cliched 'clingy woman' and not a dependable person! Dependable person = can be well written, Cliched Clingy woman = Lazy cliched writing Well I agree with you, and I allude to this in my OP.
  10. I wouldn't mind if Amy was an overall depend person but she clearly isn't. Has she ever been dependent on anyone but Sonic? Her crush? Because I honestly can't think of a single example. Even if she did it is obviously an anomaly. I find gun in knickers rather funny. I assume it's supposed to be funny. As for Rouge, anything that isn't 'emphasise boobs' that is so dull and cliche. Literally, anything.
  11. No it's not. My argument is that I don't want men to see sexy female characters that have dreamed up by rich men in a company who are being lazy and are relying on cliche. Can't you see the difference?
  12. It is automatically offensive when she's designed to shock and titillate because she is the first (and only major?) Sonic character who has her boobs emphasised. It's the main part of her character design.
  13. She so clearly is there, partly, to shock and titillate on her design. You'd be in denial if you said she wasn't. I never criticised her character in my post and merely her design. All Sonic Team need to do is make her sexy in a way that isnt totally cliched and dumb. It's not asking for much.
  14. I just said they weren't masculine and feminine! That was the whole point of my post! But you can't pretend that Amy isn't fitting into a stereotype. She is fitting into the stereotype of the clingy and dependable woman (the clingy girlfriend for example).
  15. I agree with the second wave sex-positive feminism. I agree that a woman should be able to show off her body if she wants to. But Rouge isn't real. She's designed and marketed, probably by men, for a male audience, That is why I find it offensive. It's not a woman making her own choices but a patriarchal company who are designing what is the cliche in a medium.
  16. Hey, I don't mind if men find women sexy. It's not like they can be deprived of that or that I would want that either. I don't mind if a character was sexy if it was tastefully done and not demeaning to women as in: look she's sexy because she has big noticeable boobs. So yeah, if they redesigned Rouge I wouldn't have a problem. I think I put this in the OP actually.
  17. I've studied this in-depth in much detail and I understand your line of thought here. Some feminists are criticised for wanting women to have 'masculine qualities' so therefore are percieved as wanting women to become 'pseudo men' or as philosopher Julia Annas puts it (the best I have heard of this argument): 'women who are almost as good as men', Clearly the argument has some power. But to make this argument you have to define masculinity and femininity. Is Amy girly? Is being dependent and clingy a feminine trait? REALLY? And is Tikal not girly? As in, is being strong and independent purely a masculine trait? Again, REALLY?
  18. It's not about nudity. It's about how a character is designed so her chest is the one element about them most people remember when they first see them. Don't you think that's kind of demeaning? Also, a woman's opinion on this kind of thing isn't somehow more important than a man's.
  19. Well that's your personal opinion. I don't really mind that. I mean I think it's weird to find a bat sexy of all things but hey, it's personal opinion. (I'm not implying you do here) I'm more talking about how it's bad that Rouge is sexualized because, for her design, it's rather demeaning to women.
  20. "An interesting character will be interesting regardless of sex. Take your favorite character and change his/her sex. Is that character still with an interesting personality? Now take your least favorite character. Is his or her personality still unlikeable? As you may note a character’s depth isn’t going to depend on sex at all." I agree, that would be great but let's be honest that isn't going happen anytime soon. The genders are always locked into their stereotypes when they are designed. As for Amy, she's clearly been modelled on the stereotype of a needy female. She chases around the male Sonic and doesn't give him a break. You can't deny that it's based off the clingy girlfriend cliche that still exists now. So I would disagree that she's a needy person rather than a needy female. I said Tikal was a good character because: She is independent and strong willed enough to go against her father, she dies for what she believes in, she acts as a guide for Sonic throughout his adventure and she isn't stereotyped at all throughout the game You are kind of twisting my words there. As for the weak-willed, yes I do believe it is bad writing when it is so clearly based on a female cliche, as Amy's so clearly is. Well I think they are all disturbing too having just looked at them.
  21. No lol. It's the way she is so obviously designed to be a hilariously over the top seductress and the boobs are so emphasised in the design it basically says 'look here'. And it's disturbing because she's a cartoon character
  22. I think Rouge could be an interesting character if she wasn't so hilariously sexualized.
  23. Well I just gave the example of Tikal who I think is actually a good example of a female character.
  24. That's a fair point that I allude to at the end of the post. But I am talking specifically about the female characters here.
