  1. Onw of many problems  with Last Jedi, is folk trying to act like the idea of anybody being able to wield the force is some groundbreaking idea that it created. Which all falls apart the moment you realize that the prequels already did that en masse well before that movie.

Come to think of it, that's another thing that Episode IX forgot/ignored, what happened to the rise of force sensitive people?
It's weird how now i'm more interested in the side material because that will probably be used to explain good stuff that the new trilogy only alluded at best.

    2. Wraith

      Wraith

The prequels introduced midichlorians which tied Force sensitivity to genetics in the first place. That's why Palpatine was able to wipe out the Jedi.

The Last Jedi instead puts forward the idea that if the force truly moves through everything than it can come from anywhere, even from a family of drunk traders who couldn't be further from spirituality

@Wraith Ehhh. Midichlorians at the end of the day are more so just a glorified power rater.

Even with that, the prequels pre-dated Last Jedi in anybody being able to wield the force no matter the background.

Heck, the expanded universe,  Rebels (which is outside the prequel era) and several over side material bits covered that to boot.

      The Deleter

I don't remember anyone going on about the broom kid having force powers or anything, just Rey and the whole deal with her heritage. It made a decent arc for the character herself to go through, wanting purpose and answers to be told to her, but realizing she has to deal with it and make her own purpose herself, and it also reflected the fans expectations that it would all tie in to some ancient plot twist somehow. Nothing like "she was the first person to use the force outside of a lineage!", more like a spiderverse-esque message of anyone can be a hero, it doesn't matter where they came from - and expecting the universe to reveal some "predestined!" significance around that after the fact is a silly expectation to have, both in-universe and outside.

There's nothing wrong with covering the theme in a mainline film. It's not like the prequel series treated Jedi outside of the core known from the previous series as anything but fodder.

I don't think asking in Japanese will help. You never know though.

  3. Man oh man. Watching this after having seen Rise of Skywalker is unbelievably hilarious in hindsight!

Total accident, it's meant to be a self-portrait.

  6. Woah. Didn't know the Jonas Bros were still a big deal. Thanks for letting me know Miami.

  7. And just like that, it is officially 2020!

Two more hours for me. I don't go by East Coast Time.

      Anyway, Happy New Year!

  8. And so the decade comes to a close in 4 minutes.

  9. https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2487554/why-star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalkers-writer-wishes-it-was-split-into-two-movies

So, get this. Even the writer of Rise of Skywalker believes that the movie should've been split into at least two parts.

This just points more towards executive meddling being at play, as usual under Disney.

I honestly would've love it if the Saga had an even ten episodes.

  10. I'm one of those weirdos who likes Return of the Jedi more than Empire Strikes Back.

I'm one of the weirdos who finds all the sequels OK, and have hardly seen or played any of the Legends material. Nor have I've seen all of Clone Wars and the other TV Shows.

  11. mvetvotw4a741.jpgWe officially have baby renders of the big mascot trinity in videogames. What a wild year this was.

Who’d have thought Crash ended up being the mutant baby out of the three.

And yet he's still better looking than Baby Coco.

  12. So Baby Sonic is cute and all, but one has to wonder....what the original Baby Sonic looked like....

  13. So, there's a lot of people speculating that those are echidna tribe folk we're seeing in the Baby Sonic trailer.

  14. Awww! He's so cute! Also, Mania music. How interesting.

      Jack at the Cinema

I hope actual game music (remixes) play in the film. I'm stating the obvious, but well, I sure hope so.

  15. (Tweet)

Oh my god. It does look like a fridge.

  16. In the theater to see Rise of Skywalker. Time to put this saga to an end.

  17. It's December...and there's a Star Wars movie abound.  You know what that means!

  18. Well, be what may, here's hoping that Rise of Skywalker can pick up the pieces that Last Jedi smashed things into.

    1. DanJ86

      DanJ86

      ….I know things...

Still, if those things are good for the narrative or bad, ultimately depend on your opinion.

  19. Speaking of court proceedings,  I've heard the good news regarding Johnny Depp.

  20. So, Smash Ultimate has not only won Japanes Game of Year awards, become the best selling fighting game of all time, and the best selling fighting game in America, but now it's also the best selling console game in Japan of the decade.

    1. Nina Cortex Jovahexeon

      Nina Cortex Jovahexeon

And that was all done in one year.

  21. Wait, you're telling me that this movie actually got Jeremy to hate Star Wars???? Something not even the shit show that was Last Jedi could do???

    1. Balding Spider

      Balding Spider

This sounds like everything I've loathed about Star Trek into Darkness, and the prequels into one film.

    2. Boomer

      Boomer

Jeremy had tons of second thoughts about TLJ and really grew to dislike it over time, which is why he stopped wearing the Cape outside of that thumbnail.

But TROS being his least favourite of all 9 is really damning. Disney have royally fucked up

  22. SO the vibes from reception of Rise of SKywalker overall I'm getting is that this new trilogy wasn't really planned out well, resulting in Episode 9 feeling more like a sequel to Episode 7 and that Last Jedi is the rotten black sheep of an egg in the entire process.

    1. Ferno

      Ferno

The same dude should've just directed all 3 tbh. He knew going in that it'd be a trilogy, like

    2. AlphaRuby

      AlphaRuby

The original trilogy was directed by 3 people and written by many others and that turned out great.

Hell, the prequels felt more planned out.

    3. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

I guess it comes down to the not be as much interaction between the people involved with the different episodes (which is fine for the Anthology, it's inexcuse for a direct follow up). Probably the biggest thing the Disney Marvel films succeeded Disney where Star Wars failed, not leaving people working on different movies in the dark.

    4. Wraith

      Wraith

every star wars trilogy feels like this

Prepare my condolences for Wraith. This is going to be interesting.

      Milo

gonna wait for more reviews / impressions, but i couldn't see jj abrams managing a tightrope walk of continuing what johnson left the series at with TLJ, and doing what he did with TFA and do a sendup to RotJ for the third sequel film. esp. given how much stuff from that movie they revealed they were bringing back.

eventually one ball they were juggling was either going to drop or not be juggled at all.

  24. @Ryannumber1Santa @Strickerx5

    There's your new Batman announcement.

      Strickerx5

Seriously though, when the hell did Telltale come back?

    2. Milo

      Milo

@Strickerx5 another company bought the ashes of the original and revived it

  25. SO, not only is Phoenix Wright in the running for Smash, but he's also working his way up a tournament.
