  1. The Pokemon anime VAs pronounce Dewpider as “Dew-pidder”.

    ...are you...how can you...WHAT

      ...
Dew as in water. pider as in spider. Only the S missing with them together. Thing looks like a spider anyway.

HOW DO YOU MAKE THAT MISTAKE?

To be fair, there isn't really a way to make it sound good. Although I suppose in America, it will sound sillier - like "Doopidder" -  than the way we would pronounce it ("Joopidder").

@DarkRula  I don't think that's beyond them. It's just more uncomfortable to say.

I guess whatever makes things easier to say. There's also some who would call a spider a spidder, so it still works.

      ...Wait, it's not Dew-pidder?

Dew-pider (as in spider) sounds too dumb and unnatural to me. Like, I understand that "-pider" comes from the word "spider", but it's much easier to pronounce it as "dew-pidder". That's almost like saying Jupiter as "Ju-pider"

@DarkRula that there are actually people who say “spidder”?

I’ve been internally saying “Dew-pider” ever since I saw it, it sounds perfectly normal/logical to me

Not exactly sure where it comes from, but it certainly seems a popular form of slang if Twitter is anything to go by. https://twitter.com/hashtag/spidder

Dewpider is a dumb name and there's no way to pronounce it naturally. "Dew-pidder" is just the best way to do it.

considering i only recently realized that the -tula in zelda's skulltulas comes from tarantula but there's no way in hell i will ever be able to pronounce it like that i'll give pokemon a pass on this

      @Diogenes “Skull-chew-la”?

Oh. The other way doesn’t sound unnatural to me though

Skulltula's a pretty awful name no matter how it's pronounced

to clarify, i've always pronounced the "tul" to rhyme with "skull"; skull-tull-ah

but in tarantula it's more of a "tyu-la" and i just cannot get that to sound right in skulltula

Never had a problem with Skulltula. It's like mulch or gulch.
