  1. why call something by it's foreign title when it has a name in your language

    1. Sonic Fan J

      Sonic Fan J

Admittedly I do it if I primarily partake in the subject through more direct translations or if I know that the title in my language is horribly misrepresentative of what I'm engaging with.

    2. Diogenes

      some names are dumb

    3. Ferno

im not calling it mew mew power

    4. Polkadi~☆

      ok i'll grant that

i meant examples when a series is given an official english name (not 4kids), but people still use the foreign name

    5. Legosi (Tani Coyote)

      Legosi (Tani Coyote)

On one hand, it helps inform context. "Panzer" instead of "German tank."

On the other, it's noticeable that not all cultures get equal treatment. Why is the trickster called "Coyote" and not "Atse'hashke'?" Or, to be more generic, Ma'ii?

    6. E-van

Honestly it just depends on which name I like the best

    7. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

Mostly because its what people are most used to.

And yeah some names are really stupid and/or long in English when they do have nicknames.

    8. Ferno

I will say though that if the name is simply a straight-forward translation like My hero academia then I'll just use the english one. I feel like anything further tends to cause atleast a little confusion. For example, I didn't know that Pretty Cure was already being distributed in the west, because I didn't know that it and "Glitter Force" were the same thing for the longest time.
