  1. Boost Sonic but whenever Sonic is boosting the music and sfx disappears entirely

  3. Welp, I'm finally starting uni this week after pushing for it for so long, so between working my way through school and my now extremely limited sleep schedule, don't expect to see much of myself around here honestly. Not that I've been that active in the last few months anyways, but I just feel like I should give an update on where I am currently, what with my recent radio silence.

Regardless !!! I DID IT!!! FINALLY going to university! Getting a degree in computer science hopefully, already joined a cs club with a bunch of cool people and events that should help give me programming experience, there's even an opportunity for me to pitch in and help build a full-sized solar car, race car, and a legit BattleBot for the school teams adkfkjsh

It's gonna be legit tough all things considered, so I just hope I can hold out for the long haul or work something better out later on... but STILL !!!

I'll probably pop in every now and then if I have the downtime, or whenever the next big thing hits, but until then, keep it real y'all

  4. Catching bits and pieces of E3 so far. BotW sequel is cool so soon, but I'm worried it might not be that thematically distinct if it's using the same aesthetic and overworld as BotW tbh. Best case I can think of is if a majority of it takes place underground, while the overworld is re-contextualized into a horror/survival angle with undead invading/a heavier atmosphere, but eeeeh... I dunno. Feels like it'd be better suited as $40 DLC than an entirely new game for now tbh

On the other hand UNDERGROUND EXPLORATION BABY

EXACTLY what I felt BotW needed more of. If it is reusing the overworld, I hope Hyrule has been razed all over the place, rather than only under Hyrule Castle. Finding underground caves/ancient temples in inconspicuous places is my jaaaaam

I'm just praying them reusing assets and the engine from botw leads to a much shorter dev time.

I also hope that they go wild af with the story and stuff since all the asset creation is already finished.

  5. Why is Promare Japan-only rn aaaaaaa I want to watch it so BAD

      Polkadi~☆

      whaaaat

ugh, i really want to see this, i'll even take it subbed if that's what it takes to see it in theatres

    2. The Deleter

      The Deleter

Your best bet is flying over there for that tbh, I don't expect this to hit theaters outside Japan in any form. Only big names like Dragon Ball and Ghibli ever hit the big screen in limited runs, yeah?

The fact that there's basically nothing close to an effort to localize anything, even the trailers, is what's driving me up the wall rn. Even the anime community itself doesn't seem to care about this enough to make their own fan-subs of trailers or anything. It's killing meeeeeee...

    3. Polkadi~☆

      Polkadi~☆

Being by the same director and screenwriter who made Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill, I am baffled that this movie is barely getting any traction. I'd trust the two of them to make a fun and satisfying movie, but I haven't got the chance to watch it in the first place

    4. Ferno

      Ferno

if we respected animation over here in the west instead of treating it as kiddie fare to babysit toddlers then maybe we'd be getting Promare and other anime releases that aren't shonen jump-based or Ghibli. [/salt]

    6. Polkadi~☆

      Polkadi~☆

Ferno, place the blame on the movie's publisher deciding not to release the movie outside of Japan :V

Localisers need permission from the publisher to do their work. As of right now, it's been decided to only be distributed in Japan.

If my local theatre can play some Fate:stay-whatever weeb shit, I'm sure we can get Promare if other countries got the distribution rights.

Also ended up finding a bunch of stuff that I can hopefully gnaw my teeth on for now, like the opening five minutes of the movie:

The first fight scene in the movie:

      Most of the OST:

And even a ten-minute prequel setting up the main cast:

      ...

Nope, that just made it even worse

AAAAaAAAAAaaaAAAAAAAA LET ME WATCH YOUR SHIT JAPAN

    13. Polkadi~☆

      Polkadi~☆

oh, if it's toho, then funimation will definitely do it

and watching all those videos dID NOT HELP WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT

  6. Alright, it's gonna keep me up until the sun rises, but I got tickets for Endgame the day it comes out! I'll be on the cutting-edge of the discussio

Also me: *sleeps for two days straight from exhaustion*

  7. Meanwhile I'm over here watching Ant Man and the Wasp. More of the same, but I loved the first Ant Man so that's fine by me. For me they're the only actually good-feel movies of the marvel series; nothing too serious, and over the top for the sake of it, with a side of wholesome. Just what the doctor ordered, and it's nice to watch a Marvel movie where I can expect and embrace the cheesy wit/jokes, rather than begrudgingly dread how it might pop it's head around the corner the second it doesn't need to exist.

Now, on to the big guns...

  9. Sonic rehashes level tropes: where's the ORIGINALITY

Kirby rehashes the first world every game: wheeeeee

Sonic does Monster of the Week: this is so lame WHERES EGGMAN

Kirby does Monster of the Week: Holy crap this boss is so dark and even better than the last one!

Shadow gets a gun: Ruined FOREVER

    Kirby gets a gun: 8DDDDDD

The moral of this story is why can't Sonic fans be more like Kirby fans more often

They have so much fun and we don't it's not fair

    1. Shaddy Zaphod

      The drunkard from space!

When Kirby does it it's actually good and justified where as when Sonic does these things it's gimmicky and poorly explained in the story and people wouldn't complain as much if Sonic's games were decent to begin with.

    7. Mil-O-Lantern

      Mil-O-Lantern

it's almost as if the context for how franchises handles certain things and how their respective audiences respond to those certain things actually varies from series to series

Oh Deleter got the point he's just lamenting how good we got it sometimes

  10. Thinking about how Facebook's status bar asks, "What's on your mind?" then stopping ten words into my answer, realizing Facebook is made for everything but what's on my mind

    Why are you like this

  11. Y'know, Infinity War is pretty much the only reason I find myself caring about the MCU as a larger whole, looking back on it. With how many directors and directions each movie tended to have, it always felt like retcon was more inherent to the series than any real follow-through for the overarching plot, despite throwing in good ideas here and there that are mostly glossed over. But the way IW basically cherry picks every idea and direction that can work as a continuous narrative, ignores the rest, and builds it's entire identity as a climax around that and that alone... Almost makes the series work well enough, in spite of it all?

I'll always heavily prefer a tightly planned epic sprawling across multiple books/movies/seasons at the end of the day, but still, for a movie series that shouldn't work that well with how spitball it has been with its planning and management, it's pretty cool to see it coming together as neatly as Infinity War is pulling it off... even if it retcons things in the process as well...

    *cough*whathappenedtoassholethanos*cough*

  12. So the next Trigger anime is basically Rescue Heroes/Bots/any other campy preschool rescue shows, but mecha and on crack?

      giphy.gif

Real talk a tightly made movie with a high budget really won't be bad at all, but still... Kinda disappointing after assuming there'd be an entire TV series around this premise, instead

  14. The real reason Sony keeps shutting down their online servers is to create brief artificial demand for the poor regulars who have no one to play with in their favorite but dying games

    1. Ryannumber1Scarer

      Ryannumber1Scarer

Driveclub of all games seems so random to shut down.

  15. Dark Souls has always interested me because of the world design and difficulty/content, but offput me with the plodding movement speed and clunky-looking dodge roll mechanics

Idk how similar the two are at the end of the day, but looking at even just a few minutes of Sekiro, it looks like it fixes all those problems for me and then some, hot dang. The different combat and movement styles along with the grapple feature almost make me want to play the game for that alone, even. Guess it says a lot about my priorities when I find anything short of a swift sprint, swinging, or grinding on something to be an instant turn off, though, lmao...

  16. After re-obsessing about it after the labo VR trailer dropped, I managed to snag all three labo kits for only $60 with a target deal. It's been several days and suddenly I don't feel even the slightest urge to open them in the first place

  23. It was weird having to catch the direct on the road. On one hand, best alternative to a podcast/radio station ever, but on the other hand, outside of hearing the news right when it drops, it kinda felt pointless without anyone else to talk about it with immediately before/after it. Here's hoping later directs happen on weekends or earlier on, I guess...

    Highlights for me:

    Spoiler
    • Super Mario Maker: SUPAH MARIO MAKER 2 BABEEEEEEE
    • Yoshi's Crafted World: The demo was pretty fun. I was disappointed that they took out the camera flipping mechanic earlier on, but the game still focuses so much on background interaction with the egg throwing, it still has the same appeal of 3D exploration in a 2D space for me. Miiight wait until I can see how complex the later levels get before buying it, though, since it feels so easy/basic for now.
    • Daemon X Machina: Demo was cool, and the controls and customization were a lot easier to come to grips with than I thought. I'm glad the story appears to be more "anime" than typical military Armored Core games seemed, but it's so half baked so far... I dunno about it. Gameplay's not perfect, so I hope to use the survey thing they talked about eventually, but it's better than what the gameplay from E3 showcased, I feel.
    • Astral Chain: First thought when I saw the helicopter was "HA, Star Fox, yes!", but then they showed off the human designs and my interest fell off a cliff. Then I saw the combat and guessed it was a Platinum game, which picked it back up again slightly. But then the the cheesy monologues started and the director names were popping up, and I had the stupidest grin on my face at that point. This is gonna be one of those Platinum games - wild rides from start to finish, twists and turns galore, and an ample dose of earnest cheese to back it up. Calling it. Even if it doesn't end up being one of the best Platinum games, as long as it hits those criteria, I'm sold. (Also 2019 release!!!?!)
    • Link's Awakening remake: I'm cool with the art style, but I wish it wasn't a remake. That's about it, really. If I wanted to play Link's Awakening, I'd play the Gameboy version first, so to have the first top-down Zelda in the Switch's lineup be wasted on a mere visual rehaul of an older game feels like a waste of resources to me. Hopefully the art styles of future games are just as varied, though; that's always been a part of the appeal of the 3D games to me, so a constant rotation of aesthetic differences for the newer 2D games would be really cool to see. Just as long as they're not always chibi, at least.

  24. I was ambushed/chased by a wild Toby Fox coming home and it gave me a right spook
