I've been seeing this same sentiment prop up a lot today around the web and it's honestly making me laugh. Laugh in agreement, mind.
So many people putting the two designs up side by side and sharing the same thought process in utter disbelief.
"No, there's absolutely no way the one on the left was the old design. I don't remember it looking this bad!"
"Good grief, the old movie Sonic design looks even worse now in retrospect."
"How on earth did the original design ever get approved?"
    And honestly...

    ...can you really blame them?

Dear Christ, it looks worse when you put it side by side, holy shit. Absolutely barf. I can not BELIEVE a human being with eyes approved that shit. I CAN'T. Even the "easy cash grab" argument don't stick because nobody would pay a single cent to watch that... I mean, almost nobody...

Scratch the percentage thing above. I think  everybody is getting confused in some way here.
Yes. I agree the stickers are not giving or showing 5%. However that means I should be getting 75% instead of 70% like I have been. 65% is NOT the maximum. That has definitely been raised.

When I calculate my costs for my current ride:
    - Ami: 10%
    - Circus Ami Skin: 25%
    - Roadster: 10%
    - Palmtree Decal (Legendary): 10%
    - Electron Team Bandicoot Wheels: 10%
    - Neon Red and Yellow Paint Job: 5%
    - Fireworks Sticker: 5%
    = 75%
I think with the higher percentage some people may not realise that there are certain (older) decals or wheels that give 10% rather than 5% leading to some confusion.
But yeah, I’m in agreement that those stickers do not give anything right now.

Unlocked all the newbies fairly quickly now that they’ve thankfully reduced most of the prices of the packs and made it much easier to obtain coins (more on this in a mo) and Nitro.
King Chicken took all of 5 minutes to get but was a nice Easter Egg to add in from the mystery back when the game released. It does make me wonder if it was just cut content that was only pieced in now because the game has done well? Quite lucky if so. Hilarious that he seems to take top spot for all the Time Trials. He’s utterly pointless but absolutely hilarious to have as a racer.
Also Happy to have finally Unlocked the Ami Skin - the others were alright and they’ve completely ruined Isabella but I love they added in part of the old Trophy Girl pose into the win routine. A nice touch.
Anyway, I’ve found that as well the Nitro Percentage being able to reach up to 70% as mentioned earlier, it’s now become much easier to grind for coins offline during the weekdays and now with the x2 weekend bonus they added in for offline mode last month.
This is a pretty sweet deal weather you play online or not as it nets you extra coins either way. I experimented with numerous tracks just to make sure how it works, but the new mode you want to be earning coins through offline is RING RALLY.
I’m sure others have found this out as well (Edit: literally just above after I posted lol). It might also be possible to obtain more coins this way in other offline game modes... but this is certainly going to be the quickest and most fun way.
So, essentially if you can make sure to reach at least 6 laps in any track on Ring Rally this will double its regular track coin quota - do this on a weekend and it will double it again - giving you a sweet x4 bonus offline overall. I can only imagine that this will x3 bonus on 9 laps, which again at weekends will double the coins to a x6 bonus. There may be a few more nuances to it than that but is what I’ve deducted from playing over different tracks and trying a few different wins scenarios.
I think Beenox seem to have understood the horrible grind and burnout somewhat by accommodating for these, which is appreciated if a bit late.

I messed around with Ring Rally and I like it. Rings appear on the course and you have to get as many points as you can within the time limit. For each ring you get you a boost with some reserves and extra time. The rings get smaller with each lap but give more points and a stronger boost, eventually giving full blown USF(blue fire). And, the more points you get the more coins you earn, with the weekend multiplier on I got over 300 coins from getting 400000 points on Hot Air Skyway. Be prepared to git gud if you wanna get 700000 for the Nitro Challenge though. Also, since Pit Stop skins give 25%, stickers 5%, and wheels 10%(for 70% total), I've already hit gold tier (17000 nitro).

So there are some visual design reasons for the skin-colored arms, mainly to help them stand out from the body on 16 bit hardware. That said, blue arms are not inherently wrong in theory, aside from the fact that it's contrary to the established design. That should be enough to shoot down any reason to do it any other way, but that aside, it's a matter of personal preference. Most other Sonic characters (Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Silver, etc) don't follow that design principle, so I can understand why someone would prefer it.

King Chicken was shown driving in a kart, and was shown in the new character image, he is definitely a playable driver. It makes sense for him to be here now because the Circus event is the most ridiculous one so far, and you don't get more ridiculous than a playable chicken in a crown.
My guess is he's going to be someone like Penta, you've got to go out of your way to unlock him, and he'll be a hidden character.

I can't stop thinking about how the first reaction would've been if this design was used from the beggining. Arguibly waaaaaaaay more positive. But after all the mockery and negative buzz, having a cool design now just feels... Bitter sweet to me. I doesn't change my perspective of this movie, if anything, it just unquestionably shows how people who said it looked terrible were right and how deeply wrong Paramount's direction was. I'm looking at both designs right now, and the old one looks even more horrible, if that's possible. It looks like when a fusion goes wrong in Dragon Ball Z.
So yeah. As much as I like this new design... The damage was already done.

Despite all the controversy surrounding this movie and that that it will probably still be ass... this is actually a really good redesign - especially compared to the first few shots we had a few months ago which were merely just acceptable.
This and the previous billboard photo leak are damn impressive showings of the lengths they went to to get this corrected. And although I think they should have done this right from the off, I gotta give credit to them for actually respecting that the fan base were right on this.
Now, That’s not always true of an outcry. The Director Jeff Fowler was trying to see his vision through and prove to us his original version of Sonic was going to work - so I think it is very humbling for him to accept defeat on the subject and completely go for a revise. From his point of view with the lead up to the trailer and the drop, it must have been a really crappy day for him. Especially as this is his first big film - I figure that probably lead to the change as well, don’t want to start your big time career role on a dud.
But yeah, this is great - blue arms and all - I personally think they did make the right artistic call on that one for what it’s worth.

What? No, I really disagree, man. Now it's time to get serious, can you believe freaking Hollywood changed the release date, increased the budget, changed stuff from the movie (I mean, he's still supposed to get the new shoes and gloves during the story, as part of his origin thing) just to please the fans? If there is a time to show gratitude, by buying a ticket, it's this moment. It's just crazy, mindblowing to me that the power of fans complaning got to this moment… maybe, it was for the best after all by seeing the end result of the design alone, can't say for the movie because it's not out, I will judge it when it releases, it will probably not be much but at least entertaining? I dunno, still I appreciate the effort they took, every opinion about the movie itself (including mine) before the release is just a prejudice to me. Or at least, it's not judging the Whole thing, but rather a bad promotional trailer, which doesn't necessarily represent the final product.
Anyway, I still think you guys did good, without the universal complaining we would have gotten a shitty look at a generic Hollywood messy design. So yes, you made the improvement possible, but also Paramount.

This design is really, really good. I am so hyped!
If I was being fussy, I would still rather one eye and a bald Eggman but hey, this a is a great compromise. And I know it's Sonic and Eggman's origin story.
Hype levels at 100% now for me!

    I honestly don’t see how that’s a bad thing.
Don’t you get tired of using those same Pokemon in every game? I know I often fall into that trap of having the same Pokemon on my teams a lot of the time. And it seems quite a few of the Pokemon I’d default to aren’t there anymore. And I’m cool with that. The temptation to use them for the billionth time is gone.
I like the idea of a Pokedex that forces you to step outside your comfort zone.

Son-icka got a reaction from Wraith in Final Fantasy 7 Remake "is this the real life..."
Got to say, up until playing the Demo of this at EGX a few weekends ago I was very very skeptical of everything... the episodic structure, the whole of part 1 just being in Midgar, and how they’d translate the original experience into an action RPG. I was worried, and not that interested in picking this up. Especially for it’s price point.
    But, I’m not concerned anymore.
If the quality of what I played is the same throughout all of episode 1 and beyond... Then they can damn well take as long as they want releasing it this way. Square Enix set a real high standard here.
I heard this from many other previews, but I have to echo their statements that the actual action combat itself just... clicks. Its a real surprise. It’s like a wonderful evolution of Kingdom Hearts combat system with just the right elements of Final Fantasy’s ATB thrown in for good measure. The fact that you can switch between characters at any time, the amazing slowdown that is created when you “pause” to consider your tactical options to select certain moves, and that you have to use your surroundings to your advantage in combat is really engaging and exciting during a fight. It works really well.
I still think the asking price is waaaaay too high for just 1 part of a remake of a PS1 game. But I’m starting to understand why when all the production values are considered in total. The effort cannot be ignored. I’m just gunna hope the entire game holds up to what I experienced.

This is a thing. Buuuut hopefully the purist part of the fandom understand it’s not going to be exactly the same.
Its something we found out when discussing it with some of the Playstation representatives when we were there, my friend misunderstood telling them he was excited there was an option to play it just like FFVII and they kept awkwardly trying to explain that it’s not exactly how classic mode functions.
Best way to think of it is that it just disables the action based combat and places all characters into AI mode than yourself controlling them running around hacking and slashing. So it’s more of an illusion of a classic mode that templates over the standard gameplay type.
Basically, everything is pretty much exactly the same except that your characters acts automatically until the ATB fills up to make the bigger actions. The ability to pause/slowdown to choose special attacks/ potions/magic is part of the standard new action orientated gameplay regardless of what mode you choose, you’re just even more of a tactician in classic mode is all.
However, it is still great that they included this as an option even at all.

In other news, I've finished this GP a week ago and yesterday I've managed to buy everything from it, as well as some stuff I've missed from the previous ones. For some reason, the Pit Stop is showing itens from every GP, not just Spooky and Nitro Tour. Just yesterday I got a decal I've missed from Spyro's GP.
I probably have like, 90% of what the game has to offer adquired. Without spending a penny of real money. Althought I'm kinda tempted to buy the Firehawk kart. I won't, tho'.

Yeah... it’s better. Like much better. I won’t complain IF this turned out to be legit.
BUT, for something that is having a complete overhaul I personally would have expected just a bit more. It’s now halfway between the creepy design and the true classic look.
I don’t know how much input Tyson Hesse has with this whole thing, but I’d like to think even he wouldn’t have been happy with this standard.
There is the “it might look better in motion” argument, but the last time this was pitched and the trailer dropped the internet exploded.
