  1. Only the Archie Sonic multiverse was walled off. Every other reality in the omniverse was not.
  2. My main memory of TSSZ and its overall community was seeing the article about Penders revealing he wanted to make Rotor gay, and the comments section was basically wall-to-wall repugnant homophobia.

Mine was years ago when TSS did Sonic Relief, TSSZ posted the results of the competition. The comments were very cruel about the winner's work. That person was me. So yeah, never been fond of them since.

Good ol' unmoderated comment sections. What would we do without your sickening hot takes.

I just remember Tristan picking fights with Tyson Hesse and Ian Flynn last year over literally nothing.

In the latter's case, for those who don't know about what happened: (spoiler'd for length)

First of all it was TSSZ's mistake in the first place, reposting an out of context quote from years ago about how the FF were outdated...except Ian said it in the context explaining why they were updated for the reboot. This was, of course, left out of the tweet.

So Ian (understandably) felt the need clarify his actual stance on those characters, and he didn't even reply to or call attention to TSSZ over it. It's worth noting there already was a group of people who seem to legitimately believe Ian hates the FF and secretly wanted them gone. So all in all it made sense for Ian to say something, considering how people online can be.

Tristan took Ian's statement as an insult somehow(???), going by his response where he said "Ian, I have no idea why you have such disdain for me and for our organization--it feels personal--but I will listen and try to come to terms with you on it, however you'd like." (For the record it seems there was more to that tweet at the end but the discord embed I'm relying on cuts off there, and I think the tweet was deleted even before the total cleanse of the TSSZ account today?)

So Tristan thought he was worth more than he actually was, is what I'm getting here.

  3. In response to @Dr. Detective Mike in the Archie thread, here’s a headcanon about how the Archie Sonic multiverse works: Every Sonic continuity, and alternate realities relating to said continuities, all exist in one giant omniverse. The game reality is the Prime zone. From it spawned countless chains of other alternate realities. Some realities gain enough traction for a sub-multiverse to be built around it. The original version of the Archie Sonic multiverse was the most famous example of this phenomenon, spawning practically infinite realities, with a big cosmic barrier forming around all of it, effectively closing it off from the outside omniverse, resulting in a secluded multiverse in which Archie’s Mobius Prime was considered the one true zone of it all. Travel outside of the multiverse happened on incredibly rare occassions, such as when Eggman made contact with Mega Man’s world. The Super Genesis Wave not only obliterated all of these alternate zones, leaving the Archie Sonic multiverse a shadow of its former immenseness, but also destroyed the cosmic wall, allowing access to the outer omniverse, made evident by the travel to the different Sega and Capcom worlds in Worlds Unite.
  4. Apparently the Pokemon anime dub has now started editing out the “To be continued” sign at the end of the episodes.

  5. Listen to the clams gurgle in the bucket, Plank.

  6. Wait what? I thought the Bad Guys miniseries was coming out around the same time as issue 33, but it’s actually not coming until 2021?

  7. This is another thing I’ve always wanted to bring up: what does that mean for all the alternate future timelines that are out there? Light Mobius and Dark Mobius, for example, are both possible/alternate future timelines that diverged from Mobius Prime’s own timeline. Since the Sonics in these two futures have the same memories as the “present day” Prime Sonic (up to a certain point), they would theoretically also remember being informed of their status as the “Prime” Sonic. Except, then...the very fact they are alternate timeline versions, by definition, would mean they are NOT the Prime versions. So, like, did these alternate future Sonic’s go around believing they were still the Prime versions? Or does Zonic have to pop into every diverging future timeline once they are created to inform their Sonic that “hey, so, remember that time I told you you were the one true Sonic? Well...”
  8. I never noticed before that Antoine doesn’t appear in the prototype SatAM intro.

Was he not originally in the show?

    1. VisionaryofSUPER

My guess is that he was an executive decision. It was pretty standard in the 80s and 90s to have complainer characters for the audience to make fun of.

    2. Big Panda

      Big Panda

Makes me wonder why, if early Archie Sonic was based on proto-SatAM, why Antoine was already there, but Bunnie had to be introduced later.

    3. Chili Dawg

      Chili Dawg

would have been a much better show then, most likely

    4. Plumbers_Helper

Antoine was absent from the original intro, but he was in the pilot made for the original intro "Heads or Tails."

The oddness of early Archie was mostly form miscommunication, it's why Sally was pink despite only having that appearance for the pilot and why Rotor was called "Boomer". In one of the early drafts for the series bible they originally had Antoine British instead of French among many other changes. SatAM was originally going to be goofy like Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog - in fact SatAM was originally going to take place in the same universe as AOSTH. AOSTH would've taken place before Robotnik took over Robotropolis and SatAM would've happened afterwards.

I remember hearing about human Sally before.

I wonder when did that old prototype that we saw concept art for in early StC issues (where Sally was a yellow cat of some kind) come into it.

Also, coincidentally (or maybe not), the UK broadcasts basically acted as if they were in the same continuity (both shows were initially bundled together as “Sonic the Hegdehog season 1 and season 2”)

i do recall seeing human sally before, but man that page is a treasure trove, thanks!

    9. Plumbers_Helper

      @Big Panda

It was one of the earliest promotional materials released, it was even shown at Disneyland at one point. SatAM went through so many changes during it's production it's honestly amazing the show came out as good as it did.

  9. @Dr. Detective Mike my bad. Those two things run really close together in my head.
  10. Back in the day, Cartoon Network UK actually weren’t afraid to broadcast programming that was aimed at older audiences.

Before I started getting the channel in my home, there was the AKA Cartoon Network evening block that broadcast old Hanna Barbera shows, including more syphisticated stuff like Space Ghost, and an original show called Cult Toons, which was basically an ancestor to the Youtube Poops of today.

Then there was the Toonami block, which not only broadcast DBZ, but more obscure, maturer anime shows like Tenchi Muyo and Gundam Wing, which were aired as early as 5pm.

Then there was stuff like ToonHeads, Home Movies, and that shortlived Baby Blues show.

God damn, back then, CN UK actually had an element of sophistication to it, the kind which is just completely non-existant on the channel today, with its same limited variety of shows, boring “just cycle through the same few shows over and over” schedules, lack of dedicated blocks, and its unwillingness to show anything that goes just that little bit beyond the child friendly scope.

    1. Lord-Dreamerz

It wasn't perfect... but I do really miss the 90s & early 2000s CN. They had so much variety back then! It felt closer to their name "cartoon NETWORK!" a real hub to go to where you could just zoneout watching cartoons for ages. I agree there was more series on CN where both adults & kids could enjoy it without it feeling insulting to watch for either age group. They had so many old cartoon series too which was great! Nowadays I don't even watch TV hardly ever because most channels just endlessly repeat the same small handful of junk. I simply download shows & watch what i want online now... I do sometimes miss having a GOOD TV channel to watch however.

  11. I’m not 100% on my Sailor Moon lore, but aren’t Sally Moon, Tuxedo Knux, and Chibi Rose’s official counterparts supposed to be mother, father and daughter?
  12. ...are you sure about that? Because, being honest, nothing in this issue sticks out to me as being copies of shots I’ve seen before. And this is coming from somebody who instantly noticed the blatant tracing that issues 15 and 16 had (literally nothing in those issues were drawn freehand), and also tends to notice all those occasions when Lamar Wells does it in later issues. I usually have an eye for these sorts of things, and I’m just not seeing it here.
  13. Do the Team Sonic Racing shorts fit into game continuity?

  14. There’s a thread I want to post at some point that involves multiple spoiler tags. The only reason I’m holding off is because of what will inevitably happen.

  15. The Archie version of Tekno the Canary is a disk jockey.
  16. GUN as an overall unit just failed epically in SA2.

They should have been fully aware that Rouge was infiltrating Eggman’s inner circle, and yet they still treated her as if she was a genuine threat (sending Flying Dog after her, leaving her locked in the vault, etc...)

One could argue that they were doing it to keep up appearances, so that Eggman didn’t get suspicious, but that nuance completely flew out the window when they basically left her to die.

    1. Diogenes

isn't it implied she's working for the president, not gun?

    2. Wraith

Diogenes is correct, and even if she was working for GUN I feel like that her double agent status wouldn't be known to lower ranking soldiers anyway.

    3. JosepHenry

I always saw Rouge in SA2 as working JUST for the president, not for GUN. Makes more sense even.

    4. Plumbers_Helper

Yeah, her working for GUN wasn't a thing until Sonic 06, in Sonic Heroes she wonders how the President is doing and is seen again working only for the President in Sonic Battle. The President did order her to work with GUN in Sonic X, where it's elaborated that there was a hidden corrupt section of GUN trying to keep their involvement with Project Shadow a secret. Normally I wouldn't include information from what is clearly a different continuity, but in this case I think it's worth mentioning because Sonic X did include several cut scenes and dialogue originally meant for both Adventure games.

I just mentioned this in a previous status update oddly enough.

    5. E-122-Psi

Even if she was, it's kind of easy to handwave anything about GUN since they were clearly working in full blown self preservation mode the whole time, regardless of the possibilities of those around them. They were willing to throw SONIC literally under the bus just to keep Project Shadow from getting out and had previously committed mass genocide, so doing the same to one of their own agents would be child's play for them.

  17. I love Genesis, if only for the nostalgic memories it brings up. And I’m not talking about “classic Sonic game” memories. That general period in the fandom was absolutely nuts, with whether or not Sally had indeed died at the end of 225 being a hot topic for a solid four months, with responses from both sides being pure gold; I recall how on Bumbleking there was a thread opened up that was dedicated exclusively to making fun of it all. As for the story itself; I still liked it. The way it played on my suspense was pretty well done imo. There was a hint of tension that came from seeing Sonic and co initially going about their new life remaining completely unaware that something big was happening right under their noses, with those tensions ramping up when the old memories started to leak through. I remember getting proper chills when this panel suddenly popped up in part 3.
  18. Are signatures still a thing here?

      Indeed they are.

I turned them off like a decade ago

    3. Monkey Destruction Switch

      Monkey Destruction Switch

Yeah. But I turned them off pretty recently and can't say I've missed them. Personally I think this forum's signature requirements are too lax and can easily lead to massively tall signatures. I want to focus on the actual discussion going on, not on people's huge sigs. Which is too bad because I think they're a fun feature in general.

    4. Polkadi~☆

I've cut down on my signature more and more over time. We don't need big signatures, and I certainly don't need to put everything I like in there.

    5. Big Panda

I wondered because I can’t see any signatures anywhere, but the “Avatar and Signature” topic is still a thing.

Michael Gallaghar wrote this story. Does that make it canon?

    1. SBR2

      I say yes.

  20. Whenever I see people talk about their ideal multi-canon Sonic crossover, it usually consists of all of the different Sonic’s meeting up.

I personally disagree. No, with a crossover like that, I’d much rather it be about one single Sonic teaming up with multiple heroes that appear exclusively in outside continuities.

Let’s say, for example, IDW did a “Sonic comic crossover event” where the three major Sonic comic canons (IDW, Archie, and Fleetway) crossed over. I personally wouldn’t want it to be a big clusterfuck of three different Sonics and alternate versions of a bunch of other characters.

Instead, I’d have the IDW versions of Sonic and co merely teaming up with characters who appear exclusively in Archie and StC (who come in from their respective universes), with IDW exclusive characters like Tangle and Whisper being on Sonic’s side for the sake of having a pure IDW rep.

    1. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

I figured most people's ideal multi-canon "crossover" is the one where most everyone lives in one canon and there's just one version of every main character, taking practicality out of the equation of course.

    2. Plumbers_Helper

That does sound cool, but if the IDW writers had permission to use characters from other Sonic media , I'd rather see them adapted into the IDW series proper, rather then in a one time only cross over event.

It's a really arbitrary and strange thing to choose between... but fine, whatever. In terms of the "big" games, 25th for Mania is obviously the best and 15th for '06 is obviously the worst. I'd put SA2 above Generations, but the two can go either way.

As for the celebration, I wasn't even ten years old when Sonic celebrated his 10th birthday, didn't have any platform newer than a Mega Drive and wasn't active in any online communities. Can't really rate it as I wasn't involved. 15th Anniversary was basically just another year for Sonic, but the 15th Anniversary logo was slapped on everything and the best game to come out with that branding was Riders, followed by Rivals. Not the best showing all in all, even if I do really like Riders. The 25th Anniversary had a really cool party with a the most incredible music, but it felt so arbitrary when there were no games released around the anniversary and everything just came so much later. Boom Fire & Ice was the only game that calendar year. The best is obviously the 20th Anniversary. A great year for celebrations. Generations, Classic Sonic and the positive buzz were good enough all on their own, but a special mention goes out to the Generations demo that was launched on Sonic's actual birthday. Good move, SEGA (even if the inevitable data mine screwed over marketing plans). 2011 was a good time to be a Sonic fan.

And logos... I really don't have an opinion. They're all fine, I guess?

  23. Only problem is they’re unable to ship to certain locations.
  24. The graphic novels have some pretty explicit references too. There are a number of references throughout The Simpsons. The first and most famous being from the season 7 episode “Marge Be Not Proud” It even got referenced in LEGO Dimensions (42 seconds in) Sonic even has a page on the Simpsons Wiki, with all of his cameos listed.
