VGamer got a reaction from AaronAnimated in Sonic Lost World Wii U NPD LTD leak: 94,000 as of Feb 2014
Omote, you're making this into a huge thing about SegaSammy, the franchise isn't profitable, and how you want Sonic to be sold to another company, when it's NOT that big and complicated. It's really clear that SLW sold this mediocre because it's on the Wii U. This isn't going to inspire Sega to sell off the franchise, it's still profitable.

Unleashed? Colors? Generations? Racing Transformed? All sold well. This was an exception due to it being on a somewhat failing console. Please stop it with the talk about Sonic failing as a whole and all that, I get super tired whenever I have to see this anywhere without any solid proof to back it up.

VGamer reacted to Badnik Mechanic in Unconfirmed: Sonic to get a new Sidekick, to be created by fans
Detective SSMB aka Shadzter has found something I think you'll be interested in.

At some point in the near future, Sega are going to launch a competition for a new character to appear in a future Sonic game which will be designed by a Sonic fan.

That's right, Original The Character is going to appear in the next Sonic game.

Michael Nagy is an artist who works for an advertising company called DDB Tribal  who have run some major campaigns for big events such as The Queens Diamond Jubilee & various big named corporate advertising campaigns.

And it would appear from these images which have appeared on his own website, that he has as been asked by Sega to help put together 'The Search For Sonic's Sidekick.'

Images which have been found on this companies website indicate that Sega intend to design and release an app which will run on the android and apple devices which will be used to create a new character and then race/collect rings with them throughout a virtual city using Google Street Views technology.

There is a leader board system also in place and what appears to be a form of collecting items?

The competition is going to run for at least 11 months, it will take place in several countries all around the world.

The following description comes from the images.

The thing to notice is that it says 'next game that is produced for Sonic' so it might not be a console game but a mobile one. The website runthestreets.com isn't live yet, so don't waste time looking into it, however the images are still live on Google cache which is how they were found.

Also notice the font in the logo, it's the same as the font which is used on SOS & Sonic Boom logos.

Guys... this is potentially huge. This is potentially the biggest thing Sega have done since they launched the Dreamcast. I cannot stress how big this could be if it goes ahead. Just from the logistics alone, it's a pretty big thing if they intend to launch and maintain this as well as pick a winner.

This topic will be updated when/if more information comes in.

So then... SSMB mascot entry anyone?

P.S. If SSMB crashes due to this news... I want a forum badge "Contributed to causing the forum to crash 3 times!" Well that never happened, should have popped it up at 6pm =p

Well in pursuit of names for Part 3 of my Big Red Button hunt, I stumbled upon another big figure from the Animation industry.

That man is Travis Koller, where was he prior to Big Red Button?

Oh, just at Dreamworks Animation from 2001-2012!

    Films include:

    Shrek 2
    Shrek the Third
    Madagascar
    Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
    Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted
    How to Train Your Dragon
    Megamind

As a Visual Development Illustrator/Concept Artist, here's the description:

At Big Red Button he has the same role minus Concept Artist.

His site's not working for me at the moment, but I seemed to have found some art pieces:

There's actually another related person, however said person is no longer at BRB, that person was Erwin Madrid, who worked at Dreamworks Animation for almost 9 years from April 2003-Dec 2011 as a Visual Development Artist. At BRB he was there for three years as a Freelance Concept Artist, having left in May 2013, so surely did what was needed for Sonic Boom (concept artists I'd imagine shouldn't be needed once things are in full swing, they're meant for, well, the concept phase lol!). Here's his site:

    http://www.erwinmadrid.com/

Films Erwin worked on include (obviously not limited to, just ones I found):

    Shrek the Third
    Shrek the Halls (short)
    Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
    Megamind

BUT he also worked on the original Uncharted for that extra Naughty Dog goodness.

    Everyone should recognize this pic:

    That's Erwin's work!

Oh, and the freakiest Megamind pic you'll see:

    That's it for now.

While I have confidence in SEGA America for the Sonic franchise, I will admit I do dislike their policy towards non-Sonic titles. I don't know much non-Sonic SEGA myself, and SEGA America's policy of ignoring any homebrewed (i.e. Company of Heroes, Total War, etc. do not count given they weren't originally SEGA) franchise besides Sonic just ensures that these franchises will continue to be forgotten as time goes on.

I really would like it if a newer gamer could pick up an All Stars title and not go "Who's that?" to half the characters, myself.

Can I just say, I wish the WHOLE game was like the first portion of the DLC? Not even remotely joking.

I loved Lost World, but honestly, the levels were way too linear. It's just going straight, and the "multiple pathways" only required you to go left to right. This DLC (the part where you're outside anyways) outright PROVES that the current control scheme works really damn well with open levels (kinda like SA1). There's actual multiple paths, albeit to a lesser extent I guess, but still, they're there! The place felt really open to me first time playing it, and it's just SO much better than every level in Lost World, and that's coming from someone who really loved this game.

VGamer reacted to Blacklightning in Sonic Lost World DLC, Why Sega make Free DLC?
What the hell are you even talking about? If anything, SLW's situation is more admirable than TF2's - they know they haven't sold boatloads, but they're making the DLC free anyway simply because they appreciate the people who did buy it.

In fact I didn't even make a single statement about money, just that the approach isn't inherently flawed. Building goodwill in consumers is a long term game, and a move like this will win them big points that they can later put towards a console outing that does sell. Your mistake here is that you're not looking at the bigger picture.

Oh for the love of... here we go.

...I somehow doubt that you do. But okay, I'll bite: Sonic-only because....?

...that's a poor reason. Half of the cast are about as strong, if not stronger than Sonic anyway, so that pretty much casts aside that argument. That's like saying Tails never had courage, or Knuckles is somehow not strong enough, or that Shadow, someone who is on par with Sonic in almost every field, is not as brave and strong as Sonic. None of what you just said there is factual.

Sonic may have a strong resolve, but he isn't the only character capable of dishing out a beating.

That's not really relevant. Shadow was relevant in Sonic Adventure 2, but you're implying that he shouldn't have taken place in the final fight against the Biolizard because the games are "about Sonic?" The games are about whatever the plot darn well writes them to be about. Sonic gets his just dues quite enough as it is. If another character is relevant, then they have every right to have focus and take place in a final boss fight if the plot wills it.

When was that ever a problem?

    No, really?

When on these forums has anyone ever made a case for the almighty Sonic to be cast from his high throne so the peasant foxes and echidnas can roam free and taint the land? That's simply untrue.

Listen, I know you seem to have a hard time understanding that there are other characters that people like aside from Sonic, but you really need to stop and think about what you're saying before you post. You're making an issue out of something that wasn't an issue to begin with. Literally no one here is saying that Sonic needs to be usurped and replaced with other characters taking the spotlight.

    Nobody.

I don't know where or when you got that idea in your head, but it's demonstrably wrong. You cannot equate someone having a character they like or want to see have development or be featured with them wanting Sonic to stop being the main character. No one here is saying this.

    Nobody.

And on that note, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having other characters take part in a final battle if they're willing and able. If they play an essential role in the plot and the story dictates that they help Sonic take out the bad guy, then they are going to help Sonic take out the bad guy.

Otherwise you end up with nonsensical final boss scenarios where almost every character shows up simply to cheer Sonic on when they're all clearly able to stuff their technicolor shoes into Eggman's mustache.

Ironically, Roger van der Weide's video on Sonic Generations illustrated it best.

So, with all due respect, I have to reject your baseless assumption that anyone not wanting Sonic to be the only character to receive any development or focus is somehow blasphemous to the series. And I also reject your statement that Sonic should be the only character to ever fight the final boss.

Simply saying that the series is "about Sonic" and "he's the bravest and strongest and best ever" is not enough to convince anyone here. The series is very multifaceted and diverse, you can't expect any meaningful expansion or development of series lore and mythos if you only focus on Sonic, especially when there's a wealth of other characters in need of serious fleshing out and development.

Why wouldn't they give us a 25th Anniversary game? We've had anniversary games for every 5 years (3D Blast, Adventure 2, '06, Generations), so why wouldn't we get a new one for the 30th?

I agree with everything else you said though. I'd love a game on the scale of Unleashed, as opposed to Colors, Gens, and Lost World. Big story, great gameplay (albeit controversial in Unleashed's case), plenty of stages and post-game content, new and fun/big characters, and hopefully more than one playable character (no new Sonic transformations OR Wisps please, thank you). Amazing music and looks are a given of course, seeing as it's a SEGA/Sonic Team game.

Oh, and PC port please, not console exclusive. Generations did it right.

If there's one thing I feel is in issue with the voice acting in the trailer, I feel like Roger Craig Smith has a hard time with showing worry/sadness in the Sonic voice. It usually comes off rather corny and strained ("BAIL TAILS BAAAIL"). While I adore Smith's voice work, and feel he's doing a fine job on most regards, it seems like it's something he needs to work on. Hopefully Sonic Boom allows him to practice that bit.

This concerns me too. If next year's game is a new All Stars spinoff, then the game released in 2016 has to blow our minds. It's Sonic's 25th and they're obviously not going to do another Anniversary game since we had one only 5 years before. I want it to be something on the scale of Sonic Unleashed without all the dumb gimmicks; great story, great characters, great level design (not too much QTE and boost2win though pls), great music and above all, next gen graphics!

I swear if we don't get any of that in Sonic's next gen outing, I'm never trusting Sonic Team again. =P

Made by Traveller's Tales and Activision for Nintendo 64, PlayStation, Dreamcast and PC.

10 levels (actually 15 if you count the boss levels) that follows the plot of Toy Story 2 and the voyage of Buzz & co., from Andy's house to the Airport.

The gameplay has some Super Mario 64 vibes (with collectibles -Pizza Tokens instead of Stars- coins, mini-bosses etcetera), combined with incredible level design (after playing Andy's House and Al's Penthouse levels, for a while I started imagine my and other's houses as Toy Story 2 levels with unpredictable resaults) and a kickass soundtrack
