An assortment of different things people are upset about are happening at once. People are mad that Rise of the TMNT is being taken off the air and that a Ren and Stimpy reboot is happening that'll assuredly give John K. residuals.

It's a clusterfuck of things people are upset about. Announcing Patrick getting a show as yet another spit take on Steven Hillenburg's grave and his wishes wasn't a good way to combat the anger.

Wait wasn't there news that there was gonna be a show about Squidward or was that false?

  8. I had a dream where you could play as Eggman in his Eggmobile through a level in a 3D Sonic game and the objective was to fly and slam into Sonic as he was grinding through a level and send him flying off the rail and into a building. It was great. Someone should make that.

  9. God, I fucking love Sonic Heroes. I had to force myself to stop playing once I finally could again after not having a room for almost a month.

Still the only game I can play as the Modern Chaotix. I've played it so often I've memorized where every hermit crab and Grand Metropolis robot is.

  10. Genocide City is the literal best name for a Sonic the Hedgehog stage.

  11. Somehow the Sonic stream just got removed from Youtube for violating Youtube's terms of service despite the fact that it didn't even properly start yet. So that's neat.

Honestly PC gaming isn't in the best place right now and you're probably better off hanging back until something new is announced with GPUs.

    2. Dr. Mike Acula

      Dr. Mike Acula

I don't even know what that means.

I just wanna play games on a computer or a laptop cause I think it'd be kind of fun to try.

    3. CleverSonicUsername

      CleverSonicUsername

Basically, there's not much to be had with PC gaming right now that you wouldn't be able to get from the new consoles. PC has become less and less the leap ahead of console gaming that it used to be. That said, if it's still appealing to you, I say go for it.

You can use resources like PC Parts Picker to figure out what kind of build you want. It's probably best to take a look at some of the options they list on this page and figure out which is most suited to your needs. They'll list all the parts you'll need, meaning you won't need to worry about compatibility, and they provide links to where you can buy them. As far as putting it all together, I had a friend help me out, so I don't know of any really good video tutorials, but you could probably look and ask around about that.

    4. Dr. Mike Acula

      Dr. Mike Acula

I mean, can I play all those fan games I keep hearing about on consoles? Can I play all those cool mods on consoles? If there's a way to do that on console can I be let known because as long as that's the case, I'm not seeing why the interest wouldn't still be there.

But thanks. I'll do some research and see what I can do.

    5. CleverSonicUsername

      CleverSonicUsername

That's a fair point. I do think from the price perspective that right now, personally, I don't see much that would entice me to build a new PC from the ground up, but if you have enough compelling you, then I really do think you should go for it. Building PCs is pretty fun after you get past that initial wall of figuring out where to even begin, and I've taken to building Raspberry Pis to satisfy that itch on a more affordable level.

Edit: Also I apologize if I came off like a dick or dismissive. Ultimately, I don't want to discourage you.

I'm no expert myself, but I do have a gaming PC. I got my PC from CyberPowerPC, though I will warn that most PC experts recommend building your own since it's cheaper. Unless you get an extremely good deal, you likely won't find a decent gaming PC under a $1,000 dollars. It took me years to save up for one. Besides that, there are lots of guides and Youtube videos to help you find a gaming PC within your budget.

      Good luck!

  13. Gotta stay off Twiiter for a bit. I scare easily and worry far longer so the endless fead of "If your black, you're in danger" is gonna warp my mind a bit too much.

  14. Tikal is coming to Sonic Forces on mobile. Thats another awesome update exclusive to another mobile Sonic game.

One day, I may be 60 years old on that day but ONE DAY, they'll do this kind of roster for a console game.

    1. Sega DogTagz

      Sega DogTagz

I still find it hard to fathom that TSR did not have this kind of roster.

Obvious bait for a follow up tho

    2. Dr. Mike Acula

      Dr. Mike Acula

That makes us opposites then because when TSR was announced, I was thinking that at most the roster would stop at like 8 or 10 characters.

Yeah, I had very little faith back there. 15 still isn't acceptable but I can not lie, it was still more than I gave them credit for.

    3. The Tenth Doctor

      The Tenth Doctor

So they picked up Runners large roster then?

      "Waits for Mephiles and Marine..."

  15. Just saw this really awful clickbait article. "Sega Prepares Console Comeback, and they're about to Get Wrecked!"

I usually ignore these but this one sounded so funny I gave them what they wanted and clicked.

These are the three bullet points at the start of the article:

"1. One journalist is teasing some big Sega news for June 4th.

    2. June 3rd is the group's 60th Anniversary.

    3. Could Sega be prepping to re-enter the console war?"

You got that. Some other journalist said Sega's got news coming. Also the 60th anniversary is coming up. And then he just re-states the question.

"Considering June 3rd is Sega's 60th anniversary, there's reason to think the company is re-entering the hardware game."

I don't need to explain to you all why there totally isn't reason to think that at all. The article just goes on about how terrible of an idea it would be and doesn't provide any proof or viable information as to why. The closest they get to doing so is when they talk about Sega Shiro, the son of Segata Sanshiro who promoted the Saturn.

"Why follow up a marketable character if you're not following up on the product he was meant for? It's almost as if Sega is gearing up for a big advertising push." it says.

Yeah, geez. You know it's almost as if it's their 60th Anniversary and that would call for a big advertising push.

    It's kind of hilarious.

The five comments on the article all point out how shit it is so no one's falling for it but it doesn't matter. So long as they get the clicks, it's all good.

I won't be deliberately giving them clicks anymore but doing it once was good for a laugh.

Do these journalist even know SEGA was a thing before console video games were, or do they subconsciously think it's been 60 years since SEGA's Golden Age in the 90s?

    4. A wild west steam engine

      A wild west steam engine

It was so BS my phone blocked the article from opening when I clicked on it.

  16. Someone asked for more Chaotix merch on stream and the guy in charge of that stuff was like, "Yeah. I could use more Charmy stuff."

Then they were like "The Chaotix are a really great team. I could totally go for more Chaotix stuff."

Ah. My heart. It's like that part of the video was cosmically written for me.

  17. Aaron Webber said on the stream that the focus going forward is to spend more time on games. So I'm guessing the 4 year waits probably aren't going away... which I'm honestly cool with so long as the wait is worth it.

@Blue BloodYou know, it's been so long between games I've lost a lot of interest in the franchise.

    4. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

@PlasmeI love Mania. Whilst not "perfect", it's basically the Sonic game I'd been asking for since my childhood. It took 20 years to get it, and it was swiftly followed by what is perhaps my most disliked Sonic game of all time. In the almost three years since then, we've had one lackluster racing game and a movie that I'm not interested in watching. My interest in the series is also at an all-time low after it finally delivered what I was asking for and then went right back to be horse shit on a paper plate.

    5. Plasme

      Plasme

@Blue BloodYeah Mania is brilliant, and I think it's so good that it's made what might otherwise have been seen as "acceptable" games look a lot worse in comparison. Everyone else needs to step their game up.

    6. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

Yeah. Don't get me wrong. Forces would have been trash no matter when it was released and regardless of Mania existing. It's just that... the series took so friggin' long to deliver something that I truly wanted and it appears that that kind of attention was a one off. I don't mean a new classic Sonic game, I just mean a new Sonic game of any kind that hits all the right notes.

    7. Dr. Mike Acula

      Dr. Mike Acula

If it takes 20 years to get the 3D Sonic game I've been asking for than I guess I'll have mine by either 2022, 2023, 2026 or 2028.

    8. Plasme

      Plasme

Yeah I feel the same way. But I think even TSR wouldn't have been so criticised if Mania wasn't so good - say. I dunno tbh, just the impression I get.

  19. I'm finally ready to upgrade my drawing tablet to one of the ones where you can actually draw on a little screen on the tablet rather then the one I've been using where it's just a pad and the drawing shows up on the computer screen.

Searching for the right one to get, however, has been a chore and a half. It's intimidating and on top of that, I just recently bought Photoshop which I'm also going to have to learn to use.

I wanna be a better artist than I am right now and make the really good shit but it's tough finding the proper info to look into despite how much is out there. I wonder if there's anyone else on here who's in the same boat.

    1. Ferno

      Ferno

I would recommend the XP Pen brand. Low prices but decent quality. Heard Huion is good too for the same reason

    2. Sega DogTagz

      Sega DogTagz

I made the jump a few years back. Got a nice Huion on Black Friday and never looked back.

How much are you looking to spend?

    3. Dr. Mike Acula

      Dr. Mike Acula

The cheapest I can get is always the most viable option but if I have to get pricey I can see myself going as far as the 200-300 range.

    4. Sega DogTagz

      Sega DogTagz

I use the Kanvas pro model w/ a 16 inch screen. Those can get super pricey if they are not on sale.

The kanvas line also makes 13 inch models that are good, just smaller. you can nab one of the 13 Pro GTs for like 285 on Amazon.

I've worked with Huion and Waccoms. I think Huion is better because they constantly update their drivers and have a bit better build quality (I travel a lot and have to lug my huge tablet around with me).

If you can't find one that fits what you are looking for, I would hold off until Black Friday / Cyber Monday. I got my Kanvas for 1/2 off on an Amazon lightning deal. Brought a second one for my bro while I was at it.

    5. Dr. Mike Acula

      Dr. Mike Acula

I've only used Wacom tablets and only the ones where I draw on the pad and it appears on the computer. The wire of this one is breaking so upgrading is important.

Learning how to make the best use out of photoshop is going to be interesting when I get around to installing it. I also need to start working on how to do better lighting. I can get the coloring for my characters down in normal light but then I have to think about stuff like rainy days, and night time, and sunsets, and how to pull off making that look cool.

    6. Sega DogTagz

      Sega DogTagz

My old wacom was falling apart when I upgraded. Half the reason I gave Huion a go. The Waccom feels almost flimsy by comparison lol

Its all about experimentation with Photoshop. Try different brushes, tutorials and anything and everything that comes to mind. You can get great results in so many different ways.

I wouldn't trade my old copy of photoshop for the world. I just uninstall and re-install it on every new computer I get. The new photoshops are cloud based pay-for-subscription models. Hard pass.

    7. Sega DogTagz

      Sega DogTagz

I had one of the higher end Waccom Bamboo models.

  20. Smash Ultimate is a really great game that everyone finds a new reason to hate every single week. It's really fascinating and interesting looking at this from the other side as someone who's not super invested in the community side of things and just plays it on my own from time to time.

I'm trying to comprehend getting a Sonic & SEGA All-Stars game where I could play as over 70+ characters with the whole Sonic cast, including the ones left out of TSR, and all the features and constant updates on top of it... and being angry about anything extra they added. That amount of care being applied to the base game alone sounds like a dream to me.

Not saying they can't be disappointed in stuff but I'm surprised by how visceral the anger is in conjunction with how good the game is. Every week a Bylith problem or a Sonic problem will happen and it'll be treated like the worst thing ever and I'm just like... yeah. Okay but... TSR had 15 characters and no full Team Chaotix so...

... I'm just saying, if they're gonna be upset either way, could we trade roster sizes..? Maybe...?

Let's trade in the number of stages too. I'd like to cruise through some of the Jet Set Radio and House of the Dead tracks again please. Maybe throw in a better designed Burning Rangers track. Oh, and the After Burner one. Maybe get in a Persona one since SEGA have Atlus. I'd like that.

(I'm mostly being facetious here. Don't take this too seriously or personally.)

    1. I Have Berry!

      I Have Berry!

These people have every right to hate this really great game for one perfectly justified reason: It's an online Nintendo fighting game where Rollback netcode and dedicated servers are illegal, in an era where they're frankly considered the law everywhere else.

    2. Wraith

      Wraith

Play any game too much and you'll start to get irritated with it's limitations. A lot of Smash fans IMO just need to learn when to step away, but a lot of them either made or are trying to make it their source of income so..whoops?

    3. Mil-O-Lantern

      Mil-O-Lantern

@Wraith Guilty as charged TBH on the "need to learn when to step away" part. I'm not ranting about it on a daily basis or tried making it a source of income; but the amount of time playing Smash (Wii U/Ultimate) vs. playing other games (a good amount of which I haven't finished) has been disproportionate for the past few years.

    4. Wraith

      Wraith

If you're having fun that's another thing entirely IMO. Play as much as you want. Just realize when you've had enough

    5. DanJ86

      DanJ86

The hypothetical game you're describing sounds a lot like Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart. Was that a coincidence of deliberate? XD

I don't actually know much about it. It just looks like a game with tones of content in it.

      VhPt78R.png&key=ff8275f16f59b283f728e84b

I was also surprised by how vicious the Smash community can be, but since I tend to go about things at my own pace, I've never interacted with any of them.

  21. As someone who isn't super familiar with the Classic Sonic games due to very, very limited playthroughs (as in, I get to the second zone and die most of the time) I wasn't as familiar with its music so yesterday, while working, I just listened to Sonic 1, 2, CD (JP), 3&Knuckles soundtracks.

I think Sonic 2 has a better soundtrack than Sonic 1 but Sonic 1 I feel I would probably listen to more often. However, the Japanese Sonic CD Soundtrack is a fucking masterpiece. Where in the world was this funky menacing shit all my life.

Also, I wasn't too into the Sonic 3 & Knuckles soundtrack aside from Sandopolis and that was mostly because I liked the TSR remix already. Just didn't grab me. Not saying it was bad of course.

    1. Kuzu

      Kuzu

U shuld try Classic Sanic again; music is part of why it's so god tier.

    2. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

I think that the S3K soundtrack is brilliant, but it's quite a big change from the S1 and S2 soundtracks. No only are the obviously composed by different people just from the structure of the songs, but the sound driver itself received a big change that was admittedly quite jarring to me as a child (doubly so since I had the PC version of SK Collection which used MIDI recreations of the soundtrack). I don't know how best to describe it, but S3K is "bassier" and the instruments less electronic and digital than S1 and S2. You can infer the individual instruments of S3K much better, but they're not as crisp. I'm not suggesting that one is better than the other, just that they're really different as far as Mega Drive games go. Although I will say that Hydrocity Act 2 is one of my favourite tracks ever. The Mania version is more a remaster than a remix, and fuck is it good.

Another thing about the S3 half specifically if that there's a disconnect in style between the first three stages and the second three stages. Carnival Night, Ice Cap and Launch Base (along with a few others, like Knuckles' theme and the mini boss theme) were likely composed by Michael Jackson and/or his team. They're very different to rest of the tracks that were done in-house by SEGA, and even lack proper remixes for the second acts (the "remixes" generally just disable one of the instrument channels to make it sound a bit different). Just listen to Launch Base Act 2; Mega Drive version and prototype (/PC) version. The prototype version is so much better, imo. Although it's being played through an incomplete sound-driver that's halfway between S2 and S3 at this stage.

Have you listened to the S3D soundtrack? You should give it a go, both the MD version by Jun Senoue and the Saturn/PC version by Richard Jacques. Jacques actually modelled his version after CD. They're not exactly similar, but you can see the influence of it. It's a great soundtrack. And it's got so much energy and good feels! The S3D Mega Drive soundtrack has never sounded particularly good to me though. The instruments used are a mess. Everything is so artificial, bloopy and carnival-esque. And it's purely the instrumentation that I dislike, cause the various remixes in other games actually sound great.

Now for CD... the Japanese soundtrack blows the American one out of the water. The American soundtrack isn't bad, it's just a way too atmospheric, dark and electronic-rock focused for my tastes. It's often lacking the strong melodies that I like to her in Sonic game music. When you compare the red-hot, funky and affably evil sounding Japanese boss music of the Japanese version that you posted to the sinister, dark and moody American version, you get a pretty good impression of how different the two are. Or Quartz Quadrant American vs Japanese too. The American soundtrack just can't hold a candle.

    3. Thigolf

      Thigolf

Gene Gadget Saturn/PC is so fucking good, man. I adore the 3D Blast Saturn/PC OST, it's absolutely brilliant and severely underrated, which isn't too surprising given where the OST originated. It and the CD OST go neck in neck for me, both are just fantastic, for different reasons.

I also love Sonic 1 and 2 OST, particularly 2. 2 has one great tune after the other.

3 I'm also mixed on. When it's good, it's REALLY good, but a lot of tracks just go into a "Yeah, that's solid" direction for me. None of them are bad by any stretch, but a lot are, again, just good.

    4. TheOcelot

      TheOcelot

Also, recommend you listen to Knuckles Chaotix soundtrack which has some nice pieces:

    5. Dr. Mike Acula

      Dr. Mike Acula

@Blue Blood Thanks. Some of this stuff I knew already and some I didn't but its nice being informed either way. The Michael Jackson thing has been floating around the net for so long it's impossible to avoid. I did also look into some of the US tracks for CD and I was indeed underwhelmed. It's not even because it's dark, I eat that up. I prefer the dark over the light, always. It's just not as engaging. I went to check out the American version of the boss theme and it has a good beginning but then I realized that the entire rest of the track is basically just the beginning and it kind of disappointed me. Did the same for Quartz Quadrant and Metallic Madness. The Bad Future for Japanese Metallic Madness is excellent as well.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles has a soundtrack that I do recognize as being good. I can't remember them at the top of my head but when I go back and listen, the sound and melody will instantly come to my mind. My brain remembers them at least.  I think it might just be one of those tracks that I'd be able to appreciate more had I experienced it the same way you and a lot of others did. CD's tracks are just a perfect fit for me though.

I haven't gotten to Sonic 3D yet. I did like that track you linked me to though.

@TheOcelot I also listened to the entire Knuckles' Chaotix and Sonic the Fighters soundtracks yesterday as well. I didn't mention them because I didn't actually have a lot to say about them. Door into Summer I recognize from Generations and the rest sounded fine. Again, they weren't bad.

  22. Just saw Onward. Just like every Pixar movie (that isn't an unnecessary sequel/prequel) it was way better than the trailers made it look. Didn't think this one would get the tears going but... it did. Stories about brothers are my literal weakness.

  23. I finally got to see the Sonic movie and good golly Ms. Molly, I actually loved it. I've never felt so good being wrong about something.

      Yup, blew my expectations away!

  24. Written on the event calander at my job for Feburary, someone wrote for the 14th, "Sonic Movie Release".

      I Have Berry!

To be fair, it's a much less tiresome and dreadful thing to look forward than Valentine's Day would be anyway.

  25. I just got the Sonic Battle Racers game and I love that the box says to complete the boss and racer expansions "Plus, 13 MORE of your favorite characters - includibg STORM!"

Thank God they're including Storm specifically. He's always getting the shaft.

Hoping to give it a go this weekend, looking forward to a game or two.
