  1. The real issue with the Smash DLC pack 2 isn't that the characters that are chosen are bad. It's just that the characters don't really appeal to the vocal online Nintendo community.

    These guys are asking for the same handful of characters. It's ok for people to be disappointed or not interested. But I just wished that people would stop saying "waste of a character" or "Nobody asked for this".

      So, there's nothing wrong with it....

      If I had a dollar for everytime "Nobody" could easily be synonymous with "Me and the circlejerks I refuse to step out of didn't", I can afford a nice shore house and permanently escape society.

      Yeah you're right. This Japanese game should obviously cater to me, some random American guy in the middle of nowhere!

      They should have Silent Hill's Pyramid Head as a fighter character because a representation of a protagonist's sexual repression is the best and most fitting choice of character for Smash Bros.

      The majority of the characters have been uncalled-for and surprising on purpose. And I like that. I don't want to beg for Waluigi and Geno and just... get them. You know? I'd rather be surprised. Not that I even care much for Smash though lmao.

      It's baffling that people are still "predicting" that their favorite character will get in. They're really just wishing; because it won't happen.

      I watched a video talking about the issue of the DLC and it just basically came off as "I want my overly cartoony characters that I like seeing from Nintendo". Then he made a list of characters he wanted to see in a potential fighters pass 3

      Aaaaaand yeah......it speaks for itself

      I mean, he threw in a token semirealistic gunman.

      On a purely personal level I'm just sick of the "ultra traditional" fighter archetype that Kazuya occupies. It was cute when Ryu originally came out and carried over his natural command inputs, but if you include Ken there's now four of the fuckers and the gimmick's already lost all appeal it ever had to me - which honestly wasn't much to begin with, because I played Smash to get AWAY from fighting games that unashamedly used cheat codes as standard move inputs.

      I'm not saying this to shit on the character pick or anything - Smash is very much a celebration of gaming history, and it would be asinine to suggest Tekken didn't have a presence on that stage. It just isn't for me. That much is to be totally expected in some capacity when you're gunning for a roster as diverse as Ultimate's.

      Cheat codes?

      Opening a menu to do combos sounds tedious..

      I'm glad that every time one of these idiots goes on about what would truly be iconic or exciting, they throw in waluigi and I can safely disregard them as not know what the fuck they're talking about.

      It is pretty wild how much focus we've got for traditional fighting game characters this pack.

      @Wraith

      I'd genuinely like to see Waluigi and think he'd be a good representative of the "Mario spinoff" titles by using various sports/party/kart-themed abilities.

      and that is completely fine. i just think it's bizarre when people turn it into some weird meritocracy where scrimbo the bimbo deserved it over whoever actually got on.

      doubly so when they start pulling reasons out their ass

      Yea, that's kind of what I've noticed too; people are less interested in what would actually make for an interesting game, and more just going off a checklist of things they want.

      Its not that characters like Ryu, Kazuya, or Terry are bad mechanically, but rather they don't fit into the idea of what most Smash/Nintendo fans want Smash Bros. to be.

      And they justify themselves with some reasoning they pulled out of t heir ass rather than anything concrete.

      It’s more annoying when people complain about lack of variety in Smash Bros mainly due to there having JRPG characters so their solution is “more mascot platformer characters” which comes of as hilariously hypocritical

      @Dejimon11

      I can see the rationale that maybe there's more visual variety in these characters, perhaps.

      Smash's JRPG characters are (with a couple of exceptions like its reps from the Mother series) mostly realistically-proportioned anime humans. Its platformer characters range from all kinds of different shapes, sizes, species, etc.

      I'm not against JPRG characters or FPS characters or even traditional fighter characters, mind you. I'm just saying I get the argument that platformers have "more variety" on some level.

      I mean even then, the proportion of "realistic" characters to the more surreal is still skewered more towards the latter than the former.
