If Sonic Team wants to win back my trust, they need to show off whatever the next game is in a more substantial way than just a CGI trailer or a flashy logo, or spouting off some PR drivel about how "Sonic's finally back" again- let the game speak for itself, and actually show gameplay. Until they blow my expectations away, I have no reason to not be cynical.

On some level, I wouldn't be against a Sonic Adventure remake, but it would have to be something more akin to the FF7 remake (re-envisioning the concept in a new way) than a straight up creation of the game as it was for me to be interested.

I had a dream about the next Sonic game. It was the first level, pretty straightforward/linear, mostly flat, decently long. It kind of looked like a mix of Planet Wisp and GHZ. I was playing as Sonic, running forward normally, and jumped up onto a rectangular platform that had a road with a long stretch of  timed spike strips, tried going through the section just running forward and not stopping, died, re-spawned, got to the same section, tried holding B, ended up boosting through the section no problem, and then got to a trail of rings at the end of the section, used the light dash, ended up at another trail of rings and a series of enemies going around in a circle around Sonic, plus a wisp capsule. I homing attacked the wisp capsule, a button prompt appeared to use it, I used it to transform into the hover wisp, pressed the button, and the Wisp did a loop-de-loop in a circular motion, destroying the circle of enemies around Sonic. Seemed like it controlled like the adventure games at the slower speed and of course like the boost games at the higher speed, and the level design seemed to accommodate both gameplays decently well.

Here's a SSB thought experiment: Categorize the roster into four categories.
    Swordfighter
    Brawler
    Gunner
Mixed/Other (heavily uses attributes from two or all three groups, or you simply can't decide which they fit best in)
Here's what I came up with:

Obviously subjective in many cases, but overall, I think you'll find it pretty consistent that a majority are Brawlers, many are mixed/other, a good amount are swordfighters, and the fewest are gunners. I just wanted to do this to see how the complaints about swordfighters actually stacks up- and honestly, the problem is there aren't enough gunners, because then it'd be pretty even actually.

While I'd agree remasters are a bit lazy most of the time, remakes have a lot of warrant in my opinion. You can remake an aged game for a new generation of players, and when done right, it works really well. OoT3D, MM3D, and WWHD are legitimately good in my mind and even are considered by me to be the definitive versions of those games- though in MM3D's case it's not AS clear cut, because more drastic changes means more chance of someone not liking the changes.
