  1. I've been seeing some takes that the best way to get sonic unleashed to PC is by buying SEGA's unrelated sonic titles on steam. In hindsight I think that if Lost World did well on steam it would of given SEGA more of incentive to port the remaining sonic games like colors on there.

Sega hasn't really ported any Sonic game that originally came out after 2001, aside from S4E1 and SLW. I don't see them starting now.

The thing is, they know that there's a demand for Unleashed specifically. Pretty sure Aaron has gone on record multiple times that he's passed along the information to the right departments. Add in SoE's recent efforts promoting the Unleashed backwards compatibility on Xbox One and it all just feels... maddening really.

I don't think it's a fear of lack of interest because, if that was the case, games like Vanquish wouldn't have made it on there. Not to mention the sheer amount of following this push for it has gotten recently. Sega can't post any sort of PC news without getting bombarded with "Unleashed for PC" comments.

I'm pretty sure Sega just isn't that interested to go through the effort of porting a ten year old, all in all poorly received game just because of an extremely loud part of the fanbase. Either they put a lot of work into it to improve the flaws of the game to ge the interest of PC players in general or they don't and basically just stir shit or don't make anyone care besides the core part of the Sonic fanbase (which might happen anyway, even if they fix it). Either way, it just might not be worth it if they can just focus on games people liked from the get-go.

well we know for a fact that they can't do that last part so...

I don't think Sega is disinterested in Unleashed specifically. They won't even port the 'good' games like Rush or Colors to modern platforms. Basically if it's a game that came out after SA2 I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing it ever get a re-release.

But that's the weird thing. That's basically what they just did with Unleashed. Christmas Day they were tweeting out codes for it and everything. They literally had to work with Microsoft to get it backwards compatible with the One. If they were disinterested with those games (specifically Unleashed) that wouldn't have happened at all. Especially since we have reports of someone at Microsoft wanting to get the other games on there but Sega themselves saying no before (back when Generations was getting on there).

They obviously were disinterested for a while there but something has changed recently. I'm not getting my hopes up but... eh, it's hard not to want to lean in on this.

They released Sonic 4 on the backwards compatibility, like, three days before Mania got announced, and I'm pretty sure they weren't interested in doing anything with that part of the franchise or even wanted people to remember it at that point.

I think the whole backwards compatible thing might have been done to partially appease some of the big shouting after Unleashed PC by putting it on a current-gen console in some way with relatively low effort, basically a consolation price.

I might be wrong, though. If they ported it with big changes to make it a better game, I'd be all for it. I just can't really see it happening, currently.

Eh, I still don't believe Sega is as ashamed of 4 as we let on. Especially back then. Keep in mind, those games still did well both critically and financially.

Things have more than likely changed with Mania but even then, 4 still gets IOS updates which is more than most other Sega apps get. It's a small but notable thing seeing as even the original Super Monkey Ball app is busted on newer versions.

For the last few years, SoE has been having these brief moments every so often of completely turning tables on PC ports. Games that we never thought would get on the platform are appearing. Unleashed just fits that bill too well. Also, I'm not entirely sold on backward compatibility being all that easy. I think it's telling that we're still missing a large number of even popular titles from the 360.

Again, not getting my hopes up but am certainly not going to completely dismiss it at this point. I don't think it'll see any real changes beyond the massive performance buff but imo... that's all I want. I know the issues people have with the game but personally, the pros severely outweigh them and I've already learnt how to avoid most of them anyway. I, and quite a few others, just want the game.
