I wish I could be as upset about the whole dimension stuff, and don't get me wrong, it's fucking stupid. But I'm so disengaged with this series that I find it difficult to get upset about it. Especially since I know its only used as an excuse to justify for Classic Sonic merch in the future,.

This. Why is this so hard for SEGA to grasp? Two worlds? WTF kind of shit is that? It doesn't help that Angel Island takes place in both worlds. With the humans and animals co-existing, it creates a consistent setting. Add in how they came to be and you've worldbuilding taken care of.

I'd just do what post-reboot Archie did and have it so that stylized humans and anthropomorphic animals co-exist on a single planet based on Unleashed's geography.

I was gonna make a final version of my prediction of what he'll look like now that I'm back home and have access to my drawing tablet and SAI, but I think I'll just let this image speak for itself. This is pretty much what I was trying to get across.

Nobody fuckin caaaares, dude. Sonic isn't a real thing. He was never designed to be biologically accurate. Giving him a buff little man's body doesn't actually make the superhumanly fast talking blue hedgehog biologically realistic.

Unleashed looked close enough to matching Sonic and gang in style to me, I wouldn't call that a fail. They were just as cartoony as Eggman is.... which should always be a example of who to match humans to. A classic looking disney-ish style seems about right to me.

You're 100% right, just because it is ridiculous doesn't mean it has to be realized in a ridiculous way. That said, adapting Sonic by discarding everything about him from his design and native completely free from constraints medium is itself realizing the vision in a rather ridiculous way. A cartoon hedgehog can hold a more serious tone as proven in series with games like Adventure 2 without a need to turn him into something he is not; a real world creature. He's not designed to fit in the real world and was not created with that intention. Market research or no, changing him in such a way is pretty ridiculous. Next there going to Bugs Bunny or heck, if we want to be ridiculous let's say they'll do a Puyo Puyo live action adaption where the titular slimes are all human shaped body builders who talk like Venom. It's total ridiculousness but if it's realized in a serious manner it can surely be taken seriously.
True, though his proportions and design are significantly more abstract and whimsical. The turtles and Superman especially still use human proportions so when they are adapted using human proportions no one bats an eye. Even Rocket in the MCU is adapted primarily from making an actual racoon bipedal, which doesn't take a lot of effort since racoons will stand on their hind legs and Rocket's design is still primarily based on a real racoon. Sonic on the other hand is designed without human proportions at all so when he is adapted to have human proportions it is seen as strange and unusual.
Sorry if I'm coming across in a passive-aggressive fashion here, but I'm primarily trying to make it obvious to see why people don't find your example convincing by using extremes to make it easier to see. You seem to have a hard time seeing the problem when it is described with calm logic so I figured perhaps an extreme example would make it easier to see. Giving a character who does not have human anatomy human anatomy as the basis for realistic just seems like a cheap cop and undermines the point to the character's design. Though, since noodle limbs are part of Sonic's design and you say they can't work in a live action setting I actually have a question for you. If I'm not misremembering you praised the Pokémon movie for it's realistic adaptions. As those are actually source material accurate, including the noodle limbs of Mr. Mime, I'm curious about your thoughts on it. Like Sonic, Mr. Mime is a fantastical creature and has noodle limbs as part of it's design that are being used in a live action adaption so I'm sure they must bother you. If not I'd like to hear what makes Mr. Mime different from Sonic and why it's fine for him to have noodle limbs and be source material accurate in a live action movie and not Sonic.

Are you a paid representative of Paramount and/or Sega? Because no one else is required to defend a probably-shitty videogame movie.
You don't like that people don't like what you do, even though your basis for liking it is based on just as little as those people? Build a bridge and get over it. You want this place to not become an echo chamber? Express your opinions about why you like it. Maybe they will be challenged, but no one will try to shout you down for having them.

But this complaining about other people thinking what we've seen so far looks like shit? That thing that as far as I can tell is all you and Bucket have been doing here?  That stops now.

And yes, if a thread was made where people were only allowed to echo chamber nice things about what we've seen about the movie, it would be merged back into this one.

Don't. This happens all the time.
Something which looks bad gets people saying it looks bad for X Y and Z.
Then if it continues to look bad people who like it claim the forum is Toxic.
But if the thing starts to look good, people usually change their minds. That's the part people tend to ignore.

    Wow this movie
Everything is pointing to it being a disaster. The thing that bothers me a lot about the "Don't judge it yet" arguments is that they just never seem to have an end. I went through this with people in 2014. Saw the Sonic Boom designs. Thought it was gonna suck. I was told that there wasn't a trailer yet, so I can't judge it. The trailer came out, still thought it was gonna suck. Was told it's still early in development, so don't judge it yet. We drew closer to release, still thought it was gonna suck. It's not out yet, so, don't judge it. Came out, and it sucked just like most people guessed it would. Well, don't judge it just yet, maybe more patches are coming!
The whole point of promotional material and dropping info is to sell people on your product. And absolutely nothing they've shown or said about this movie inspires any sort of confidence.
This design, as late as I am to the party on this just...is everything wrong with this venture. I echo the sentiments of a lot of people and say, you should've just let Marza go full animated with it, but it's too late for that.
At worst, this movie will be a bomb that makes everyone groan and another black mark on the franchise, at best, it'll be an annoying CGI cringe-fest like the Yogi Bear movie or 2014 Turtles that will go down in history as "One of those weird things Sega tried one time"

I also want to add that SEGA's CEO has gone on record hoping that this movie will help bring success for the franchise.

I don't think that it's gonna kill the series or anything like that but yeah probably not the best idea in hindsight.

So many franchises would kill to have what Sonic had. There was enough good will under the belt of this series to last him a millenium. You don't get to fuck up this hard this often and still stick around if the makings of something truly incredible with the potential to last pretty much forever wasn't there in some manner.
So much of that has been squandered away with each new thing they do. Sometimes they'll accidentally find people who know what they're doing to work on their shit. They'll find an Ian Flynn to write their own characters better than they currently could. They'll find a Taxman to make a good 2D game that fans would readily call Sonic 4 over the actual Sonic 4 the company made. They'll find a Tee Lopes who can make really good music for Classic Sonic and not that weird, chicken-scratch synth from the Green Hill Zone in Forces. There's probably even someone out there, right now, who has the skills to make a good 3D Sonic game that's just waiting to give themselves over to them for the sake of the franchise. Even Sumo Digital, despite TSR's shortcomings, are still impressing me more with their ability to create spin-offs for them, despite the ones working on TSR being a group of newbies to this Racing series.
However, the overabundance of incompetence from their end just makes it too much of a once in a blue moon situation. Sonic Team is incredibly passionless now. Watching the SGB playthrough of Sonic Unleashed is really putting into perspective just how much Sonic Forces didn't give a shit when it came to level design and presentation. They hand off their shit to people who don't know what the fuck they're doing or meddle with their projects in ways that don't help or don't make any sense. Hearing all the horrible decision making that SEGA had a hand in behind Big Red Button's development of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric made me feel sorry for the man in charge of that development team. And now here comes along Sonic-Man, out from Sonic 06, to bare his ass in theaters nationwide in an example of them not interfering making things worse.
It's like they suck at doing anything. When they meddle with someone they make things worse. When they don't do anything they make things worse. It's almost as if they don't know when to do which.
If Taxman and the team he worked with are good at making a game, don't force them to put in Green Hill and Chemical Plant so that the only major complaint people had with Mania was an idea that came from the incompetent side of corporate.

If Hollywood's turning your gaming icon into an abomination, step in and keep that from happening. I was already shocked when I heard in one of the Iizuka interviews for Sonic Boom that it hurt him to see the characters get redesigned the way they were but now this? Aren't you guys in charge? Did you feel you had no choice? Were you convinced that turning Sonic into something you hated and thought looked like shit was going to be what salvaged him?
It's no wonder Forces was just an amalgamation of "Shit we think the Sonic fans like".
Someone, somewhere once said they liked Wisps, Classic Sonic, 2D, 3D, Characters, Darker Stories, Light-hearted stories, Serious villains, Deviantart, Green Hill, and Chemical Plant so we're just gonna get the Swedish Chef to toss all of that shit into a blender, regardless of the original context for these concepts, and expect it not to clash at all.
It all comes down to me just yelling "Get your shit together" over and over again into the ether. At this point, they're not going to. It's even more far-fetched that Sonic will be given away to someone who could take better care of him.
I'll always love the Sonic series. The corporate entity in charge of overseeing him though? Nope. No love lost there. I feel for the people on the bottom rung who probably want to work to make Sonic good but can't because the structure of this thing is too fucked for them to do anything about it. These people in charge are fresh out of the benefit of the doubt from me.
I'm just so confused. In what reality does one look at this fucking circus and not try harder to fix it? You're out of passion, you're out of sincerity, you're out of ideas, and eventually you'll be out of time.

You know, this whole "stop overreacting, Sonic can survive anything" mindset only works in the parallel universe where every new Sonic project has standards and expectations reset to zero and past fiascos automagically no longer exist.
Can you name the last time a Sonic game sold more than one million copies worldwide? How about two million copies worldwide? What about three million?
Sonic Boom, launched in late 2014, was supposed to be a reinvention of the Sonic brand for new audiences. We're at the end of 2018, where has that venture gone now?
If the Sonic series proceeded to put out at least one monumental disaster every year for the next five years, back to back, do you really think that the franchise would still be getting any new games? Or any new projects at all?
The reality we live in has a fascinating concept of having people gradually stop supporting products they don't think is worth their time and money--from the critics that review them, to the consumers that pay for them, to even the producers that fund them. Even juggernaut franchises that are "too big to fail" eventually get caught up in some sort of backlash and start feeling the effects.
You know would what would be better than being able to survive putting out trash? Not needing to survive the results of putting out trash in the first place. And you can easily accomplish that by not putting out trash.
Stop framing the series' inability to ingloriously implode after constantly churning out terrible projects as something we should be grateful for. Hundreds of other series have managed that just fine without continuing to make mistakes, let alone making an outright bad product in the first place.

Making Sonic's design more realistic will always play against itself and never makes sense, period. You committed to make Sonic closer to a realistic hedgehog, okay, fine. But hedgehogs don't wear sneakers. Neither are blue or speak english. The whole concept of making him "fit" the human world is wrong, because it will never fit realistically. Like Oshima said, he's a fantasy/cartoon character and should stay as one. Heck, this could've worked well if they based his design on the source material instead of the real animal. Next they're gonna make "Tail" (this ain't a typo) because in the real world, foxes don't have 2 tails, lol
They failed hard. Dis gun be so bad.
