Bright Eyes got a reaction from Snowragnarok in Character Speculation/Revival/What-if/etc Thread
Hello everyone. I have a great idea how to implement Sonic's friends into the next Sonic games. I know what you are probably going to think: "We are always discussing Sonic's friends. Do we really need yet another thread about Sonic's chums?". Well that may be true but there is one thing that the majority of threads discussing Sonics' friends are victim to: not actually discussing how to implement Sonic's friends.

    Look at this picture:

and also feast your eyes on this one:

I hope you are getting used to this gamestyle people because, like it or not, this is probably how Sonic is going to stay for a long time. SEGA have just got their mascot back on his feet with critical acclaim and public opinion. So, for this reason, it is best to discuss Sonic's friends in relation to this style of play. There is obviously no point bringing up how Sonic's friends functioned in the Adventure games because that gameplay is now outdated and will not be coming back. If you like it or not you have to face facts.

You will probably be thinking to yourself: "So if we are being realistic then why are we talking about the return of Sonic's friends. They have been removed from all games so why would they return now". I will urge you to reconsider what you are thinking. Sonic CD had the return of Tails, Episode: Metal had Metal Sonic (albeit terribly done) and Sonic 4: Episode 2 was marketed around the return of the cute fox (even though there was the incredible blunder that Tails wasn't playable in single-player). I think it stands perfectly to reason that Sonic's friends could return.

I think the first thing SEGA would realise is that they cannot force Sonic's friends on players. Like it or not, they are a controversial aspect of this game. SEGA has shown that they have tried to please the fans though: see the friends in Sonic Generations and Tails in Sonic 4: Episode 2. Both of these measures were clearly underwhelming. Fans want the characters to be playable and not to feature as an unsure gimmick. So what would be the perfect way for SEGA to implement them? I think the answer is so blindingly obvious it baffles me that SEGA have not done this yet. I will use Tails as an example since he is popular and is probably the most realistic character to become playable. Once you win the story mode and you meet the unlock requirements you get to play as Tails. He does not have a story mode and simply plays Sonic's levels. Of course to make him a bit different he would have his flight mechanic and can find hidden itemboxes (think of a kind of half-hearted attempt like Knuckles in Sonic 2). To make him plausible for 3D he gets the homing attack (as he did in Sonic Rivals) but he does not have the Boost (to counterbalance his flight and to make Sonic the better character: Sonic needs the limelight!). This way Sonic fans would finally shut up about playable characters and the critics would not be unhappy.

Now you are probably thinking: "This is a nice idea but probably unrealistic. I mean, wouldn't that take a lot of developer time and effort." Well I would disagree with that. Firstly, Sonic Generations had new models for a lot of characters and this is much more time consuming than creating animations for playable characters. Secondly, look at Mario Galaxy. Luigi is only playable after 100% completion of the game and he is a fully playable character. This would be a great idea and, as well as letting us play as a realistic amount of characters, it would also improve the replay value. The length of the game would not seem as bad if there were unique characters to roam about with.

I think this would be the perfect and realistic solution. Give me your feedback and thoughts.

Games age badly when, behind the contemporary flash, they aren't actually substantial. For example, Sonic Adventure has a poor camera, story alternate gamestyles, voice acting and an absurd amount of glitches. These were overlooked when the game was first released and was a much faster 3D game than anything at the time but now, with 3D platformers moving a long way, the problems are easily recognisable.

Games age well when. like Sonic 1,2,3 e.t.c, the core gameplay handles well even after the flash effect has worn off. The 'blast processing' is not so impressive now but these games still hold up extremely well today and thus have thought to have aged well.

One of the things I loved the most about Sonic Generations was how they tried to make Sonic look like such badass. Every time he defeats a rival he utterly destroys them.

He blows Metal Sonic up. This is pretty hilarious in itself. Classic Sonic sure takes no prisoners! Here I was thinking he was everyone's friendly hedgehog but he shows no mercy to the wicked! It kind of makes sense though because Metal Sonic is blown up at the end of Sonic CD but still...man.

And then we get to Shadow. This is even more funny than Metal Sonic. Shadow gets absolutely owned in his rival fight:

    See 2:12

I mean ouch! Not only does this break canon because Shadow is supposed to be such a super-villain but it is also incredibly funny because of the way SEGA are trolling the fans. The only appearance Shadow makes in Sonic Generations is to get put into his place by Sonic!

    And then..

We get Silver. This is where Sonic's ultimate baddass-ery comes into play. Sonic doesn't defeat Silver he absolutely annihilates him. Watch this again:

See 2:33. It's like ouch! But not only is there the hilarious fact that Silver gets crushed in such a way. The other hilarious thing is you get an achievement: 'Silver got served'.

So the moral of the story? Don't mess with Sonic. He's basically Genghis Khan.

I've studied this in-depth in much detail and I understand your line of thought here.

Some feminists are criticised for wanting women to have 'masculine qualities' so therefore are percieved as wanting women to become 'pseudo men' or as philosopher Julia Annas puts it (the best I have heard of this argument): 'women who are almost as good as men',

Clearly the argument has some power. But to make this argument you have to define masculinity and femininity.

Is Amy girly? Is being dependent and clingy a feminine trait? REALLY?

And is Tikal not girly? As in, is being strong and independent purely a masculine trait? Again, REALLY?

No lol. It's the way she is so obviously designed to be a hilariously over the top seductress and the boobs are so emphasised in the design it basically says 'look here'.

And it's disturbing because she's a cartoon character

It's a cover of a Kate Bush song, it's a very good song and my version clearly isn't as good as the original! Nevertheless give it a look and give me feedback.

And i will give you a lilly for your touble!

I don't know about a sandbox Sonic game I mean..the level design has always been such an important feature of the games.

A Sandbox game would unbalance that and try to make Sonic function in an environment that wouldn't suit him.

Cult would have been my first port of call. However there's gotta be mention of it on some of the lesser known sonic fansites that are around. TSS probably did have something on it... thank you server deletion.... however what about sites like The Sonic Factory? Sonic HQ? Sonic the Comic online, Heck even the 4kids forums (if they still exist).

Older lesser popular forums which havn't had many updates are most likely to have it since I doubt they have a forum prune active. Popular sites like Gamespot are less likely to have the items since I can't find many pages about the announcement of Shadows game.

So I found the poll... .. .. .. Are you ready to laugh your heads off....

I'll list my top unintentional hilarious Sonic moments (although this is by no means a comprehensive list because there are so many awesome moments).

What about Shadow's favourite word? (Wow even Espio is 'hardcore' now!)

But then again the whole of Shadow the Hedgehog is pretty hilarious. It's an unintentional masterpiece of comedy. The game tries so hard to be moody..oh boy.

My favourite goes to Sonic Genesis though (that game is hilarious too):

I don't know what it is about this...it just gets me every time. This sound effect sums up the entire Sonic GBA game.

It's true. I know a lot of people who've played through Sonic Adventure, but never noticed that Gamma's flicky shows up for the last episode. It's like "Look! It's a heart-warming clue that at least part of Gamma lives on. Why do you keep overlooking this?"

The Gamma robots in Sonic Adventure 2 and the evil Gamma in Sonic Battle were just so unnecessary. At least with Omega they firmly established that this was a new person with a completely different personality...until they replaced him with an identical robot in 06 that behaves nothing like Omega, but also nothing like Gamma.

Poor Gamma. Poor Omega. Robots get dealt a bad hand in this series.
