  1. I really do resent how hellbent Sega are on burying every past iteration of Sonic.

What the hell would be so bad about ever using characters and concepts from SatAM, Sonic X, or Sonic Boom again?

Gotta throw everything out with the kitchen sink don'tcha know

Sega's troubleshooting is surface level at best. People don't like the horribly coded amigo sections of 06? Just don't use those characters at all again. People don't like RoL? Purge the entire thing. Even the show and characters that were good like Sticks.

The only instance of them actually moving forward somewhat correctly was with Colors from Unleashed and even then, to say they still took wider swings then they should've would be a huge understatement.

this series is confused enough about its identity as it is. it doesn't need to draw in elements from every other wildly divergent continuity into one big slurry.

Sega is shortsighted and kinda dumb. What else is new?

    4. Strickerx5

They also don’t need to reset the board every time either. That’s part of the reason why they’ve never been able to gain a solid footing.

@Diogenes if other franchises can keep track of different canons and iterations without any problem (Marvel and DC say hi), why the hell can’t Sonic?

If it doesn't make sense for the concept theyre interested in now, why bring stuff back?

Bringing back every character and concept would be pointless lipservice at beat and lead to confused, bloated products at worst.

I know it’s not impossible because I’ve seen other franchises do it just fine.

No where am I saying that each and every character needs to be in each and every game. Just that this constant shifting from Sega in acting like certain characters have been discontinued or some shit I could do without.

If gd Cosmo fits a game, bring her in. If Amy doesn't need to be in a game, leave her out. This is common shit for most other series.

Getting rid of everything is just as bad because you lead to a bland and stale state where there's nothing of interest to keep anyone's attention, which I feel describes Modern after Unleashed and Colors perfectly.

It's not even unusual for franchises (including ones that I'm into so I guess I'm used to this kind of thing), but it definitely sucks that stuff like the comics and Boom aren't allowed to use chars they want to nowadays. There's nothing wrong with the games not being interested in using say, the (not-so-)scrapped classic era characters, but I don't think adaptations should be obligated to follow suit.

It’s not so much bringing in concepts from older canons into the newer stuff, it’s the fact that they outright refuse to revisit said canons, even if it’s through reissues of older material.

I mean, we can’t even have reprints of the Sonic X comics for this very reason. I mean, rereleasing the show in DVD boxsets are fine, but forbid they rerelease the comic too.

@Forgetful Panda wish i knew what all is fucked up about sonic team that makes them continually shit up the series but it is a mystery for the ages. but maybe focusing on the things that are most important and most necessary would help keep things on track compared to trying to be everything this mixed up series has ever been.

    13. Strickerx5

@DiogenesThey've been trying to do that for the last decade but with little to no success. Personally, I'm tired of acting like cutting things out, to the point of starting things from square one, is going to be the answer. I'd rather focus on using what they have instead of trying to figure out what they simply can't do.

Haven't been able to get invested into anything from this series for a decade now.

    14. Diogenes

yes, they should focus on using what they have. instead of trying to have everything, and inevitably failing.

    15. Strickerx5

I'm fine with holding off on new characters for a bit (because lord knows Sega will do that and we won't see anyone new for the next decade on top of that not fixing anything) but hell, if they have a good idea for Big (doesn't have to be gameplay specific I'll add), put him in.

It isn't Sega to blame but rather the people who handle the entire Sonic department. Whoever is in charge of that wants a very narrow view, it's been mismanaged for years perhaps decades. Not just Sonic but Atlus seems to also have problems regarding the first two Persona games to the point that it has become a meme.

Taking another Sega owned but part of a different department (TMS) example regarding Lupin, a very positive example:

Green jacket? Part 1 has been made available on more places including Amazon. It might have even got and would have got an English dub except sound materials either don't exist anymore or in poor quality. Castle of Cagliostro got a 4K release and a 4D experience, wouldn't be surprised next year Discotek releases it in the US in 4K.

Red jacket? It got a TV special this year with another rumored on the way. The TV specials were axed a few years back but TMS brought them back. One of the more recent TV Specials was dubbed into English and got a good reception. In the US, all of Part 2 has been released on DVD with the final volume on the way. Also in the US, TMS has been uploading a couple of episodes of Part 2 officially on Youtube.

Pink jacket? Got an episode in Part 5 that is a surprise since it hasn't been referenced since Green vs Red (and before that, its original airdate if it got aired...), got a dub of the Legend of the Gold of Babylon a movie that is known to have a mixed reception and the fanbase for Part 3 that was very low increased over the years to the praise that it never got back in 1984/85. It went from something that TMS shoved aside ala Sonic 06 to even been referenced on official channels. Not a LOL JOKE either but empathising the positives inside. There might even be a possibility of an English dub of Part 3 in the future. Had it been from Sonic Team, then the Pink Jacket would have never been seen again.

Blue jacket? The English dub for Part 5 is still airing and that will have a Blu-ray release when its done for both the US and the UK (if Anime Ltd actually do it). Speaking of which, Part 5 referenced the other three jackets and even the manga. It had characters from Parts 1, 2, 3 4 and the TV Specials all pop up in the last few episodes.

Fujiko Mine universe? Got a new movie this year and it was simudubbed with Japan, not even Italy got the latest movie and they get nearly everything Lupin. Even the 3D movie is confirmed to have an Italian dub but not Fujiko Mine's Lie.

The new movie looks like it will add another subsection but all sections (green, red, pink, blue jacket, Fujiko Mine) all co-exist just fine. The only thing that is off limits is a re-release of The Fuma Conspiracy but apart from that, nearly everything is up for grabs. Now the issue of places outside of Japan, US and Italy getting things is a completely different matter...

Had this been Sonic Team (or whoever runs the Sonic series now), we would have stuck with Blue Jacket only. Maybe "classic red" popping up now and again.
