  2. I actually saw this panel out of context way before I had actually caught up with the book

Man I really hope they turn Hob around.

    1. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

Same. To say Hob has taken a gigantic step towards jerkass is an understatement. They effectively written him and the Mutanimals to be the next big arc villains, like Shredder and the Foot. Most of the group isn't even around anymore, the majority of them left Hob, with only one or two sticking around.

    2. Zaysho

      Zaysho

Yeah, I can see that. I sort of get why he took this turn following what happened with Bishop and Slash but now it feels like he's becoming what Bishop or Stockman are. The only thing I can see really changing his direction again is when Null finally does something.

    3. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

Yeah, I can get why he'd go down this route, but at this rate, he's becoming more like a villain, and I don't know how they're gonna recover him.

And thus, Gerald was inspired to begin writing down his hypothesis for containing animals and using them to power devices, which his grandson later read and warped to fit his cruel intentions.

  4. I think Magmortar is the only Pokemon that evolves through trade that I'm not bothered I don't get to use compared to other trade evos

    1. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Magmortar is such a disappointment. Electivire is so cool, but Magmortar is just so ugly... Same with Rhyperior. A number of the Gen IV evos have bafflingly bad designs.

    2. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

A Fire type that can learn Thunderbolt for coverage is amazing but its wasted on both an ugly design and rather underwhelming stats.

The only benefit from Magmortar is the fact it makes Magmar bulky via Evoivite. Magmar actually is more viable because of this.

    3. Zaysho

      Zaysho

Yeah, I think Magmortar and Lickiliki are the worst of them. I'm not crazy about Rhyperior or Electivire either, but I don't really mind them as much. A lot of those evos just seem  unnecessary in hindsight. The only one that comes to mind as good is probably Magnezone.

@Crow the BOOLET I always forget about Eviolite, so I suppose there's at least one upside to it haha

    4. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

The evolutions are a buff in different ways don't get me wrong but they're really hit or miss.

They're Pokemon that benefited from getting brand new evolutions but the Gen 1 ones suffered a bit from a number of factors, namely poor stats. The Gen 2 ones really needed the buff because most of them were stage one mons. And due to Eviolite Murkrow and Misdreavus are actually usable too.

...And there's Dusknoir who's outclassed by its own pre-evolution in a weird turn of events.

I do kind of Rhyperior and Electrive design wise but I do think their pre-evos looked better. Its just GF being bad at balancing things and just adding a bit too much.

    5. Zaysho

      Zaysho

Yeah I agree. I think I'd prefer if most Pokemon got pretty major stat overhauls and redesigned movepools tbh. I think it'd help the older gens keep up with the newer ones better but I also think it's good when some of the one stage mons like Misdreavus and Murkrow get that kind of boost. I've been getting the impression the first three gens just don't really have as beneficial stats as they could have compared to ones from the later five.

I'm not much of a competitive player so I admit this has more to do with disliking some of the designs themselves.

    6. Crow the BOOLET

      Crow the BOOLET

Its fine if you don't like a design to be honest. I do feel like the Gen 1 evolutions are a bit overdesigned myself since there's a lot more details on them. I still kind of like them though but that's probably because I'm too optimistic/naive about the series.

I do like how they're at least experimenting more with newer evolutions of older Pokemon though. They don't look as bad as the Gen 4 Gen 1 ones (weird I know) but they also needed a buff too.

It's unfair how adorable Flareon is when Game Freak made it fucking useless

This is me with the pidgey line to be honest.

    2. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Is Flareon still useless as of Gen VIII? IIRC it's issue was being a physically-based fire-type with mostly special attacks in its movepool.

    3. Dejimon11

Where's my fighting eeveelution called "champeon"?

    4. Zaysho

      Zaysho

@Blue Blood Not sure about Gen 8, but it's had stuff like Flame Charge and Flare Blitz sine Gen 6. Think its main issue is its lack of speed and poor defense, and even with some physical fire moves its movepool is still pretty shallow

    5. iambitter21

      iambitter21

I love Flareon, even if he's considered useless I love using it in battle.

    6. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

@Zaysho I wish shit like that mattered even a little bit in the single player story.

    7. Zaysho

      Zaysho

True. I mostly just fiddle around with the battle centers these days because it's kind of fun to come up with movesets and team builds, but even with the main story it's almost always better to just use whatever hits hard and moves fast (mostly with the newer games).

  6. I'm blaming Polkadi and Ryan for inadvertently reminding me that Nickelodeon still refuses to re-release the 2003 TMNT series.

Well to be fair, we’ve got Seasons 1-3 on ITunes UK, might be worth taking a look on the ITunes Store and seeing if they’re available there.

    3. Zaysho

      Zaysho

Yeah, I think it's available on Amazon Video over here. I've been hoping for a new physical release for a few years when 2012 ended but I probably have to give up on that eventually. Kinda kicking myself for never getting Funi's discs way back in the day.

    4. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

No chance for the UK, we didn’t even get the final season of 2012. We got Seasons 1-4, and then just that one random Halloween volume.

    5. Zaysho

      Zaysho

Huh, that's pretty surprising. Though, if I'm not mistaken, the last season got shunted off to Nicktoons or something since it didn't air on normal Nick over here either. I think they basically did to it what they did with Korra but I'm not 100% sure. That sucks it's incomplete in the UK though.

  7. can Nintendo fans just admit they're bored and only care about hype than keep acting like Nintendo is fucked because all their plans were obviously delayed

The second we get another Direct they're just gonna be mad some rumor that was floating around YouTube and 4chan isn't mentioned anyway.

    1. Blue Blood

Lol I'm glad I'm so out the loop sometimes. It's a tad annoying that the Nintendo (and Sonic) front is so dead right now, but idc cause like I have a life. There's just the odd status on here that makes me roll my eyes. Seems like there's a very vocal group who are being their question their grasp on reality now that it's almost a year since the last Direct.

      Dejimon11

This is why revolving your channel around 1 specific brand is a bad idea.

  8. Guess I'm caught up on TMNT now. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the current direction but it's a refreshing change of pace from the status quo.

    1. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

I wasn't a big fan of the City At War arc, and I have to admit, even the current stuff with Mutant Town is kinda meh to me, but hot fucking damn I wouldn't be lying if I said I was super invested in the turtles being emotionally torn apart and having to come together again.

    2. Zaysho

      Zaysho

City at War kinda wore thin around the end to me, honestly. I assume part of it was because parts of the storyline were referencing things I hadn't read (mostly TMNT Universe), but I think I would've disliked it a lot more if I hadn't at least read Shredder in Hell beforehand. It's a weird thing where it feels like they wanted #100 to be this momentous turning point like #50 was, but the pacing was way off to me, but I also wouldn't have wanted it to drag on more. I'm also not crazy about what Hob is up to since he's my favorite character and I'm annoyed he's just gone full dirtbag now. I get it's kind of an overreaction to what happened with Slash but I don't see him coming around.

Something that did get me, in that same bit you were referencing, was seeing that Saki's taken to watching over the Turtles. I'm really interested in what becomes of him now that he's back.

    3. Ryannumber1gamer

      Ryannumber1gamer

I absolutely agree with City at War. To me, it feels like there’s not enough story, yet too much at the same time, if that makes sense? It doesn’t feel as tightly paced as the lead up to 50 was. I like Jennika well enough, but her being the driving point for the first part of it was kinda eh. It didn’t feel as good of a build up as Donnie doubting his brothers’ ability to look at the wider scope beyond their feud with Shredder, and the ultimate consequence of getting his shell smashed and nearly killed.

Karai was also another character who just went full scumbag like Hob as well, which was disappointing to me.

    4. Zaysho

      Zaysho

I wasn't really into Jennika getting mutated when I first heard about it. When she was introduced she didn't really have a personality up until she got together with Casey and I warmed up to her around then. I'm actually enjoying how they've handled her so far after her mutation.

And yeah, Karai was another thing I didn't like either. I assume it's explained in Universe, but it still felt forced. Kinda goes back to the weird pacing issues City at War had with stuff split off from other stories and trying to tie it all together just in time to close out the chapter. Since she's free of that sword, and Saki's (presumably) a good guy now, it might redirect her (though I guess there's the whole thing with the Foot buying mutants from Hob so... probably not).

Mutant Town at least feels like a break the book's been needing so I'm giving it a chance to see what I think of it. All that said, I sorta want to re-read the book from the beginning and see how my impression of it has changed.

  10. I don't really buy or read monthly comics nowadays, at least not when they release, and looking at the prices I'm glad I don't anymore. I don't know why I put up with it as long as I did.

    2. Strickerx5

      Strickerx5

Even as a kid I questioned the whole thing. Like, I would really only venture into the local comic store when it was comic day or something. Otherwise I'd pass by it and think to myself "It's hard for me to keep up with tv shows that I get on tv for free, why should I pay money to read a chapter in a story I know I won't stick to?" I don't know if this speaks higher to my money saving habits or to my inability to keep up with shit. Probably both.

    3. Zaysho

      Zaysho

I dunno about that. In the 90s, comics really never crossed $2. Maybe for special, double-sized issues, but I think that was a decent price for what I got back in the day. I really didn't start buying them again until college and then for years after when the prices were getting hiked up (usually $3-4, which they've more or less hovered around for the last ten years as far as I know); same amount of content but for much more.

I think there are other reasons that play into it in my case, though. I used to love reading comics--still kind of do--because I was interested in the medium and studied it for the art. And as much as I still enjoy that kind of thing, comics just aren't worth the price anymore unless they're collected editions or I can get them on sale.

  15. I took a rough count of my physical Sonic games today, and while I think there's a few scattered around not totally accounted for (and excluding some digital releases on PC/Wii/Switch), there's at least 32 of them.

    How did this happen

I'm actually both surprised and not

    1. Zaysho

      Zaysho

Listing it out because I'm bored

      Genesis:

      -Sonic 1
      -Sonic 2
      -Sonic 3
      -Sonic & Knuckles
      -Sonic Spinball
      -Sonic 3D Blast
-Knuckles' Chaotix (a 32X game but I'm counting it here)

      Game Gear:

      -Sonic 2 8-bit
      -Sonic Chaos
      -Sonic Triple Trouble
      -Sonic Labyrinth
      -Sonic Drift 2
      -Tails Adventure

Dreamcast/Gamecube/GBA/PS2 (lumped together as one gen):

      -Sonic Adventure (DC)
      -Sonic Adventure 2 (DC)
      ---------
      -SA2 Battle (GCN)
      -Sonic Advance (GBA)
      -SA DX Director's Cut (GCN)
      -Sonic Advance 2 (GBA)
      -Sonic Mega Collection (GCN)
      -Sonic Heroes (GCN)
      -Shadow the Hedgehog (GCN)
-Sonic Gems Collection (US GCN and JP PS2)

      Wii/DS/360:

      -Sonic Rush
      -Sonic and the Secret Rings
      -Sonic Rush Adventure
      -Sonic Unleashed (Wii and 360)
      -Sonic and the Black Knight
      -Sonic Colors (Wii)
      -Sonic Generations (360)

      Wii U:

      - Sonic Lost World

-Digital stuff and older PC releases aren't being counted at the moment (most recent one would be Mania back in 2017)
-Stacks of Archie comics and the first year run of IDW
      -Some soundtracks

Might be weird to say but I'm satisfied and don't feel like I really need to add more at this point. There's a few soundtracks I wish I tracked down but the older I get I look at all this and the memories I have with this series and I'm happy. If I never pick up another new Sonic game or media release again to add to all this I don't think I'll be disappointed about it.

Sonic 1's honestly a pretty fun little platformer. Some levels might go on too long and it has some annoying pacing but I think I prefer it to Sonic 2, overall (which starts strong but gets progressively more annoying in the second half), though like most my favorite Genny Sonic is still 3/& Knuckles.

  17. Playing Celeste the last couple of days is the most at ease I've been in months. It's not an easy game, but even as I'm racking up deaths I always feel encouraged to keep going and it's really satisfying figuring out a particular room's puzzle. While I normally get tired of looking at pixel art games after a while, I found the graphic design and art direction of the game stunning to see in motion. Only real complaint is some sections just drag on more than they need to but otherwise I've really enjoyed it.

    1. spinny

      spinny

Celeste goes hard, definitely my favourite game in the "pixel indie platformer" genre. It's difficult but it doesn't feel like it genuinely goes out of its way like some other games do lol -cough-supermeatboy-cough-
